Format phone numbers

I upgraded my 3G to a 4S. When all my contacts were imported into my new phone, I noticed that the phone numbers were not formatted properly, they looked like one big number, eg. "1231234567".  Is there a way to format all of my numbers properly (eg. 1 (123) 123-4567) without having to type them in again? Is this a bug?

You can try regular expressions if you have Oracle 10
SQL> l
  1   with t as (
2     select 1234567890 as pnum from dual)
  3  select pnum,
  4     regexp_replace(pnum, '^\(?([[:digit:]]{3})\)?[- .]?([[:digit:]]{3})[- .]?([[:digit:]]{4})$', '(\1) \2-\3') "w digit",
  5     regexp_replace(pnum, '^\(?(\d{3})\)?[- .]?(\d{3})[- .]?(\d{4})$', '(\1) \2-\3') "with \d"
  6* from t
10.2.0.2
SQL> /
      PNUM
w digit
with \d
1234567890
(123) 456-7890
(123) 456-7890
1 row selected.

That is correct is doesn't. Standardized formatting of phone numbers in the iOS app is more important because it supports contact from a variety of locations (gmail, hotmail, etc.). iCloud doesn't (not directly).

  • How does one format "phone numbers" using "Numbers"?

Want all phone numbers to format as (555) 555 5555
    How is this done?

    Hi Thomas,
The old Numbers will be on your computer unless you deleted it. Look in a folder called iWork '09 inside your Applications folder. Launch Numbers 2 (Numbers '09) and do what you used to do to create a Custom Cell Format. For example, you might want a nine-digit phone number to appear as (123) 456 789.
Save that document. To protect it from Numbers 3.0, make a copy of that document with a different name. Ensure that both your original Phone Number documents are closed (to protect them from that bully Numbers 3.0). Then Open the copy in Numbers 3.0. The custom format will be listed in Format Inspector > Cell > Data Format
Type a nine-digit number into any cell and format the cell with Format Inspector > Cell > Data Format > Phone Numbers.
Note: copying a cell with Custom Format in Numbers 2 and then pasting into Numbers 3 does not work. The pasted cell ends up as Text, and the Custom Format is not added to the Data Format list.
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • Does not format phone numbers

The phone numbers look fine with my Outlook. After syncing contacts using Itunes 12, the phone number format changed (without syncing the spaces and dashes). Anyone has clues to this? It works fine before I updated my Itunes.

I think you will have to build a custom format. In the prefs, click the disclosure triangle button, pick a starting point, and add all the formats you want.
I have a couple of British phone numbers in my book, rest US, and any item I pick does not affect them as they have +44. So...
You need to make a custom list of formats based on the country code and number of digits. I think your list might be long. Ex:
    (+32) ### ### ###
    (+32) #### ### ###
    (+44) ##### ### ###
    (+1) ### ###-####

  • Formatting Phone Numbers

I'm using Numbers for a basic database and need to add phone numbers in a column.  Is there a way I can just type in the numbers and format the column to either add brackets () around the area code or at least hyphens or spaces where they should be.  eg. (123) 456-7890 or 123-456-7890.  I tried using "Create Custom Cell Format" but that doesn't seem to work for this.

you can create a custom formatter by selecting the cell(s) then opening the Cell Inspector and selecting "Custom" from the "cell Format" menu.
This allows you to create a new, named formatter (I suggest Phone Number):
    I hope this helps

  • Contacts  - Formatting Phone Numbers

Can I turn off the automatic "formatting" of phone numbers in Contacts?
Many of my contacts are in other countries and I would like to use the format
that is common to each country. Easier to remember, etc!

Try adding a + in front of the country code.

  • Phone numbers formatting not working

    Hello,
I just got a new iMac with Snow Leopard and I've been setting up my address book. I got my old address book backed up and imported it into the new one. Now I'm trying to format phone numbers in preferences but something is wrong. First the drop down menu for 'Formats:' only has 'Custom...' as an option. Second, I created my first format (#### ### ###) and it works, but when I try to create a second one it refuses, no matter what the format is...
(I'm trying to create a UK phone numbers format and a Colombian one)
    What's going on?

    Hi Ralph,
Many thanks for responding. I discovered embarrasingly (and surprisingly) that I had accidently flipped the Privacey switch on the side to silent. That issue is now sorted. I've also worked out how to get only unread emails to show as unread and am gradually working through the other issues. It is such a shame that IOS7 has changed the interface appearance so much though-It really does look like it's been re-styled for (or possibly by ) Children.
Thanks for the link. I am actually having a whole Software sort out day today(interesting use of Holiday )
    Thanks once again,
    Mike

  • Formatting phone number: how to get rid of (...)?

I live in Romania, and Contacts incorrectly formats phone numbers of the type xxxx xxx xxx (10 digit, the national standard, out of which the first is zero) into (xxxx) xxx xxx, i.e. inserting brackets before the first and after the 4th digit respectively. This is wrong. The bug is seemingly banal, yet it has bad consequences: if phone numbers are exported to Android, some Android devices, not all, alas, cannot dial such numbers and the process is stopped. Well, this may be a bug in Android, nevertheless the problem exists.
A workaround is to choose another country as standard, e.g. Czech Republic. It works, but only for numbers added from that/this moment on, it does not remove (...) from the existing numbers.
Q: how can I remove those stupid brackets (....) from the existing phone numbers? I need a global solution, a script or something...
I reported the issue to Cupertino but they seem to be extremely slow, I do not understand why. Those brackets are incorrectly inserted, the national standards specifies a 10-digit number, out of which the first is zero, which is removed in case of international calls, and the prefix is added.

Self answer: I changed country at hazard to Czech Republic, and all the phone numbers have been meanwhile changed from the wrong format (xxxx) xxx xxx to the correct format 0 xxx xxx xxx
    Praise be to hazard settings.
P.S. Yes, I marked myself with a green bingo.

  • I am setting up a new 5c - but all the phone numbers in VM are written in the international format.  How can I change them to read like a US phone number.

Please tell me how I can change the format of the telephone numbers on my visual VM.  The numbers are reading like international numbers (with a + at the beginning) rather than the format of the US phone numbers.

    Hi AntonionC:
Thanks so much for trying to help me on this problem.  I have done what you suggested - don't know why I hadn't seen that before.  I had been looking through the settings for every possibility.
I am not yet sure if it did the trick because I haven't had anyone call and leave a message.  I tried calling myself from the home land line; but because my home number is in my contacts it just listed "Home" as the caller and didn't write out the number.  So I must get some friend to call me and leave a message.  But I think it may have worked because now it lists the caller - "Home" - whereas on the 4 other numbers that were transferred from my old phone it only listed the numbers in Int'l format.
I really do appreciate your taking time to respond to my question.  As soon as I find out if it's the ultimate cure, I will let you know.

  • My contact phone numbers are no longer formatted and texts come from numbers instead of people.  What gives?

All of a sudden all of my contacts as displayed on my iPhone have lost their formatting.  So the numbers all read as 1234567890 instead of (123) 456-7890.  And, what's worse, is when I go to the texting app, all of my texts are still there, but instead of showing me the contact name, all I see are the unformatted phone numbers of where they came from.
Any ideas on why?  It's a Verizon iPhone 4S.  This lack of formatting is not showing up on my Mac nor my iPad.  Would a re-sync fix this?  I'd hate to have a re-sync screw up the info on my computer and pad, though...
    Rock

I too am having the same problem, and use the *228 then killing all my open apps solution to bring my numbers back to the correct format.  However, as just a one time fix, I keep on getting the same problem again after a few weeks, and last week, after a few days of doing the *228 fix.  Does anyone know what is causing this problem on Verizon iPhones?  As a point of information, I was previously on AT&T with my iPhones until my wife transferrred me over to Verizon (on her business account because she wanted to surprise me with a new iPhone 4S).

  • How do I get my contact phone numbers to format properly?

I just upgraded to an iPhone 4S on Verizon.  The majority of my contact phone numbers are now in the format: 1234567890.  On my old iPhone 4 (AT&T) they were displayed as (123) 456-7890.
    This is causing several problems.
When I try to dial from contacts, Verizon keeps insisting the numbers are international, and I don't have international service.
When a call from a contact comes in, it shows the number, not the name (it cannot correlate the caller ID number with the name in my contact list).  The same with text messages.
I cannot get Siri to dial any of these contacts.
I am syncing via iCloud, and was on my last phone.  In Address Book on my Macintosh the numbers are formatted properly, and show as US numbers.
I've searched through settings, but I don't see any way to change how Contacts on the iPhone displays numbers.
Is there some way to convince my phone that these are US numbers, format them correctly, and stop giving me trouble dialing them please?

I had this problem also and did the same thing. I dialed *228, chose option 1 and it worked. My question is that my phone, which is a 4S and on Verizon, is the only iPhone I've ever had. The format of my numbers just changed. I didn't realize it until I noticed that I was getting calls from people on my contact list and the number, not the name, was coming up. Is there a reason that this happened? I'd like to know in case it was something I did so I can be sure not to do it again.

  • IE 11 with CRM 2011 Lead phone numbers no longer format

We are experiencing some form issues after we moved to IE11. The lead phone numbers no longer format properly and the Opportunity Estimated Revenue no longer calculates. Has anyone else had any issues with IE11 and some javascript not working correctly?
This is actually a bigger issue then we first thought. We have also noticed that the administrative tools for workflows do not work correctly and that the ability to change columns in views no longer work as expected. Once I downgraded from IE11 back to
IE9. All is working as expected again.

rollup installed? because IE11 is compatible from rollup 17.
the javascript use only supported code? you can share the script if you want

  • Phone numbers not properly formatted

I just upgraded to the 4S and most of my phone numbers can't be dialed by SIRI because they are not properly formatted. The numbers that can be dialed are of the form +1-617-nnn-nnnn.  The numbers that cannot be dialed are of the form nnnnnnnnnn.  I have hundreds of numbers in this format.  Any ideas?

Have you tried Settings > General > International to make sure your phone is not set to some incorrect region which might give it trouble interpreting the numbers?

  • How to change format of phone numbers in PowerShell?

We need to append the area code and hyphen in front of the office phone number field in their domain user account for all our users that have office phones now that we are changing from 7 digit numbers to 10 digit numbers.
I found a script that finds and edits phone numbers, but the author chose a different way to format the numbers.
This is the part of the script I need to change:
    # Format number as xxx xx xx xxx.
            $Phone = '{0}
    {1} {2} {3}' -f$Phone.Substring(0,3),$Phone.Substring(3,2),$Phone.Substring(5,2),$Phone.Substring(7,3)
I'm trying to figure out how to edit that so that it formats it as xxx-xxx-xxxx
(3 digit area code, hyphen, 3 digit prefix, hyphen, four digit number) instead of xxx xx xx xxx.
Can someone show how to rewrite this section?

    The modified script:
    # This format number as xxx-xxx-xxxx.
    $Phone = '{0}-{1}-{2}' -f $Phone.Substring(0,3),$Phone.Substring(3,3),$Phone.Substring(6,4)
    Hope this helps.
