There you go:
http://www.justdreams.de/archlinux/images/fontTests/
personally I think they are pretty nice, also I like to have a nicely build
Monospace font there, but speakiing of readability Bitstream Vera Sans
Mono definetaly outperforms Consolas at smaller sizes.
Calibri is a nice sans-serif one for small place. Candara is really well done
in my eyes, quite a pleasure to read it. While Corbel ist the bread an
butter font probably replacing Verdana.

  • "Unable to create font" error when starting After Effects CS4 (Windows Vista)

    Hi all
I have read a hundred posts about the "unable to create font" message that appears when running After Effects in both CS4 and CS5 versions.
On MAC, it seems that installing the Verdana fonts family is enough.
On my PC running Windows Vista, i tried unsuccessfully :
    - uninstalled and reinstalled After Effects
    - installed all the fonts of the Adobe Font Folio v11
    - looked for the "AdobeFnt.lst" to delete it, found no such file in my whole hard drive
    - changed my system language to English (USA)
    Other CS4 softwares work.
    What can i do?

See this page for some additional information about this error.
    > I forgot to mention that i also installed the 9.0.2 update. Didn't work either!
You should also install the After Effects CS4 (9.0.3) update.

  • PSE 8 and Vista: Fonts

Hi.  I'm extremely new to photoshop.  I'm working on a project and want a different font than what PSE 8 has.  (I am surprised that it only has 20-30 styles).  I went online and found what I wanted and downloaded it to my computer.  It's available in my Microsoft Word, but yet PSE 8 does not recognize it or other types of font already on my computer.  I went into my program files, adobe, photoshop and found the font file and even tried to drop the font into there, but again, it wouldn't accept it.
Am I doing something wrong or can someone please guide me on how to do this?  My computer is new (2-2009).  I am using Vista.
Thanks so much for any help you can give me.

Adobe doesn't provide support for PSE 7 or earlier on Vista 64, though many people have reported that it runs just fine:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshopelements-6-7-faq.htm#_PSE_and_Vista
While Adobe has committed in writing that PSE 8 will run on Windows 7, they don't say if they'll support Windows 7 64-bit (Windows 7 has 32- and 64-bit flavors, just like Vista and XP).   It wouldn't surprise me if Adobe declines to support Windows 7 64-bit, just as they have with Vista.
However, the problems you're experiencing are very possibly not related to Vista 64. See this FAQ for troubleshooting PSE Editor crashes:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshopelements-6-7-faq.htm#_Troubleshooting_Editor_ crashes
Finally, you could try downloading the 30-day free trial of PSE 8 from Adobe.com.

  • Verdana Font not printing properly using Vista and Acrobat Pro v8

Has anyone got any ideas as to how I can fix this problem.  When I send a word doc to the pdf printer that is all in verdana font it prints out gibberish, however, if in aerial or times new roman thats fine.  I'm using Vista and printing via a terminal server.

    S.D.A
I'm sorry but I'm not if the font is embedded as I expect it is, as I have no problem printing the font on various personal computers I use.  However, the user that I am trying to support is having problems.
Previously when we were using Windows XP Pro and Acrobat Pro v8 and the user had no problems printing over the LAN.  We recently moved and ugraded our systems to Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista and printing via Terminal Services.  The fault may lie with the pinter drivers not being installed on the Terminal Server, but I'm not sure I just need someone to confirm they have had the same problem and how they fixed it.
    Any suggestions would be greatful.

  • SegoeUI (MS Vista System Font) on MAC OS 10.4

Hey ladies and gentlemen. I have a font issue on OSX10.4.8. I copied from MS Vista RC1 the open type font 'segoeui' (as segoeui.ttf) to my OSX font book. The font isn't showing propper, witch means that I only get kind of arabic letters or some cursive font sets into the font book. I double checked that phenomena with some coellege with the same result. Thank you in advance for any advice. If anyone needs to have the font set file to check you can get it in MS Vista (font folder) or in WS Office 2007 (I don't have).

    Hello Christoph,
please have a look at chapters "6. User Configuration" and "7. Administrator Configuration" of the documentation which comes with the SAP GUI for Java installation.
Easiest is to launch SAP GUI and to choose "SAPGUI Help" from the "Help" menu to get there.
In case you do not have a Mac available, just do the same with SAP GUI for Java on Windows.
When you became familiar to configure the logon with latter, it should be easy to instruct a Mac user.
    Best regards

  • Solution for font problem using iTunes store (iTunes 9 @ Vista)

For all those of you who experience font problems rendering the iTunes store (I got partly jibberish many letters rendered as squares). For me it turned out that
my Arial fonts were corrupted (there were other files with the same font names residing in my Windows font directory). Deleting all Arial and installing them new from another Vista machine solved the problem.
I got to analyze the problem as follows: the rendering of the iTunes 9 store is done by the webkit. This reads a list of available fonts with files names from the registry and stores it in the file C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\WebKit\FontsList.plist (do not edit, it is generated each time you start iTunes anew). If you compare (e.g., using diffdaff) this file to the one of a Vista computer that does not show the font problem, you pretty soon realize which font family might cause the problem for you. For me it was Arial (which is used by Windows as a substitution for the Helvetica fonts BTW).

You can try to download items one at a time to get rid of this error message. Follow these steps for such:
    1) Open iTunes.
    2) From the Store pull-down menu at the top, choose Check for Purchases.
    3) Enter your account name and password, then click Check. Your purchases should begin downloading.
    4) Under the STORE section on the left, click Downloads.
    5) Click the Pause All button in the lower-right corner. This will temporarily pause all of your downloads.
    6) To resume only one of the downloads, click the refresh button that appears to the right of one of the paused downloads.
If that doesn't help, you may want to consider performing the following to be sure no software is conflicting with iTunes:
1.) Disable all anti-virus software you may have running
2.) Disable all firewall software you may have running
3.) Disable all web acceleration software you may have running
4.) If you are connected to the internet via an internet router, please disconnect it and connect directly via your broadband modem
    Hope this helps =)

  • Is there a font that's same in Vista, XP, linux?

Is there a font that's same name, size and form in Vista, XP, linux and elsewhere?

Even if he did find fonts that are similar, each of the platforms use different DPI settings, so it's impossible to get them to display exactly the same.

  • Acrobat v8.1.2 Word 2003 Vista x64 embedding fonts without subset?

Acrobat v8.1.2 Word 2003 Vista x64 embedding fonts without subset?
Relative newbie: Every time I create a pdf from a 330 page Word 2003 doc file I end up with a very nice pdf file with all the fonts embedded as 'Embedded Subset' when I was simply hoping for 'Embedded'.
I turned off embedding altogether in the Word Options and it didn't make any difference.
    I have cleared:
Printers / Adobe pdf / fonts / Subset embedded fonts when percentage of characters used is less than...
I also have the pdf Converter Advanced Options / True Type Font set to 'Download As Softfont'
..and the Postscript Output Option set as 'Optimize for Portability'
.."Rely on system fonts only, do not use document fonts." is unchecked
    Any suggestions? tia

Well, I was following instructions on a website on how to create a pdf and a printscreen showed the Acrobat fonts window with just 'Embedded'.
The instructions were a little vague, to be honest, and I'm wondering if I'm missing anything. The pdf is going to a Print on Demand publishing house so I suppose it may well end up in any printer's you care to name in any Country you care to name...

  • Vista and Embedded Flash Fonts are missing?

I Just upgraded to Vista with a new development machine. Have
everything installed and good to go.
I open a previous Director File that contains swf assets and
static fonts. The fonts are simply missing. When I view the swf on
it's own... no problem and text displays perfectly. swf in Director
in Vista, no go. It worked perfectly in XP.
The files that are published with XP, the fonts in Flash
assets are all okay. Publish the exact same file in Vista, Fonts
    are missing.
    Any ideas?

Fixed it by installing the latest Flash8 Xtra. Wish adobe had
an installer that could just "update" the software rather than
manually replacing files... Ah well, all good now.

  • Problem with Windows Vista Server 2008 - Font characters replaced with square blocks on login screen

Hi!  Last week, I set up a server for a client (Windows Vista Server 2008).  Everything was working fine until this week when I did a remote login, and the server's screen shows all blocks instead of character (ie. "Administrator" shows up as Rectangular blocks) - and when I type in the password box, my characters come out the same blocks. The computer lets me login like this but then when the desktop displays, all texts is Blocks - like the windows default font is missing.
Anybody else run into this mystery and is there a fix?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
Based on my experience, this issue might be caused by compatibility issues of video card driver and language options settings.
I’d like to suggest you try the following steps to fix the issue.
    1.    Please check whether you have installed correct video card drivers on both client and server machines. You’d better download the latest drivers from Video card manufacture and reinstall the drivers on both of the machines.
    2.    Please confirm whether the regional and language options settings on client and server machines are the same. If not, please temporarily change the settings on two machines to be the same and have another test.
    3.    If you use some third-party remote desktop connection tools to connect to the server, please have another try with Windows build-in remote desktop connection.
    I hope this helps, thanks.

  • Solution for Vista, missing Postscript fonts, & CS3

Just switched over 64-bit Vista (first time on Vista for me--no more ATM Lite) and found that even if I installed my old .pfm-conforming postscript fonts, they'd show up in everything but CS3.
I had followed Adobe's directions for Vista and postscript files, and installed by right clicking and selecting "install". All showed up in the Windows/Font directory, but the only PS font Photoshop saw was Myriad.
Since Myriad is Adobe's font, and was probably installed with CS3, I tried uninstalling all PS/Type 1 fonts from the Fonts directory. Myriad disappeared as well.
So I figured, no, Myriad must have been installed in the same place as the others.
Nonetheless, I tried dropping my postscript files (.pfm, .pfb. .inf for each) into Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Adobe/Fonts, and THAT worked.
Now all my postscript files function perfectly fine throughout CS3--Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.
64-bit related? Vista installs only .pfm files in the font directory but CS3 wants the .pfb or .inf files as well? No idea. But I do know Adobe's support docs were useless on this matter.

I did and got a friendly guy who apparently had never heard of the 2739 error. I was hoping to get some support here. In another thread I read something about holding the installation window until installation starts. I can try it, but I doubt I am quick enough before the error window opens.

  • CS3 Postscript fonts not visible when Installed with Suitcase 11.0 Vista Ult64

CS3 Postscript fonts not visible when Installed with Suitcase 11.0 on Vista Ultimate 64bit.
Truetype and Opentype work fine. I have searched through all the forums here multiple times, but not found a solution. The only workaround I found was to manually put the font files in c:/ProgramFiles(x86)/CommonFiles/Adobe/Fonts.
When I put any font files in that folder, they show up in CS3 for use, but not in windows apps. I thought I would make a permanent work around by placing all of my uninstalled font files in that folder, then use suitcase to install them from there. That didn't work because EVERY font in that folder is available to CS3 and turned on. Do they get installed when you put them in there?? It didn't seem like they were installed, and windows apps didn't see them.
These are workarounds anyway. My main goal is to have suitcase work so I can organize my fonts efficiently. Extensis blames the font and CS3. I have read that there are adobe issues with other font management software as well as suitcase. Any help would be appreciated.

Got mine FIXED here is what i did:
    Windows 7 64bit SP1, CS 5
Postscript fonts (comprising of *.pfb + *.pfm files) did not show up in any CS5 app, but showed OK in Word, Excel, Notepad etc.
Tried  activating through Suitcase Fusion 2 and also through FontExpert 2009 -  but neither of them made the fonts visible in CS5 apps
    1) open Start Menu/Control Panel/Fonts
    2) on the sidebar there is "Font settings" item
    3) set the settings as i did
[    ]  Hide fonts based on language settings
[ x ]  Allow fonts to be installed using a shortcut (advanced)
    FIXED mine,
now i can use Suitcase Fusion 2 to install any PFB/PFM fonts without any problems...
PLEASE IF THIS WORKED FOR YOU TOO, LEAVE A MESSAGE HERE SO OTHERS KNOW IF THIS FIX IS 100% WORKING

  • Windows Vista Font Mangement?

I just transitioned from WinXP and using ATM deluxe to Windows Vista. I've got hundreds of Postscript, TrueType, and OpenType font variations that I use for any number of design projects which I absolutely need to manage somehow. I've been reading the threads about why ATM was discontinued, that all fonts can be installed in the Windows Fonts folder, etc. However, that does not solve the issue of actually managing the fonts (custom grouping them, turning them 'on' and 'off', viewing samples, etc). While ATM wasn't the best, it was the simplest to use. There are a number of font management utilities out there, my question is... Which Font Management software is the easiest to use, most reliable (stablest), and best for managing fonts on Windows?
    thanks,
    Kathleen

I do not use a font manager, I keep my fonts on a separate partition and add them to Vista with the font manager, but I deselect 'copy font'.
Using a separate partition means that the fonts will never fragment or get corrupted unless the disk goes.
I have 2600+ fonts active at all times and it does not create a problem.

  • Text caption changes font/colour/size

    Hi
The Recording Defaults for the Text Caption in the prferences has not been altered.
On some slides I need to add a text caption.
I'm finding that sometimes when I click to add a Text Caption the font, colour and size is different to what the default settings are. The default is Arial, 12, #0000FF.
When I manually add a text caption it'll show as System, 10 and black.
Has anyone come across this before?  Is there a way to stop it.  It's really annoying and a time waster to have to manually change the font, size and colour.  And you have to be on your guard.  It's not every time I manually add a text caption, just sometimes.  It's intermittent.
    Thanks
    Anita

    Hi there
The name will vary from version to version.
    Captivate_v10.dat
    Captivate_v20.dat
    Captivate_v30.dat
    Captivate_v40.dat
The location also varies. For me, it is:
    D:\Documents and Settings\Rick\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Captivate
As you can see, D is my drive letter. Yours will likely be C. My name is Rick and is how I log in. Yours will be different. Also, the "Application Data" folder is likely to be hidden from your view unless you adjust Windows to show it to you. And all of this is likely in a different location if you are using Vista or Windows 7. I'm using XP Pro.
Note that you cannot edit this file. Captivate does that internally. About all you are able to do is to close Captvate and delete or rename it. Captivate will then cook up a fresh one when it starts up and cannot locate it.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Type 1 Fonts not appearing in CS6 apps

I'm running CS6 on a windows 7 machine. I'm using Extensis Suitcase 11 for WIndows (I know, I know, its old). I have both Type 1 fonts and Open Type fonts installed. The Open Type fonts appear on all apps including other windows apps such as Office. The Type 1 fonts appear in all other apps EXCEPT CS6 apps (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.). I've tried clearing out both the system cache as well as the Adobe cache and I've also cleared the font vault. After doing all that and restarting, the problem was fixed...or so I thought. After logging out at the end of the day and logging back in today, the problem is back. Does anyone know of a solution to this problem? Is it the Suitcase 11 app that might be causing it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Actually there was a known bug in the CS3 applications (but not in the CS4 versions of the same applications) whereby Type 1 fonts installed in the standard Windows font directory (nominally C:\WINDOWS\FONTS\ ) do not show up in the CS application font menus for both Windows Vista 64-bit and Windows 7 64-bit versions. You have two workarounds:
    (1)     Upgrade to CS4 (or very soon, CS5) and the problem does not occur.
    (2)     Install a copy of the .PFB and .PFM files in the private font directory of the CS3 applications.
