My computer meets the requirements.
All software (Windows, iTunes and QuickTime) are up to date.
As for updating my drivers, I found nothing labeled 'Video'. The closest thing I found in Computer/Manage/Device Manager was to click + next to 'Display Adapters' under that I found 'Intel (R) HD Graphics Family' which I right-cicked. From the menu, instead of 'Properties', I selected 'Update Driver Software...', then I selected 'Search Automatically for updated driver software'. I saw the messages "Searching for Software... Searching online for Software... The best driver software for your device is already installed. Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date." I got these same messages when I searched for updated audio drivers.
My computer is already at the highest display resolution. (1366 x 768 recommended) That's as high as my resolution will go. Hmm, I noticed the article's example shows '(1920 x1080 recommended)'. Is my max 1366 x 768 resolution high enough?
As for QuickTime, deselecting 'Enable Direct3D video acceleration' had no effect. Disabling the DirectX entirely (Safe mode (GDI only)) allowed the audio to play, but there was no video, only a black screen.
As for turning on DMA, the only item under 'IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers' is 'Intel Mobile Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller' So I right-clicked, selected 'Properties'. There's no 'Advanced Settings' tab in there. The tabs are 'General, Drivers, Details, Resources' no 'Advanced Settings' anywhere. So much for that.
'Readyboost' was already set at 'Do not use'.
No 'NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA (SATA) controllers' exist in my computer.
The problem still exists. Please help.

HT203433 I have done all of the above and neither my IPod or IPad will auto down load book smaples. The Auto switches just turn off after a few seconds.

I have tried to follow the steps and everything the HELP steps say to do is completed. Yet the slide "on" switches on both the iPad and iPod will not stay in the on position. They immediately slide to off. I get the error message they must be turned on........ Is there some other setting or trick to this? I want to preview boooks from itunes store. The version of iBooks is the latest also. Even though my job involves computer programming, I find these Apple products have such limited support for such expensive objects. I have tried all the steps in the users guide except the restore as new. The reason I have not taken the time to do this two new devices do not work. When I got the iPod back in December, it did not work. I was taking an international trip and wanted to see some book samples and could not. I have been busy since the trip and haven't taken time to try to trouble shoot. Now my company gave me a iPad for being a very long term employee and it does the same thing. That is why I spent hours reading the FAQs, etc, trying to make the switches stay on. That is why I do not think it worth the time to reset as new.. Being a computer tech, It appears to me that the problem lies in the iTunes program on my desktop, rather than both new IOS devices.

It's in recovery mode. It's tryijng to tell you to plug it into iTunes and restore it.

It may be that the Lion installer has been downloaded to your Mac but it hasn't yet been run. Look for it in the Dock or in the Applications folder. If you see it there, launch it to install Lion.

See the first section of Corrupt iPod classic. If the media files aren't visible in the hidden folders then it may still be possible to use an unerase/undelete or other file recovery tool.

Thanks Barney, I tried that but all that comes up in Spotlight are the log files that show the file paths! I don't know how Steam works. Are all the files held by Steam on their server perhaps?

FCP, and all software on OSX, has a few different "preference" files (the extension is .plist), which store all your user settings. Each time you resize a window, change a setting, anything, this file is re-written. Kinda easy to see how they would become corrupt every now and then.
-Close FCP
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences and delete com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data and delete Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs
-Empty your trash
Relaunch FCP and see if that worked.
Download FCP Rescue to make this process easier in the future. When you have FCP running really smooth, open FCP Rescue and create a backup of your preference files. If it starts acting wanky, just run FCP Rescue and Restore your backup preferences. Works really slick, and it's free.
