Our Application developement team is planning to migrate from current Flex 2.0.1 version to Flex 3.0.2 in six months time. We are planning to create automation suite using Flex builder profession 3.0.2. Do you know how much of rework will be required to migrate test automation scripts developed using Flex 2.0.1 to Flex 3.0.2

SOLUTION: Building the Flex 2 FlexStore application in Flex 3

I gave step by step instructions on building the Flex 2 FlexStore application in Flex 3 as a post in the Adobe Flex 3 Cookbook:

If you don't want to go there, here are the instructions:
1) Download the Adobe FlexStore archive flexstore.zip file.
    - go to http://examples.adobe.com/flex2/inproduct/sdk/flexstore/flexstore.html
    - right-click the application and select View Source
    - click the "Download source (ZIP, 1769K)" link in bottom of the left-side-bar
2) Create a directory "flexstore" somewhere on your harddrive
3) Extract the contents of the flexstore.zip file to the directory flexstore you
   just created. The directory flexstore should now have these top-level contents:
       assets           (directory)
       data             (directory)
       productsView     (directory)
       samples          (directory)
       AC_OETags.js     (file)
       beige.css        (file)
       blue.css         (file)
       build.bat        (file)
       build.sh         (file)
       flexstore.html   (file)
       flexstore.mxml   (file)
       HomeView.mxml    (file)
       main.css         (file)
       ProductsView.mxml    (file)
       README.htmlSupportView.mxml   (file)
4) Launch Flex Builder 3.
5) Select File - Switch Workspace and change the workspace to the directory
   containing the directory "flexstore" you created.
6) After Flex Builder re-launches, create a new Flex Project named "flexstore":
    - ensure the "Web application" radio button is selected for "Application type"
    - click the "Next" button, not the "Finish" button
    - click "Next" again in the "Configure Output" screen
    - ensure the "Main source folder" TextInput has "src" in it
    - ensure the "Main application file" TextInput has "flexstore.mxml" in it
    - click the Finish button
7) Drag all the unzipped files now visible in your Flex Builder "flexstore" project
   folder to the "src" folder Flex Builder created for you, and click "Yes" when
   asked if you want to overwrite the flexstore.mxml file Flex Builder created for you.
8) In Flex Builder, drag the following folders into the "src" folder:
    - assets
    - data
    - productsView
    - samples
9) Right click file build.bat and select Open With - Text Editor.
    - Remove the following line from the file:
         ..\..\bin\mxmlc.exe %OPTS% flexstore.mxml
    - Edit the following lines, replacing "..\..\bin\mxmlc.exe" with the hardcoded
      path to the mxmlc compiler for the Flex 3 SDK, which on my computer is
      "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 3\sdks\3.2.0\bin\mxmlc.exe". Make sure
      it is enclosed in double-quotes. This will be to build.sh for Mac users.
         BEFORE
         ..\..\bin\mxmlc.exe %OPTS% beige.css
         ..\..\bin\mxmlc.exe %OPTS% blue.css
         AFTER
         "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 3\sdks\3.2.0\bin\mxmlc.exe" %OPTS% beige.css
         "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 3\sdks\3.2.0\bin\mxmlc.exe" %OPTS% blue.css
10) Open a DOS window (Terminal in Mac) and change the current directory to the "src"
    directory on the local harddisk, which for me is:
    C:\aaaFlexApps\flexstore\src
11) Execute build.bat (build.sh on Mac).
12) Ensure beige.swf and blue.swf are created in the project "src" directory.
13) Select Project - Clean to rebuild the project.
14) Ensure beige.swf and blue.swf and all the other files from the src
    directory were copied to the bin-debug folder.
15) You should now be able to launch the application.

FLEX Builder Pro 3 New Flex Project cannot configure J2EE

I have FLEX Builder Pro 3 installed on a Windows XP machine. LiveCycle Data Services is installed (with Tomcat) on a Linux RHEL 5 machine. When trying to create a new FLEX project and configuring a J2EE server am very confused on what to put in Root Folder and Root URL. I have tried various paths on the Root Folder (with a drive mapped through windows and also with just using the servername) and keep getting the error message:
Invalid root. The WEB-INF/flex folder must contain either flex-config.xml or services-config.xml.
I've located the flex-confing file in the tomcat5\webapps\ROOT\WEB-INF directory, but still get the error.
Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are your new classes referenced from the old code? Mxmlc employs a questionable form of "as-needed" linking, so classes that are not referenced from the main application are not even compiled. This referencing requirement is recursive; that is, any classes that are to be included have to be referenced from the main application, or from classes referenced by the main application, or from classes referenced by classes referenced by the main application, and so on. But if your new classes are not referenced at all from the old code, they will be ignored.

Help installing Flex SDK 4.1 on Flex Builder 3 properly

Flex Builder 3 comes with SDK for 2.0.1 and 3.2 by default, so I want to add Flex SDK 4.1
I downloaded it, made a directory in the Flex Builder 3 sdks folder, and unzipped the contents there.
After adding it and selecting/checking it on Flex Builder, I tried to use it by running a project I was using with 3.2 and I get the error below:
unable to open 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 3\sdks\4.1.0\frameworks\libs\player\9.0\playerglobal.swc'
What do I need to do or didn't do?

You can not use SDK 4.1 in flex builder 3. You need to purchase Flash Builder 4 or use free SDK 4.1 in eclipse.

I am tryng to create a Flex Project, but got stuck with an error....
The Error is Invalid root. The WEB-INF/flex folder must contain either flex-config.xml or services-config.xml.
Initially I download jboss-5.1.0.GA and placed it in C folder.
While creating project, I selected J2EE server, selected remote object access service and LiveCycle Data Services...
In the next step, I de-selected the use default location for local LiveCycle Data Services server.
In the root folder - C:\jboss-5.1.0.GA
for Root URL: http://localhost:8700/flex/
Context Root: /flex
when I clicl Validate Configuration.. this is the error I get Invalid root. The WEB-INF/flex folder must contain either flex-config.xml or services-config.xml.
I can't understand what is going wrong here....any ideas....

Run the wizard, select ColdFusion as the server technology, but don't
check the option to use remote object access service. Then, open the
project properties dialog, go to the Flex Compiler page, and add a the
compiler flag: -services
"C:\ColdFusion8\wwwroot\WEB-INF\flex\services-config.xml" (obviously
changing the path as appropriate). This flag is what gets set by the

Above is a work-around/solution that was successful for me. Below are screen shots of how I initially configured the project, following the above solution.
In the image above, notice how I didn't tick the "Use remote object access service" checkbox.
For the image below, the 'Y:\' value is a mapped network directory to my server (IIS) webroot, which is "\\windowsserver/Inetpub/wwwroot/". Root URL is the name of my server. Fill in the fields with correct values and hit finish.
Then navigate ( Project>Properties>Flex Compiler ) to this project's 'Flex Compiler context menu.
And 'W:\' is another mapped network directory that points obviously to my Coldfusion's WEB-INF\flex.
I hope that this helps. As you may see, I'm hoping that this will help you and others that are likely to come across problem.

Shifting Flex project from Flex SDK 3.5 to Flex SDK 4.0

I am currently working on a Flex project using Flex 3.5 SDK. I want to shift my project to Flex 4.0 SDK.
When I changed the project settings to use SDK 4.0, I got lot of unknown location errors.
1) 1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: ImportExportConfiguration
2) 1061: Call to a possibly undefined method setSelection through a reference with static type mx.core.ITextInput
While the same code of flex was working satisfactorily in Flex SDK 3.5.
Please tell, how can I get rid of these error and successfully shift my project to Flex SDK 4.0.

While I am migrating my project from flex 3.5 to Flex 4, I have to keep the Flex 3 compatibility mode off and theme as Flex 4 default theme that is Spark.
Then while i compile I get foloowing errors:

What is the resolution for these, as for most of the controls there is no substitute to these properties. If I do not want ot change my <mx:> controls to <s:>controls because it will hamper my UI look and field, which I cannot afford to do.
I have added following lines at the beginning of my stylesheet (*.CSS) as well:
     @namespace "http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml";
    @namespace "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx";
    @namespace s "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark";

Xcelsius 2008 sp3 and Flex 2.0.1 Hotfix3 - Flex 3 Charts

I'm working inserting some Flex charts into Xcelsius, but I've been having some compatibility problem. Let me explain:
I have Xcelsius 2008 sp3 and I'm working in Flex builder 3 but when I was creating the xcelsius-objects project. I selected to compile the project the Flex builder 2.0.1 hotfix 3 SDK.
When I have used this SDK I have not all the capabilities in the column chart that I need, some labels option in ColumnChart doesn't work, but when I selected Flex 3 SDK to compiled the entire ColumnChart object doesn't appear. If I try to insert the project builted in Flex 3 SDK when I open Xcelsius, I receive a lot of Exceptions, like to Xcelsius didn't found some clases. If I insert the project built on Flex 2.0.1 Hotfix 3 SDK the capabilities that I need don´t work.
Please Help me because this is driving me crazy.

Hi,
Xcelsius 2008 is built using Flex SDK 2.0.1 Hotfix 3 so that is the version of Flex SDK you have to use because it is not possible to mix and match versions of the Flex SDK in a SWF.
So to create your add-ons you cannot use any Flex 3 or Flex 4 SDK components, only Flex 2.

Installing flex builder 3 to create flex application

Hi all,
I am new to adobe flex.
I have installed flex builder from adobe.com free downloads section which is a trail version for 60 days.
The file name after installing is "FB3_WWEJ_Plugin.dmg ". Is this downloaded file correct ? if so how do i open this file?
If its wrong Could somebody please provide me the link where flex builder 3 can be downloaded?
What steps to be taken after installation?
Please guide me.

I tried that but my problem is that the code is so old. At least what I saw. I don't know how old is too old and I'm trying to do things "right." I saw code from 1998, but I don't know if that's still what you do. It might still work, but that doesn't mean it's correct. There's so much out there on Java that so old that half the time I'm not sure what to do because some other technology in J2EE or the latest Java SDK might have come up with a new way to do things. Flex PHP Wizard Issues (Is Flex/PHP ready for prime time)

I have been designing a website using Flex. I thought of using Flex form many reasons, but one was to reduce the number of languages used in the development process. I am going to be hosting at Godaddy so I thought I would try PHP. I normally would use Java, but Flex seems to want Enterprise Beans and Java Remote Objects which cost to much and would probably not work on Godaddy. I started out with MAMP on a Apple computer and have design 60% of my application, when I started noticing as the database go larger, I started getting communication errors with the MAMP version of mysql. So I installed MySQL and and started using Apache and PHP that comes with OSX. The communication errors are increased.
Any suggestions? I am at the point, if I can find a proven programmer, with GoDaddy/Flex/MySQL/PHP and Java experience to help answer some question, I think I can come up with contract dollars.
First question is Flex ready? or is this an issue with PHP?

Hi , I am planning to use Flex Profiler to profile my Application .
I have developed a sample Application using Flex MXML ,some ActionScript classes for Events and Cairngorm , Java , Oracle as database and Blazeds .
Can i use Flex Performance Profiler to Profile my Application . ?? I am asking this question as i ad read the below line from Adobe site and My Application includes java Methods

Migration from Flex 2 beta 3 to Flex 2

Hi there,
Whoever is reading this stuff, may I take an honour to notify
you all, there are big big big changes in running a flex 2 beta 3
applciation in compare to running a flex 2 release application.
I am almost finish with my project now and when we ported the
application to flex 2 release version, the application is not
working at all. Below is the list of problems I am facing...
1. Datagrid not at all supporting array collection anymore
2. Tree.selectedIndex not working
3. Drag and drop methods not supportive
4. All UI constraints are changes...

I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems. A few APIs
did change from B3 to final, but you should be getting compile
errors for those. I can assure you that all of the areas you
mentioned were tested and are working for many folks so if you can
supply examples of what isnt working we can try to get you back up
and running.

Flex compiler in FlexBuilder and Flex SDK

I have downloaded Flex Builder 3.0.2 and Flex SDK 3.2. Are
they using the same version of Flex compiler?
Is there a way to check the version of Flex compiler?
