Font Palette

When I have a text selected, is there a way in the font palette to scroll down one font after the other one using a key board command instead of use the mouse?

Hi Bella
Welcome to the forum.
None of the following are a match for the methods you can use in other DTP programs but may help.
If you have a look at the font menu on the ToolBar you will notice all your recent choices will appear at the top of the list above a line.
Also in the fonts palette you can click on the little gear icon (bottom left of window) and add selected fonts to your "Favorites" which makes them easier to locate.
I have not been able to figure out how to create a keyboard shortcut to jump into any of the lists.
Perhaps if we all plead with Apple:

  • Can You Change the Highlighted Button in the Find Font Palette?

I have several hundred spreads that I converted from Quark to InDesign CC and a few fonts are missing, so I need to replace them. I can use the "Find/Replace" window to take care of most of them using the "find format" function, but one doesn't show up as a choice, so I have to change it using the Find Font palette. I select the missing font name and then select the replacement. Then, if I hit the "enter" button on the keyboard, the palette closes because the highlighted button is the "Done" button. Is there a way to change the highlighted button to the "Change All" one?
    Thanks,
    Lloyd

    John,
Thanks for the reply. I tried using the tab key and although it does change the highlighted button, you can't just press "enter" to select it. I also tried ALT+A (option+A) and it did nothing. I should have mentioned that I'm using a Mac.

  • Floating Inspector, Color, and Font Palettes a mess!

It really bothers me the way all the floating control palettes are of different sizes and dont snap together like in Adobe products. I know pages is just using the default OSX palettes which show a lack of fit and finish in OSX. I hope the system wide palettes adopt the new black look of the image adjustment HUD in iWork 07 and Leopard.

Good points. Posting them at http://www.apple.com/feedback/pages.html would be a good idea.

  • Imported text formatting disappearing when changing font in character palette.

Something seems to have changed with my InDesign, and I'm not sure why. Here is what I used to be able to do.
I could import a word doc into a text box. This text would have bold, regular, italics fonts. I would select the text box, then change the font using the character palette by just changing the top font box. For example, if the font imported in as Helvetica but I wanted it all to be Futura, I would select the box and then just type Futura and all of the Helvetica bolds would become Futura Bold, and the Helvetica Italic would become Futura Italic, etc. I didn't have to select each line.
Now if I try to do that same thing, when I select Futura, it just changes ALL the text to Futura Regular. I lose all previous formatting that was imported in from the word doc.
    I hope this makes sense.
How can I go back to the way it was?
PLEASE HELP! This is maddening! Not a big deal for a single flyer design but when laying out a book, this could add DAYS to the project.
    thanks!

I believe the issue lies in the font palette. Here is what I used to do.
    - New document.
    - Create text box.
    - Select text box.
    - CMD + D
    - Select word doc
    - Text is imported with bolds, italics, etc.
At this point, let's say I want font to be Myriad Pro...but I want the bold to remain bold and italic to remain italic.
    - Select text box.
    - Type font name into font palette (No dropdown or popup menu used to appear, now it does). Used to just type Myriad Pro then hit return.
    - Font in text would retain bolds and italics and become Myriad Pro. So if a line in the text imported as Helvetica Bold, it would now be Myriad Pro Bold.
Now when I do this, it just changed ALL of the text to ONE font. If I type in Myriad Pro, a drop-down menu appears and automatically selects Myriad Pro Condensed.
I hope that helps. I know I'm not crazy. This is what I have done forever. I use InDesign every day...and have for years. I rebooted my mac two days ago and this problem appeared. It seemed like some sort of awful update. haha. When I rebooted, I lost all of my preferences. InDesign went back to points and picas instead of inches. Smart guides appeared, I had to turn those off again. Stuff like that.
    Any thoughts?

  • How to see actual fonts while composing mail?

This is driving me crazy. I often copy and paste different bits of text from other sources into email messages I compose in Mail. When I paste in the text, it always appears to be in the same font and size as the existing text. Once I send the email, I discover, much to my chagrin, that the pasted text often shows up in a different font or style. This holds true even if I send an email to myself and read it in Mail. If it is just in a slightly different font it only looks a little sloppy, but it is very embarrassing when it is a radically different font or size.
Sometimes the errant font is applied to only fixed-width fonts, and I can fix it for my own display by setting my "fixed width font" and "message font" to the same thing. But this just makes it look better for me -- anyone else is still seeing the different fonts. And sometimes it happens with formatted text (i.e, pasting a line from a webpage where the text looks fine in the composed mail but shows as huge and bold when the mail is received).
I have my "composing - message format" preferences set to Rich Text, because I want to be able to send rich text messages. I have tried to train myself to use the "paste and match style" command, but I am so used to "command - v" that it is hard to remember to use "shift-option-command - v" every time.
If I change a font intentionally, using the format fonts palette, the different font is immediately visible in the compose window.
This happens on both my Macbook, not on my and my Mac Mini; they are each running Mail 3.6 and OS X 10.5.8
Any ideas? It is very frustrating.

Wish I could be king. But you described the problem perfectly and I am still but a pawn. All I can say is that I trashed the mail preferences (com.apple.mail.plist) on my Mac Mini, and now my MacBook seems to work right.
Sorry. :>) But that is the truth... The MacBook now has actually sometimes displayed pasted text in its actual, different, font and style as I paste it into a partially composed new mail message.
In other (more rational) words, the problem seems to be tied to pasting only certain types of text. I have not been able yet to pinpoint what. Yes, frustrating indeed. The only work-around has been to re-train my fingers to command-option-shift V, for "paste and match style" (like you, I do not want to always use only plain text). Maybe someone else will eventually weigh in with a real solution. The solution I want is just to be able to consistently see any font variations within my message before I send the email.
The info about the different ppi scales between Windows and Mac is interesting, although not relevant to this particular problem. It does explain the apparent overall size differences I have seen before.

  • How to use MICR fonts in Adobe forms (webdynpro java

    Hi,
We have a requirement where we need to print some MICR codes (for checks) through Adobe Forms.
I have installed some true type MICR fonts in windows and Adobe Font Manager (in ADS) as well.
It is visible in the Adobe Form design time (Font palette) and when I use the font for text, it is visible in preview too. But when I run the web dynpro application, in the online form it is converted into Standard font (Times new Roman).
Is there anyway to handle this issue.
    Please let me know.
    I am using NWDS 7.0.1

  • Body text appearing as TNR, not the default font

I'm having a problem with the font settings with mail sent from Mail.
I've set the default font to Arial, but all emails sent to other people (using Outlook under WinXP) see it as Times New Roman. I've even specifically selected Arial from the Font Pallete and it still comes up as TNR. If I select another font, like say Verdana, they see that fine. It's only Arial that screws up.
I also have Arial in my signature, but that comes up fine - even at the same time as the body text is screwing up

Try setting the default in Mail preferences to something else other than Arial, then change the font to Arial in the message via the Font Palette.

  • Math fonts don't display in mail messages?

For some reason when I receive a mail message with math - fractions, equations, etc. these characters don't display.  My husband has an iPhone 4 and this isn't a problem on his phone.  I am wondering how I can get these characters to display?
    Thanks

    Hi markatos
    Hi Rick Van Vliet
I have the same problem, and I can also (only) underline text.
Since upgrading to Tiger (10.4.8) from Panther 10.3.9, I have experienced a few daft functional problems, eg the 'Enter' key not working on the calculator (the standard one, not the Dashboard version). This turned out to be a '.plist' problem.
Mail was marking all outgoing mail as 'Junk' ... '.plist' problem again.
But I cannot see how to sort this one ... at the moment I am having to format text on a Stickie then paste it into a Mail message in order to do simple things like bold headings (I don't need any more than this really). So the 'Font' palette is working. Message format is set to 'Rich Text'.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Help will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Problem with adding Fonts using SE73

I have a requirement to add new fonts to use in PDF printing.
    1) I have tried to add an MICR font using SE73 and I got the following message.
    Error
Licensing: True Type Font must not be embedded.
Question: Is there any restriction on type of fonts that can be added to SAP?
    2) I have tried a different font and added it successfully but I dont see the font in Font palette in PDF Layout.
Question: Is there any additional configuration to be done for the font to be visible in PDF - Font palette?
    Please help.
    Thank you,

    Hi,
Go to Character formate in your form.
create a new char formate with enable BAR code AND
you can give its type too.
To Create a Bar code prefix:
    1) Go to T-code - SPAD -> Full Administration -> Click on Device Type -> Double click the device for which you wish to create the print control -> Click on Print Control tab ->Click on change mode -> Click the plus sign to add a row or prefix say SBP99 (Prefix must start with SBP) -> save you changes , it will ask for request -> create request and save
    2) Now when you go to SE73 if you enter SBP00 for you device it will add the newly created Prefix
Create a character format C1.Assign a barcode to the character format.Check the check box for the barcode.
The place where you are using the field value use like this
    <C1> &itab-field& </C1>.
You will get the field value in the form of barcode.
Which barcode printer are you using ? Can you download this file and see.
    http://www.servopack.de/Files/HB/ZPLcommands.pdf.
It will give an idea about barcode commands.

    Detailed information about SAP Barcodes
A barcode solution consists of the following:
    a barcode printer
    a barcode reader
    a mobile data collection application/program
A barcode label is a special symbology to represent human readable information such as a material number or batch number
    in machine readable format.
There are different symbologies for different applications and different industries. Luckily, you need not worry to much about that as the logistics supply chain has mostly standardized on 3 of 9 and 128 barcode symbologies - which all barcode readers support and which SAP support natively in it's printing protocols.
You can print barcodes from SAP by modifying an existing output form.
Behind every output form is a print program that collects all the data and then pass it to the form. The form contains the layout as well as the font, line and paragraph formats. These forms are designed using SAPScript (a very easy but frustratingly simplistic form format language) or SmartForms that is more of a graphical form design tool.
Barcodes are nothing more than a font definition and is part of the style sheet associated with a particular SAPScript form. The most important aspect is to place a parameter in the line of the form that points to the data element that you want to represent as barcode on the form, i.e. material number. Next you need to set the font for that parameter value to one of the supported barcode symbologies.

  • Where are font preferences kept?

I have this weird situation with the font window, the one you bring up in TextEdit when you select "Show fonts". The window that comes up as many invisible entries in my Favorites window. That is, about 5 lines show fonts I have saved as to size and color, etc. However below that are about 10 lines of nothing visible, yet if I have text selected and and click on those empty lines then it formats the text. Obviously there is something wrong since the font name and formatting does not show.
I have tried to find out to reset this by looking for the preferences files that holds my settings but cannot find it.
Does anybody know where it is?
    Thanks,
    Richard

    Hi, Richard.
The preference file that contains your font Favorites, as displayed in the Font palette (the "font window" you cited), is the file
    com.apple.Favorites.collection
in your Home > Library > FontCollections folder. This folder also contains any font collections or libraries you've defined using Font Book.
    Good luck!

  • Font-disabling problem

How can I make fonts that are disabled in my Font Book stop appearing in my system font palette and my application font menus and dialogs?
This problem began suddenly last week. I use only a handful of fonts, and to keep my font lists sparse I keep all but my regular fonts plus the System fonts disabled in Font Book. Till recently this worked perfectly.
But last week when I installed MS Word, the installer stuffed a zillion fonts (which I don’t want, even disabled) into my system, and since then, my entire Font Book catalog shows up in my system font palette and my application font menus and dialogs -- even though Font Book still shows only my few regular fonts plus the System fonts as being enabled, and all the rest disabled.
    Thank you.

I've had the same -- a couple of bounces of the icon and no further action without warning. I too had to reinstall the system before that happened.
Macromedia had a special patch for this. I have patched my Studio MX and everything has been working fine ever since. It's still "out there" somewhere, but I don't have the link anymore, since macromedia.com closed down.
I tried to find the link, here's the article:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_18933
I believe this may be your problem. It fixed mine after I reinstalled the system and did a "combined upgrade" for it.

  • How to add fonts to Font window

I use a variety of fonts in Pages and I would like to know how to move fonts (really the names of fonts, like Baskerville, Helvetica, etc.) into that little box that appears when you click on Fonts .... I have about 6 in that box or window now but I can't figure out how I got them there long ago. Also, once they are in the box ... how do I delete one or more, selectively. Many thanks for answering this simple question.

Mr SeekHelp. I tried to tell you that you can only have the last six font you have used there in that box. You can't add more. They will change when you use other fonts. You have to look in the long list if you want to use another one then the last six fonts you have used. That is the way Pages works.
You do not move anything from the Font palette window. You can select it and start writing. It is just another option to select a font.
What you could do is creating in the Font Book a collection of your favourite fonts. Give the collection a name. In the Pages Font  palette you can choose to just see that collection of fonts. Choose the font you want to use for the moment and start writing.
    Edit:
I am learning while i try to help you. you do not have to go to the Font Book to create the collection. You can do it right in the Font palette. I didn't know that until now as I haven't had any need for it.
    Click on the plus sign
    Give the collection a name
Select All fonts and drag selected fonts to you new collection
Click on the collection name to see that you have your chosen fonts in the collection.
Select a font and start writing!

  • Can't delete "Null" fonts in Font Favorites

After buying a new mini and porting over my settings, apps and documents and so forth from the old one, I ended up with a confusing font situation. Fonts that were assigned to me as a user were now needed by the "new" user. I use Linotype Font Explorer, and had to delete many duplicate (phantom) fonts once I had moved the bulk of my font files to a Shared fonts folder.
Now, I notice that in the Apple Fonts panel, I have some unwanted and unasked-for "Favorites", namely:
    (null) 0.0 pt.
    (null) 0.0 pt.
    (null) 0.0 pt. and
    (null) 0.0 pt.
I drag them off the Fonts palette and get a "poof!" cloud, but they persist in the list. How can I get rid of them for good? TIA.

    I got it.
Evidently, the forward slashes used in the name of the collection, 'System/Library/Fonts', is a no-no.
Once I renamed without forward slashes and deleted, it stuck.
...or at least it hasn't returned yet.

  • Only 10 fonts in Font Book, though all seem to be working

Only 10 fonts appear in Leopard Font Book, though the standard font palette in Pages etc indicates that all my hundreds of fonts are working. I've tried "adding" my User Fonts folder to no avail, and deep cleaning all caches with Leopard Cache Cleaner didn't help either.
Am I alone, and if not, is there a fix for this?

Answering this and the next posting in one:
The fonts listed in the User list are:
    Abadi MT Condensed Extra Bold
    Abadi MT Condensed Light
    Adobe Garamond
    Adobe Jenson
    Adobe Wood Type
    AkzidenzGrotesk
    Andale Mono
    Frutiger
    ITC Anna
    ITC Fenice
These are the same 10 that I mentioned in my original posting.
Of these, only Fenice is marked as a duplicate, but the Resolve Duplicates command does nothing. None of the listed fonts can be disabled using the checkbox or menu command.
If further User fonts are manually loaded, many (in fact most) of them are marked as duplicates, but the same comments apply (i.e. neither Resolve Duplicates nor Disable does anything).
After a number (a dozen or so) fonts are manually added, Font Book will start to crash with each addition.
My Leopard installation was Customized to avoid installing the additional Asian fonts. Subsequently, I reinstalled (using Pacifist), the /System/Library/Fonts and /Library/Fonts folders. I then placed my other fonts into /Users/Home/Library/Fonts manually, but although they function correctly in applications, Font Book does not see them and will not load them, either all at once or a few at a time. The fonts have a variety of origins including Adobe, Microsoft and others, but all of them have previously been verified OK by both Font Book (Tiger edition) and Font Doctor.

  • Changing font throughout a theme

Hi everyone...I have used iWeb to produce several pages for a website using the theme Layered Paper. Everything looked so nice and well-laid out...and then I checked it out on a Windows machine and found out that the font Hoefler Text (which iWeb uses as the standard font for the ENTIRE theme) is not on Windows machines, and just shows up as Times Roman. It looks terrible...the font causes lines to break wrong, it's a mess.
I don't want to start over with a new theme, because it's going to throw everything all off terribly when I change the theme. I don't want to just start clicking everything and putting shadows/rotating it 0.1 degrees, because if all of the text is turned into graphics (1) it won't be searchable...in my website and on Google; and (2) it will be slower for the pages to load.
I would like to just tell iWeb to make all of the theme work as the font Georgia instead of Hoefler Text, even if it takes some minor hacking. Can anyone help me out on this? I am sure there are others out there who are experiencing similar frustration and could use the tip as well.
As a side note, for the life of me I can't figure out WHY Apple would design entire themes for the web in fonts that aren't web-friendly fonts! Particularly when they have a list of "Web" fonts in the show fonts palette.
    Thanks everyone,
    dshillis

Thanks, this is a great workaround, even though it is a slight hack. Going to this link shows you a movie clip on how to do this, but basically what you're going to go is go into Applications/iWeb, Show Package Contents, go into Contents folder, then into Resources folder, and find the FontMapping.plist file. Open the file in a text editor (probably a good idea to make a copy of the original file 1st). This file bsaically tells your website via iWeb which fonts to substitutes for websites. So for instance, the first font listed is AmericanTypewriter, and under the Windows line it lists its substitute as Courier. If you change Courier to Courier New, for instance, it will display Courier New.
So I went into this file and edited all of the Hoefler Text entries to substitute for Georgia if a substitute was needed.
    Thanks again!! Great tip!
    David
