Fontpath???

Hello!
I am a student at an univercity in Sweden and using Solaris 5.8 on Ultra computers. I (obviously) don't have root access to the system.
My problem is that I cannot add to the fontpath with "xset fp+ ~/fonts" command. I get the following error:
xset: bad font path element (#55), possible causes are:
Directory does not exist or has wrong permissions
Directory missing fonts.dir
Incorrect font server address or syntax
1) the directory exists and is available. I have tryed with the full path as well, it gave the same error.
2) fonts.dir exists in the dir. Command "mkfontdir" worked fine.
3) I don't have a clue what the last cause is, so maybe the problem is there.
Is there any way to add to the fontpath manually?
Maybe in the .zshenv file?

Are you displaying on the local machine, or is your X11 server
a remote machine? If the X11 server is remote, maybe it cannot
access your home directory? (e.g. when you're running a windows
X11 server and direct the sun's X11 clients to your window PC's
X11 server)No, it's a local machine.
Another possible problem could be NFS. Is ~/fonts on a remote
NFS server? A solaris X11 server runs typically as user "root",
and "root" might me mapped to userid "nobody"/"-2"/whatever
accessing your ~/fonts on the NFS server.The network is setup so that I can access my userdir from any comp, so yes, it's on a remote NFS server. When dealing with aliases and menu calls from my WM, it doesn't work to set "~/<somedir>/<someprog>", instead I have to specify the whole path that I get with "pwd". But, as I allready said, I tryed that as well and it didn't help either.
