FLV in FLA...
Hi,
If someone provides me the FLV with the support SWF files and HTML page (so that the movie is embeded on the HTML page with the skin controls)...and I need to rename the movie from what they sent it as...
will I also need the native FLA?
Do I simply rename the HTML page to the desired link name for brand consistency on my website, will that solve the problem without needing the FLA?
Thank you.
If the movie is embedded in the SWF then you can't simply send a FlashVar to the SWF to load another movie.
Embedding a FLV inside the timeline of a flash movie is typically not a good idea. You should embed a FLVPlayback component on the stage. Then you can use the component inspector window to set the skin for the playback functionality. The source of the FLVPlayback should be passed into flash via the above mentioned method, FlashVars. Then you can set the name of the external video FLV the play.
If you have been given back a bunch of videos embedded in different SWF files then renaming the HTML page to something else is fine. Just make sure the embed code is pointing to the correct SWF to play with the correct embedded FLV. The names of the SWF or the HTML file can be changed at any time as long as the HTML file points to the correct SWF (and adjusts for any width/height differences).

Savinf flash video as flv not fla?
im trying to save my flash video as a flv but when saving the
document i only get offered to save the file as a fla? can somone
please tell me why. dreamweaver wont let me insert a video if it is
not saved as aflvNo... if you want to maintain your vectors and your
actionscript, you need to export to .swf. FLV is a video format,
and nothing more. You can embed metadata in an flv that an .swf can
use in it's actionscript, but the flv alone can't do it.
Now, if you just want to turn a flash animation into an flv,
export the .fla to avi, and then transcode the avi to flv. -
Importing FLV into FLA - No sound...
I'm attempting to embed a 10 second FLV video clip (created
in Final Cut Pro) into my FLA. After matching the frame rate
(30FPS) the video plays back fine, however, there is no sound. I'm
relatively new to Flash, so any suggestions would be appreciated.
ThanksI think this may be a compatibility issue... try exporting
the video as an AVI file. -
Insert FLV into fla with flv on a streaming server
I am stuck i need to insert an fla which is on a steaming

then do i need to add code or??? can anyone please helpuse the flvplayback component. in the properties panel you
can choose the skin (with the controls you want) and the path to
your flv. -
Is there ever a time you would want/need to import a FLV into
Flash over
some other video format?
Thanks.I think this may be a compatibility issue... try exporting
the video as an AVI file. -
I have many mov files that I want to convert to Flash movies.

should still work, right? the swf just calls up the flv and fla,
right? -
Does the FPS in the .fla document effect the FPS in an imported .flv?
I think this may be related to another post I have, but I'm
not sure?
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=194&threadid=1265662&CF ID=45109516&CFTOKEN=f5a4ce0585fae4f3-66834EE8-E724-5FA7-C13B0CE0CCCB7A67&jsessionid=48305c 133dfd755d2f3b
Does the FPS in the .fla document effect the FPS in an
imported .flv? I notice the default FPS in a .fla is 12, but i
think most of my imported .flv are about 30 fps, will this effect
anything or does the flv overwrite the fla?
Thanks! The FLV will play slow or fast if the rate is not the same as
the fla file. If you import the file but select the progressive
streaming method, the frames rates are separate for the flv and fla
and don't effect each other. That is the method you want to choose
most of the time, and it doesn't require a special server. -
Hi,
most of my files are .flv, but to use wallaby I need .fla, and to convert flv to fla is not very easy, flash CS5 can't read .flv, can you incluse the files .flv in wallaby?FLV files are video files, not Flash artwork/animation files.
Wallaby's purpose is to allow the reuse of Flash graphics and animations in HTML5, not the transcoding of video.
If you have a video file (FLV or F4V) could can convert it to H.264 video with Adobe Media Encoder (part of Creative Suite). You can then create a simple HTML page with an HTML5 video element pointing to the H.264 video file.
Of course, not ever HTML5 browser supports H.264 as there is a lot of churn in the HTML5 video space at the moment. Look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTML5_video to get more information about the HTML5 video tag and what browsers support what formats.
If you need to go to OggTheora or VP8/WebM you should be able to find other tools to convert H.264 to those formats. -
Saludos

CANT PREVIEW FLASH MOVIE???
i created a simple flash movie...but when i tried to plug it
into my web page it would not allow me to preview it in the
browser....PLEASE NOTE: i already set my browser to "ROSETTA" but
still no luck..what is the problem... also i when i saved the file
i was sure to keep it all lower case letters and no spaces.....im
sure im looking over something minor..but could someone HELP PLEASE
thanksI think I have just found the answer to my question. In case anyone else has this issue, I wanted to re-post with the answer. I work from an external networked drive. I have no idea why I never tried to test locally, I just always work off of that drive. Anyway, when I moved my files (the flv and fla files) to my desktop, everything works perfectly. Just a note, I did add my external drives in the security settings of the flash player but that obviously did not work.

Hi, I have a 162 mb avi file I'm trying to convert to a swf
file using Flash Professional 8 to play on the internet. I'm really
lost on how to do this. I've tried converting it with the flash
encoder to a flv or fla file and then exporting it as a swf movie
but allI end up with is a 34kb file that does nothing when I try to
open it with the flash player....grrrrrrrrrr...lol
I've been to the help file serveral times but just don't seem
to be able to find anything on it.
Can anyone help me with this?
TIA

file - import - import video
and while you go through the import wizard, select the option
to include
the file into your timeline. Save it as Fla, publish, and you
get SWF with
video inside.

.avi faulty/ corrupted file
I have found that some of the .avi files that at one time in there life worked fine, activate Quicktime and play the video, when they were selected by double clicking on them no longer work, nor are they recognized as iPhoto videos by iMovie. Now when double clicked they will call on Quicktime and it will start up but then nothing happens. This has happened to old and new .avi files and this has happened in both iPhoto'08 and '09. Is there any way to repair .avi files? I don't have the original files.

So I am working on an interactive piece that requires the use of pre rendered 3D animation clips with transparency. what I was curious about is... Would it be better to export the video as a series of PNGs (the longest is about 600 frames long) and import those into my movie clip or should I export the video as an FLV that is close to 400 Mb in size? Or am I completely missing a a better way to get this pre-rendered animation into my piece as a clickable movie cllip with transparency? Thanks.
You will have to export flv with alpha channel (http://www.leebrimelow.com/?p=59). Then you should import the flv into *.fla (as MovieClip import option). The interactivity is the tricky part, though. Transparent video, as well as transparent PNGs is a big rectangle and even the transparent part of it clicks. You can create hitAreas - transparent vector fill. Inside the MovieClip with the video, draw any vector shape with transparent fill. Convert it to MovieClip and set it as the video MovieClip's hitArea, or just add click listeners to it.

I have been reading through the posts and searching the net to see if there is an answer to this question. I would like to create a custom skin to be used instead of the clearSkin.swf player and its iterations available stock with Captivate 4. How to I locate the FLV skin FLA's? Or if I need to do it in flash could someone point me in the right direction please.
Thanks,
AlexThe playback FLAs are named the same as the compiled SWFs, so a simple search of your Captivate folder would reveal pretty quick, I think!
That said, likely here:
.\Adobe Captivate 4\Templates\PlaybackFLA

okay so I made a video gallery in flash and imported it into dreamweaver to use on a certain page of my site. When I preview it in the browser from dreamweaver, everything works fine. After I uploaded it to my server and go to my page. The videos won't load, just get the loading bar. What happened? The .swf file, videos (.flv), and .fla are all in a folder called flvs. I want the videos to play when you go to the multimedia page on my site (multimedia.html). The multmedia.html page is in a folder called portfolio. I tried putting the flvs folder in the portfolio folder. (got the update adobe screen, did that, still didn't work) When I moved it back to the main root folder, the page looked right but videos still wouldn't play. I even tried taking all the files out the flvs folder & putting them directly in the root folder (didn't work). Here's the page: http://www.jandersondesigns.com/portfolio/multimedia.html Any suggestions?
Is your host server configured correctly to serve up FLVs? Make sure the correct MIME type is set up. Otherwise your server may be trying to serve it as HTML/Text!
