Flash CS 6 - PNG downscaling issue

Hi all,
This is my first post here so apologies in case I don't get all the required information into the post right away.
I'm working with Adobe Flash Professional CS6 and aim to export an animation into a different tool. In order to do that I require the animation to be a sequence of .png files rather than any other format. So far so good, however, the individual files are to have a a rather small size (110x115 pixel).
Before working out the details in Flash, I had run a quick test in Photoshop with a few keyframes. The result was very good considering the low resolution.
The problem I encounter in Flash now is that the quality of the final .png files seems to be considerably lower than the results I was able to achieve in PS. It seems to me that the downscaling (I work on a 1100x1150 pixel file and downscale when exporting) causes a considerable loss of quality within Flash when it doesn't do the same in PS at all. Due to the limitations of tweening in PS I would prefer to use Flash instead, but the results stop me from doing that so far.
Here's what I've done so far - Attempt 1:
Import all my psd layers as flattened bitmaps
add the animations
export as png sequence while downscaling from 1100x1150 pixel to 110x115
I have attempted this with 'smoothing' on and off
Attempt 2:
Redraw the whole image in vectors in Flash (rather than importing bitmaps from PS)
add the animations
export as png sequence while downscaling from 1100x1150 pixel to 110x115
I have attempted this with 'smoothing' on and off
Both attempts resulted in a considerably lower .png quality than downscaling and exporting the frames in PS directly.
I hope this makes sense and would really appreciate any help you can offer.

Yes, Flash's scaling on export lacks the finesse of Photoshop. To get the best of both, use both. Use method 2, but don't scale the output. Export the pngs at full size. Then open them in Photoshop and perform the re-scaling. I would do this scaling in steps. I don't like to reduce the size of any image more than 50% at any step. Depending on the content of these images, you might want to also add a sharpening step or two in the re-scaling process.

  • Successfully using a Native Extension with Flash CS5.5 Pro, having issues

    Hey all,
I'm trying to use a native extension due to an app rejection about the new storage guidelines. I'm hoping someone can help me figure out how to use a native extension from Flash CS5.5 and the adt command line utility (I've never used before).
Apples storage guidelines in 5.0.1 require files saved to Documents (and other places) to be marked with the icloud "do not back up" bit. I'm trying to use Adobe's IOS 5.0.1 data storage native extension to do that as I have file sharing enabled and my app downloads files I want the user to be able to copy to their desktop.
From the bits and fragments I'm reading all over, getting it to compile means using the command line adt tool (I've never used it before) because Flash Pro CS5.5 doesn't support native extensions. Also, this native extension requires a v14 SWF published (11.1) and CS5.5 only goes up to 10.2 (or higher if you install the players).
I edited the AiriPhone.xml file and pointed it to an AIR 3.1 airglobal.swc and I have AIR 3.1 overlayed in flash. I can't test AIR for iOS anymore after that change but I can get it to compile a SWF. The adt command line adt utility stopped complaining that my SWF version was 13 when it needed 14, so I assume this worked?
I am trying to compile a debug version so I can see trace statements to see if the native extension reports success on changing the bit. Here is my command line cobbled together from scraps of info on adobe.com and the -help data:
    adt -package -target ipa-debug -connect 192.168.1.80 -provisioning-profile myApp.mobileprovision -storetype pkcs12 -keystore myApp.p12 myApp.ipa myApp-app.xml myApp.swf dat AppIconsForPublish Default-Landscape.png Default-LandscapeRight.png -extdir extensionDir
Before this iCloud change this app published directly from Flash Pro CS5.5 without any issues. I am only running into issues getting this app to work with this native extension and/or published correctly.
I am including the folders "dat" and "AppIconsForPublish" as well as splash screens (this app is landscape-only) as well as that extension in the folder extensionDir.
After putting in my password my app compiles into an IPA which I can drop into iTunes. It has the same general size as the IPA generated from Flash Pro. The icon is correct, etc.
When I sync this file, the progress bar goes across, I see it loading on my iPad and then once it goes to install I get a popup saying "iTunes Sync: 'myApp' failed to install."
Is there anything obvious wrong with my adt line? Has anyone else used this native extension? Ideas on what I can do to fix this?
No, unfortunately I did not build this with Flash Builder. I am an avid user of it now and this would be a moot point as it uses ANEs and changes SWF versions trivially. I have to get this to compile using Flash Pro CS5.5 though.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    edit:
Just FWIW, after I updated the .xml to use the latest AIR and such (so the version is 14) I removed the extension, exported purely from Flash Pro CS5.5 and the app works fine. As soon as I enable the <extension> in the XML I can no longer install the app. This just appears to be a noob adt publish issue.

My app downloads PDFs, movies and other information-esque files and saves them to the apps Documents folder so they can be retrieved via file sharing. These files not being in something purgable like /Library/Caches and not having the "do not back up" bit is why I was rejected.
update: It's definitely my command line building.. I took out the native extension completely and published from flash to an IPA and it works. I then run adt on the same SWF that just worked and it fails to install. So the install failing is my command line. I see this article and my command line is very similar. I'm really uncertain why it's failing.

  • Design in flash or import png files

    Hi,
I'm having someone help with the design of my site.
He wants to give me png files for the graphics.
Won't that increase the file size?
Would it be better if he designed the graphics in flash
    instead of importing png files?
Just wondering which way is recommended.
    Thanks.

depends on the design, the images, style, file size concerns
    - yes you are right, file size will
usually increase with imported bitmaps - and if they contain
    alpha, then processor/performance
    issues may arise.
Also consider that flash does not handle bitmaps very well
unless they yare at 100% with no rotation
    - so hopefully you won't need to scale or rotate them.
If the graphics can be made with vectors, then i recommend
    it.

  • Flash in DW CS3 template issues

I have created a template which contains a Flash header at
the top. After creating new pages using the template, some of the
pages are not loading the Flash movie for some reason. The index
page does, but none of the others. The Flash does not reside in an
editable region, so why would it not load in any of the pages. Here
    is the project in question:
    http://uniquecreationsdesign.com/spiritlife/
I have just started creating the pages from the template and
linking them up. As it is right now there are only the first two
links, but already having the issue and I don't want to continue
until I can get this issue sorted out. The strange thing about this
problem is that from DW, if I view the pages in question locally
there is nothing at the top, no Flash at all. Once uploaded to the
server and viewed remotely I see the Flash container but no movie
    loads.
Any help here? I greatly appreciate in advance and light you

Make the link to the Flash file a ROOT relative link in the

  • Flash Player 10.3 content issues

I'm having issues with flash videos and content being positioned in the upper left corner of the screen. And then the content flickers when you move the mouse. I've noticed there are some web sites with flash video where there is no problem, but on a lot of sites I use, I encounter this problem. I have an HP laptop with Windows 7 Service Pack 1 64 bit, and Internet Explorer 9. I did not have any problems until I downloaded and installed flash player 10.3. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times to no avail. It's obvious from my observation that this a problem with the program and Adobe needs to fix it ASAP.

    Hi. I have same problem.
This problem occured on following platform.
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Edition Japanese Service Pack 1
    Ineternet Explorer 9 x86
    Flash Player 10,3,181,14
On Flash Player 10.2.159.1 and below, this problem doesn't occur.

  • Adobe Flash Player and trackpad scrolling issue?

I downloaded Flash Player to my mbp yesterday so I could watch some YouTube vids but after the d/l and install my trackpad scrolling became slightly jittery and skipped every so often. It does it on anyhing that is internet related only (safari, app store, itunes store etc.) It got annoying so I uninstalled Flash Player and no more skipping. Does anyone know a fix to the scroll skipping when Flash Player is installed? Maybe a setting that can be changed in flash system prefs? I would like to have it installed but if it is going to continue to make my scrolling skip then I guess I'll have to try to live with the skipping or just flat out live without flash on my mbp. I downloaded it directly from www.adobe.com and it was the latest version. I'm running ML on a mid 2012. Also could be an issue with ML being so new that adobe hasn't caught up yet?

I have similar problems.  It does seem to correlate to Flash running in Safari.  Works fine with Google Chrome but Chrome isn't as fast on OSX.

  • Specific Flash Player 10 Backward Compatibility Issue

There's an issue with backward compatibility on Flash Player
10 that is breaking a lot of Flash content that was created with a
tool that I develop and sell. It is to do with the way
    globalToLocal and localToGlobal handles NaN.
I've reported it on the bugbase at
    https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-964
There are more details here -
    http://www.questionwriterblog.com/archives/2008/11/scrollbar_causing_content_to_disappear. html
The impact of the bug can be seen here.
    http://www.questionwriter.com/samples/fp10problem/v1perceptions.swf
It is a serious enough backward compatibility issue, and
doubtless affects other content too. I'm hoping for the outcome
that the functionality will be restored in future player releases -
but right now, can someone give me confirmation it is on the Flash
    Player team radar?

  • Very new to using flash in websites: browser display issue

I am very new to flash ads and we are on a new platform after a website redesign.  I'm having trouble with flash display settings I'm guessing since the ad displays fine in IE, but not fine in Firefox and Chrome.  Images to follow (for the curious it is a YWCA ad):
Here you see overlap on the current version of Firefox.
This ad has wings! Current version of Chrome.
This is IE. What? IE is right and the other browsers aren't? What gives!?
Additional details:  The position is a plugin position for Wordpress.  The ad is being placed via Ad-minister with the following code:
    <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0">

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

test with the html published by flash.  if no problems, the issue is the embedding code.

  • Black flashing every 10 min Handshake issues

I have had FiOS less than a week. I used to have cable. The picture is much better the internet seems faster, the other stuff looks cool. HOWEVER I have handshake issues and no one knows what I am talking about. Cable was much better when it comes to customer service and I may change back just for that. I get 2 flashes every 10 min or so. I know what it is I'm looking for a fix. I have a Pioneer AV A Sony TV and this Verizon box. I read that a HDMI switch from the AV to the TV may fix it. The poster said he does not know why it worked but it did. The Tec at Pioneer said it was the signal from the box was week and a booster would do it.
    Has anyone found a fix?

    DEPOLLACK wrote:
What is SD? I will try it. thanks
    SD stands for standard definition.
HDMI is the best picture quality. Component cables to me are sub par.
The others are correct when saying an HDMI cable should go directly to the tv if you can do it. Handshake issues arent that rare though. Some people with certain brand tv's have more issues then others with a different brand.
I know before fios updated to 1.9 there were many, many hand shake issues. That to me said it was a software issue that they seemed to have fixed.
I would still try changing the settings for SD to off like I said, but would defiently put the hdmi directly to the tv.
Run the hdmi to the tv and run the coax or optical sound cable to the surround sound receiver.

  • PNG File issue

    Hi,
I have a PNG with transparency (clients logo), only one layer, all is fine in Photoshop.
When I attach/insert into AutoCAD software it shows an unknown image/layer behind the logo. Please note that I do not have an issue with the transparency being 'whited' out.
I have the following response from CAD software support but it does not address the actual problem (the unknown image/layer)..
I think the issue is related to the fact that the logo contains "alpha channel" (also referred to as transparency) information. The segments around the logo that show in the white and grey checker are the parts that Photoshop considers to be "inivisble" and will treat them this way in loaded the logo on top of another image inside Photoshop. To the best of my knowledge, Autocad does not understand alpha channel information and will show these parts as solid white. They will obscure any object that is beneath the in the draw-order.
Any advise or direction in removing the unknown image/layer (trees) is much appreciated.
And please don't tell me to source a new image file.
    Thanks, Jay.

Whoever prepared that png image kept the "hidden" information that is normally not seen because of the transparency hiding it from the viewer's eyes, which includes part of a photo.
Autocad does not seem to support transparency/alpha channels in png images, and displays ALL the pixel information, including the hidden pixels, and, as a result, that photo and other pixel junk is shown.
Unfortunately, Photoshop does not automatically remove that pixel junk (at least, not in my CS6 version) whether saved for web or through the save as function if you wish to retain transparency. (Which is the reason why that pixel junk was retained in the first place.) So you will have to remove it manually. In your case it is easy: you do not wish transparency, merely a white background so it displays correctly in AutoCAD.
    1) open the image.
    2) File->Save For Web.
    3) Select PNG-24, and turn off transparency. Set the Matte to white.
    4) Save.
Done. You removed the transparency, and replaced it with white. Import in AutoCAD.

  • Flash CS5.5 Auto Save Issues

Alright, I've been having this annoying issue with flash. Flash auto saves my project every 10 minutes, but, I would rather have flash save every thirty minutes. This can be very aggravating, because, when every I return to use flash It is saving. When I am in a rhythm working on a project flash interrupts me to autosave.
Autosave is great in that It has saved me having to redo work, but, I would rather choose to save when I am ready.
I tried to change the auto-recovery setting to a different amount of time. FlashPreferences>General>Auto-Recovery
This does not work. Flash will continue to save every 10 min.
Any thoughts or solutions would be appreciated.

  • Flash CS6 exported mov color issue

Hi, I'm using Flash CS6 in mac, I realized that when I export the animation to mov (tested different codec), the color will be lighter, please see the bellowing screenshot.
Does anyone have the same issue? how to solve it?
    Thanks a lot!
    PY

I've got around this issue, by exporting from Ai to SWF. Its a shame the Import Ai to Flash Library seems to be doing this to quite a few of my vector illustrations. where only 1 or 2 curves are being lost when it comes to export but work fine within the Flash workspace.

  • Importing Flash Vectors to Illustrator.  Issues with Missing Lines.  Please Advise.

So I have done many hours of animation in flash over the years.  And what I am trying to do is import some of the characters I have created in Flash into Illustrator and convert them to PSD.  This is for a print project that I am working on.  The reason I want to get the images to photoshop is so I can add some effects and coloring techniques I simply can not do in Illustator or Flash.
Here is the method I am using.
    1) Select the vector image in Flash and Export Selection to Adobe FXG.
    2) Open FXG in Illustartor
    3) Export to PSD
    4) Open in Photoshop and Color.
The problem I am having is the line art that was drawn with the pencil tool in Flash simply vanishes when imported to Illustartor.  Also a lot of the line art that was draw with the pencil tool is gradient filled or the image I am trying to export may have multiple color Pencil Lines.  So  just trying to outline the images in AI does not provide the look or effect I want.
Does anyone have a solution to this, or have any tips for me.
    Thanks.

FXG is a bust. Never worked right in the first place. The rest would require much more specific details like a sample file perhaps, screenshots, how the characters are animated and whatnot. FL and AI simply use completely different vector engines, so there may be all sorts of issues at play here.
