Force Reboot and Disk Boot to Restore Non Mounting iPods

My 3rd Nano 3G worked great until I added Calendar and Contact Synching. After that the crashing came back, and I could not get it to mount even though the disk mode was displayed on the screen.
After much head scratching, I looked up on the diagnostics and found a way to force it into basic disk mode:
- press Select and Menu to RESET, when the Apple shows:
- press Select and Start/Stop to force the USB disk mode, you will notice the screen looks different from the standard connection mode.
After that I was able to Restore to wipe the iPod and put the regular content back on. I will avoid photos, contacts, and calendar for now.
Saved myself another trip to the friendly Apple store...

I assume you've figure out that iTunes does NOT work for syncing calendars+contacts (even though it's supposed to). I went back to my old iGadget to do this and more. I highly recommend checking it out @ www.ipodsoft.com

  • After selecting "login as guest" MBP reboots and only boots in OS X Utilities mode

Yesterday, I started my mac. I wanted to use the guest account and my mac told me to reboot for that option. From that time, my mac only boots in OSX Utilities mode and there's no way to get there out.
When I used detailed login stats, it seems that it's unable to open the var/db/bootcache,.playlist (no such file or directory)
I'm running 10.8 - my disc is encrypted
Try to find some help on Google without any results

    Hey!
Of all the things you tried you didn't try these things:
go to the recovery partition by hold CMD+R while booting.
Once there, go to the Disk Utility area and Verify and repair your disks and permissions
after doing that with successful results, go and reinstall Mountain lion.
This may or may not fix your issue.
if you don't want to do that just yet, you can see if it is an application that you have downloaded that may be the issue. simply go to system preferences and choose Users and Groups and create a new user.
Log in to the new user and see if your issue persists.
When is save mode go to system preferences Users and Groups and go to the Login items and uncheck all of them.
These are the steps I would have taken first. Try these ones and see if you don't fix your issue. If you figure out what app is making you constantly restart, please let us know what it is so others may be able to solve the issue faster.

  • Lost bookmarks, force quit and re-boot with no change. still cannot save new bookmarks. is there a solution?

    help

    Hello Badgeptfc
I would try first to reset all settings by going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. You will not lose any data by doing this and test it out. If you still cannot save a bookmark, then you will need to restore your iPad and not restore from back up. The instructions for restoring are outlined in the article below.

  • I have an iphone 6 64GB and after a month of usage suddenly the screen went RED with continious rebooting and i can't restore it and this seem as a hardware issue

the problem is i'm from EGYPT AND WE DON'T HAVE APPLE RETAIL STORE so can i send it back to united states by mail and they send me back a new one via mail also or this is difficult ??
    please help ,,,

The support request must be initiated in the country or region that the device was purchased in.  The only exception is countries in the EU.  So the OP would need to send the phone to someone in the US, and then that person would need to initiate the support request, once the issue is resolved, the person the OP sent the phone to would need to send the phone back to the OP.
That is why it is problematic to purchase phones in different countries.

  • Force quite and now time machine does not mount

I had to force quit Mac Book Pro and now the time machine sparse bundle will not mount. Disc Warrior says it is corrupt. Any other ways to get it sorted?

If Disk Warrior can't fix it, then wipe the drive and start over with Time Machine.

  • Itunes7 and a non-mounting iPod

After upgrading to v7 (what a mistake). My iPod now no longer appears in iTunes unless I first delete the c:\program files\ipod directory.
It also no longer automatically launches iTunes and finally seems to be 'updating' for ever.
    Is it me!
Was itunes 7 tested and released or did it just escape?
If you haven't upgraded yet - DON'T - really, it's not worth the effort. Yes it supports the movies and TV shows that you can't buy for another few months but other than that it's useless.
(and apparently my problems are mild compared to some!)
iPod Photo 60GB   Windows XP Pro   not impressed.

and I have just noticed that after using iTunes my sound is screwed until I reboot, no sound anywhere.
    really, really poor.
I'm going back to 605 if I can.
This is a terrible advert for Apple, more testing, less bugs.

  • Removal of non-mounted iPod Shuffle causes total crash or kernel panic

This one has me stumped. Here's what happens:
I leave my shuffle plugged in most of the time. Sometimes when my computer starts up, it doesn't "see" the shuffle on the desktop or in iTunes, and other times, everything seems fine, and I "eject" the shuffle in iTunes.
In either case, when I remove it from the USB port, my Mac (G4 MDD Dual 1GHz PPC, 10.4.11)"crashes." I don't know if what I'm seeing is a "kernel panic" which I have come to associate with strange text scrolling down the left side of the screen. What I get is a translucent gray screen that drops down quickly over the monitor, with a message in several languages saying something to the effect of "The Mac Must Be Restarted."
I have reset & restored the shuffle a few times. I have rebuilt my iTunes library. I have run Techtool, Disk Utility, Disk Warrior on the Mac and all checks out. I don't think I have any other USB issues as keyboard, wireless mouse, headset charger and Palm pilot all are OK.
What is this type of crash called, and how do I fix this issue?

No dock... this is a first generation shuffle.
I have it plugged in to a powered hub which is plugged in to a Macally USB2 card.
I know about the 3rd party wake from sleep issues, but my Mac is set to not sleep.
I've been doing it that way for a few years w/o problems.
Nothing has changed in my hardware setup since well before this started happening.
I'll see about plugging directly in to the Mac. Problem is, the ports are pretty inaccessible, and syncing on a USB 1 port is just awful.

  • Reboot when cold booting

    Hi.
I encrypted my MBP harddrive with the new FileVault feature. Recently my MBP developed an issue where it would hang a while on the spinner when cold booting, then just reboot - and then boot just fine.
This requires me to type in my decryption password two times. Doesn't seem healthy. I tried restoring file permissions from Disk Utility but this didn't help.
Do you know what is causing this and perhaps how I could fix it?

  • Can, and how do you restore from ipod back to recently replaced hard drive on a pc not mac?

can, and how do you restore music from ipod back to recently repaced harddrive on a pc not mac?

Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • Hi, I have a hard disk failure so to recover my data I am using disk utility to restore the data on an external drive while booting from a second external hard drive. When I perform the operation it gives me an input/output error and stops. Any tips?

Hi, I have a hard disk failure so to recover my data I am using disk utility to restore the data on an external drive while booting from a second external hard drive. When I perform the operation and after having selected both my destination and source drives, the operation begins but soon fails due to input/output error. If I try to create an image of the drive it gives me the same error message. Any help would be much appreciated.

Disk Utility only creates a image of the drive, so it's no help getting exactly what you want, which is your files. If the file structure is messed up or the drive is failing then it's no help.
If you have a external boot drive and you can't access the internal non-booting drive though the typical Finder and windows to transfer your files via drag and drop methods, then you need to install Data Rescue on the external boot drive and it will do as best as it can to recover your files. (works on non-encrypted/non-Filevaulted drives only)
.Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
Are you sure you have hard drive failure, or that OS X isn't merely not booting?
Because if the drive is working physically, then there is a host of fixes
