  • Do we have an option to disable the FrameMaker error console programmatically in FDK11?

    Hi,
I would like to know if there is any option in the FDK11 to disable the
FrameMaker console window which runs on every frame file transformation. This
was happening with FrameMaker 10 too but it had never affected the performance.
With FrameMaker 11 the performance takes a huge hit and code slumps in the
middle of the transformation. Throw your thoughts on how to disable or to
periodically clear the contents running on the console.
    Thanks,
    Venkat

No way to disable it as far as I know. But you do control the content written to the console. Do you have .. F_Printf(NULL, "message") .. lines in your code? In general you want to limit the amount of content written to the console for the very reason you're seeing.
There are a number of places that FM displays messages .. are you really referring to the "console window" .. a separate window from the FM application woindow (a separate item on the task bar) .. or are you talking about the "console tab" .. the panel that shows up at the bottom of the application window, when an error occurs? (There's also the "log windows", which are locked FM documents that display at various times .. I assume you're not talking about those.)
If you're talking about the "console window" .. that you can control by not using .. F_Printf(NULL, ...). If you're talking about the "console tab" .. that should only display when something goes wrong, which hopefully you can control as well.
No .. I don't think you can disable either one. Do let me know if I'm wrong!

  • Arbortext(XML) import to Framemaker Error

I am trying to import XML files from Arbortext editor off of Documentum and I can not get them to import into FrameMaker without an "error in processing external entity reference."  I am trying to get the files into FrameMaker so I can create an EDD using the DTD from XML file.  Is there anyway to import the file or atleast save the DTD in arbortext to use in framemaker?

First you need to find the correct DTD - that is what is used to initate the EDD creation process...
When exporting a document from Documentum (using the export menu choice), Documentum normally will export all the files to the local file system in the location that you specify.  It fixes up all the references so that they are local file system references and also fixes up the Doctype to point to a local copy of the DTD.  The DTD and any other associated files (generally the entity files) that it references are typically downloaded to a folder in the same location that you exported the files to using the name of the repository.  So if your repository name was "repo1" then you would have a folder in your export location called repo1 that has the DTD and other files.  You can look at the doctype of the file that you exported and verify the location.
That is the DTD that you need to import into Frame to begin your EDD construction process.
It is possible that your DTD is not imported or correct in Documentum.  If you are currently using Arbortext to edit the files, then it is possible that Arbortext is using the public identifier to locate a separate copy of the DTD using its catalogs.  In this case the DTD will be in the Arbortext installation tree or if your IT has set a public shared doctypes folder it could be somewhere else.
I know this is clear as mud but it depends a lot on your system infrastructure setup.
First look in the Documentum export folder and see if that is the DTD you expect.  If not, then look in the doctypes folder for Arbortext and see if the DTD you expect is there.  Then if that fails see if your IT has pointed your Arbortext to a shared folder somewhere.
    Good luck - Jim

  • Error message after installing Acrobat 8.1 in Vista

I bought the Technical Communication Suite in June 2008, and installed it on my old computer, which was Windows XP.
Now my old computer has died, and I just bought a new Dell Studio with Windows Vista 64 bit. So now I'm trying to install in the new computer. I turned off my virus protection software, and then installed FrameMaker and Acrobat.
I received several FrameMaker errors which are now resolved, but I still have the following Acrobat error.
When I open a pdf file, I get a warning that says "A part of the Capture 3d plug-in has been damaged. To fix it you will need to repair the installation of Acrobat. This may have been a result of an anti-spyware application modifying the system's registry"
That doesn't make sense to me because I had turned off my virus protection before starting the install. I also tried rebooting at various times, but still get that message. However, I AM able to create pdf files, so I'm not sure if they're damaged in some way that I can't see. But even if they're OK, I certainly don't want to see that error message every time I create a pdf.
    Any ideas?

Thanks Bill. Sorry it took me so long to reply - today was my first chance to play with your suggestions.
Unfortunately I still have the error message about 3D not installing correctly. I did several updates to Acrobat 8, getting up to 8.1.6. Then I found an update for Acrobat 9 for VISTA 64 bit (which is what I have) so I tried that too. Still no luck getting rid of the error message.
I don't think the error message is causing any trouble because my pdfs seem fine, and I don't use the 3D functionalitiy. I thought that maybe I could just disable the 3D functionality, but I can't find a way to do that. Any ideas?

  • Unable to install robohelp plugin for framemaker

    Hi,
I have FM8 and RoboHelp HTML 9. When I open a new project and try to import a FrameMaker document or book I get the "unable to install robohelp plugin for framemaker" error.
I tried with FrmaMaker open and closed - same thing.
With RH7 it used to work.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Rakefet

Unsure about the plugin message, but you can import FM into RH9. The problem may be that you have a current RH9, but not a current FM10. Try downloading a trial of FM10, create a v10 copy of your book, and see if that imports.
Mark's comment applies to linking, but not to importing.

  • Can't Save As PDF in 7.2 after upgrade to 9.0

    Hello again, Framers,
In 7.2 we routinely used Save As PDF without problem. Now that we also have FM 9 on our systems, however, it appears that the newer Distiller overwrote the older one (the one that worked well with 7.2) because now when trying to Save As PDF (in FM 7.2), we often have problems. It all seems very random and we are at a loss as to understand.what is happening, why, or how to fix it.
The symptom is a FrameMaker error saying "Can't launch Acrobat Distiller to create a PDF file."
    Double-clicking acro.exe won't open Distiller -- nothing happens. (Can't open acrodist.exe or acrotray.exe under any circumstances.)
Printing to .ps and double-clicking the .ps file sometimes works, sometimes not.
Deleting the .tps files and others backups sometimes works, sometimes not.
Retrying Save As PDF multiple times sometimes works, sometimes not.
We three tech writers have similar setups: We're using XP, have all the latest FM patches, plenty of RAM, etc.
I hope the answer isn't "get rid of 7.2 and use only 9.0" -- our deadlines are such that it's hard to work only in the new version. The UI is different and some functionality is different, so the learning curve will take at least a bit of time.
Could it be as simple as having MIS re-install the 7.2 version of Distiller? Although we specifically requested they leave FrameMaker 7.2 when installing 9.0, we didn't think to mention Distiller, which was apparently overwritten.
If anyone has any experience with this issue, your advice is most welcome.
    TIA,
    Gay Alson

Thanks both Arnis and Mike --
Interesting suggestions from both of you.
Arnis, we're putting the cleanup utility on the back burner for the moment, since in our company, we can get in trouble using third-party software. However, it's good to know about this utility and we will use if it we have to. (Occcasionally we are forced to put our careers on the line for issues like this...)
Mike, we created a folder called "PDFSettings" in the 7.2 "fminit" folder and copied over the six joboptions files from 9.0.  Rebooted, rePDFed and voila, that worked. (Mind you, we can't say for sure that's what worked, because as I said in my original post, the simple act of rebooting "sometimes works, sometimes not...")
Eventually this problem will go away by itself because eventually we will get rid of 7.2 -- it's only deadline time-crunches that have made us reluctant to jump fully-clothed into 9.0...
I really appreciate the two of you taking your time to offer suggestions and help. I can't imagine life in the FrameMaker world without you!
    Cheers,
    Gay

  • Error while generating CHM from Framemaker 7.2 using Quadralay webworks 7

    Hi,
Iam using FrameMaker 7.2 and Quadralay WebWorks 7.0 for generating CHM files. While creating the webworks project I get error: "The Wizard was unable to scan documents". The support / information for this error suggests modifying the maker.ini file. However there is no specific information on what needs to be changed in the maker.ini.
Quadralay does not support version 7.0 anymore and no support information is available on their site.  I tried to uninstall and install Framemaker 7.2 and webworks 7 as mentioned on the adobe support site here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/328/328048.html. However this does not work and I get the same error.
I urgently require help on this.
    Thanks.

    Hello Michael,
Iam using Webworks Publisher Professional Edition 7.0.6.1058 and Adobe FrameMaker 7.2 on Windows XP Professional SP2. I made a fresh installation on another computer which now has only WWP PE 7.0.6.1058 and FM 7.2 and no other versions of these s/w.
I could find some links on this error after creating this thread. http://forums.adobe.com/message/1237326#1237326 .. I tried to change the maker.ini and edit the windows registry following the instructions mentioned in the post. I modified the folder names and paths appropriately. But the error persists.
Would greatly appreciate help on this as my project deadline is creeping in
    Thanks much,
    CP.

  • Saving a Book as pdf made in Framemaker 9 in Framemaker 10 Error

I have a book that was created in FrameMaker 9, I believe, and I am trying to save the book as a pdf with my FrameMaker 10 software. When I go to do this I get a "Book Error Log" report that says "Could not open title.fm, because it was created with a previous version of FrameMaker." I really need to be able to save this book and others like it to pdf and I don't have access to the Adobe FrameMaker 9 software. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Open up all the files in the book first; they'll be converted; save them and the book and then try printing to PDF.

  • Keep getting "renderable text" error when I need to OCR PDF's from FrameMaker.

My solution has been to individually extract all those pages, then open them up in Photoshop, flatten them and
widen the canvas size to standard 8.5 x 11.
But that's a little tedious and time-consuming and you have to delete the original page from your document, after
    importing the OCR-friendly page.
Is there a printer definition, or something you can set up when you're generating your PDF's in the first place,
that will get rid of that annoying "renderable text" error?

    Ok...
I don’t know how it happens but after I save my work in FrameMaker or MS Word, and print
to PDF for the final output, there are often pages with text in them that isn’t recognizable,
or that can’t be found with a CTRL+F search.
That is a serious issue, and one we might be able to help you with, but really, quite separate from the issue here. It's too late to try and fix this once it is a PDF.
What is it that’s lost when OCR is run?
Quality. Small file size. Tags (which might be required legally). Almost everything except the basic text, and that might also be lost given that OCR is not guaranteed to work. This is NOT the right way to solve your problem.
The translator doesn’t have any Adobe products except Reader, so I’m limited to Acrobat
to show her how the words and pictures are laid out on a page.
In order for her to copy and paste that text – or search it, to find all of the places where the
same word might be used – I need to make sure every word is there for her to grab.
I have heard of translators trying to work with PDFs, and few that succeed. You can reasonably expect a transation service to support FrameMaker. But if they don't I recommend you extract the text from FrameMaker to a simple Word or text file. They should be fine using the PDF as a visual reference, and having the text to translate, and for you to flow back into the original layout. (Again, something I'd expect a full service translation to do themselves, but there are advantages to keeping control too).
Those were the 2 pages that gave the ‘renderable text’ error. Don’t ask me why or how, they
look like all the other pages in that document. Except Acrobat thinks they’re scanned graphics,
that’s how they present when you wave the cursor around in them, hunting for text.
Renderable text is just text. It means that somewhere on that page there is text. Surely there is layout, page numbers, whatever from FrameMaker on the pages. If not, we really need to look at your production methods - back to the first point.

  • How am I meant to correct my Framemaker files to solve this Acrobat Distiller error?

When I attempt to generate a PDF from Framemaker 9 using Distiller 8.1 I get the following error:
%%[ Error: ioerror; OffendingCommand: imageDistiller; ErrorInfo: DCTDecodeFilter Second SOI or SOFn JPEG marker is disallowed ]%%
    Stack:
    -dict-
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%"
No PDF is created. I've tried 'save as' and 'print'. I have created a PDF from this document several times before with no issues. I haven't replaced any of the screenshots in this version. Where can I find the graphic that is causing the problem? How can I solve this?
    Thanks,
    Niall.

    1. To turn "off" the graphics, simply use the esc v v shortcut (this is a toggle on/off) at the book level (no need to remove anything).
    2. Render in Error's context means, then run it again with no graphics visible (but it's obvious from the Distiller error messages that the problem is in a JPEG that can't be properly interpreted).
    3. To isolate the page containing the errant graphic, a binary search apporach means do one half at a time, i.e. the first half of the book abd then the second half, to see where the error occurs. Then split the offending half section into two-halves again and re-create the PDF until you've narrowed down to the page with the error-prone file.
However, you indicate that you're able to create the PDFs properly when printing wthout Generate Acrobat Data enabled. What is you default printer instance and which joboptions are specified?

  • Error when linking FrameMaker book or document to RoboHelp project (TCS2)

    Hi,
I'm trying to link a FrameMaker (9.0p250) book to a RoboHelp (8.0.2.208) project, but get the following error:
"Failed to get any FrameMaker document from C:\.....\myfile.book" / OK
When I select the book file to link and choose [Open] I get an hourglass for a couple minutes then the error above. No wizard or "Scanning..." progress window.
I've tried linking a book from a network drive, from my hard drive, with the book open in FM9 and not open in FM9 (but FM9 itself is open).
Also tried linking an FM9 document and this time got the "Scanning..." progress window then the message:
""myfile.fm" could not be opened. Please verify that FrameMaker is installed and this is a valid FrameMaker document."
This is my first time trying this since installing TCS2, however I was able to link a book file when working with the trial version.
Any idea what may be the problem?
    Thanks in advance.
    Heather

I think this was due to a PC or network issue. After redocking my laptop today I can now link without error.

Adobe offers free technical support on installation issues on current

  • FrameMaker 9 - Internal Error 9004, 6921628, 9677518, 0 when launching

    Hi Adobe community,
I have been assisting a user with this FrameMaker 9 issue that has been returning many many times. When she launches FM9, she gets an Internal Error.
The workaround is to rename the Linguistics folder to something else relaunch FrameMaker 9 which will create a new Linguistics folder. However, the issue returns almost every month and we are not sure why. Any advice on how to prevent the Linguistics folder from being corrupted?
One thing to note is that the user has FrameMaker 7.2 and FrameMaker 10 installed concurrently. She often has FM 9 and FM 10 open at the same time.
Here is the *.txt file that the error message is referring to:

I have Frame 9 patched fully, patch 4, in Windows 7 Ultimate running in VMmare Fusion fully updated. I get this error every time I start Frame.
I have the same Frame version and updates running in the same Windows Ultimate running on Parallels Desktop 9, fully updated and it runs fine, no issues at all.
I have removed Frame in VMware several times. completely, with YourUninstaller which cleans all files, folders, and registry entries to no avail. I have deleted and/or renamed the Linguistics folder several times. Changed the maker.ini "sitedictionary=" entry to no avail, (I saw this in another post on another discussion site", didn't work... A side note, Frame 12 runs fine on the VMware machine...
I am at a loss other than Frame 9 and VMware Fusion are not compatible for some crazy reason. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • Error Moving Tables in Framemaker 10

I keep getting the following error when moving tables to a different page in framemaker:
    Internal error 10004, 8134312, 8140430, 8137451
The error happens any time I move a table that has an excel link in it to another page in a framemaker document with lots of text.  For example, framemaker shuts down whenever I move a table that displays at the bottom of page 2 to display at the top of page 3.

    Version 10.0.0.388
I move the tables using keyboard shortcuts.  I highlight the upside down "T" and copy and paste to a different section of the text.
I have done it with the excel files both on my system and on a network. It doesn't seem to matter.
Sometimes I have saved the file first before doing the move, sometime I have not.
I just select the table and maybe a blank space or two.
The error usually occurs when adding paragraphs in front of the table as well.  The only way I can move tables is by deleting the link to excel, then moving and re-pasting the link.

  • Internal Error 10014, 7686666, 10069197, FrameMaker has detected a serious problem and must quit.

When opening FrameMaker 10, program stops and relays Intrnal Error 10014, etc. I tried uninstalling FrameMaker and reloading, same error.  FrameMaker had been working to this point.Any Ideas.\?

At what point in the start-up screen (the module names flash below the "Adobe FrameMaker 10" as shown below) does the crash happen?
If this happens during "Localization", it usually means that one of your dictionary libraries (Linguistics) is hosed. If you rename the "Linguistics" folder at c:\users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe for Win7 or c:\Document Settings\username\Application Data\Adobe for XP to something else (e.g. Linguistics_bad), then FM will re-create a new one when it starts up next time. You can then delete the bad folder after FM has succesfully started.
If the problem is in another module, then please specify which module, which FM point release, what operating system your running, etc. so guesses about your environment are minimal.
