Folder named "ABBYY FineReader 5 Sprint" in Applications....

Hello everyone,
When I open my Applications folder in Finder, there is a folder named "ABBYY FineReader 5 Sprint" among all of the applications. When I open this folder, there is nothing at all in it, however at the bottom of its window, it says there are 5 items and 129.9 GB available. Does anyone know the purpose of this folder, and should it be there at all? Is it safe to delete it?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
joe

Thanks for marking it as solved joe. Lexmark doesn't have a great reputation for supporting OS X, they do to a certain extent but they don't cover all of their printers for Macs. If you scan the printer section of the various discussion forums, Lexmark come up a bit too often as something people have problems with.
I favour Epson and Canon printers and scanners. They have long worked well with the drivers that come wit the Mac and who wants to fluff around with installing drivers. Today it is reasonable to expect to plug something in and have it print.
Have a look at some of the models here:
Some All in One printers
and choosing a few, do search on Google to find reviews of the model, just to get some feedback on other's experiences of using them, which can be informative.

Thanks. I am sure you are correct, although I don't recall installing it and I only discovered it after the update to Lion. That is why I thought there was some connection. Anyway, I have deleted the folder and its applications. Thanks again for setting me straight.

  • ABBYY FineReader third party software problems with Lion?

My Epson scanner now needs drivers to suit Lion and after downloading these now works fine. However the supplied 3rd party ABBYY FineReader OCR doesn't work and after following the update links from both the Apple and Epson web-sites the only solution would seem to be to purchase a license for the new Lion compatible software.  I would have thought that Epson would have offered a replacement CD that would include all the upgraded software for Lion to existing users!  Has anyone been in touch with Epson and ABBYY to ask the question?

The problem I faced, as others seem to have on this thread, is how to get the Mountain Lion compatible version of ABBYY.  Pasted below is the email response I received last October with the FTP link.  The problem was not with Epson (although I wish too that they had included the ML compatible software on the CD), but with ABBYY. I got this solution by interacting via email with ABBYY technical support staff.  Frustrating to all of us that we have to go to this length to get software that works.
As to using the ABBYY software, it will not recognize a wireless-connected printer.  My workflow, as described above, is to scan and PDF a document (I now use Vuescan for that rather than Preview, but either works just fine), then run through ABBYY for OCR.  Gotta tell you that the OCR works perfectly!  The ABBYY software is also capable of doing OCR in a variety of languages -- I do both English and Spanish, and it picks up all the special Spanish characters without any problems.  Yes, I know that Vuescan can also do OCR, but ABBYY works far better.
So here is the post from ABBYY (I deleted contact info from the person who sent it to me since it had the usual "confidential, do not post" stuff):
    Please do the following:
    1.     Remove ABBYY FineReader Express Edition.
    2.     Download the latest release of  ABBYY FineReader 8.0 Sprint (compatible with OS X 10.8) from the following ftp-link: ftp://Sprint8Mac:[email protected]=[email protected]
To download please do as below:
    - Go to ‘Go > Connect to Server…’ in Finder,
    - Copy the link, paste it in and click OK.
    - Finder will open a folder containing the distributive.
    - Save the file to your hard drive.
    3.     Install the program from downloaded distributive.

That's it -- good luck to all.

  • 17.4Gb in a folder named "Previos System.localized" - is it delete-able?

    Hi,
I wanted to try and free up my hard drive, and I used OmniDiskSweeper to see where all the disk usage was.
The biggest thing in the list is a Folder named "Previous Sysytem" located in the Drive root (allong with the Applications and System Folder).
I have in the past done an Archive and Install procedure, and I am wondering if this is the remnants of before that, but most importantly, I want to know if I can delete it, or if it is in use by the system as its pretty big!
    Thanks alot,
    James

Yes, that big folder is your ancient system. If you don't have any problems with the current OS version you may delete it.

  • My download are going to a different folder. They usually went to a folder named 'Downloads' and now they go to a folder named 'Temp', Why is this?

Usually when i download something it goes to a folder named 'Download', however, now they go to a folder named 'Temp'.

Get info on the drive.  What format?  FAT drives may be behave erratically for heavy-duty use of the kind you are doing. It's okay to leave a flash drive FAT formatted for light use but for heavy-duty file transfer I think you can encounter issues.
iTunes does not look at files directly.  It maintains a database (library.itl) of the files in its collection.  When you play a track it looks up where that file is located and goes and plays the file in that location.  If you manually move a file or folder used by iTunes that database is no longer correct and you get broken links ( ! ).  If you want to move files or folders with iTunes you have to let iTunes do it.  Since iTunes is organizing your library there isn't much flexibility in what you can do other than move the whole collection to a different folder by changing the media location preference in preferences.

  • Importing .ISO files into SCVMM2012 R2 - Folder Naming Quirk

We've run into a folder naming issue in regards to importing .ISO's into the VMM Library. When specifying a folder to import the .ISO into, VMM adds %20 to the folder names where spaces are. Not a huge deal but wonder if anyone has a way around this without

No, it's a bug, I have ran into this all over the UI and has caused me no end of pain. I have reported it but I have had no word if this will ever be fixed

  • Error while creating folder named "bin" using explorer view in sharepoint 2010

I am getting error when I create a folder in a library named "bin" using explorer view in sharepoint 2010.
When I create folders with other names I don't get any errors.
     Please suggest.

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you got an
error when you create a folder named “bin” in a SharePoint library with explorer view.
There are any Microsoft.NET Framework assemblies that have controls or parts that the SharePoint site uses, which are stored in the bin folder. You can remove “bin”  from hidden segments, then you can create a folder named “bin”
in the SharePoint library with explorer view.
1.Opened IIS Manager and selected Server name -> Request Filtering -> Hidden Segments tab -> Removed "bin" from there:
       2.Perform IISRESET:

  • I have installed Adobe Lightroom CC.  In the process of launching, a popup appears, that says:  "AN INTERNAL ERROR HAS OCCURRED.  Cannot create the required folder:  /Users/(my user name)/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Develop Presets."  So e

I have installed Adobe Lightroom CC.  In the process of launching, a popup appears, that says:  "AN INTERNAL ERROR HAS OCCURRED.  Cannot create the required folder:  /Users/(my user name)/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Develop Presets."  So even though Lightroom CC is installed, it will not launch.  What do I need to do to allow it to launch?

The problem was solved today.  Here's the full story.  I'm a Mac user.  At first I installed Lightroom CC on my iMac (desktop).  I had this problem so I called Adobe, and was referred to a "special unit" .  After about an hour the tech solved it for me ... we did a screen sharing and she took control of my computer for a loooong time.  Because of language difficulties, at first I wondered if she knew what she was doing but she eventually solved it.  Although she couldn't explain exactly what she was doing, she summarized it by saying "it was a permissions problem."  I asked if I would have the same issue later when I installed it on my laptop (Macbook Air).  She said probably not.
But I did.  The same internal error popup arose on launch and launch did not complete on my laptop.  I tried chat but no joy so I eventually called Apple Care.  I had noticed that on my laptop (and the iMac for that matter), that there was no Library folder after my user name.  The Apple tech explained that the Library folder is actually there but it is hidden because it's very easy for users to do some very nasty things to their computer by going astray while in the Library folder.  The folder is actually there, but they hide it.  I did remember seeing that the tech helping me with my iMac had typed the work "Library" while she was controlling my computer.  Basically she had activated the hidden Library folder so she could open the path that Lightroom was trying to follow to create that "Develop Presets" folder.  For some reason, the inability to create that folder in the launch process was preventing launch from being completed.  The Apple tech said she didn't actually have to do that and activated the Library folder by use of the Go selection on the menu bar.  Anyway, once that complete path was replicated and opened, the next step was to go to the Lightroom Permissions field and add my user name to the user categories already there and enable "read and write" permissions to my user name.  Once done, I shut down my laptop, and then rebooted.  I launched Lightroom and then boom, voila, heavens to betsy, etc. it launched and suddenly a dismal weekend turned into a great one.
I am not a geek, so I hope this makes some sense.  I also hope Lightroom launches again tomorrow and beyond!

Anyone knows what's the cause of this error? I follow exactly the steps in Jdeveloper 11g tutorial. The only difference is that my database is MS SQL database.

    Same error.
The real application (web and ejb's) are running on the same OC4J instance. The Web client are accessing the ejb's on port 3101, so i think this is the correct rmi port.
The server is a part of an infrastructure that are running on the same server, the server is one of two ApplicationServers that the infrastructure (farm) is controlling.
each server has an instance name, the server i was deplying to has name instance2. Maybe i have to give a reference to to the instance?

  • Acrobat X: Is there an ABBYY FineReader plugin for better OCR accuracy?

Acrobat X's OCR capability is not very good.  Based on my testing and comparisons, ABBYY FineReader's OCR capability is much better!  Is there a FineReader plugin that can be added to Acrobat X for better OCR accuracy?  If not, can this be a possibility in the future?

ABBYY FineReader is often better, but sometimes Acrobat OCR is better. On some texts Acrobat recognizes word boundaries where FineReader returns multiple consecutive words as a single very long word.

  • Naming of my SOA Composite Application ? (EBF, ABCS...)

    Hi all
I have created a SOA composite application that uses a dbAdapter to poll data from a database and that processes these data in a BPEL process.
The BPEL process transforms the data, then calls other dbAdapters to perform business tasks.
I'd like to be sure of the naming of the SOA composite application.
Should I name it with suffix "EBF" ? Something like "MyServiceEBF" ?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
You can use the documents bellow as guideline for naming conventions... However, naming convention can variate from company to company and there's no global rule or established general practice for composite application names...

  • Problem with ABBYY FineReader or Adobe?

    Dear all,
A large number of our customers send us their texts in PDF format. Some of these texts can not be saved as a Word file, hence we process them through ABBYY FineReader 9.0 Professional Edition. Somehow the word count (often that is the way the project price is calculated in our industry) differs slightly from time to time when processing the same file. Does anybody else recognize this problem? Is ABBYY or Adobe responsible for this mishap? If so, does anybody have a solution?
    Thanks in advance!
