Forget to run depreciation in last year

Hi all,
We forget to run depreciation for Dec 2008 after the GR was reversed that month. We want to post the depr. in this month (Jul 2009). If it must be posted in 2008, what adjustment we can do?
Thanks your help.

I looked at the posted values....
" ...user made the GR reverse in Jan 2009 but posted to Dec 2008. The user forget to make "repeat run" for the adjustment.
We have then GR in Feb 2009 . System allowed user to have planned depreciation, but it doesn't include the skipped period."
I see that depreciation began in period 2 which is Feb 09 (when the goods receipt was entered). This is correct.
The GR reversal posted to Dec08 which was entered in Jan 09 is correctly not affecting the posted depreciation. There should not be any depreciation until Feb 2009 when the valid GR was posted. Looking at the posted figures, no adjustment is needed for Dec or Jan. I see no skipped period.
The total posted depreciation (122.60) equals the amounts posted from period 2 through 6 of 2009. There were no entries in Dec 08 or Jan 09 which need adjustment.
Let me know if I am still not understanding something.

  • Posting Depreciation for last year in the current year

    Hi,
We have a situation in which we have to book depreciation for assets that were put into service since last year in the current year. The depreciation expense was accrued and reported when the year was closed out. However SAP wouldnt allow us to calculate the depreciation for anything before 01/01/2009. The assets were put into service in July of last year and hence we need to post 6 months of depreciation that we accrued last year in this posting period (when we will be capitalizing those assets). How do we go about doing this?
    Here is what we tried:
    1. Manual Depreciation: Doesnt work. The depreciation key we are using (LINA) doesnt allow manual depreciation
    2. Changing the ordinary dep start date: You can change this date to last year but it wont calculate the depreciation from last year. It just starts the useful life from last year. The depreciation that is being caught up starts from 01/01/2009
    3. Unplanned Depreciation: This is not an option because it goes to a different G/L account. The client wants it to be in the regular depreciation expense account only.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
So far my knowledge goes there is no way wherein you can capitalise assets in currnet year and account for dep from the previous year unless you go for post capitalisation vide ABNAN.Let me try to explain it by the following example.
    FY: April to March
    APC 10000/
    Rate od dep   10%
    Ord dep Start   01.10.08.
Asset capitalisation date 01.10.08 but posted in the system on,  say   01.04.09.
    Line items for ABNAN
    70   Asset A/c     10000
    75   Acc Dep                          500(on 10000 @ 10% for 6 months)
50 Rev for post capitalisation 9500.
    FB60 Line items.
    31   Vendor Account       10000
    40  Prior per dep                   500
40  Rev from post capitalisation  9500.
I do hope you will be able to clear your confussion.
    With best wishes

I just bought a new iMac. I found out it is the version of lion from mid last year and not the latest version. What is the difference?Should I return it and buy the latest version?

Not really. Lion is Lion, last year, this year, it is still Lion.
Yes, but it's a different version. Very cleverly said Barney
    Pete
No it is not. The newest update just adds some things to it, no new features and only fixes bugs. It is still Lion OS X 10.7.x. It is not 10.6 or 10.8.
It is just a "Point" release and not a New Operating system. All Macbook Pros that could run Lion from last year can run the newest Lion Point release from this year.
Oh and by the way Barney was talking about Mountain Lion, 10.8. Which is a NEW OS X operating system and has nothing to do with Lion 10.7.x. And it is not out yet.
lol. Don't bust a blood vein. The comment was made in jest, but if you want to be serious, then OK 10.7 and 10.7.1 were different than 10.7.2 and 10.7.3. Why? Well one little thing called 'iCloud' for a start.

Sorry, there was absolutely no mention of the upcoming 10.8 that I could see in Barney's comment.
Cheer Up. Life can't be that bad.

  • Without run depreciation they have closed fiscal years

    Hi all
In my development system without Depreciation Run they have closed fical years.
They did not run depreciation from 2003 and 02 period.
    present fiscal year is 2007.
How can go back and how can i run depreciation from 2003. Please tell me clearly.
    It is very urgent.
    Thanks in advance.
    Krishna

    Hi,
    as far i know,
you cannot close fiscal year without running depreciation until period 12.
you said that your present fiscal year is 2007? is it FI Fiscal Year or Asset Fiscal Year?
If 2007 is FI fiscal year and your Asset fiscal year is 2003 then you want to run the depreciation for 2003, You must open FI fiscal year for 2003 until 2007.  Use t-code : OB52 to open FI fiscal year.
You can check the last closed fiscal year for ASSET in t-code : OAAQ.
    Hope it can help.

The hard drive on my Mac Book Pro failed last week.  I just put a new Samsung SSD in this thing and had to load the Snow Leopard OS that came with the computer.  I had Mt. Lion on the old drive that I had purchased last year but no boot disc made.  I have made several attempts to get the Mt lion soft ware on the computer but the Apple store does not have it only mavericks but my Snow Leopard version is too old for it so I cant get it either.  How do I get something to run the software that I had on the old drive?

Unfortunately I lost my life and am trying to rebuild.  Isn't the technical era great.
    Backup, backup, backup
As a minimum, use 3-2-1 (or even more)
3 copies of your data (original copy counts as 1)
2 different backup utilities/storage formats (protects from bugs in the software)
1 copy off-site (protects against theft, fire, and natural disaster)
More backup copies are even better.
Backup disks are cheap compared to the lost of personal data that does not exist anywhere else.

  • Complete Depreciation in the Last Year of Useful life

    I am trying to create following scenario in SAP using declining balance method where the percentage is calculated from the useful life...example below;
A printer has APC of 100 TRY and itu2019s useful life is 3 years,
    The depreciation percentage is calculated as 1/3 = 0.33 * 2 = 0.66
However if the percentage rate is greater than 50% than 50% is the maximum taken as the annual percentage rate.
    2010u2019s depreciation = 100*50%=50 TRY (NBV balance 50 TRY)
    2011u2019s depreciation = 50*50%=25 TRY (balance 25 TRY)
2012u2019s depreciation =25 TRY (last yearu2019s depreciation = net book value u2013 accumulated depreciation)
    When trying to replicate this scenario in the system; it does the following;
    2010u2019s depreciation = 100*50%=50 TRY (NBV balance 50 TRY)
    2011u2019s depreciation = 50*50%=25 TRY (balance 25 TRY)
    2012u2019s depreciation =12.5 TRY
    2013u2019s depreciation = 12.5 TRY
Even though the useful life of the asset is only 3 years u2013 it carries forward the remaining depreciation to the next fiscal year...this is not what I want. Do you know if there is a parameter in the depreciation key that forces the final year of useful life to take the remaining depreciation amount.

    Hi Bernard,
Yes  - I  have a changeover applied in my first phase to "changeover at end of useful life" then in the next phase I have "changeover in planned life" with immediate depreciation.
The problem with this is that the remaining depreciation is only applied in the next year...however I need it to be applied in the last year fo useful life. The changeover options do not allow for "changover within planned life" unless a percentage is supplied for when net book value reaches a certain percentage.
However, I cannot determine a percentage as the useful life of my assets will always change...resulting in the NBV percentage to be different by asset class..
If there is a way to do this without activating the BADI that would be great.
    Regards

  • How to solve error when run Depreciation (T-Code:AFAB)

    Dear All Experts,
    Hi,
I found error when run Depreciation for period 9 FYI. I had run Planed posting period Depreciation (TCode: AFAB).  with fiscal year: 2010, posting period: 9, reason for posting run: Planed posting run. Select on Test Run. Then i found error message as below.
Documents manually posted within dep.doc.number range
         Message no. AA728
    Diagnosis
In the number range interval for the document type for posting
depreciation, a document  has been posted which was not created within
the framework of depreciation posting. The last document posted by
depreciation posting was assigned the number .
    Procedure
Contact your Systems Specialist. When changing the number range interval
for the document type in depreciation posting, you have to specify a new
interval in which no documents exist. Using organizational measures, you
can guarantee that there are no documents apart from those created by
depreciation posting in this number range.
Would you help me how to solve this error?
    Thank you in advance
    Best Regards
    Utarat.P

    Hi Utarat,
first question is: have you really manually posted a Documents within dep.doc.number range
If you post with RABUCH00, note 193984 could be relevant for you.
Check if the intervall in Table TABA don't fits with the Intervall in BKPF.
    Example:
    TABA
MANDT BUKRS  AFBLGJ AFBLPE AFBANZ BLNRF      BLNRT      XBUKZ
    100   XXXX   2010   004    01     4200000013 4200000016 X
    100   XXXX   2010   005    01     4200000017 4200000020 X
    100   XXXX   2010   006    01     4200000021 4200000024
On the other Hand In Table BKPF (or Tr. FB03) you can see that 4200000037 already
    exits.
BUKRS  BELNR      GJAHR BLART BUDAT      CPUDT      CPUTM    TCODE
    XXXX   4200000024 2010  YY    30.06.2010 06.07.2010 19:36:30 ABF1
    XXXX   4200000037 2010  YY    30.06.2010 06.07.2010 19:37:47 ABF1

We go live in clear new copany and uploaded all assets with data transfer 31.06.2009.
But when I tried to run depreciation  AFAB I got a message:
You can only post in new year after closing the previous year.
    Message no. AA687
    Diagnosis
You want to post in a new fiscal year. However, a posting must have been made in the last period in the previous fiscal year before you can do this.
I don't know than to do even though fiscal year is changed to 2010 and previous fiscal year 2009 is already closed
    Vs 603
    Help me please

    Hi Andrea,
Yes of course you can reverse the depreciation posted, please understand how system behaves.
...system calculates the depreciation to be posted according to the depreciation keys and depreciation start date. and shows as an accumulated depreciation.
...while posting depreciation values gets posted to our depreciation accounts from accumulated depreciation.
...If after this any change is made in the configuration such as AFAMA OAYR ect, the system by itself will adjust the values to be re posted and shows as a negative or positive accumulated depreciation according to the configuration impact.
.... to post correct values now, run AFAB in repeat run mode and post the values.
... The values will get corrected
    Thanks and Best Regards

  • Running depreciation

    Hi all,
At the time of running depreciation, i am getting the following error:
Posting run requested for future period; check your entry
    Please advice.
    Ashok
Moderator: Please, avoid asking basic questions

    Hi Ashok,
Check Table TABA, whats your last posted period for depreciation
If you are executing depreciation for last period + 1, then this error is not justified
If you are doing it for last period + 2, then its justified
and also I would like to refer you to the already implemented note 1153718 which states :
After you implement the changes, the system issues error message AA 697
"Posting run for future period requested (check entry)" immediately when
you use a fiscal year that is in the future. In principle, you can
customize this message. However, in this case, no settings are taken
into account; the system always issues an error message.
    Hope it will helps..

  • What Tools/Technologies Do You Use Today That You Didn't Use Last Year?

    Here we go again...
I'm starting work on another column for Oracle Magazine, and once again I would like you to share your insight and experience. The questions for this go-around:
What  tools/technologies are you working with this year that you were not working with last year? Why?
What tools/technologies are you working with this year that that you expect to start phasing out in the next year?
As before, I'm looking for interesting responses that I can quote in the magazine article. All quoted material will be fully attributed -- that means you will be indentified by name, role, and employer. If you prefer to remain anonymous, no problem.
My deadline for this is fast approaching, so if you want to be quoted in the magazine I need your response by Monday April 20. If you have any questions for me on this process, please post a reply.
    Thanks!

How has your work as a software architect or developer changed in the past year?
There are always new technologies popping up in IT and some of them vanish quietly. That's IT. And that's the difference between an real architect and a software architect (buildings and bridges are built based on the same principles of structural analysis as hundreds of years ago).
Last year Docker appeared on the stage. As A. Cockroft put it, Docker wasn't on anyones roadmap for 2014 - its on everyones roadmap for 2015.
Obviously as an Oracle ACE Director I focus on new technologies in the cloud and middleware space, including open source projects.
How have you adjusted to that change? Was the adjustment difficult?
Well, my trick is to explore technologies early and then decide for myself if it's more marketing or worth to evangelize it. Obviously this is time consuming.
I presented the possibility to run WebLogic on Docker and also to run Docker containers in public clouds already at Oracle Open World 2014. At that time only 2% of the audience was aware of Docker! During a 1 day cloud workshop at the German Oracle User Group Meeting a month later in Germany I did a hands-on demo.
Today everybody is crazy about Docker. It's certainly a hype and it nicely goes with the micro services trend. Unfortunately this also means that people forget about open technical issues.
Now Oracle officially certified WebLogic to run on Docker! That is really cool. Interestingly this is based on the work that Bruno Borges from Oracle did and open sourced on github.
How might your work change over the next year?
Myself, I expect to focus more on container orchestration, PaaS, and on big data (machine learning will be a part of it). Again there are dozens of open source projects in this area yet Oracle is surprisingly well integrated with its own big data product pipeline.
Also I am expecting verbal fights with those who rejected SOA some 5 years ago but now believe that microservices are the silver bullet.
Same as with those who believe that they do devops but they actually don't.
