  • Flex Builder Slow Launch

    Hi,
I have run into a problem where after a while an application
takes several minutes to launch using
    Flex Builder 2.0.1 for Mac.
This did happen with the Beta too.
Don't know if I can isolate the exact conditions but it is
around the same time when I was trying to make
a centered full screen application by embedding it into
    another.
Anyone else run into the problem of slow launching with Flex
    Builder?
    Joc

I've just started using Flex Builder 2.0.1 for mac and have
found the same problem. Just to clarify, I'm talking about the time
for an mxml application to launch from within FB2, not the
    launching of FB2 itself.
I've just move from windows and copied my project across from
my Windows FB2 installation which launched within a few seconds.
The same project on the mac version takes more than a minute..
Is there a mechanism to submit a formal bug report?
    Thanks,
    Peter

  • What is MethodClosure? Is this bad to have a lot of calls to it?

    Hi,
The Flex profiler seems like a very powerful tool but I have the feeling I'm pretty deep into the core technical stuff now (I'm no hardcore programmer I have no background in C , ASP or anything of that) in order to optimize a big project I worked on. The performance profile attached here shows the functions because being called for logging into a CMS and displaying (+ filling) a menu and moduleChooser (or dashboard) with contents loaded from AMFPHP. I see a lot of calls to methodclosure but based on google all I know is that this is an object holding references to functions or something? What could bethe bottleneck here? Also I notice that the initialize methods take up a lot of time, is this because there are too many children or is it related to styles? Can anyone clarify this? I can't find so much on the actual explanations of these performance profiles on the net. If anyone could help me understand them better that would be great because at my workplace they always say Flex is slow but I think it has a lot to do with big projects being handled inefficiently and doing a lot of work at the same time.

    > I believe that a MethodClosure represents a reference to a method in a class.
After quite a bit of googling, this is the best/only explanation I've found for MethodClosure.
But it says "I believe..." which doesn't inspire great confidence.      Can someone from Adobe confirm that this is correct?

  • Flex 4.5.1 iOS project very slow

    Hi,
A few things. I read that 4.5.1 Flex Mobile automatically used AIR 2.7  .  I have not done any overlaying b/c of this but my app on the device is slow.
When I click a list item or Back button, it takes like 2 seconds to respond.  Also, there is a long black screen at the start of the app before it hits the splash image.
Another note, I've been publishing a release using ad hoc.  Not sure if that matters for device performance.
    Thanks for any help!

The first or second line of your "app_name.xml" should contains the AIR version number. Is it 2.7?

  • Slow Performance dragging under Flex 10.1?

Since upgrading to Flex 10.1 for testing several months ago, we've noticed our app has a few issues with dragging and general slowness that weren't present under 10.0
Specifically, it seems like dragged items "catch up" to the current mouse position by travelling the whole path of the mouse in sequence, if any CPU is used during the drag (for example to verify drag targets via the client-side data model).
It's definitely tied to CPU usage - the higher the CPU, the less responsive the app is to mouse input, and the more it appears to step through it sequentially as it catches up. I don't have a problem necessarily with the VM getting slower as CPU increases (that's expected) - but I do have a problem with the lag in user input and the change in how it appears to be handled in 10.1.
First question, has anyone else experienced similar issues? How have you dealt with them?
Second, is there some way to change the rendering or input behavior back to how 10.0 performed under load?
We'd really love to be able to recommend all our users use the latest flash version without needing to worry about it performing differently, so would love to get this figured out. Any help or recommendations would be much appreciated.

  • Slow data communication (LCDS 3.1) after upgrading to Flex SDK 4.1

I wonder if anybody experienced something like that.
It's quite a big project, currently running with Flex SDK 3.5.
After converting to SDK 4.1 and making all required adjustment the UI runs as good as before, with one problem - creation of new complex UI components takes much longer (3-5 times). Creation of some components involves a number of server calls, which according to Network Monitor do run much longer (e.g. 13 seconds instead of 4).
    I'm considering 2 possibilities:
    1. Something in UI is holding all threads, preventing service calls from finishing promptly, and making impression of slow network.
    2. Server communication somehow got much slower. Against that the fact is because server calls are asynchronous they shouldn't prevent UI from drawing at least empty components.
Server code is the same for old and new UI, it runs Spring, Hibernate, Jetty (in dev mock) or Tomcat (on dev server), LCDS 3.1.
I've tried several LCDS 3.1 libraries with and without patches, SDK3 and SDK4 specific, with the same result.
    Flash Player 10.1.xx debug.
    Any idea?
    Thanks, Andrei.

It turned out that delays where caused by slow instantiation of visual components.
    See http://forums.adobe.com/thread/786472?tstart=0
Presumably Network Monitor registers facts that server communication is initiated (queued?), but doesn't say when Flash Player frees resources to make actual calls (switch to the second Frame?). Or something like that.

  • Flex 2 15 - Slow Boot

Turnng on after "shut down" takes nearly 5 seconds but when i use the "restart" not only that the Restarting circle is turning for lilke 20 seconds before reboot its also takes 40 seconds to reboot to log in screen?. I tried finding solution on interrnet to speed up the boot time but nothing helped i have almost every software turnd off on startup. I tried switching "fast startup" on and off but there is no diference. I used onekeyrecovery for a old image for clean win8.1 because rebooting took almost 2 minitus. After the recovery the boot time was ok, then sudenly an update apeared and again my boot time was slow is there any solution to make booting time less frustrating? Thanks

Not sure if this helps for others, but at least this solved my problem.
    1. Set router to use wireless N-only (My router is ASUS RT-N12D1). My connection drops less frequently with this.

  • Flex or AIR application is slowed down after continuous usage.

    Hello,
I am facing two issues one each in Flex application and AIR application.
    1. First in Flex application.
I have developed an Flex application in Flex 4.0 and is being used by around 10 to 15 users simultaneously.
Now the problem is that when all the users start use of the application in the morning, it is running perfectly. But after usage of 3 or 4 hours, or let's say after lunch its speed is gettling slow. And due to low speed, application behaves abnormally. For example, I am calling multiple php files one by one through http service in one of the screens. And those php calls are dependent on each other. So due to low speed step 2 php call is over before the step 1 php call. And due to that application can't set the screen as per its normal behaviout.
And this problem stays even after user clears the browser cache.
So I am assuming that even after clearing browser cache flash player is not removing all the cache or something is still there on the server which is causing slow speed of the application. Because when next day users come to office and use the application they don't face such issues. Such issues are coming only after continuous usage of it.
So please help me in solving this issue ASAP. Because our client is getting angry over this issue.
    2. AIR Application issue
I have developed an AIR application which is using socket connection to use different designer softwares like In Design, Illustrator etc.
Now sometimes happens that due to low speed of machine or internet my socket connection didn't get time to connect to some design softwares. So I have put a code that checks if the connection is lost then it reconnects it. But this connection lost problem starts coming after heavy usage of the application.
And the second problem is regarding drag and drop. When I do continuous drag and drop of images of around 70 to 80 images, I get memory over error from the machine stating that please close the application as there is no memory available now.
So please suggest a solution for this ASAP as our client will need to do lots of drag and drop operations and lots of socket connection to design software during the day.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Jigar Oza

Here is the screen shot of my AIR application.
When I do continuous drag and drop operation the highlighted VO or object instances are increased. These instances are increased and my system memory is used because of that. So how can I remove the instances of those objects which are used repeatedly?

  • Eclipse/Flex Builder Getting Slower

As my project has grown it has become increasingly very slow
to even move around in the editor. Sometimes it takes 5-10 seconds
just to move the mouse cursor from one line of code to another.
I am running it on a pretty beefy machine.
When this happens I usually notice that javaw is eating up a
    ton of cpu cycles.
Anyone else dealing with this or have any ideas?

Do you notice the slow down for all projects or for a
    specific project?
You can try bumping up the -Xmx512m to -Xmx768m or -Xmx1024m
    in FlexBuilder.ini file.
This file is located under Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder
    3\
Also if your project has grown very large, it may help to
break it into smaller libraries and project.
Also if you are not using Flex Builder 3, you should consider
using it (there are some performance improvements in flex builder
    3)

  • Slow loading of Flex iviews

I have been using NW04 for running imported models (par-files) created in a separate NW04s development system (set up just for developing VC-apps.). These have loaded nicely and at an acceptable speed. Now we are upgrading our complete portal environment and thereby running the models from their deployed PCD-locations (actually new iviews with delta links to deployed iviews).
Now the new environment are loading all VC-generated iview MUCH slower than the old environment. Other portal components seem to load about the same, but they too are slowed down by the flex iviews while they are downloading, initializing and querying their data. Pages without VC generated content are not affected.
All content on the pages showing the iviews are identical from old to upgraded portal and all iviews have been deployed as Flex1.
    Any ideas??

Actually I ended up deselecting the "Enable styling of Flex controls in portal themes" under Options->Compiler. I remember that this helped quite a bit. Now that we have upgraded to sps 18 I am trying to apply this again as it's a useful feature. In my development system it seems load nicely also with this option selected.

  • Flex slow start when setting wmode

I have a drawing pad application in flex.
if I don't set any wmode, the application starts up, and the drawing is very smooth from the first "pen down".
If I set any wmode (opaque or transparent), the first "pen down" will be very very laggy, and the following drawing will be smooth.
I can also make it smooth by clicking anywhere on my application (button, empty space) first, then do my drawing after that.
Any one have an idea what's causing this initial "load"?
    Thanks

  • Flex and zend , php services - soooo slow. any ideas?

    Hey Folks,
I have a flex application that uses PHP services with the Zend framework.
When I run it locally, the speed is great. My largest query returns data to my datagrid in 2-3 seconds.
When I do run it locally, it is pulling from the production database.
When I move the project to my dedicated server, the same query takes a painful 30 seconds.
When I run the SQL query directly in MYSQL, it is back to around 2 seconds.  So the problem is not the query itself.
So, any ideas why the results would take so much longer in my production environment? I purposely purchased dedicated server hosting because I thought it might of been server load.  That didn't help.  The queries are not complex at all. The most they return is under 200 rows.
In summary: Why would my results set populate so much quicker on my development computer than on the production server?
    Using:
    Flash builder 4
    mysql
    php
    zendframweork
    Thank you for any assitance.
    -greg

Your question seems to be outside of the scope of this forum.  But as someone who uses Zend_AMF and PHP for a backend I'll take a whack.  Have you analyzed your query, you may discover some inefficiencies there ?  This could be a problem if you have many joins, not leading you "WHERE" statement off with the most selective property and so on and so on try basic db optimizations if you haven't already.  Are you using an ORM of any kind ?  These can add to the time it takes to get results back, especially if you have lazy loading enabled instead of bringing back associated objects with your query and not on the fly.  The next step I would check would be for any type of serialization issues that might arise if you are doing so.  Even though a database usually isn't considered "large" until it has 10's of millions of rows, joins as I have verified the hardway, when done incorrectly without any type of keys or indexing can be particularly painful.

  • Why is flex time being so slow?

    I'm editing a group of 16 drum tracks for a 12min song.
It's quite full on but flex time has been handling it well up until the last 2 or 3 minutes of the song.
Now every time I place a flex marker, I literally have to wait over 30secs for Logic to load the marker.
My progress has completely dropped and I'm working to a deadline and need help!
Anyone know what the problem is?
I've got about 80GB HD space and no other programmes running.
    Cheers

OK, you didn't mention that. Are you monitoring your RAM somehow? You should! How much RAM do you have anyway? And are you running Logic in 32 or 64 bit mode?
