Forms & Reports standalone 10.1.2.0.2: clustering possible

Hello group,
if I understand Oracle's documentation correctly, a farm (either file- or database based) is needed to create clustered Forms&Reports instances. Just to be sure, could somebody please confirm this? Or may it be possible to create a cluster with to Forms&Reports standalone instances?
Thanks in advance for any input,
Martin

Hi,
we have 3 machine configures with OC4J clustering. All clients accesses machine 1 and are redirected on machine 1, 2 or 3 according to the load.
I have a little how-to, but it is in french :
Les deux machines doivent se voir (ping).
Installer les services Forms et Reports sur les n machines.
Sur la machine 1, vérifier que OAS est en mode standalone :
     <oracle_home>/dcm/bin/dcmctl whichfarm
Doit répondre : Standalone instance
Création du repository pour l’infrastructure sur la machine 1 :
     <oracle_home>/dcm/bin/dcmctl getRepositoryid
Renvoie le nom du repository : vdn-frm6.rpn.ch:7100
Création d’une ferme sur la machine 1 :
     <oracle_home>/dcm/bin/dcmctl joinFarm –r vdn-frm6.rpn.ch:7100
Vérification de la création de la ferme :
     <oracle_home>/dcm/bin/dcmctl whichfarm
Doit, entre autres, donner le nom de la ferme (C:.oracle.orafrm.dcm.repository).
Vérifier que les n autres machines sont en mode standalone :
     <oracle_home>/dcm/bin/dcmctl whichfarm
Doit répondre : Standalone instance
Faire entrer les n autres machines dans la ferme. Sur chaque machine :
<oracle_home>/dcm/bin/dcmctl joinFarm –r vdn-frm6.rpn.ch:7100
La commande suivante permet, sur une machine, de voir si la ferme contient bien
toutes les machines ajoutées :
     <oracle_home>/dcm/bin/dcmctl listInstances
Modifier les fichiers <oracle_home>/forms90/server/forms90.conf sur toutes les machines
de la manière suivante (exemple pour deux machines) :
Remplacer ce qui suit :
    Oc4jMount /forms90 OC4J_BI_Forms
    Oc4jMount /forms90/f90servlet OC4J_BI_Forms
    Oc4jMount /forms90/f90servlet/* OC4J_BI_Forms
    Oc4jMount /forms90/l90servlet OC4J_BI_Forms
    Oc4jMount /forms90/l90servlet/* OC4J_BI_Forms
Par ceci :
    Oc4jMount /forms90 instance://INF1.vdn-frm8.rpn.ch:OC4J_BI_Forms,INF1.vdn-frm7.rpn.ch:OC4J_BI_Forms
    Oc4jMount /forms90/f90servlet instance://INF1.vdn-frm8.rpn.ch:OC4J_BI_Forms,INF1.vdn-frm7.rpn.ch:OC4J_BI_Forms

  • SSO and Forms/Reports Standalone Installation

    Hi,
we have different Oracle AS as forms/reports standalone installations in our company.
SSO_FORMSID and GROUP_DN were configured during the OracleAS installation. So you have during installation to define OID parameters (host, port). But that input is only required within complete application server installation.
In standalon installation you cannot define OID setting.
But in formsConfig.properties and formsweb.cfg placeholder for SSO are available.
So it is possible to use standalone forms with SSO. And how can I do that.
I understand that I have to define SSO_FORMSID for application server and same ID I have to register in OID. But how?1
    br Kay Basler

The SSO information is included in those files because they are standard files across all installation types. Without the full installation (Infrastructure and Middle Tier) you cannot use SSO.
Refer to the following for a list of all restrictions associated with the Forms/Reports Services installation:

  • Replacement for 10g Forms&Reports standalone server in 11g?

is there a replacement for the 10g Forms&Reports standalone server in 11g environment? Without the need to install Metadata Repository?
    thx, florian.

I believe you can install the equivalent in Forms 11g.
If you don't install Portal or Discoverer, then you are not required to install any Metadata repository.
    So the steps would be:
    1) Install Weblogic Server 11g
    2) Install Forms and Report Services 11g
How will you call reports from forms though?

  • Configuring Forms Reports Standalone 10.1.2.0.2

I'm having issues installing version 10.1.2.0.2 of the Forms and Reports Standalone. I currently have version 9.0.4 installed and am trying to install the newer version in a different directory, as I understand this is supported.
I was able to install it but am having issues with the configuration. First, I got a message that the OPMN process manager failed to start, I continued anyway. Then during the configuration portion, it failed to configure the WebCache.
Am I supposed to stop the processes for the 9.0.4 version before configuring this one? Should I de-install 10.1.2 and start over or leave it and try to reconfigure after stopping 9.0.4? I need both available as we're about to move to IE7 but I can't take ver. 9 down yet.

It may be that you have too little memory available during the install. Stop the database and any other memeory hogs, uninstall and delete everything in the 10.1.2 home and try to install again. You don't need WebCache for Forms so deselect that (unless you need it for other stuff). I suggest you call Oracle Customer Support and ask them to help you with this.

  • 10gR2 Forms & Reports Standalong - Installtion on Vista

    Hi
I am trying to install Oracle Application Server - Forms & Reports Standalone on a vista machine,
It is giving me error that
    OS version should be 5.1, 5.2 or 5.3. Actual 6.0 - Failed.
    Installation is not going through.
Is there any way to overcome this problem.

The previous version of Jinitiator probably doesn't suport sertificate that you are using.
Try to add certificate, or root certificate to certdb.txt file under C:\Program Files\Oracle\JInitiator 1.3.1.18\lib\security
    it should help

  • Clustering of Oracle 10gAS (Forms and Reports Standalone edition)

    Hi,
Does anyone have experience of clustering of Forms\Reports in 10g environement with Forms and Reports Standalone edition?
    Clustering at Application Server level?
Clustering at hardware level (load balancing \SAN for code storage)?
Clustering at OS level (MS Clustering)?
I am interested to know about others experiences\thoughts.
    John

Since 10g Version (904) you can only cluster the infra (Cold Failover Cluster and Active Failover Cluster), the HA for Forms and Reports is only by frontending with a Loadbalancer, and I'll sugesst not to use WebCache as this frontend because forms get a lot of problems.
    Regards.

  • 10g Forms and reports standalone - 64 bit software available?

    Hi All,
Is oracle application server 10g forms and reports standalone softaware available in 64-bit version?
Please provide the link to download thye same.
    Thanks,
    Anand.

1GB of RAM seems to work better. I just upgraded to 1GB from 512MB on a new ThinkPad running XP, 10g release 2 database, and 10.1.2 Application Server (Forms and Reports version). When I had 512, something broke and I wound up resetting the factory defaults using the IBM recovery tool. When I added the extra memory, everything went well. On the other hand, a four-year-old Dell desktop with 512MB works okay. Whatever.

  • Forms & Reports Services Standalone 10.1.2.0.2 in a Solaris 10 question.

    Hi everyone
I have installed Forms & Reports Services Standalone 10.1.2.0.2 in a Solaris 10, it is possible install in this sqlloder utility?
I need sqlloader access from a form by a 'host' command, is that possible?
I try this command from the form:
    HOST ('sqlldr user/pass@servicedb control=/home/oracle/controlfile.ctl');
but it didn't work... is there other way?
    Thanks.

You can easily create new report servers on a machine. However, to run several reports in parallel you do not need extra servers. You should configure your existing server with extra engines. This can easily be done by changing the maxEngine attribute of the engine section (engine with id=rwEng) in <reportserver>.conf file. You can also manipulate these values through Application server Control. Change the value to 2 and you can run two reports at the same time. depending on available memory you might consider a value of 4 or 8 as well.

  • High availability for AS forms & Reports

    Hi,
i like to know the best solution for high availability of Oracle Application Server(10g) Forms & Reports Services ...as load balancing is not done for forms & reports with the oracle high availability solution( i guess i am rite).any suggestions
    thanks
    mish

Well, install Oracle AS Forms and Reports on two different nodes and configure your Forms and Reports services on both of them. Use a virtual host configuration to load balance (by hardware load balancer) to both hosts which are the resources. Use the webcache (standalone or the one that came with the install) to map the virtual host to the resources on the two hosts. Use REPORTS_SERVERMAP to map the name of the 'cluster' reports server to the local reports server, ie REPORTS_SERVERMAP=app:app1 on node 1 and REPORTS_SERVERMAP=app:app2 on node 2. Use REPORTS_SERVERMAP=app:app1;appl:appl1 to add more applications/reportservers. Set REPORTS_SERVERMAP in O_H/forms/servers/default.env and the application env files and under O_H/reports/conf/rwservlet.properties.

  • 10g AS Forms & Reports Services 10.1.2.0.2

    Hi,
    Can anyone PLEASE help me!!!!!
I have just installed 10g AS Forms & Reports Services 10.1.2.0.2. I have got the forms to work without any problem.
How on earth does the Reports Server start?
I have read that it is an inprocess server in that when I invoke the report from the browser the server should start. This does not work.
I can go to command prompt and start a standalone server (rwserver =MyRepSrv). But my report does not run on this server either.
However, if I try and install this server as a service (rwserver -install server=.....) a pop-up box tells me to consult my documentation!!!
    When I try... http://localhost/reports/rwservlet/getserverinfo? i get....
rep-51002: Bind to report server rep_localhost_bs_appsrv failed
My default reports server on install was rep_localhost_bs_appsrv. This is evident in rwservlet.properties , which I have not modified.
Ultimately I want to launch my Report from my Form. I have the Form working but when I try to launch my Report from my Form I get....
FRM-41213-Unable to connect to report server rep_localhost_bs_appsrv
    Someone please help!
    Thanks in advance.

    hello,
all indications point to the fact that your reports server either does not start up or there is some networking issue that prevents the servlet from communicating with the server.
here are a couple of pointers:
    a) after you start up your application server open a web browser and goto http://.../reports/rwservlet/showjobs
this should show you the server queue table. if you get the bind error, then your server has not startet correctly. then i would go into $OH/reports/conf and edit the server config file. check for the <trace .../> element and make sure it is not commented out. then restart the server and try again. now you will find a bunch of trace files in the log directory. they might give you a hint as to what is wrong.
    b) if your machine setup uses multiple network cards and/or you are using software VPN (e.g. cisco) and/or you have VMware installed on your machine, switch to naming service for the server (see the reports documnetation for futher details)
in some instances, we have seen issues when multiple NICs (actual physical NICs and/or software NICs, such created by VPN software or VMware) were present on certain machiens. in these cases the corba stack potentially binds to different NICs and the communication from the servlet actually goes out a different NIC than the server binds to. switching to the naming service should help.
bottom line, things should work out of the box, the way you expect them to work, but without knowing any furhter details about your machine or trace information from the server it's hard to diagnose what might be wrong exactly. i would strongly suggest, if the problem persists, to contact oracle support services. they can diagnose and trouble shoot the problem much easier than we can do here at the forum.
    thanks,
    ph.

  • OracleXE and Oracle10gAS Forms-Reports Services

    Hello,
    Can they co-exist in a testing - development environment of Forms-Reports 10g Application ?
Are there other alternatives of prototyping (without having to think about licensing costs) a Forms-Reports app and make a short demonstration to the client side ?
    Thank you in advnace.
    Pantelis
PS. When the Application Server 10g r. 10.1.3 will include the Forms-reports services add-in and the Portal ?

FRS is an installation option under Application Server (Business Intelligence). In a full blown installation (which includes more advanced features, but none specific to how Forms work), there are two components: an infrastructure and the application server (that name gets used more than one way, sometimes context matters).
For a simpler, Forms and Reports only version of this, several years ago (probably from all the howls of complaints regarding how poorly iAS was first deployed/developed) Oracle came out with a standalone version of Forms and Reports. It still required the Enterprise Edition licensing under iAS, but at least it precluded the necessity of having the other component (the infrastructure) installed.
Once FRS is installed, it can be managed via an Enterprise Manager type of Web app (it has the same look and feel of other Web-based controllers of Oracle apps such as Database Control and Grid Control).
So, if all you need is Forms and Reports, no bells and whistles, use the FRS version. FRS is fairly reliable in terms of staying up, you'll probably have more issues with keeping the database up as much as FRS is.

  • PSP Vs Oracle 9iAS Form/Report Services

    Hi All,
what is the difference in using the PSP and 9iAS Report/Form services, Can i use Oracle Form/Report Services in place of PSP, if so how and if not what i have to check for the other alternatives in ORacle for report/form designing as my project has 1000+ reports.

If the two AS installs are fresh, I suggest that you wipe (uninstall) them both and re-install AS either with BI Forms option or the standalone F & R variant.
Be sure to read the accompanying Installation Guide thoroughly before installing.

OC4J Standalone is for use by development and small-medium scale production deployments. Specifically, OC4J Standalone supports HTTP and HTTPS natively without the use of Oracle HTTP Server. It does not have support for load balancing, clustering, or management through Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g. To use those features, customers must install one of the Oracle Application Server installation types, such as J2EE + WebCache. The standalone version is supported in a single instance, single JVM, and single machine configuration.
