Flash Debugger issue

Hi,
I'm trying to use the Flash debugger but when I put breakpoints in nothing happens except I see the swf.  I can't run through the code or see any variables?!
I'm coding in AS3 and I'm using CS4 professional on Windows XP professional platform.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I've installed flash again but the debug still doesn't work still.
I've managed to debugged my FLA on a colleagues machine without any problems so I know it's not the flash files!
Anybody got any ideas what I can try next?

  • FLASH Builder 4.5 Debugger Issues

    Hey,
Recently the projects I've been working on have had additional compiler arguments added to it:
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=compilers_21.html
    (e.g. -define+=myval,true -define+=myvalx,false)
This works ok for the compiler but I'm noticing now sometimes my FLASH Builder will now trigger breakpoints in external libraries no matter what I do.
I've referenced the library directly from my application, removed any swc references internally, did a clean etc. This never happened before when I never had these conditional compiler arguments. Breakpoints also work fine within the context of the main application.
Has anyone experienced this before and know anyway to work around it?
(This doesn't ALWAYS happen, sometimes the very same library works fine, but other times it does not)
    Thanks,
    Sean

My two cents on this issue & how I resolved it.
I was getting a similar message which referenced a location in C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash, and was looking for this version of the Flash Player: Flash64_10_3_162.ocx
What I tried that did NOT help:
Re-associating the SWF file type to open with a Flash Player debugger version downloaded from Adobe's site.
These three steps resolved the issue for me:
I had installed the 64-bit version of the Flash Player a few months ago, so I uninstalled that since it cannot be used by Flash Builder as a debugger. Back in FB 4.5.1, I got another message saying Flash was not installed at all.
I used Adobe's Flash uninstaller tool and then,
re-installed the latest debuggers for IE & Firefox.
I can now debug in IE or FF without any issues. FB finds the debug version of the Flash Player.
From what I saw when researching this, there seem to be many causes for this issue so I'll give Adobe some slack here. I will point out that the post from Adobe employee Anirudh Sasikumar, above, was not helpful in my case and was in fact misleading and not specific enough as to the location of the file he referenced. I searched for that file and found dozens of them on my machine, none in any location he mentioned. I wish he would have taken a little more time to give a complete path to this file. Maybe he did, but I could not find that path, or folders, on my machine. I work in a tightly-controlled network environment so perhaps these folders are ones I cannot see due to permissions issues, but it would've saved me time to get a complete path to start with.
For complete and full disclosure, here is my set-up; hopefully this will help others with a similar setup who are experiencing this nagging issue:
    Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit, Service Pack 1
    Flash Builder 4.5.1.313231
    Eclipse 3.6.1r361_v20100909xxxxxxx
Flash Debugger version (IE & FF): 10.3 r183

  • Flash builder 4 and flash 10.1 standalone debugger issue on osx

If I use the standalone flash debugger version (Flash Player Debugger 10.1.52.14) with flash builder 4 on osx 10.6.3 then this happens:
I compile the project and the debugger opens. If I click the red stop button then it never closes the debugger. I have to close it manually. Doing that means I have to use clean alot more and often up to 3 renders open after that.
If I switch over to the standalone "Flash Player Debugger 10.0.42.34" then the red stop button works fine and I dont get duplicate players launching.
    Anyone else experience this?
I don't use the web player versions.

10.1.53.64 is the latest standalone version. Could you please try with that version?
    You'll get it here: http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

I have been using the Flash debugger in the past (WIN 9.x) and this worked fine. Currently I am using v10.1.53.64 to debug a Flex application.
    == This happened ==

  • Flash Debugger vs Player

I am getting a strange error that happens only in the debugger. The regular flash player itself has no problem running .swf but the debugger throws a type coercion error.
Before this I had issues with security, and external files couldn't be loaded correctly. I am guessing these are still some how connected.
How can aleviate this headache, that I am getting only in the flash debugger.
I assume by matching the configuration of both utilities, but I am not sure how, or if it solve my problems.

Sounds like whoever wrote the code to check for flash version
    stuffed it up.
Without seeing your site, and the script involved in
    detecting the flash
version, its impossible to tell why its not working.

  • Strangeness with CS3 Flash Debugger

    Hello friends,
I'm relatively new to Flash, but since I bought the new CS3
this summer I've made a concerted effort to learn how to use it in
my projects. One thing I've never been able to understand is the
debugger -- it just seems inconsistent? If I set a breakpoint and
Debug the SWF *sometimes* the debugger will correctly stop on the
appropriate line of code. From there, I can load the panel which
shows the active variables, state, etc. More often than not, when
debugging with breakpoints (or even a SINGLE breakpoint) the
debugger will stop when it encounters the breakpoint, however the
little arrow that shows where the execution has stopped is not
there -- its still just a little red circle indicating a
breakpoint. I can use the step in/step out commands, but I see no
feedback as to where the execution is taking place. Usually I end
up just issuing a "Continue" command, but that defeats the whole
point of a debugger. I'm quite familiar with debugging with Visual
Studios, Borland products and GDB on Linux. I feel like there is a
deficiency (or something I'm not aware of) with the CS3 Flash
debugger. Has anyone else experienced this bizaare behavior?
    Your comments are appreciated.
    Thanks! :)
PS: Initially I thought this problem only existed when I
typed AS3 in the frames of my SWF (because it seemd to work when I
wrote a separate .as class and linked it to the SWF as the document
class, however now even that assumption is failing me.

  • 10.9.2 Update Issue (VPN) - Eclipse Perl debugger issues while connected to VPN

This post was initially added to this discussion: 10.9.2 Mavericks update issues
I have yet another issue related to 10.9.2 update - Eclipse Perl debugger issues while connected to VPN...
One of the big changes introduced by 10.9.2 update - are VPN changes (security fixes). Unfortunately, whatever these changes are - they "broke" Eclipse (OpenSource IDE) debugger. I am not sure if *all* programming languages (Eclipse plugins) are affected by this, but I know for sure that 'Epic' (Perl plugin) debugger *stopped working* while system is connected through VPN.
Here is the error that gets “popped-up” in the Eclipse:
Timed out while waiting for Perl debugger connection
… and here is exact exception stack that gets printed:
Unable to connect to remote host: 130.10.210.74:5000
    Compilation failed in require.

    END failed--call queue aborted.
    at /Users/valeriy/workspace/ROBO-PROD-RA-685/src/lib/test/Val_test.pm line 0.
(of course IP address changes dynamically for each VPN connection session)…
I was able to prove that this issue is related to 10.9.2 update:
Issue *does not* exist under 10.9.1 (I had to revert back to 10.9.1 to get it working again)
No updates were performed around the same time 10.9.2 update occurred (I verified that using Software Update log)
No configuration changes were introduced around the same time
Reverting back to 10.9.1 using Time Machine (thanks god I had backup !!!) fixed the issue
    Steps to reproduce this issue:
In Eclipse, try to use 'Epic' (Perl plugin) to debug any perl script while *not* connected through VPNEpic debugger works
    Connect to VPN
Start Epic debugger to debug same script
Debugger *does not* start, and "Timed out while waiting for Perl debugger connection" error pop-up comes up after some time. At the same time, exception stack (listed above) is printed in Eclipse's console
I am programmer/software developer, I work remotely (telecommute) and thus have to rely on use of VPN to connect to company's intranet. Perl - is primary language used by my team, and we use Eclipse IDE with Epic plugin - heavily. Use of Epic's debugger - is a *very large* aspect of my work, I cannot work without it. So in essense, 10.9.2 has *entirely* disrupted my ability to work! It took me almost a week to get back to normal work environment, and I cannot afford to let it happen again... I need Apple's development team resolve this VPN related issue, as soon as possible! Because of this issue, I am *stuck* with 10.9.1 and can not upgrade my laptop to any other versions. In fact, I had to disable system updates - just so I do not run into this issue again... I contacted Apple's Tech Support on 02/28 with this issue (Ref: 582428110), asking to raise trouble ticket. Since then, I tried to follow-up on that issue, but do not get any information. Please advise on the status:
is there a trouble ticket to track this issue?
    is there any progress?
what's the ETA for an update that fixes this problem?

  • Flash Player Issue with Windows 8.1 Professional

    Hi guys,
I'm currently having issues with Flash Player on Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 8.1. It seems that the Flash Player has been disabled when I access http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/flash-player-issues-windows-8.html.
However, when I logged off the my domain account and use my local account, I'm able to test Flash Player.
Therefore, the only thing I can think of is the Group Policy that is blocking the Flash Player as I've resetted IE settings on my domain account.
Hopefully you guys are able to solve this mystery.
    Thanks!!

Go to control panel and go to program and features and uninstall existing adobe player

Then select windows 8 and flash player  from here http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/

  • Suddenly Can't Connect to Flash Debugger

Out of the blue today my flex builder stopped breaking at
breakpoints. While trying to troubleshoot I discovered that if I
right-click on the flash application, and choose Debugger, I can
try to connect on either LocalHost or Other Machine. I clicked
Connect with LocalHost selected and got the following error:
"A connection to the Debugger or Profiler could not be
established by Adobe Flash Player 9."
I tried to use Other Machine with my local IP address, as
suggested in another forum, but it also failed.
I've got the latest Flash debugger, and my firewall is turned
off. Does anyone have a clue as to why this would suddenly start
happening after months of the debugger working?

I checked out my Flash Version on the site above and it looks
    like it's fine.
    quote:
    Your Player Version: WIN 9,0,124,0
    Debug Player: Yes
    Operating System: Windows XP
    Video Capable: Yes
    Audio Capable: Yes
    Local File I/O Enabled: Yes
The odd thing is that the trouble seemed to start out of the
blue. I've been debugging in FireFox for months, then one morning
it can't connect to the debugger. Luckily I can debug in IE, but I
still don't know what's up with FireFox.
    Thanks for the suggestions.

  • Flash debugger Extremely slow

I am currently using Flash Builder 4 and building my first project with FlexSDK 4 .
To debug the application I installed the Flash debugger version plugin (v10.1.53.64) for FF  .
Don't know if there is some parameter I need to set, but it is Extremely (imagine the caps ) slow. Actually I just cannot work this way.
I have been using the debugger before and it was extremely powerfull and fast. Don't know what the problem is.  I already reinstalled a few times, no luck however.
    Anyone ?
    thx

    I have found the problem.
When using the default player, it ran as usual (thus fast ....) . Once using the  debugger it became horribly slow.
Then I started testing right into the folder where the application was deployed. Then I found a missing file.
However , I thought when copying a file into the src, Flash Builder automatically created a duplicate in the debug folder.  This did not happen and that is why the application locked up (as it could not read the file).
So what is the proper way to handle missing files programmatically. ?
    thx

  • Flash debugger needs an expression-watch window

    Hi.
I would like to propose in next update of (CS4 or CS5 - if it hasn't yet implemented) to add an expression-watch window.
I want to use Debugger to find a bug, inside a movieclip, that has dynamic created other movieclips and I want to check some variables. Utilizing the debbuger as is now, for this case, is almost useless - I use trace() instead.
    I.e.
    var ny = mmask.y-DCs[Cur].y;
I want to see the value of DCs[Cur].y.
In order to see this, in current debugger, I have to:
    1. Check "Cur" variable. I.e. Cur == 5.
    2. Open Object "this" and find the DCs
    3. Open Object DCs[5], and search for y.
It's total timewaste... ...a "trace(DCs[Cur].y);" command is faster - and repeatable in any re-run!...
I never used the Flash CS3/CS4 debugger, because of the lack of such a feature. I don't know if it exist - if it is, please inform me on how to do it.
Add a "watch" variables window, that will allow expression that will refresh them.
It would be excellent - for debugging - instead of using "trace()" to dynamically check code and expressions, to add the "trace" string, into a window of the debbuger, and it to be validate automatically in each refresh (every step/forced refresh).
Thus instead of using trace() here and there in my code, with identifiers in the string, to know where the trace is refering, I would use the trace strings in that expression-watch window - organized in tabs (groups).
It would be great, if we could use and multiple tabs - to set groups of watch-expressions. (I.e. in C++, MSVC 6, had 5 tabs for such reason - and you could add more (and name them)). It also would be great, if those tabs and their watch-expression, could be saved into the file, during saving - thus then to restore them as is, during .fla loading.
I am hoping in CS5 to have add that feature.
That would be a great power for Flash Debugger (replacing trace() with Debugger UI tracing window -> expressions-watch window!), and it would be a really good reason to use it - and/or buy Flash (instead of free applications) for that professional reason.
Btw, also please add the feature to saving the Actionscript Tabs into the .fla file!... It's annoying thing, everytime i am reloading a .fla file, to have to re -set the Actionscripts tabs, in order to continue my work!...
Ps. If this message, is not going to be seen from developers of Flash, please tell me where to add the aboves suggestions for future updates of Adobe Flash - or add them, yourselves!

  • Installing Flash Player Issues

I have a Windows 8 Operating Sysytem and I use IE version 8. I have downloaded the latest flash player numerous times and it continues not to work. So can someone please help me install it?????? Thanks in advance

If you have Windows 8, you CANNOT use IE 8, because Windows 8 comes with IE 10 preinstalled and it WON'T accept a lower version.
In addition, Flash Player for IE in Windows 8 is modified and embedded by Microsoft. It's "their baby" so to speak. It can ONLY be updated through Windows Update (in your Control Panel under System and Security).
Microsoft released a "Tuesday patch" November 12 to update Flash Player for IE10 and IE11 in Windows 8 and 8.1.
If you run the update and still have problems, see: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/flash-player-issues-windows-8.html for more steps to take.

  • Would flash player issues cahnge desktop icons?

I'm starting a seperate discussion on this issue as it is truly different than my other postings
    I use Vista Home premium
I have many icons on my desk top, mostly shortcuts to program. Yesterday I had to reboot several times when trying to update to ne flash player.
Then upon one reboot, I noticed that some, just like 3, Icons changed.
    Example
icon for the shortcut to itunes looked like the icon picture for the game dinerdash
icon for shortcut to the game Bakerydash looked like the icon for spider solitaire
now when I would right click on these shortcuts, they would show the proper data for the shortcut they truely were Whe I would right click on the icon and then select change icon, the only option there was the actual correct icon. I'd hit apply, but it did not good.
I ran virus/spyware scans and all were clean.
Could it be because of flash player issues? or because  I had rebooted several times in a row and did not allow the system to fully reboot before trying the next reboot??
Like I would reboot and then 7 minutes later reboot again. Could that cause the icons to screw up a little?

I don't know what changed the desktop icons, but it is one of these things that just happen sometimes.
Windows XP had a great tool, TweakUI (from Windows Power Toys), that has a 'Repair Icons' function.  Microsoft never released a TweakUI version for Vista, but I know that a 3rd-party version of TweakUI for Vista can be found on the Internet (Google will find it for you).
I would try to use this to repair your desktop icons.
P.S. since this TweakUI is not a Microsoft tool, I recommend to make a System Restore point before running it; just in case...
