Formatting info populated from database at initialize
I am currently working on a project that aims to automatically populate a pdf document with data from a database; the data itself will be changed and reviewed by different departments before being put into one, large catalog(pdf) via the database. I have used LiveCycle Designer to prototype a sample document, using Stefan Cameron's Displaying All Records from an ODBC Data Connection article as a guide for the script, but i have only been successful in creating one, long column of populated data. What I am looking for is a way to create two columns of automatically populated data on the same page. I have had some success using multiple tables in testing, but my actual data tables are hugely collaborative, so a solution that does not involve a major overhaul of them is desirable. I would appreciate any help with scripting or any other ideas that might make this work. Thanks!
I'm pretty sure if you set the source to DATABASE COLUMN and you are not using the built in Automated Row Fetch (ARF), that any computation/process you do will be wiped out. What if you changed the source to Static Type and Only When Null? Does it get populated?

I´ve managed to import it to excel and get it a bit less overwhelming. The idea Im working on right now is to try and format it in excel and then import to indesign and link the styles.

//Oscar NorlingNormally you can export data from a data base and transform it, like adding or trunceting text elements, formatting numbers, time and day and such things are best done upon file export from FileMaker or Access or whatever you use.
Another possibility is exporting from a DB as XML. For InDesign you will need to transform that information with a XLST rule and you can import that transformed XML file into InDesign and tag XML tags to text styles in InDesign. If you cannot handle the export from the DB of the client I would choose this way.
If you are the owner of the DB or at least have direct access to it you could consider the use of a special plugin which connects InDesign to the DB. With this solution you could rewrite changes from InDesign to the DB. This could be useful as you detect errors or you can make changes in the document and you want to repair that information in the DB for later use. -
Populating fields from database values
I have a page being populated from database values. I used the Application Builder Wizard to create the application. One of the fields is displaying on the report, but when I click edit, the value is not there. The field is defined as a float and being displayed as a text item. I have created this Application twice with the same results.
Any ideas?

I turned on the debug, to ensure the automatic fetch
process it on and it is. The edit page has 7
fields, all are being populated except for this one.
I have confirmed it is using the correct database
column and it is replacing the existing value the
same as the other fields.
Any other ideas to what could be going on?You can see each page item assignment in the debug output. Look there to see where the page item is being set, and potentially unset I suppose. The thing to look for here might be page processes that might be interacting with that item.
You could also simply drop the problematic page item and recreate it to see if you can make the value stick.

Populate List from Database (Very Strange Behaviour)
Dear Fellows,
I have developed a from which has two lists One for Major (say) and Other for Minor (say), thesr minors are based on the value of Major.
Now I have developed this system on Windows XP Professional, Developer/2000 6i and Oracle 8i (release 8.1.7).
Major list is populated from database and it shows all major values now using 'when_list_change' trigger the minor list is populated from the database based on the value of major list. Interestingly enough it is working fine without any problem.
Now I have deployed the software to Windows 2000 Professional/Server (tried on both), Developer/2000 6i and Oracle 8.0.5, but strangly the lists are not working now. First list (major) is still working but the other dependent lists are not working.
Another strange thing is that it populate the second list for one particular value (only at times).
The logic is that I have used a program unit to which i am passing 'list element' and 'query' and call it for each list in the when-list-change trigge.
Now its a very strange behaviour, I don't know what to do?

To display them you would link the topics into a master list,

filter on the content table.

I'm really new to this so pardon my ignorance on the following.
At my company, we have developed a web site using Oracle
Application Server using PL*SQL cartridge, i.e. all the
rendering of forms and processing of data are done using PL*Sql
commands.
I have a list field where I'd like the values populated from the
database using a value specified by a user in another field.
Example:
State ____ City ____________________
When user selects a state, I'd like to be able to dynamically
populate the city field with values from the database.
Does anyone have an example of how to do this? I'm guessing it
can be done using thin JDBC.
Any help would be appreciated.

so in the processRequest itself i call invokeMethod and append the whereclause in the voImpl .....if a do a System.out.println("Trailing List VO ::ROW COUNT IS : "+getRowCount()); immediately after executeQuery it returns 0 ...
but some how on the page i get to see some records in the list....

Removing Formatting info from a text var
I have an input text box for the user to input a name. This box is linked to the variable "name". However when I call up this variable later (by linking "name" to dynamic textboxes), the size color etc. of the font are carried over from the input text box. How would I go about removing this formatting info, so the variable is simply set to the letters typed in by the user?
thanksI suggest getting rid of the use of the variable assignment of the textfield altogether and just assign an instance name to the textfield and acquire the text from the textfield using the "text" property. As you've already seen in one respect, using the var aspect of textfields can be problematic. I stopped using it many years ago, but not due to the problems you are having.

Populating JSF ListBox from DataBase

im new to JSF and i have a problem populating Listboxes with database values.
i have 3 listboxes and the 3 are populated from tables in my database.
I would like to filter the returned(from database) values in the 2nd listbox depending on the value selected in the 1st listox.
I dont know how to do this.

1. Have the list box show values from a database table.
2. Have the user make selections. Should the user return to that page later in the session, have the previous selection still selected.
Normally, you would bind the listbox to the database table, as is shown in http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/learning/tutorials/2/databoundcomponents.html. The only reason I can think of for not binding directly to the database table is if there is a possiblity that the database table can change (additions, updates, deletes) during the user's session.
Are you able to emulate the above tutorial using the Postgress database? It might be good to pinpoint whether the problem is with the Postgress driver or with the code you are writing.
By the way, if you use a data provider to access the database, as shown in the tutorial, here is how you iterate through the data

i had returned Object.class in the getColumnClass() method. But then i
got NullPointerException at getRowCount() method. i could understand that the
main problem is in data[][] object. In all the methods its returning null values as it is so declared outside the construtor. But if i declare the object inside the constructor, then the methods could not recognize the object. it seems i cant do the either ways. hope u understood the problem.

I am trying to configure Planning and getting the following error message at instance configuration step:

We looked at PlanningSystemDB.properties, changes server name to its ip, reinstalled planning, made sure both auth methods are selected (sql server and windows), created new relational repository.. still the same error.

Thanks for any help.After spending 2+ hrs with Hyperion Support nothing got resolved.. Just to give more background on this problem, we originally reconfigured all Hyperion components to use different SQL server, that is when the problem started happening as soon as we got to Planning Instance Configuration. Could this be the situations when old server name is still somewhere in the system?.. Could this be Shared Services problem.
