Fresh iTunes, now must I run the iPod software too?
Hoping to avoid screwing up my iPod's current contents by avoiding any snafu's. In that I've some new content I'd like to add to my iPod, and not sure if the online iTunes download installed iPod software or not, I might could assume if not, likely any automated updating of the iPod simply won't happen. On the other hand, my luck would be that the iPod would be erased or else corrupted if not actually having iPod's software installed (which again, I'm not sure if the iTunes download did/did not include the iPod software). I do see I have an iPod folder in 'my programs', and it contain a bin folder (600Kb) as well as an iPod Service.exe for a version 6.0.4.2. The other issue I'm concerned about is while my external HD's iTune music lists in iTunes (w/o any obvious issues, a pleasant surprise), in that it lists my Griffin software's iTrip stations, I'm a little apprehensive that this too (iTrip's software) likely also needs to be re-run as my laptop probably won't recognize that aspect of iTunes/iTrip. Sure wish somebody would post a stickey for us who are wrestling with having formatted and are reinstalling iTunes, iPod and iTrip. But then that would take all the fun out of things wouldn't it. Likely I need to track down the current iTrip and iPod versions and reinstall them, but maybe not?

the itunes upgrade doesn't upgrade the ipod updater, although it does swap out the version of the ipodservice.exe for the the latest one.
what model of ipod do you have?

what version of the ipod updater are you currently running? to check, go "start > all programs > ipod" and look for the date in the name. for example, mine says "2006-03-23".

I have a 4th gen. Itouch wiht IOS4 and i want to update it, but when i click the update button in ITunes it says "contacting IPod software server" and it looks like it is loading. However, after about 5 seconds it stops and says "ITunes could not connect to the IPod software server". I found the apple webpage that is supposed to help me, but when i went to the LAN settings in the control panel i found that 'Automatically detect settings" was already checked. I do not know what to do, Please help.

Do other devices now connect?
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:

I cannot update iTunes because when I run the Apple Software Updater, it says "'iTunes + QuickTime' has an invalid signature. It will not be installed." If I try downloading only it says "'iTunes cannot update. Invalid signature. Can someone help?

Itunes songs not copied due to ipod software too old???
p4 3.2g generic pc Windows XP Pro
recently bought ipod video and downloaded all software to update ipod.ipod came back with error of itunes songs could not be copied because your ipod software is too old...it stated that it was 1.1 and that was the latest...tried to reset to factory presets and it stuffs up...little folder icon..eventually got it going....only to plug in next day to find it had same message and all itunes songs wiped. This went on a couple of times ...reseting till it said the ipod was not recognised and a trip down to an apple store where luckily for me were very helpfull(chadstone).however it was in mac format...reset again!!!unplug..replug...move around and finally got it going...so far so good..not keen to unplug till finished loading all songs in case it deletes itunes bought songs again...suspect doggy pc software..apple software works in half the time and always works...at moment not interested in buying a mac...but maybe apple taking a leaf out of bill's book...only with mac..more work needs to be done on pc side...does anyone else suffer from this problem as i would like to hear from them and how they got around it...I will have to see if they play through the whole song in my library. I know the sampler played prior to purchasing. After I purchased and were added to my playlist I didnt try them to see if they played once purchased in my iTunes acct. I will and let you know. Unfortunately Im not at my computer with my iTunes on it. I appreciate your suggests and help. I will add to this once I find out. Thanks!

My computer keeps telling me that itunes tried to incorrectly run the C runtime library and now I can't get into it, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it but nothing is working
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

I addesd a lot of songs in my itunes, now when I synced my ipod this message appear "elma's ipod cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all the items in the itunes library (additional 382m is required). Then I uncheck a lot of song and synced my ipod again same message appeared. Do I need to buy a new ipod with more memories? Somebody told me to check apply after I unchecked some of the songs but I cannot find the word APPLY. please help I'm not a very technical person.
The Sync button becomes the Apply button, if you change the iPod's settings in iTunes. If you are only unchecking songs in the iTunes music library, you click on the Sync button.
When you select the iPod in iTunes, you see the iPod's Summary screen on the main part of the iTunes window. There is a checkbox there for Sync only checked songs. Did you check that checkbox? If you want iTunes to ignore the songs you unchecked when syncing your iPod, that setting needs to be enabled. If you change that setting, you'll see the the Sync botton has changed to Apply. Click Apply.
That method of unchecking songs works, but it may become annoying over time, as you need to uncheck more and more songs. If you want advice on some other more convenient ways to make it work, you can post back. -
When I tried to open a fresh iTunes download my computer gave the error message : 'program cannot run in DOS mode'. Since both items are Apple, why might this be happening?
Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

"itunes could not connect to the ipod becasue it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcose on the ipod before it can be used" BUT i cant unlock it and i dont have the original itunes that is was hooked up with before either. HELP! I got a new ipod touch for Christmas.
Today I was going to put music on it, i was told there was updates.
So I went ahead to do them.
My Ipod is stuck on the screen with the usb cord pointing to the itunes logo.
In Itunes i'm told :
Itunes has dected an ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this ipod before it can be used with itunes.
Turning the ipod off - the same screen appears when it's back on.
When I click restore ipod and after restore and update is clicked ; Extracting software loads up at the top.
When its done this is the message I get:
The iPod 'iPod' cannot be restored at this time because the ipod software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable.
I've been looking up trying to figure it out myself and have read making sure a setting in Lan Settings in Internet Properties has ; Automatically detect settings checked. I still get the same ipod message.
I've tried holding the power and home key to turn it off, then powering it back on. But that doesn't work.
I installed itunes today, so its up to date - I checked.
I don't know what else to do.
