Force Upper Case on Account Name

Hi
We want to force upper case Account Name. Can we do this using post default value of Field Set up..I see function UPPER.. what is the syntax..

Having the same problem i have the following which works if the information is all lower case but if there is an uppercase value in the infomation it then doesnt see this as an issue.

Under Field Validation Error Message i have "Please enter in Caps"

Not sure what is the problem you face. The above throws error even if it finds one small character letter in the Account Name which means forces all as upper case. I assume that is what you are looking for

SQL Developer 3.0 EA1 creates case senstive account names

Hi,
When creating a new account with SQL Developer 3.0 EA1, the user name is enclosed in quotes. This creates a case sensitive account name which creates problems when trying to sign. Historically account names have been converted to uppercase internally and during the logon sequence this is expected behavior. Not sure why the SQL Developer 3.0 EA1 team has chosen to start encapsulating usernames during creation in quotes?

Having case sensitive object names greatly increases the complexity unnecessarily, please don't implement this approach.

Please tell me how you accessed the create user UI. Is this new "functionality" occurring from the DBA Navigator?
It's looking like it changed in both dialogs to me are you seeing the same thing? I'll dig in and see why this was changed.

How to create case-insensitive account name report?

We have an account report that allows users to enter part of an account name and return matching results. The prompt is case sensitive but I would like it to be case insensitive. This report uses a report prompt and not a dashboard prompt (if it makes a difference), and I can switch to dashboard prompt if necessary.
Since the left pane search for Account Name is case-insensitive and you can select case-insensitive when creating account list views, I am hoping there is a way to apply this same functionality to a report.
I understand I can convert Account Name to upper or lower and tell people to search that way, but that will be a last resort.
Any suggestions on how to make the prompt value and report results for Account Name case-insensitive?

Similarly to all this, and even what the OP is looking to accomplish, is the habit of developers attempting to coerce the database object names into the format of their language - usually .net or some such. So they create tables named something like EmpDepProjectStatus which may make their application code all look consistent, but becomes EMPDEPPROJECTSTATUS when created in the database. Why can they not adapt to the database and name the table EMP_DEP_PROJECT_STATUS so that we do not go blind trying to manage their db objects? Is it their teachers that tell them EveryThingMustBeWrittenLikeThisBecauseTheyCannotStandSeperatingTheWordsThatNameObjectsWithSpaces_WHICH_ARE_UNDERSCORES_IN_MOST_ALL_LEGACY_LANGUAGES?
I do not think that Oracle will ever become case sensitive. Just like COBOL, IMS, IDMS, JCL, BASIC, PL/I, etc. There is just too much code out there that ignores case that it could not be done.
Unless, of course, Oracle creates a init.ora option to set case sensitive. But I doubt (hope most sincerely) that they will never do that.

Force Upper Case on Fields

In trying to stay in line with the processes of our company and the Oracle eBusiness suite, is there anyway to force users to enter specific fields in upper case versus lower/mixed case?

Not easily unfortunately, there is a work around requiring field validation. e.g:
(FindNoneOf((FieldValue('<AccountName>')),"ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ0123456789")) = 0)
In your case obviously you want the letters to be lower case. Then put a good error message and you're away, this needs to be on each field though.

Log in at icloud.com, go into Mail, choose Preferences from the Cog menu at the top-right, click Accounts, then your account. Enter the name you want on outgoing mails into the Full Name field.

JDBC send data to oracle, oracle only accept column name in Upper case

Hi experts,
I am doing a scenario File --> XI --> JDBC, JDBC send data to a Oracle 10g database, I have configured JDBC receiver to use XML-SQL format. in oracle database , table "EMPLOYEE" has a column "NAME", but when I send data to oracle using JDBC receiver, the column is "name", then XI complains
" 'EMPLOYEE' (structure 'insert'): java.sql.SQLException: FATAL ERROR: Column 'name' does not exist in table 'EMPLOYEE'.
can anyone help me to let oracle accpet column "name". I can't change colum in JDBC receiver from "name" to "NAME".

Making Oracle case insensitive is not possible (in my opinion). By default all object names are stored in UPPER case in the rdbms dictionary.
When XI searches for column name in Oracle, this search is case sensitive. So u have to configure accordingly.

File name gets converted to upper case

I am facing an unusual problem with Solaris 10. When I insert an USB thumb drive formatted with FAT to copy some file from the stick, some of the files whatever gets copied to hard disk get their file names changed to upper case. This is quite random, at least, I am not being able to figure out what pattern of file names are causing this problem. Any suggestions?

Petstore install problem on Derby and Mysql (Linux) - Upper case table name

I seem to have a problem which may also be at the heart of many threads here - the tables are created in lower case yet referenced in UPPER CASE.
If the DB is case sensitive, the tables arent found.
does anyone have an UPPER CASED VERSION OF THE SETUP SCRIPT ????

Customer is having a Question like
"why the Psoft oracle DB and SID names should be in all upper case (according to the PsoftTools 8.50 Installation for Oracle manual)
why the Peopletools 8.5 install book states all Oracle SID and database names should be in UpperCase.
If we use lower case database name, would encounter any problems, what sort of problems?
i Observed that all the Installation manual for 8.49,50,51 States the Same for Creating of Data base !
Task 1-6-1: Determining Databases and Database Names
You should also determine the names of the
databases at this point, using database names that:
• Are limited to eight characters, all UPPERCASE.
• Capture information about the PeopleSoft product line and the type of database
Please suggest on this !

i Observed that all the Installation manual for 8.49,50,51 States the Same for Creating of Data base !

Set Oracle to force searching string by upper case

Our application using Oracle 11.1 and Hibernate. Data store in our database in mix cases. many of our queries are like select first_name from persons where upper(first_name) like 'DAV%'
It returns Dave, DAVE, dave, David, DAVIE etcAccording to our developers, Hibernate does not send query select first_name from persons where upper(first_name) like 'DAV%' it only doesselect first_name from persons where first_name like 'DAV%'This only return DAVE and DAVID.
Question: Is there a way to set Oracle, at database level or table level, to always search by upper case, that is, select first_name from persons where first_name like 'DAV%' is converted to select first_name from persons where upper(first_name) like 'DAV%'

You can set NLS_COMP.

Example: SQL> alter session set NLS_COMP=ANSI;
Session altered.
SQL> alter session set NLS_SORT=BINARY_CI;
Session altered.
SQL> select name from names where name = 'Johny Jacobson';

Converting mixed case table name to upper case

I am migrating data from Access to Oracle and new tables and columns being created are in mixed case is there a way to convert all tablename or column name automatically.
Also does the migration workbench handle the memo fields currently defined in my oracle database.

If you want tables and columns to be created in Upper Case then make sure the Create ANSI-Compliance Names checkbox is unchecked in the options section.
1.Open Workbench.
2.Tools -> Options
Memo fields are migrated to CLOB fields in Oracle.

You need to use
split firstname into f1 f2 at space.
now take F2 and write as Translate f2 at upper case.
now CLEAR FIRSTNAME.
CONCATENATE F1 F2 INTO firstname seperated by space.

Creating menu name/address with upper-case letters

I just updated my website using Muse, and for the most part it has been remarkably frustration free (and considering I did a total overhaul...that's no small accomplishment!)
I have encountered one problem, however. I have one menu page/address that it is important that I use upper-case letters (it's an order form that has been used for years and the big order period is about to start next week...and I want people to be able to find and access it).
I can not figure out how to change it so the file name will be ALLCAPS.html. Page Properties reverts the name to all lower-case instantly, and any search I do comes up with information that is several years (and generations of software) ago and no longer relevant.
Getting desperate as I'd rather not go back to IWeb and re-do the site yet again...and only have a few days left.

So this is new with iWeb '08??
Only the Password accepts caps?

Table name - Lower, upper case

Hi,
Thank you for reading my post.
1) I created a table:
CREATE TABLE radios(name varchar2(20), frequency varchar2(20));
Notice that the table name is lower case ("radios").
2) I added a constraint on the "name" column:
ALTER TABLE radios ADD CONSTRAINT name_pk PRIMARY KEY(name);
3) Now I want to list the existing constraints for the table "radios".
3.a) If I use the lower case table name, the result is empty:
SQL> SELECT constraint_name, constraint_type
FROM user_constraints
WHERE table_name = 'radios';
no rows selected
3.b) Now, if I use the upper case table name, I get what I am looking for:
SQL> SELECT constraint_name, constraint_type
FROM user_constraints
WHERE table_name = 'RADIOS';
CONSTRAINT_NAME C
NAME_PK P
Can you explain me that phenomenon?
I mean: I created a table name lower case so why does it work
only with the upper case formulation?
Do we have to create upper case table names consistently?
How do you create table names: do you create them upper case?

All the object names are stored in UPPER case, unles you use double quotes to create them:
SQL> create table TesT_1 ( a number);
Table created.
SQL> create table "TesT_2" ( a number);
Table created.
SQL> select table_name from user_tables where table_name like '%1' or table_name like '%2';
TABLE_NAME
TEST_1
TesT_2
