Flex 2 SDK; Can't Build Examples

I recently down loaded the Flex 2 (Flex_SDK_2) software.
After downloading it, it further required the down loading of an
JAVA SDK (I chose Java™ SE Development Kit 5 {jdkl.6.0_01}
from Sun based upon what I think you guys recommended).
I have included
“C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_01\bin” or
“C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_01\jre\bin” in
the system path.
However, when I try and build the examples using the provided
batch file which uses “.\bin\mxmlc” I get
Error: could not find JRE
Error: could not find Java 2 Runtime Environment.
I confirmed that the path was set properly by simply
executing “Java” or “Java-RMI” from the dos
prompt where the “mxmlc.exe” resides.
At the moment, I don’t know what to do next.
A point of clarification, it was my understanding that
“The free Flex Software Development Kit (SDK)” does not
have a 30-day trial period.

It turns out this was a syntax issue. I assumed “Ensure
that Java SDK is installed on the computer and that the
java_home/bin directory is defined in the system path.”,
meant
Set Path=C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_01\bin;….
not
Set java_home=C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_01

  • Installing Flex SDK into Flash Builder 4.7 problems

    Hi,
Im completely new to Flash Builder, today I have installed Flash Builder 4.7 & Flash CS6 from Creative Cloud for my son to start to learn game programming (with my help), I have used simple coding in web design however this terminology is new to me.
I bought my son the latest 'Foundation Game Design with ActionScript 3.0' book on recommendation but it was written when FB was version 4.5 so im guessing this might be the problem.
The book is very easy to follow but have hit problems at the beginning of the tutorials, the book talks about Flex SDK but it seems that FB 4.7 uses AIR SDK ?
So the first project called HelloWorld, we got up to:
Got an exclamation mark which said
'The import flash.display.Sprite is not used
    locally'
Continuing with the rest of the project the exclamation mark disappeared:
However on selecting run- Debug we got a blank Flash Player window  ('generate HTML wrapper file' was deselected)
So either we've done something wrong, or the book and FB version are not compatible?
    Any advice would be great!
    Thank you
    Latest ...
I thought that installing Flex SDK may solve the problem but after following instructions I have the error message, see image below. Really stumped now!

Sorry, if I went a little overboard. After re-reading your post, perhaps I should back up a little.
First, there are little things that Flash Builder (FB) will complain about. Having extra import statements in your code doesn't hurt anything. If I'm trying different solutions and then commenting out the code, the import statements will hang around, FB will complain, but just ignore it. If you see a little icon on the left edge of your code editor and its a red circle with an X in it, then that is something that will have to be fixed.
When you create an app in FB or Flash you can choose to create a web app which means it will run in a browser window. The project can optionally create an HTML wrapper, or web page that will load your app. In Flash Pro you can choose File->Publish Settings and there will be a checkbox on the left to publish a HTML wrapper. In FB, you can right click your project in the Package Explorer, select Properties at the bottom, select the ActionScript Compiler, and down at the bottom there will be a checkbox to create a HTML wrapper.
If you're just learning Flash Builder, then the FlexSDK 4.6 and the AIR SDK 3.1 that comes with it should be fine. You mentioned Apache SDK and I'd recently been working with that so I ended up getting side-tracked.
Getting an AIRSDK to work with when build ActionScript projects is easy. Just go to the adobe site, type AIR SDK in the search box, and you should find a page that will let you downloaded the latest version. There's also a page to let you download the latest AIR runtime, and if you were just going to run AIR apps and not build them, then that's all you would need. As a developer you'll want to install the runtime from the downloaded .exe file. With the SDK, after downloading it, installing it is easy. Just create a new folder an unzip the SDK into it, then place it somewhere easy to find. I put all my SDK's in their own directory right off the c: drive. So I have c:\AIRSDK_3.5.0.880 and c:\AIRSDK_3.7.0.1530. I use very descriptive folder names so I always know which SDK's I have to work from.
To use the SDK in Flash Pro select Help -> Manage AIR SDK, hit the plus button and add the folder you created. Now when you've opened a Flash project, you go to File->Publish Settings and select the combo box at the top, you'll see options like 'AIR 3.7.0.1530 for Android' in the list that reflect the SDK's you've added.
Generally with FB you'll be using a FlexSDK, or perhaps a FlexSDK overlaid with a newer version of AIRSDK. Overlaid basically means you copied the contents of the AIR SDK into the Flex Folder. The article I mentioned above will give you all the details on creating those. For instance, I downloaded the Apache Flex installer, installed it, then created an empty folder called c:\ApacheFlexSDK_4.9.1, launched the Apache installer, gave it the new empty folder I'd created, selected all the download options, and let it all download. If it launches a popup box or a security warning, you can allow it, and it will continue. Once you have the SDK and you want to use it with a project in FB, just right click the project, select Properties, selected that Compiler tab again, and up in the right corner you'll see 'Manage SDK's...'. Hit that link, add your new SDK to the list and give it a descriptive name, then selected the checkbox beside it to set it up as your default. If you do this, then all your projects set to use the default will automatically switch to it and rebuild. So if you want a project to stay with a specific SDK then select that option in your Compiler tab, and then you could use the combo box to select your new added SDK.
When I started with FB I think I spent the first 2 days going round and round with project settings and options until I got them all figured out.
When I develop, I usually have my browser open and I have bookmarks and favorites to let me quickly get to all the pages I use most often. Here are a few of them:
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/index.html  <---- The API reference. In the packages window check out 'Top Level' at the top and Language Elements near the bottom. I think I have this page open in one or more tabs almost every day.

Ok, I think I went a little overboard again.

  • Flex Builder 3.1 Standard and Flex SDK 4.1 build 16076

Hi I have a problem I have downloaded Flex SDK 4.1 16076 and added to my sdk list in Flex Builder. I can compile my program fine except when I change files the flash imports are removed and the code hints don't have any knowledge of flash.display and other base classes such as Movieclip and Sprite. As soon as a manually paste the imports into my class files it compiles again but can't be doing with copying imports back in every time I change a class file.
It didn't do this on version 4.0.0 - I have added   -static-link-runtime-shared-libraries=true to compiler arguments as I did have a problem with it firstly compiling about FontAsset.
Does anyone know why? Do I have to add another swc in?

You should always have separate workspaces for separate versions of Flash Builder.
Flex 3 and Flex 4 have some large differences.  You will probably want to spend some time reading about migrating by searching on Google.  Here is a good place to start: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/articles/flex3and4_differences.html

  • Latest flex sdk for Flash Builder 4

    HI,
We bought Flash Builder 4 Premium and installed it.
Now I want to use the latest flex sdk to use with it (I am working on a project using TLF 2).
What is the version I should install, is it sdk 4.1 or 4.5(Hero).
In Flex 4.1 there are about three variations http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/flexsdk/Downloads. Which one should I download if using 4.1 ?
    Please explain.
    Thanks

    Thanks Chris.
in sdk 4.1 download there are 3 download types. Can you please tell me the difference of 'Free Adobe Flex SDK' and 'Open Source Flex SDK' and which one should I use?
    Thank you very much

  • Steps to make FLEX SDK 3.0 build working for Linux

    Take Windows Flex 3.0 SDK
Copy to Linux system, go to folder Flex 3.0_SDK/b
Look for file compc & mxmlc
Change Dos to Unix files using command      dos2unix
    dos2unix  compc
    dos2unix  mxmlc
    For compc : line - 47
    java $VMARGS -jar "$FLEX_HOME/lib/compc.jar" +flexlib="$FLEX_HOME/frameworks" "$@"
    change it to >> "$@" > $@
    java $VMARGS -jar "$FLEX_HOME/lib/compc.jar" +flexlib="$FLEX_HOME/frameworks" $@
    For mxmlc : line - 47
    java $VMARGS -jar "$FLEX_HOME/lib/mxmlc.jar" +flexlib="$FLEX_HOME/frameworks" "$@"
    change it to >> "$@" > $@
    java $VMARGS -jar "$FLEX_HOME/lib/mxmlc.jar" +flexlib="$FLEX_HOME/frameworks" $@
    5. Make sure before firing the build that the SDK home is given correctly in build.properties file.
In case of any issues , please feel free to mail me your queries.
Incase of any issues in reading the article, please see the attachment which contains a document explaing it.
    As well as build.properties & Build.xml files.

You can do two things. First, the SDK 3.2 code should work fine for your application. It doesn't contain SDK 3.2, it is just linked against it but there shouldn't be any API changes that would cause you grief.
    http://flexunit.digitalprimates.net:8080/view/Flex%203.2/
However, if you do want to build it yourself (and you only need the SDK) the easiest way is actually to build it with FlexBuilder. Basically, inside of your Flex Builder just import a General Project (not the flex specific import menu) and choose the directory where the FlexUnit4 library was downloaded. Flex Builder should build that library fine and produce a swc which you can then use.
Last thing, if you need to stick with SDK 3.0 then no worries. However, if there is any way you can upgrade to a newer SDK I would recommend it. There have been some seriously hideous bugs fixed since then.

  • Can i update flex 4.6 sdk to flash builder 4.5 for php ?

    well
i already downloaded the 4.6SDK from http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=flexsdk site but once i add the new sdk to flash builder and try to make a new project
i cannot switch to design mode at all , gives me and erro rmessage: The Design mode is disabled as the project uses incompatible version of the flex SDK.
    What's the deal ?
    have to wait till Q1  / 12 ?
    Cheers
    Lare

If you're using components specific to the Flex 4.6 release, then it would be a natural assumption that design view will not work.  If you're having this issue while using components that are not unique to Flex 4.6, then I don't have an answer.  On a good note, design view is completely useless anyway.  It's much faster to type than to drag stuff around with your mouse needlessly.

  • How can I overlay AIR 3.5 SDK in Flash Builder 4.7?

I'm trying to overlay the new Air 3.5 sdk in Flash Builder 4.7 but the option to use specifed sdk is unavailable in the project preferences. What is the solution here?

    Hi,
Can you please let me know whether you have overlaid it on Win/Mac?
When you have created the mobile project what does app.xml show? for example if you have 3.5 overlaid you should be able to see something like this in app.xml
    <application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/3.5">
For overlaying AIR 3.5 SDK on Flex SDK 4.6 locally following the instructions mentioned in the below url and then create a Flex Mobile project using that SDK.
Overlay help document link : http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/how-overlay-air-sdk-flex-sdk.html

  • Can't package native installer on Linux with Flex SDK 4.5 : Invalid AIR file

    Hi,
We've moved our application to compile against the 4.5 SDK.
We're compiling it with Flash Builder (on mac) into an air file and as our application is using NativeProcess API, we're packaging it on each platform into a native installer with the following command (linux example) : adt -package -target native app.deb app.air
We think we fall into the same issue as http://forums.adobe.com/message/3271944#3271944 but for the 4.5 DSK.
On Linux it used to work with the following environment (env1):
    - Ubuntu 10.10
    - Java Sun 1.6.0_24
    - Flex SDK 4.1.0.16076 + Adobe Air SDK 2.5.0
It stops to work when we upgrade to the new Flex SDK (env2):
    - Ubuntu 10.10
    - Java Sun 1.6.0_24
    - Flex SDK 4.5.0.20967 (with the default embeded Adobe Air SDK 2.6)
The faut message is "Invalid AIR file" and nothing is logged in the log file (/home/<username>/.appdata/Adobe/AIR/Logs/Install.log).
    1) The .air file is installing correctly on env2 (without the support of the NativeProcess as expected)
    2) We also tried to compile the project directly on env2 :
    amxml app.mxml
    adt -package -storetype pkcs12 -keystore cert.p12 app.air app-app.xml air.swf
The .air file is installing fine but the packaging into a native process fails in the same way...
    3) We tried to package a native installer of our .air file on env1 and it works!!! (the installed application seems to work fine also on env2!!!)
Are we missing something or does it seems to be a bug of the Flex SDK 4.5?
Are there some restrictions to package a native installer with the Flex SDK 4.1 a air app build with the Flex SDK 4.5 ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mich

    Hi,
Finally we figure out how to solve the issue.
The packaging into native .deb installer fails as explain above because with the hole Flex SDK 4.5 (adt -version told 2.6.0.1920).
The packaging is successfull if only Air SDK 2.6 is install.
What is strange that both adt seems to be the same "2.6.0.1920" (found with "adt -version").
Can someone from the Adobe dev team explain it?
I suppose as the Flex SDK is not available for the Linux platform, the download only contains the Air SDK for Windows and Mac OS as opposed to the specific download of the Air SDK for te Linux platform...
    Thanks,
    Mich

  • Is Adobe FLash builder 4.7 compatible with flex sdk 3.5?

Is Adobe FLash builder 4.7 compatible with flex sdk 3.5?

Kind of.  I never actually solved the bug, but I did make it past the install.
Upon running Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 Plug-in Installer it appeared to crash and only load a blank screen with a single unclickable button.  It wasn't actually "hanging", and would react when I clicked on the program menu and moused over "Services".  This would allow my clicks and keystrokes to register with the program, but only after I mouse over the "Services" menu item.  For example, you need to click "okay", then mouse over "Services".  When you want to enter text you need to click in the text box, and mouse over "Services".  Then you need to type the text you want, and mouse over "Services" to see the text appear.  It's a PITA, but you can get through the install by doing this.
After installing the FB plug-in starting eclipse with editors open appeared to cause errors.  If this happens, this is because it seems that FB attempts to load when eclipse starts up.  Close all editors and restart eclipse.  The Welcome page for FB may pop open up.  At the bottom there is a check box that will keep that form loading - check it.  If the page does not open when eclipse starts, then open up an MXML file.  The Welcome page should load, and you can check the box.
I hope this helps you move forward.  Also, if you find an actual solution please let me know.

  • Flex 4.5 SDK in Flash Builder 4.0

I am attempting to use the Flex 4.5 SDK in Flash Builder 4.0, as my company does not yet have FB4.5.  Everything seems ok, however whenever I try to use the <s:ViewNavigatorApplication>  or the <s:View> Flash builder does not seem to recognize them, I am not getting any code hinting. I undersand the design view would not work, but as far as code view, FB should not know the differnece.  Does anyone know why they might not be showing up in FB 4.0. I can't seem to find anything on the net about it.

Just tried this out on an IIS server with Flash player 10.3.181.14 - it worked.
Are you using the release version of Flash Builder 4.5 with the release version of Flex SDK (not a prior SDK build)?
The URL you mentioned gives me a 403 forbidden error.

  • Help installing Flex SDK 4.1 on Flex Builder 3 properly

Flex Builder 3 comes with SDK for 2.0.1 and 3.2 by default, so I want to add Flex SDK 4.1
I downloaded it, made a directory in the Flex Builder 3 sdks folder, and unzipped the contents there.
After adding it and selecting/checking it on Flex Builder, I tried to use it by running a project I was using with 3.2 and I get the error below:
    unable to open 'C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 3\sdks\4.1.0\frameworks\libs\player\9.0\playerglobal.swc'
What do I need to do or didn't do?

    Hi,
You can not use SDK 4.1 in flex builder 3. You need to purchase Flash Builder 4 or use free SDK 4.1 in eclipse.

  • Flash Builder 4 with Flex SDK 4.0 for Intel App Up

There is some misinformation on Intel AppUp and the Melrose FAQ about being able to publish with Flash Builder 4.
    Intel App Up Program Submission
    According to http://appdeveloper.intel.com/en-us/article/adobe-air-packaging-guide-atom-developer-progr am-submissions
"AIR app must be built using Flex Builder 3 with Flex SDK 3.5a.  Currently Flex Builder 4 with Flex SDK 4 is not supported."
    Melrose FAQ
    According to http://learn.adobe.com/wiki/display/melrose/Melrose+Developer+FAQ
"Q: Are there system requirements for enabling try and buy in AIR apps using Melrose?
A: You must have Adobe Flex Builder 3 or greater and Adobe AIR 1.5.3 or greater."
Is the Intel App Up statement correct?  If it is, could I get an explanation why?  I've been waiting for the last 3 months waiting for the Melrose SDK to deploy to Intel App Up and now I can't even submit my application.
    Thanks.

The current version of Melrose supports Flex 3.5 SDK for AIR applications running on AIR 1.5.3 runtime or higher. You can use Adobe Flex Builder 3 with Flex 3.5 SDK or Adobe Flash Builder 4 with Flex 3.5 SDK.
Support for Flex 4.1 SDK for AIR applications running on AIR 2.0 runtime should be available within a few weeks. Please note that we will not be able to support Flex 4.0 SDK because of certain technical challenges.

  • Do I need flash builder 4 to work with the flex sdk?

Is it necessary to use flash builder 4 to work with the flex sdk?
Can you build apps just using the open source flex sdk. If so are there tutorials and books on how to do so?
Thanks in advance for your help.

No, you don't need Flash Builder to use the Flex SDK. If you download the SDK and unzip it, you'll find a 'bin' directory that has the mxmlc compiler in it. You can compile Actionscript or MXML files using that.
    ./mxmlc MyFlexApp.mxml
If you are building an AIR application, you will use amxmlc
    ./amxmlc MyAIRFlexApp.mxml
Then, launch your AIR application using adl
    ./adl.exe MyAIRFlexApp-app.xml
    Hope this helps,
    Joan

  • Using Eclipse project definitions to build the Flex SDK

It would be great if someone from Adobe could post on the recommended usage of the Eclipse project definitions in the development/eclipse/ subdirectory of the 3.0.x trunk distribution. I would like to debug some compiler modifications that I am working on.
I saw Peter Farland demo this setup at 360Flex, but was unable to capture all the details of the Eclipse configuration that he discussed in his talk.
    thanks!

If you go to the framework project’s properties, there is a section called Flex Library Compiler, you want to use a specific flex sdk (add a new sdk which points to the trunk, and use that) — you are probably building /against/ the wrong sdk, right code, wrong compiler.

Try changing the sdk for the framework lib project to trunk (you'll need to add a new flex sdk, name it whatever you want) -- it's in the project properties. It's using the wrong compiler.

    <http://3.3.2.>
http://3.3.2.>  I checked out the whole SDK trunk and can build the main ant task with no errors. I used the instructions mentioned above to create a Flex framework library project and thats where the error comes in. (I had tried to manually build a framework project a few times and it was a nightmare.) I would probably prefer to work on the 3.0.x branch/tag as I hope to submit a patch or two but saw Joe mention that the project defs only existed in the trunk.
Searching Google for the oem error turns up lots of links about projects that had assets deleted and the build got confused but following the instructions on how to fix proved unsuccessful.

I always forget what that error means when it comes up -- though it's been ages since I've seen it last, literally.
Joe: Since you mention Java 1.5, I'm guessing the errors are in the asdoc package? Those should be turned off (read: turned into a warning) -- Eclipse is a little too persnickety about that particular error. There's a preference for this in the Java section under warnings and errors. It's turned off in the trunk dev projects. Otherwise, you should be able to run the compiler directly with no problems (okay, one more caveat: there's a class loader issue with the OEM, fixed in trunk if you look for my Java 1.5 checkin).
Ben: What is your setup? What are you building (Ryan mentions trunk, Joe mentions 30x), which Eclipse, which dev projects, did you build the sdk from the commandline first, etc.?
    Cheers,
