Flash transparency

Hello,
I was wondering if it's possible to set part of a Flash
document to be transparent so that the desktop can be seen beneath.
I've built a project that runs off of a CD with the document
properties set at 800x600. Since I don't want it to be scaled to
fit larger monitors I set the scaling to "false" and put in an
"overlay" layer that has a black shape that's roughly 1800x1800
with an open are of 800x600 in the middle to reveal the artboard.
I've set full screen to be "true" so that the entire screen fills
with black, except for that 800x600 area. I'd like to set that
black area to a 70% transparency so that the desktop beneath can
barely be seen. Right now when I adjust the transparency it just
lightens up the back because the grey area that goes beyond the
artboard starts to show through. Is it possble to keep that grey
area from publishing with the document in order for the 70% black
to work the way I want?
thanks!

  • Problems with flash transparent drop down menu over html in some browsers

    Hi everyone... this is my first post and it's about an issue
    that's causing me a few problems.
    I'm currently designing/ building my company's web site, the
    test page be viewed here: www.musflashtv.com/test.htm
    1) This layout contains an embeded flash movie (.swf) with a
    transparent background, this is the main navigation.
    The flash navigation has a drop down menu that animates down
    and covers the html page (containing links) below.
    The problem is that in most current browsers such as; Firefox
    2.0.05 (links below template don't work), Netscape 8.1.3
    (navigation drop down and links don't work) and Opera 9.10 (links
    below template don't work), any links just below the 'invisible'
    transparent area coverd by the navigation can't be clicked 'through
    the flash file'. The exception is IE 7.0, everything is fine there.
    (it hasn't been tested in any mac browsers though).
    Because the area below the navigation on
    www.kitachi.info/work is one large dummy jpeg file, the link below
    would be a much better example to look at.
    http://www.musflashtv.com/shows/ind...tlight-Sessions
    The flash navigation is embedded in the html (tlp) template
    file using the code below and aligned using an external style
    (.css) sheet, this html code not only embeds the flash movie but it
    also tells the browser to display it's background and as
    transparent. The flash movie is embedded in a layer that sits above
    the table.
    3) The flash embed code:
    <object
    classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="
    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0"
    name="shows-navigation-tranparent" width="851" height="300"
    align="top" class="flash-navigation"
    id="shows-navigation-tranparent">
    <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" />
    <param name="movie"
    value="flash/navigation-tranparent.swf" />
    <param name="quality" value="high" />
    <param name="wmode" value="transparent" />
    <param name="bgcolor" value="#000000" />
    <param name="SCALE" value="exactfit" />
    <embed src="flash/navigation-tranparent.swf" width="851"
    height="300" align="top" quality="high" wmode="transparent"
    bgcolor="#000000" name="navigation-tranparent"
    allowscriptaccess="sameDomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"
    pluginspage="
    http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"
    scale="exactfit" />
    </object>
    Does anybody know of any code that can solve this problem or
    know a different way of creating a flash navigation with a drop
    menu that can be embeded over html?
    Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated especially as
    this issue is holding back progress in a big way.
    Thanks in advance guys!

    It's IE-only behaviour as a result of changes Microsoft made
    last
    year to their browser, regarding how Active Content (Flash,

  • Flash transparency in Firefox?

    I have a flash navigation menu and a flash app right underneath it, but the transparency modes are not working in firefox.  They work fine in IE though.  You can get a better understanding of what I mean by viewing the page.  You'll notice that in FireFox, you can't use the top 1/4 or so of the game, but in IE you can.  Anyone know why exactly?  Thanks!
    Jesse

    Ok, you'll notice that if you view the page in firefox, you cannot interact with the game until about halfway down the game's stage, but you can in IE.  You'll notice the animating speaker that you can click on in order to stop the music, but it's inaccessible in firefox, but accessible in IE.  The reason for this is because the navigation is actually 275px tall (because it has dropdowns), but I have it's wmode set to transparent.  The navigation is sitting inside of a div that is positioned absolute and has a z-index of 1 so the game is not pushed all the way down to its actual bottom (y of 275px), but rather sits right underneath it.
    The problem is that even though I have the navigation's z-index set to 1 and it's wmode set to transparent, the game sits directly underneath it, but is not "interactable" until you get the cursor past the height of the navigation (275px).  See what I'm saying?  So essentially this is what you're looking at for the page code:

  • Flash transparency to Premiere Elements 7?

    I'm making a credit sequence for a  Web video. I've posted a five-second clip here that makes pretty clear what I'm hoping to do. The static television opener looks fine, and the bouncy text bounces fine but is encased by black rectangles. I know that they're a result of transparency (the yellow glow around the lettering is set to Screen), but I don't know what's possible or how much I have to redo.
    Here's the workflow that went into this so far:
    The red text (and yellow glow) was drawn in AICS4 and saved as a document with one artboard and three layers;
    that document was imported into FlashCS4, made into a symbol, and used in three motion tweens (down fast, up fast, settle slow) with a transparent background, and exported as .swf.
    That .swf was imported into PE7.
    (The cascading polka-dot background behind the bouncing text is a separate .swf playing on its own layer in PE7.)
    So, what do you suggest? Do I have to lose the yellow glow - or set it to 'Normal" in AI? If I have to save a new AI document, can I alter the Flash symbol so that I don't have to redraw the tweens? (I'm not very adept, and it probably took me half an hour.)
    Posting in AI, Flash and PE7 forums, because I don't know where I should be making the changes. Thanks in advance for any advice.

    I have a large amount of tagged photos (5000+) in PS, but don't use the "Send to Premiere Elements" option for SlideShow export because of some of the editing limitations stated.
    My workflow via PS is as follows:
    I select the Photos (itemized via Tag, or individually).
    File Menu/Export/As New Files/
    Select File Type (typically I use Jpeg or PSD)
    Photo Size (800x600 ~ this will down-rez for PE)
    Pick a Location (a folder of my choice)
    Export...
    I now have a new set of correct resolution Photos sitting in a separate folder waiting to be loaded into PE.
    When I'm done with the Project, I delete these Photos, and free up space...

  • Flash transparency in dreamweaver

    After creating a flash navigation banner side bar, i have
    inserted it into my page in dreamweaver. The problem was within the

    are behind the text on the page which i dont want to happen, i want
    it to be on top of the text. Can anyone suggest a way of doing

  • Flash Transparency Issue

    I am working on a site and it's home page is done all in
    flash. From that main flash piece there is a button that once
    clicked should load an external swf that contains a video clip.
    That external swf has the transparency turned on.
    The external swf does load but I cannot actually see it. I
    know it has loaded because I can hear the audio of the video clip.
    I can use the same code on a page that is strictly html and it
    works fine.
    I assume that the external transparent swf is loading up
    behind the main swf. Has anyone else come across this before? Is
    there a know issue of overlaying a transparent swf over another
    swf?

    your post is confusing - the flash stage is transparent by
    default - so "having transparency turned
    on" is hard to understand as this isn't a menu or button
    option to have it off or on.
    besides audio - what else is there? and if nothing then you
    wouldn't see it anyway - sorry if i
    missed the point.
    What is your loadMovie code? are you loading into a level or
    movie clip?
    hope this helps.

  • Flash Transparency not working in Safari 4??

    Hey Guys
    So I have a swf embedded into the webpage, it has a transparent background. It works fine in Firefox, Opera, IE and Safari 3 (windows version) but in Safari 4 (windows version) I get a white background instead of the transparency. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can resolve it ?
    Thanks

    Ok, the issue has been fixed. It looks like there was a bug in the flash player so updating it to the latest version fixed the issues with safari 4.

  • Strange bug - flashing transparent rectangles

    Hello - I've just upgraded to a 2.4 ghz imac, 2gb RAM, Radeon HD 2400 graphics card, OSX 10.5.6. I've been trialling Photoshop CS4 and occasionally notice a random bug - (I haven't been able to identify what sets it off - sometimes just making a layer invisible then visible, or selecting an area with the lasoo) - transparent (ie. grey/white chequered) rectangles start appearing as the screen redraws, and parts of the image start blurring and shimmering. I quit, restart, and all is fine again for a few hours, and then it starts again?! The files I'm working on are by no means massive - 35MB . Any idea if it is a RAM or graphics card or Adobe or Mac or ? issue?! I'm also using an old Wacom with current driver - I haven't experienced this problem in any other program, though. Many thanks!

    The last external harddisk I bought privately was an IOMEGA 750 GB with all the alternatives for ports on it. I am very happy with it. That one is partitioned into 2 halves, one housing my Mac Book backup, the other housing my iMac backup. The original plan for that disk was not for backup, but for working (and I used it until recently for startup disk for various betas I didn't want to mix with my regular stuff)and for scratch.
    But along came the Mac Book alu (2,4 GHz) at work which replaced my black MacBook (2,16 GHz). Not my choice, but that was what we got (I would have preferred the new Mac Book Pro alu WITH FW). (We are also going to combine those with iPhones instead of regular SonyEricsson mobiles and regular phones before March - around 700 iPhones we are talking about - we are becoming entirely mobile, except for the editors which will get iMac 24" instead of the present old G5s).
    We (the Helpdesk of Scandinavias largest daily newspaper) are trying out the MacBook alus before we swop all the current MacBook and MacBook Pro users to them (several hundred users)during the coming spring (when we also switch to Leopard and CS3-CS4, CS3 for the editors (because of plug-in development for the publishing systems we use), CS4 for the photographers probably as they got brand new very advanced CANON cameras recently).
    So now my external harddisk for scratches is a meager 160GB LaCie with firewire only (which also houses one backup of my photos in addition to dvds) which I cannto use at all with my Mac Book Alu.
    Without the IOMEGA with all the ports on it I would not have been able to migrate my MacBook to the new Mac Book Alu as easily and fast as I did. My collegues struggled with it over the network by wireless hub and Airport for whole days.
    Conclusion: if you can find one with both USB2 and firewire all the better for the future. That's what I am looking for personally. But I only see usb 2 ones in all the stores (unless I go to Apple store and pay a lot more than in a regular electronics store like MediaMarkt). The Swedish Apple Store has a IOMEGA 1TB Minimax with both firewire and usb that looks interesting. Reading specs though tells me that USB 2.0 is faster than the firewire 400 in it. FW 800 is not present on all machines. I guess a Western Digital 1TB My Book Studio Edition with both fw400 and 800 and usb 2.0 gives you more for the money. Or a Iomega UltraMax Desktop Hard Drive 750GB And in the long run is a better investment regardless of which machines it will be connected to in the future.

  • Photoshop CS6 doesn't recognize my Fuji XT-1 HD Movie File

    Hi all,
    Can anyone give me a hand with this? I keep getting an error message telling me that PSCS6 doesn't recognize this  FFDB.DAT file. I'm super confused because I thought all movies were supposed to show up as .mov. Can anyone help? I'd like to get this figured out asap.
    Thanks so much,
    Stacey

    Update: I formatted my SD card and now I see my .mov file and can navigate to it fine. NOW, the issue is that Photoshop just tells me the file can't be opened but I can view it in QuickTime just fine. Does this narrow it down and can someone give me a fix for this? This is a trial version of PSCS6 I'm using.

    Okay, I figured it out...duh.
    My bad...or rather, Nvidia's bad!
    In their app profiler, they set Photoshop to use the "default" settings, which defaults to the integrated graphics.  By changing the profile to make it use the discreet graphics, it worked!
    This also fixed my issue of the background flashing / flickering.
    I know that's a known bug with Windows 8 + AMD (http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/image-background-transparent-or-flickers.html)
    However, Adobe should look into this same bug occuring with the Intel HD4000 integrated GPU, because this happened with my laptop.
    Maybe that bug doesn't occur on systems that only have an integrated GPU, but on systems with Optimus, it's definitely a reproducible issue.
    When I switch back to integrated, the issue pops up again.
    It's nice that Nvidia provides an option for us to either use the integrated or discreet graphics, however, Adobe needs to follow through and make sure that Photoshop doesn't wig out when we're using the integrated GPU.  Sometimes, your customers need to do work on battery power, so the integrated flickering /flashing /transparent background bug definitely needs to be fixed.
    Personally, I can get 6hrs out of this laptop running the integrated GPU, but when I use the discreet, that cuts it down to only 2hrs.

  • Photoshop CS6 doesn't recognize my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M GPU?

    I just bought a brand new Alienware M17x R4 with Windows 8 Pro x64 and Photoshop CS6 won't recognize my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M GPU?
    I've already updated Windows 8, Photoshop and the Nvidia graphics driver.
    Any ideas?  I spent so much on a nice graphics card but now it seems PS CS6 can't even use it.  It's using the Intel HD4000 instead:
    I also tried this:  http://forums.adobe.com/message/4545768#4545768
    And deleted the settings but that didn't help.
    According to this, my graphics card should work, it's a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M, which is a 600 series GPU:  http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/photoshop-cs6-gpu-faq.html#tested_cards
    Tested video cards for Photoshop CS6
    Adobe tested the following video cards before the release of Photoshop CS6. This document lists the video card by series. The minimum amount of RAM supported on video cards for Photoshop CS6 is 256 MB. Photoshop 13.1 cannot display 3D features if you have less than 512 MB VRAM on your video card.
    Important: This document is updated as newly released cards are tested. However, Adobe cannot test all cards in a timely manner. If a video card is not listed here, but was released after May 2012, you can assume that the card will work with Photoshop CS6.
    Adobe tested laptop and desktop versions of the following cards. Be sure to download the latest driver for your specific model. (Laptop and desktop versions have slightly different names.)
    nVidia GeForce 8000, 9000, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 series
    I've run out of ideas.  Any suggestions?
