FMS edge segfault

Just curious does anyone know if there is a relation between FMS edge crashing due to error below in the sample output. Its kind of strange all of a sudden I lose an application and the server starts acting strange. Cannot add new applications and I have to restart.
I removed the cdrom module to see if that is what is causing FMS to crash with this segfault.
Using FMS 4.5.0
Sample dmesg output:

hey one541_,
i believe for you to be gettiing .proxy files you must be having disk caching enabled. These are created to handle process mutex.  These files get removed as soon as fms shuts down. If these are not getting deleted maybe you are not shutting the edge server (in the edge origin configuration) down properly or you are not shutting down at all.

  • FMS edge hybird mode

    I need help to setup FMS edge can stream video from a FMS-core (or from other FMS-edge). configuration diagram:
    FMLE ==> FMS-core ==> FMS-edge ==> users.
    on FMS-edge i have a application on
    C:\AMS\applications\myapp
    if i did not change anything in Vhost.xml file (path: C:\AMS\conf\_defaultRoot_\_defaultVHost_\Vhost.xml). The myapp application is ok, but can not see the video stream rtmp://FMS-edge/live/livestream.
    if i change Vhost file:
    <Proxy>
                        <Mode>remote</Mode>
    <RouteTable protocol="">
                                  <RouteEntry>FMS-edge:1935;FMS-core:1935</RouteEntry>
    Then video stream is ok but application don't.
    In this case, setup FMS-edge hybird mode. 1 Vhost setup as local mode to serve myapp application, and 1 Vhost setup as remote mode to serve streamming video from FMS-core, right?

  • FMS edge server tmp files issue

    I have a few edge servers connecting to an origin server and over time the FMS's tmp directory in the edge server is filled with .proxy files like
    MTA0MDAxMDE2Ng=.proxy
    MTA0MDAxMjg1MQ=.proxy
    MTA0MDU2MzAyOA=.proxy
    MTA0MDYzNDU2MA=.proxy
    MTA0MTE4MjgyNw=.proxy
    MTA0MTM3OTcwNg=.proxy
    MTA0MTM4NjIzNQ=.proxy
    MTA0MTMzNzE2Nw=.proxy
    MTA0MTYxNjUyNQ=.proxy
    Over time this becomes millions of files, which then considerably slows down the system and the performance of FMS. I have to restart FMS and delete all the files in the tmp directory regularly and this makes my cluster very difficult to manage.
    Can anyone help me on how to remove all these files automatically? Or if there is any config that I am missing which might cause this issue?

    You can try changing the health check timeout.
    # Health Check Interval: Specify the interval (in seconds) between Node Manager health state queries to the Managed Server. Enter a value between 1 and 2147483647 seconds (default is 180 seconds).
    # Health Check Timeout: Enter the number of seconds that Node Manager will await a response to a health state query. If the timeout is reached, Node Manager assumes the Managed Server is "failed", and kills the process. Enter a value between 1 and 2147483647 seconds (default is 60 seconds).

  • FMS Origin-Only Clustering.

    Hi,
          I was successfully able to setup FMS edge-origin cluster but Origin-only clustering is the one we wanted for our live applications.
    Can someone please provide any material / pointer about setting up Multiple Origin clustering. The only place I found was 'Large Scale Deployment with FMIS'.
        I guess for Origin Only Clustering, we need to have our own caching system. Can someone what does get cached in a Live AV Chat? How do I propagate it to other Origins?
       What kind of plugins would I need for cache managing? What should the plugin do ?
       In the attached Origin Only Architecture,  what does the Primary Origin do and Secondary Origin do ?   I thought Origin is the place where the application is actually running and Edges do proxy. Is it the same here in Origin-only clustering also?
       Are there any tools which can measure the lag in AV ? (like performance measuring tools or load testing tools for FMS).
       What kind of software Load Balancer can we use for FMS clustering? ( like Nginx, Zeus or something ?) ?
       Kindly help on this FMS Origin-only clustering.
    Thanks
    Karthik.

    Hi,
         Thanks for responding,

    User1                User2                     User3           .....
    I am using FMIS 4. Our application is Live AV chat.
    For setting up the Origin-Only cluster should we write our our c++ plugin to implement the caching system?? How do I start ?
    Can you please explain a small workflow of the  Origin-Only Clustering please like how does clustering happen and how failovers work and how to use Primary and Secondary Origins and  how Edges, Intermediate nodes work please ?

  • FMS Core failure

    Hi,
    I'm suddenly getting loads of "Faulting module FMSCore.exe"
    errors/warnings filling up my App event log. I hope its not
    because, but I'm not ruling it out, of the Security update KB958644
    which was applied the day before.
    Connect and Server Info.
    The Connect version is 6 with SP3, its a basic install (not
    an Edge) with the DB/content on the local disk, the server is a
    fairly decent Dell PowerEdge 1950 (running Win2k3 Enterprise SP2),
    I haven't yet patched it for the Flash Player 10 debacle but aim to
    do it soon.
    The Application error details are:
    Category: (100)
    Event ID: 1000
    Faulting application FMSCore.exe, version 2.0.2.61, faulting
    module FMSCore.exe, version 2.0.2.61, fault address 0x001ca726.
    Then I get a whole host of these Warning messages in the App

    Has anyone seen anything similar happen?
    I don't know much about Flash Media Server so any insight
    would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hi Lauren,
    Actually, when I finally got round to applying the Flash
    Player 10 patch, when the service wasn't busy, all these errors
    suddenly stopped!
    Sorry, I should have closed the topic but thanks for
    replying.
    Thanks again,

    Hi
    Can you please provide us some little more environment information on this issue, like:
      - what were you trying to do when you saw this issue, if there was a live telecast or if that was a simple vod workflow?
    - What publisher application were you using to send livestream to FMS?
    -  were you also doing some kind of recording while doing live streaming??
    - In case of live streaming what audio/video encoding and bitrates was there in use?
    - how many number of connections were there?
    - What amount of cpu and mem usage was there (when you say very high cpu usage).. you can see it using task manager
    It will help if you can also share your fms logs (inside fms_install_folder/logs) so that we can see if something abnormal was going on there..

    Hi,
    I had that same problem today!
    I tried then to update my FMS to v3.5.3. Which did not help
    After a while I recognized, that the problem was on client-side. Inside a module I did a SharedObject.getRemote() with an invalid NetConnection (null, actually).When I executed it, i got an error message which was something like "Cannot create SharedObject" and at the same time, my server crashed with the above mentionned message written to the log.
    However, this only happened when I re-loaded the module. (so, first a [ModuleLoader-instance].load(), then unload() and then load() again, and - voilà - I hab my error).
    Somehow my previously used SharedObject got re-used and made everything crash.
    Hope this is helpful to someone.
    Bye

  • Dynamic Streaming - not working as expected

    I've been experimenting with Dynamic Streaming while in the process of writing a tutorial. The documentation is quite clear on a few points:
    The keyframe interval in the various encodings should be short
    The bufferlength should be at least 2x the keyframe interval
    The player should sense a bandwidth change, by default, within the 4-second sampling interval and call for a switch. Then, the switch could take as long as 2x the keyframe interval after that.
    What I'm finding is wildly different behavior than this.  It takes anywhere from 10-15 seconds for the player to notice the change and call for a switch, then another 20-40 seconds for the switch to happen. When switching up to a higher bitrate stream, this just means the user gets low bitrate video for longer than they ought to. But when switching down due to falling bandwidth, the buffer runs out and the user stares at the rebuffering sign for a lengthy time - long enough to give up on watching the video, for sure.
    I've encoded an H.264 MP4 file at 64, 384, and 768 kbps, at 30fps and an "every 60 frames" keyframe interval.  I've streamed it rtmp via two different CDNs that use FMS 3.5, into two different Flash video players (JW Player and Flowplayer). I've restricted my bandwidth on Windows XP with Netlimiter 2.0; and on the Mac with 'ipfw'. I've set bufferlength between 4 and 10 seconds.
    I've tested switching up and switching down. For up, I start with a 200kbps bandwidth limit. The video starts OK with the correct stream, then at 5 seconds I open up the bandwidth to unrestricted. For testing down, I do the opposite: start at unrestricted and then at 00:05 restrict to 200kbps.
    My test page, with both players and sample code is at http://www.learningapi.com/streamingmedia-articles/dynamic-streaming-in-flash-bitrate-swit ching/  I also have a couple of screen recordings there showing the behavior of the whole process, both switching up and switching down.
    I thought I've done everything right here - paid attention to every documented detail, but it works rather poorly. Can someone explain whether this is expected behavior, if the players have implemented dynamic switching poorly, or if I'm doing something wrong?
    Thanks,
    Larry

    Thank you so much for your help!  To answer your questions:
    In regard to switching up case - which is the stream that you start out on?
    I'm starting with the bandwidth throttled to 200kbps, so the stream chosen is 64kbps. I've tried both VP6 and H.264 files, encoded at 64, 384, 768kbps.
    Is RTMPT involved in this case or no tunnelling?
    There is no tunneling, at least there shouldn't be. I did try a test explicitly calling for rtmpt. I get an error from the Flowplayer's bwcheck when I do this. "no live hosts to connect to"
    Is FMS Edge/Origin streaming involved?
    I don't know. Most of the testing I've done with Cloudfront, although I've tried Limelight as well and the results are identical.
    Are you seeing the QoS bandwidth measures yourself, and if so are they adjusting slowly or suddenly after a period of time being incorrect?
    JW Player does show the detected bandwidth updating every few seconds. There's a good 10 second delay (or more) before the value starts to change, and then it will show the bandwidth value gradually shifting from the old value to the new - takes about 15-30 seconds to ramp down from the unrestricted bandwith (~ 8-12Mbps) to 200kbps.  Occasionally, the bwcheck number simply does not change, as if the player is not checking at all.  I don't know if that's because the reading is averaged, or if that's really what it thinks it's measuring. But by the time it's reading about 200kbps, the stream has already been buffering for 10 seconds or more.  If I increase the bufferlength to 25 seconds or more, it just delays the point where the stream will start buffering. It's inevitable that there's always a break in playback when I restrict to 200kbps while streaming.
    For Flowplayer, I can't get its bwcheck numbers as easily. Looking at the logs, it almost appears that it's not checking (or not getting a response) very often. What's interesting is that the behavior - the actual outcome for streaming - is pretty much exactly like JW Playe - which is what makes me wonder if this is a platform issue.
    Thanks,
    Larry

  • Main.asc server side script not working

    Here the simple script i put at server seem like is not working also enclosed screenshot for the adminconsole
    my server side file main.asc save at /opt/adobe/fms/application/playtechmnflive/
    my doing FMS edge server.
    application.allowDebug= true;
    application.onAppStart = function(){
            this.eventTime = (new Date().valueOf() + 10000);
            this.timer_int = setInterval(checkForEvent, 1000, this);
    function checkForEvent(app){
            var now = new Date().valueOf();
            if(now > app.eventTime) {
                    trace("something");
            }else{

    The script is fine (at least i assume u want the timer working with no errors). The thing is that u can't put any code nor apps on the edge node. Put it on the origin and hook up your edge to that origin.

  • Some Questions. Server config, bitrates, bandwidth, connections

    Hi. My company are trying out the FMS to establish if we will use it in the future or if we should use a cloudhost. Now I was the person put in charge of this operation(a .NET developer). So please excuse my simple questions and my lack of knowledge when it comes to flash media. I figure who better to ask then the pros at adobe that made the product. This might be a long post. I promise all help and tips I can get is highly appricaited
    Setup: Amd Quad Core 2.20, RAM 1gb, windows server 2008, connections 8/4 dsl
    Question one.
    My memory(%) usage are on steady on about 80%, what does that mean, to little RAM or?
    Question two.
    Is there any Specific Server Configurations I could do to the server to make it perform better?
    Question three.
    What specifics should I convert the FLV files into. Are there any "Default or general" so to speak? Frames, Bitrate, Picture ratio ect.. this is where I have no idea.
    Question four.
    We are maybe gone have about a 1k users on this maximum. How much bandwidth does that demand?
    Question five.
    I have installed the FMS on my server machine. I have not done any configurations to the FMS what so ever. Now I have uploaded a test site(html) with the movie trailer from iron man 2, it is a flv downloaded from youtube. file is about 11mb.. when I run it on one 1 browser window it play good, but then i open up like 7 windows and run the clip at the same time it starts to freeze and load a lot. Is is not supose to handle more then 6 connections? I thought maybe my compter was the problem but I got a pretty good setup with 10/10 fiber, wich should be enof to stream 6 clips right?
    What could this possibly be that my server can not handle more connections?

    Hi Dejan-S,
    You mentioned that your company is trying out FMS to see if it fits your usecase. So I would broadly like to know what is your usage like.Also which version of FMS have you downloaded?
    From your question 3 I can make an assumption that your want to make available you media files for some one to view them by streaming them using FMS. On this assumption I will attempt to answer your questions:
    1. My memory(%) usage are on steady on about 80%, what does that mean, to little RAM or?
    Yes a higher RAM would definitely help, we recommend 2GB at the minimum. Also you could tune your server by using the SERVER.FLVCACHE_MAXSIZE of fms.ini file at FMS Root directory/conf. You could set it to a higher value provided you have sufficient RAM so FMS would use this space for caching the streaming content and serve your video on demand usage better.Typically you could try setting the SERVER.FLVCACHE_MAXSIZE to 1/4th of your server's RAM size.
    You might have taken a look at http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediainteractive/systemreqs/
    2. Is there any Specific Server Configurations I could do to the server to make it perform better?
    Are you using the vod application at FMS Root directory/applications for streaming? If not you could try using that app and also take a look at the configurations made in the Application.xml(located in vod directory) there which could act as a guideline for fine tuning your server.
    The section name "Tuning server performance" in the flashmediaserver_3.5_tech_overview.pdf at FMS Root directory/documentation might also give you some insight into this area.
    3. What specifics should I convert the FLV files into. Are there any "Default or general" so to speak? Frames, Bitrate, Picture ratio ect.. this is where I have no idea.
    A lot of that would depend on your final deployment(the hardware resources that you are allocating) and if it will be able to handle the higher bitrate files. The frames and picture ratio too is your choice on how  much crispness you want to bring to your video files.
    Also wanted to let you know FMS supports MP4 format as well which means you could use H.264 and HE-AAC codecs in your media files.
    4. We are maybe gone have about a 1k users on this maximum. How much bandwidth does that demand?
    It would depend on factors like how high a bitrate video files are you streaming and if all the all the 1000 users are connected to FMS server and streaming at the same time. It would be tough to give an estimate just based on number of users.
    I think it's your client machine which is unable to handle so many browsers playing video at the same time.So I guess you could try opening the browsers on different client machine and see that you are able to get the ideal experience.
    Also if your use case is video on demand, then you could also make use of the Edge-Origin deployment of FMS where in you make use of the FMS edge server's capability to cache streaming content and serve users seeking the same content instead of fetching it from the FMS origin server all over again.
    You could take a look at the flashmediaserver_3.5_tech_overview.pdf at FMS Root directory/documentation and look for  "Deploying Edge Servers" to get more idea.
    I hope this helps.
    Thanks

  • Behaviour of client.getStats() with edge-orgin fms is anomalous

    Hi,
    In first case my application's bandwidth monitor is working fine with NON-edge origin configuration of fms. I see correct values in up and down bytes that are sent and received between clients.
    For an edge-origin configuration these values are not coming as they should.
    Example:
    The first client connection to the edge looks like working normally his sent and received bytes are shown fine, but for the second and subsequent connections the  bytes of data received by client is 0 and does not change although data "is" received by the client.
    Also, suppose client A sends some data to server, so his up data bytes should be shown to him only. But in edge origin configuration client A's up data bytes "value" is shown  to all other connected clients as "their" up data bytes with their down bytes values as 0...
    Where could be the problem, what should i check? any xml settings missing?
    Please help.
    I am checking this on fms 3.5.3 developer edition as orgin server and 3.5.7 developer edition as edge server.
    Regards,

  • Urgent .. FMS origin & edge licence needed

    we've developed some Flash video applications that will have
    1000
    (avg.) to 5000 (at peak time) connections for a very large
    scaled
    project in Turkey. We have all tested our applications with
    Developer
    Edition and when we made sure that everything is ok, we
    decided to
    start the project. I have checked this adobe website for
    contact about
    FMS licences. I could not found any office or reseller number
    in
    turkiye. so i tried the numbers from the beginning. all of
    the
    contacts that i ve talked took my name my office number my
    company
    name etc. but again none of them helped me about the
    situation. they
    all redirected me to other support numbers. (both in US,UK
    and
    Amsterdam) i wasted 2 weeks (both day and night because of
    the time
    zone issues). of course none of the contacts helped me about
    my
    questions. most of them were unaware of Origin Edge licences.
    After
    calling about 100 contacts (which is also not quite cheap if
    you are
    calling abroad) they told me that maybe "insight" could help
    me. Then
    i wasted another 2 days with insight contacts then they told
    me that
    they are not allowed to sell products because of their tax
    issues.
    Anyway i have found an adobe distributor in istanbul by
    google search
    (also none of US or UK adobe offices had knew any contact in
    Turkey).
    They also send me to a reseller. And i have wasted another
    week with
    them. What they told about FMS Origin&Edge licences was
    in conflict
    with the ones that had told me by a US department. (And also
    a
    department told me that Edge and Origin licences are
    different. Edge
    is for +1000 connections and Origin is for +5000 connections.
    Adobe
    should try to teach them some =) ) Anyway we had also
    confused about
    licence needs. Ali Halac (medyasoft-istanbul) really helped
    us a lot
    about all the issues but there was still some that they also
    have to
    learn by Bilkom (adobe partner). But we (and they) couldnt
    reach any
    contact in Bilkom because they were in vacation. So it has
    been nearly
    1 month and i cant still get enough information about the
    licence that
    i need. i 've checked all the whitepapers blogs vs. about
    Origin&Edge
    licences but couldnt find enough information though. Now i
    need some
    one that can directly help me about this issue? Any email or
    telephone
    number?

    i also dont think that this would be really helpful but i
    tried almost Everything. I really dont know what to do now. we are
    thinking to start an opensource project to stream over rtmp with C.
    Coding what we need in C would not take more than a month. I have
    no one to help me in USA. And as you know there is not much
    information about Origin&Edge licences. They only say that it
    starts from 45.000$. so i also dont know the price. i think that
    maybe ones that had similar problems before can help me.

    AccessManager.Reject ] : [ code=403 need auth; authmod=adobe ] :.
    Whenever this Warning come out I will not be able to stream
    from my FMS anymore unless I reboot my Server. Does anyone
    exprience this issue and had a workable solution? Thanks

    Hi,
    Do you have access module installed with FMS. Please check
    if there is a libconnect.dll/libconnect.so file placed below {FMS
    Install Dir}/modules/access.
    Also are you using the authentication module for Flash Live
    Media Encoder on the same server?
