FrameMaker document link to Robohelp

hi,
I have created a robohelp project and also a document in FrameMaker. When i tried to link the FrameMaker document through Robohelp, 'link-> FrameMaker' option is disabled, but it allows me to link a word document. I'm using the trail version of Robohelp9 and FrameMaker10. Is it because of compatibilty issue??

Did you installed these FrameMaker and RoboHelp build from tech com suite DVD or from Individual product DVDs ?
If these prodcuts are not installed from suite DVD they will not show the suite features even in the trial mode!
Hope this asnwers your query

  • Changing Linked FrameMaker Document File Path

I have moved my FrameMaker document to a new directory. Can I update the file path to the document so that the files are updated correctly? I have checked the property settings for the linked project and it appears that I cannot change the file path. Is my only option to link to the file in the new directory and remove the existing project? If so, will that destroy my existing TOC?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately, before posting my question this morning I tried the route you suggested and the result was repeated crashes and error messages. Here is what I did:
I removed the original linked FrameMaker file.
I restored the links to point to the new file.
This resulted in the aforementioned behavior.  I did not try updating the indvidual chapters  - the RoboHelp appplication kept flashing and crashing.
For the record, I am using the latest version of RoboHelp 8 and FrameMaker 9. They are both part of TCS 1.3.
I will try the update again and will let you know if it is successful. Thank you again for the suggestions.

  • Framemaker link to Robohelp 8 generates umlaut in file names - How to remove?

I'm linking translated German Framemaker files into Robohelp.
The heading 1 and heading 2 topics in my Framemaker source files often contain umlauts in the words/phrases.
Unfortunately, when linking to Robohelp 8, the umlauts appear in the topic file names.
And the umlauts are not allowed characters in file names.
How do I remove the umlauts and yet keep a single source construction to my Framemaker-Robohelp project?
(To remove them for the source files would of course be tedious and render the words incorrect.)
(To somehow strip them from the file names would create numerous broken links.)
Our manuals are translated into several languages. I really need the single source aspect of Frame to Robohelp 8 to work properly.
Any process/procedure would be very appreciated!

By default RoboHelp creates topic names based upon the paragraph(heading 1, heading 2 etc.) text on which the FrameMaker document is split. However, this setting can be manipulating the "Topic Name Pattern" option.
To access this setting please follow the following steps.
    1. Click File->Project Settings menu to open the "Project Settings" dailog.
    2. Go to "Import" tab.
    3. Click "Edit" button for FrameMaker conversion settings.
    4. Click "Other Settings" on the left tree.
    5. On the right you can set the "Topic Name Pattern" settings.
This field allows you to define the pattern based upon which you can generate topic names. One can also insert some specific text to be included in the topic names.

  • File Link Framemaker Document option not appearing

Edition: Technical Communication Suite 2.5 (Framemaker 9.0.4 & RoboHelp HTML 8.0.2)
    Hi all,
One of our new tech writers recently installed the Technical Communication Suite v2.5. I was going to show her our process for linking a Framemaker document to a new project, but when she tried to link to a book the only option she saw was to link a Word document.
She used the same install CDs as the rest of our team, then fully upgraded to Framemaker 9.0.4, and RoboHelp 8.0.2. The rest of the team sees the Link > Framemaker Document option.
I have had her restart her computer after installation. Then uninstall Framemaker and Robohelp, and finally reinstall Framemaker and Robohelp. No luck. I have seen other forum topics where the FM Document option is unavailable (grayed out), but nothing about it not appearing at all.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

Did she have either FM9 or RH8 installed as point products? If so, you probably need to fully uninstall and then reinstall

  • RoboHelp does not recognize FrameMaker document

I'm attempting to import a FrameMaker (version 8.0p266) document into RoboHelp HTML (version 7.00.145) and the following message appears:
"Cannot import (filename). Make sure this is a valid FrameMaker document."
It is a valid FrameMaker document that I have been working on in FrameMaker. It has quite a few embedded graphics and conditional text, so the document size is rather large (108, 598 KB), but other than that, there's nothing that I could see that would cause the import to fail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Error trying to import FrameMaker documents into RoboHelp 8

Using FrameMaker 9 and RoboHelp 8.0.0.203 (Adobe Technical Communication Suite 2) on Microsoft Vista (w/SP2) as administrator user. I get error when attempt to import a very simple FrameMaker 9 document (not book) into a RoboHelp 8 project. Attempted import using menu command File > Import > FrameMaker Document. Error (in dialog box with "RHUtils" as title) is:
Unable to install RoboHelp plugin for FrameMaker.
Please close FrameMaker and try again.
Verified with Windows Task Manager that FrameMaker is not running. Even get error when I reboot computer and RoboHelp is the only application started. Error occurs for all FrameMaker documents. Simplest test was a FrameMaker document with one heading and one body paragraph.
Searched knowledge base and found article rb_4416 ("Importing FrameMaker Files"), which advises that best way to import FrameMaker documents is to convert them to Microsoft Word format and import those files (!?). The article does not indicate which RoboHelp versions it applies to.

Thanks. It was a new project. I only recently installed RoboHelp 8 and am in the process of familiarizing myself with the new (for me) version. So it was not a production project that was involved. But it is a feature I can see using.
I will next contact Adobe technical support on this issue.

  • Glossary from FrameMaker not appearing in RoboHelp output

We are using FrameMaker 10 and RoboHelp 9.
We have user guides in FrameMaker that we want to publish to WebHelp from within FrameMaker.  The user guides in FrameMaker all have a glossary in its own chapter at the end of the guide.
In FrameMaker, with the user guide book file open/selected, we select File > Publish.
    The Publish Settings window appears.
We select WebHelp, and specify an ISF file that breaks chapters down into individual HTML files by heading level, then click Publish.
RoboHelp opens and publishes the content from the user guide to WebHelp, then RoboHelp closes.
We navigate to the folder that contains the WebHelp files, and launch it.
There is a glossary node at the bottom of the TOC in the WebHelp, but it is always empty.
Can someone please explain how to get RoboHelp to include the glossary content from the Glossary chapter in the user guide when it publishes from FrameMaker to WebHelp?  We were hoping that the handoff from FM to RH was seamless, but apparently it is not.
    Thank you!
    Tim

    Hi Tim –
I am using a different process for single-sourcing our documentation in the TCS – FrameMaker 10 and Robohelp 9. I am creating the files in FrameMaker as book files, with TOCs, Glossaries, and Indexes. I am also conditionalizing some text for online and some for print. However, my workflow, based on a lot of research and watching tutorials, is to link the FrameMaker files in a RH9 project. Then, I use Robohelp to apply the .isf file settings, a FrameMaker template to use for conversion of things like cross-reference formats, a RH master page for the online help, the customized Webhelp skin I want to use, and to do any other small tweaks as necessary since the conversion process is about 90% seamless but not perfect.
I found that when linking the files (rather than importing, which is a static process), I also get “empty” default TOCs, Glossaries, and Indexes. The solution that I found is:
    1.       After generating html topics from my linked FramMaker book files, I right-click on the book file in the Project Manager pod and select Properties.
    2.       On the Contents tab of the “FrameMaker Document Settings” panel, I check all 3 boxes to “convert FrameMaker” TOC, Glossary, and Index files.  For the TOC, I navigate to the FrameMaker TOC file of my book.
    3.       I select the radio buttons to “Create new associated” TOC, Glossary, and Index and RH insists I name them, so I name them Contents, Glossary, and Index.
    4.       Then, click OK to close this window.
    5.       Back to the Project Manager pod, I right-click my new TOC, Glossary, and Index files (one at a time) and select the option to set these as the Default ones.
    6.       I then have the option to right-click and delete the old (empty) ones (for simplicity’s sake). Everything is then right with my help files.
Yes, this is a lot of steps. It’s the only workflow I’ve found that produces the result I want (Webhelp versions of my FrameMaker generated files that contain all entries at the correct levels, and are automated). FWIW, I couldn’t find documentation on this process anywhere. I found it through trial and error and hair-pulling :o)

  • Recommended tool for technical illustrations to be embedded in FrameMaker document?

I'm new to Framemaker and don't know, if this is the right tool for me.
I have written a technical document of about 500 pages using MS-Word. Now I want to figure out, if FrameMaker would be a good alternative. I think it could be.
But one of my needs is to be able to create technical illustrations (diagrams with shapes with text and arrows, lines and arrows linked to the shapes when repositioned).
In my opinion the capabilities of FrameMaker to create such illustrations are very limited.
Currently I create the illustrations using MS-Word-2010. I think concerning illustrations MS-Word is more capable than FrameMaker.
On the other hand the capabilities of Adobe Illustrator are plenty too much for me.
Can you recommend some external tool for creating illustrations, which can be easily integrated into a FrameMaker document?
    Regards,
    Martin

Import the ai file directly into the FrameMaker doc.
Select where you want the illustration to be located (use the smart select tool and click on the area in your text flow)
    File>Import>File
If you want to have the illustration in the document to automatically update when the drawing changes, select Import By Reference.
Once imported you have the option of positioning where you want it to be located relative to the text.
Right click the anchored frame, select Anchored Frame
Select the Anchoring Position, Alignment, etc.
Adobe Illustrator is all you need to create quality Technical Illustrations.

  • Word document links not converting to WebHelp

I have an Word 2007 document that contains hyperlinks to send
an email and to jump to another place in the same document. I
imported the document into my RoboHelp project and all looks fine.
But when I create the WebHelp the links do not work. This is my
first really using RoboHelp. I had previously did "Save As..html"
in Word and then used HTML Workshop to create chm files. The links
    in there work fine.

No, creating a chm does not work either. It seems whatever I
mark using "Hyperlink" in Word does not convert over to the
appropriate HTML tags. I looked at the html source and it basically
just has font info (underline, etc) - no link info.

  • Add new document link not working in upgraded sharepoint 2013?

    Hello there,
Upgraded SharePoint team sites from 2010 to 2013. add new document link not working for shared document in upgraded sharepoint 2013?. it is specially not working on machine where Office web apps set up with this sharePoint server and it
is working fine with environment  Office web apps not configured with Sharepoint.
Looking resoluion /suggestion, thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Sushil

    Hi  Sushil,
According to your description, my understanding is that the add new document link was not working on machine where Office web apps set up with this SharePoint server after you upgraded SharePoint team sites
    from 2010 to 2013.
For your issue, it can be caused by integrating Office Web Apps with upgraded SharePoint Site.
Firstly please make sure claims-based authentication is used by the SharePoint web application that is used to create the new document. Only web applications that use claims-based authentication can open
files in Office Web Apps. To determine the authentication provider for a web application, follow these steps:
1.In SharePoint 2013 Central Administration, click Manage web applications.
2.Select the web application that you want to check, and click Authentication Providers on the ribbon.
The authentication provider must be displayed as Claims Based Authentication for Office Web Apps to work correctly with the web application. To resolve this issue, you can delete the web application and recreate
it using claims-based authentication, or you can change the authentication method of the web application.
Secondly, make sure the WOPI zones match on the SharePoint 2013 and the Office Web Apps Server farm.
To do this, run the following command on the SharePoint Server:
    Get-SPWopiZone
The result will be one of the following:.
    internal-https
    internal-http
    external-https
    external-http
Next, run the following command on the SharePoint Server.
    Get-SPWOPIBinding
In the output, look for WopiZone: zone. If the results from Get-SPWopiZone don’t match the zone that is returned by Get-SPWOPIBinding, run the Set-SPWOPIZone -Zone cmdlet on the SharePoint Server to change
the WOPI zone to match the result from Get-SPWOPIBinding.
If not work, you can try to disconnect SharePoint 2013 from Office Web Apps Server and re-configure Office Web Apps for SharePoint 2013.

  • Open Document Link on PO Approval WF

In the PO Approval Workflow, if you have the proper responsibility, an "open document" link is displayed that, when clicked, takes the user to a screen entitled "Notifications to Releases".
This function is available to our Purchasing Super User responsibility but is not available for the Purchasing Approver responsibility. I'm trying to change that.
Using help, I determined that the form associated with "Notifications to Releases" is POXPOERL. That form is assocated with the following functions and menus:
    FORM_NAME     FUNCTION_NAME     MENU_NAME
    POXPOERL     PO_POXPOERL     CHV_CHVSSWKB_FUNCTIONS
    POXPOERL     PO_POXPOERL     PO_POXSTNOT_FUNCTIONS
    POXPOERL     PO_POXPOERL     PO_POXPOVPO_FUNCTIONS
    POXPOERL     PO_POXPOERL     PO_PURCHASE_ORDERS_GUI
    POXPOERL     PO_POXPOERL     POS_INTERNAL_HP_MENU
    POXPOERL     PO_POXPPOERL_VIEW     PO_POXSTNOT_FUNCTIONS
    POXPOERL     PO_POXPPOERL_VIEW     PO_REQUESTOR_GUI
    POXPOERL     PO_POXPPOERL_VIEW     PO_POXPOERL_FUNCTIONS
    POXPOERL     PO_POXPPOERL_VIEW     PO_POXBWVRP_FUNCTIONS
I've tried, under Functional Developer, to add several of these to the menu for Purchasing Approver. When they show up on the menu and I click them, I get a message stating: "You are not setup as a buyer. To access this form you need to be a buyer."
All I want is for people to be able to see and use the "Open Form Command". Am I going about this the wrong way?

I was probably not clear enough in my original question.
We want people who are approvers - but not necessarily buyers - to be able to open the form from the link. I'm not set up as a buyer, but I have the Purchasing Superuser responsibility and I can open the form.
I guess, bottom line... some more information on how to make links to eBiz forms work from WF would be helpful. I've not found much in the Oracle-supplied documentation that we have; I've read what's in the Developer's Guide and the Admin guide. Can anyone suggest a web link or two that might shed more light on the process?

  • How do I add XML content to existing FrameMaker Document

    Hello,
I have an XML document that contains features of one item and I want to add data from it to FM document that shows those features. These features have been added to FM previously by copy-paste technology which isn't obviosly the fastest way and I have understood adding them automatically is possible.
I can read XML well and I can produce XSLT files to make another XML files, problem is that I'm a little beginner with FM and help files didn't show any good examples of this (or at least I didn't find). I tried to do some read/write rules, because it seemed to be the way how FM handles these things but they didn't work.
So shortly: XML file (data) + FM file (tables and such) = FM file which have XML data in its tables
I would appreciate any help, like pointing to right help files or such, thanks in advance.

The two main references you need are:
Developing Structured Applications with FrameMaker, Guide
Developing Structured Applications with FrameMaker, Reference
They used to ship with FrameMaker, but you can download them from the Adobe site. Check the Support section. I do not believe they are available for FrameMaker 10 yet, but they are for version 9. No matter your FramMaker version, almost any set will do.
Basically, you need an XSLT that will translate the XML structure into the structure you use in your FrameMaker files. You need a set of read/write rules (see the references above). FrameMaker uses read/write rules to specify how certain FrameMaker objects are to be translated from the XML. Such objects include tables, variables, and markers.
Then you need to create a structured application that specifies where the XSLT, the read/write rules, and your structured template are located on you system.Again, see the references.
Once all of the above is in place, you open the XML file from within FrameMaker. FrameMaker will ask you what structured application to use, which you pick from the dropdown list. It will then open the XML file, apply the XSLT transformation, and copy the result into your structured blank template. That process will likely list several errors, which you may or may not be able to ignore depending upon the resulting FrameMaker document. In my case, these are usually errors about missing graphics, which I already know are missing.
The result is ONE FrameMaker file. You can then copy and paste the information where ever you need it in your other documents. I am not sure whether you can import an XML file into an existing Framemaker document, much like a text inset. Maybe others will know.
    Good luck,
    Van

I have customized a Requisition Notification based on PL/SQL documents and work flow concepts.
I have created no.of requisitions to test. Each requisition have 3 persons involved say A ,B , C
One for submitting ,other two for approval .
After person B approves., it will go to C. till now  Everything working fine ,
But In person C's notification list ,  the link called "Open Document " is missing to open the submitted requisition.
Do I NEED TO SET UP ANY THING .
How to resolve this .Any idea .Plz share.
Let me know for any clarification.
    Thanks
    Aravinda.

  • How to get the custom integrator in Manage Document Links

    Hi All,
My requirement is "Creating Word Documents Using Web ADI", I am following the document
    Oracle® Human Resources Management Systems
Configuring, Reporting, and System Administration Guide
    Release 12.1
    Part No. E13509-02
From page no. 194.In that section, No.8. Use the Manage Layout Document Links page to create a link between the
integrator and layout and the Word template.
See: Creating Links between Template Letters and Layouts, page 2-33
    2-33>>
Select Manage Document Links from the Web ADI menu.
But when I click on the "Manage Document Links", I couldn't see my custom integrator to associate my word document with my integrator.
I could see only the standard integrators.
How to get my custom integrator in "Manage Document Links". I could see my custom integrator in define layout but not in this page.
    Thanks.
    With Regards,
    Kali.

    Hussein,
    Thanks for your reply.
    I followed the
Note 360105.1 -Understanding and Using Web ADI in Oracle HRMS, and the section "Letters",
I could follow all the steps, except the following,
The reason is, when I click on Manage Documents Links, I am not getting my newly created integrator.
If I link a standard integrator "HR People Details" to my document, that is opening properly.
But I am not able to link my document with my integrator(which is based on my view).
    c.  Now link the template letter to the Letter Integrator and Layout.
If not already done so, Add the function WebADI Manage Document Links to your Web ADI menu, and give it a prompt of Link Document.
Select Link Document option , and Web ADI Mail Merge page displays. Choose your Letter Integrator. Link it to the Layout, and a list of template documents uploaded to the database is displayed. Select the template letter to be linked with the layout.
    Thanks.
    With Regards,
    Kali.
