Frontrow on TV, surfing internet on iMac

Hi all
I am going to shortly join the Mac ranks by purchasing an iMac, but I have a question I cant seem to find an answer for.
I know it possible to hook up my iMac to a TV and then output Frontrow on to that to view my media. However is it also possible to be using the iMac display in full res for whatever I want, say just surfing the Web, AT THE SAME TIME? So I or my wife or whoever can watch movies, or view photo slideshows on the TV, whicle someone else is using the iMac for something completely different. Hope the question is clear?!?!
Acer 5021WLMi   Windows XP   iPod Photo 30Gb

That will work, but I'm thinking his wife wants to
use the media features of frontrow to view photes,
movies, trailers, etc. I think a better option would
be to spring for a cheap mac mini and use that with
the TV instead of the iMac if he and his wife
frequently use the computer and TV at the same time.
glor
Yeh you are on to it, my wife wants the total frontrow experience while I might be on the iMac doing my thing. By the sounds, of it, it is not possible, so the Mac Mini for the Tv is probably best. I'm assuming its a breeze to setp up the Mini Mac to access the media files on the iMac?
Cheers for the help guys,
Jared

  • Can access Apple TV via airplay, but can't get to internet or iMac from Apple TV

Can access Apple TV via airplay, but can't get to internet or iMac from Apple TV. Whenever I try to put my info in it says to try later. When I test network it says network time has not been set. It has worked previously.

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.
If you are still having problems, the following article(s) may help you.

When our iPad is in use on the internet, my iMac internet connection goes off. I can't get the two devices to work at the same time with the AirPort Express. Is there a setting somewhere I may have missed?

When two or more devices conflict it typically means that the DHCP service is either misconfigured or is not running at all. DHCP provides IP addresses to local network clients.
Is your AirPort Express base station the only router in your current network configuration? That is, is it connected directly to an Internet modem and not to another router upstream of it?

  • Cannot surf internet with WRT54G v5 on Windows Vista RTM x64

Hi, I have a Linksys WRT54G v5 router with Firmware Version: v1.01.1, Nov. 10, 2006. On Windows Vista x64 I Network conections says that I have Internet access, as a matter of fact Windows Update works fine and downloads some update without any problem.
I tried on two onboard network cards thai I have on my MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum: Nvidia NForce 3 and Realtek RTL8169/8110 Family Gigabit Ethernet NIC. I tried also installing a PCI Realtek network card and no luck at all.
The thing is IE7, MSN, and any application that tries to access Internet cannot connect. IE7 says "address invalid". However on IE7 64 bit surf internet perfectly, everything else fails to surf.
Same router is working fine on Windows XP x64 Edition and 32 bit.
Any ideas would be appreciated.Message Edited by Hernan on 12-23-200610:20 AM

Hi, well check whether after installing the drivers for the Ethernet card whether the pc picks up an IP address. You can check it from start > run > cmd and then ipconfig. If you are unable to pick up an IP address then try to lower the card speed
If still unable to get it working then check with the Microsoft whether the cards do support vista or no.

    Hi,
For this kind of case, normally, I anticipate the connection comes from internet cloud which refers to remote access.
Since we have managed firewall services that associated with customer VRF, on windows based client, just configure/enable PPTP/IPSec on client - like most laptop or maybe perhaps pda...
    cheers..

  • Not able to surf internet on win7 & vista OS through Proxy server Ironport S160

    Hi,
Kindly can any one help me to know what is causing the issue here...
I am not able to surf internet only from the machines running with the OS windows 7 and windows Vista..
    Regards,
    Lingaraj

    Lingaraj,
Do you set the requirement for authentication in the identity used by the effected users/machines?
Can you capture the access log from the S160 while browsing from the effected machine?
    To gather corresponding access logs:
Make sure that the client used for testing is only running a single browsing session (tab) and ensure that any other applications that connect to the Internet are not running during this stage, e.g: Yahoo or MSN messenger.
    1. Log into the Command Line Interface (CLI) using SSH client, e.g.: Putty
    2. Type 'grep'
    3. Enter the number of the access log you wish to grep.
    4. Enter the regular expression to grep. This could be the IP address of the client that you use for testing.
    5. Do you want this search to be case insensitive? [Y]>  N
    6. Do you want to search for non-matching lines? [N]>  N
7 .Do you want to tail the logs? [N]>  Y
    8. Do you want to paginate the output? [N]>  N
    9. Run a test now by going to a URL from the client machine.
    10. After capturing the appropriate logs, please press ctrl-c to stop displaying the current logs, copy the whole output and attach it to your next response.
    Regards,
    -Donny

  • My PC can connect to the airport extreme but with encryption it cannot connect to the internet my iMac has no issues, any help.

My PC can connect to the new airport extreme I just purchased but with encryption it cannot connect to the internet my iMac has no issues.  If I open the airport exteme up and provide no security everything is fine which leads me to believe it is something with the encryption between the two devices.  Not sure what step I'm missing here this shouldn't be this difficult.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I am asking if the DNS IP addresses, not the IP addresses assigned by the DHCP service, are the same. DNS is like the Internet's version of the Yellow Pages. Your ISP typically will provide them to you or you can elect to use those provided by another source, like OpenDNS.
DNS is the service that translates a website's URL to its actual IP address so that you can access it. I am just trying to rule out that the PC is not configured properly with the correct DNS IP information.
The other thing to check is if the PC is configured to use a Proxy service. By default, it would not be.
Finally, what is the make & model of the PC. More importantly, if the PC is using either a PCI or USB wireless adapter, what is its make & model?

  • New iMAC - want to connect PC Laptop to Internet via iMAC Airport

Hello - I have a new IMAC and the Internet connection to the IMAC is fine but I'm having trouble establishing a wireless network.
The store told me that I could use the Airport built into the MAC as a wireless router so that my PC laptop can access the Internet as well. My PC laptop is running Windows 2000 - and I have used it with a wireless router previously.
I can see the iMAC wireless network connection in my laptop's available network; however, I'm unable to connect to it.
Also, my IMAC system properties for Airport indicate that the wireless network is unavailable.
I've not selected any security settings - unless there's some default settings that I'm not aware of.
    Advice or suggestions please???

The store told me that I could use the Airport built into the MAC as a wireless router so that my PC laptop can access the Internet as well.
That's correct. You will be using your Mac OS X's Internet Sharing feature to share your iMac's wired Internet connection wirelessly, using the iMac's AirPort, to your PC laptop. However, you will not be able to use wireless security, as the only option available (WEP), for Internet Sharing, will only work with other Macs.
To setup for Internet Sharing (Wired to Wireless):
    Enable Software Firewall - iMac
System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall
    - Click Stop to start the software firewall
    Setup the Network
Cable Modem > (Ethernet cable) > [Ethernet port] iMac > (wireless) > PC laptop
    Setup Port Order - iMac
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
    - Verify that "AirPort" and "Built-In Ethernet" are enabled.
    - Verify that "Built-In Ethernet" is at the top of the list, followed by "AirPort".
    - Click "Apply Now."
Configure the Internet Connection - iMac
    System Preferences > Network > Show > Built-In Ethernet > TCP/IP
    - Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    - Configure IPv6: Automatically or Off
    Enable Internet Sharing - iMac
System Preferences > Sharing > Internet
    - Share your connection from: Built-in Ethernet
    - To computers using: AirPort (checked) (Note: Uncheck all other entries in the list.)
    - AirPort Options
    -- Network Name: <anything you want>
    -- Channel: Automatic
    -- Click OK
    - Click Start

  • IPad without 3G option pairing with iPhone to surf Internet

I would like to buy a iPad 3 without the 3G option.
    Question:
Can I use the iPad without 3G option to surf Internet thru iPhone hotspot when I am outside with no wifi connection ?

No, you'll need to enable Mobile Hotspot through your carrier. To access it, go to Settings<General<Network<Personal Hotspot on your iPhone. It takes a while for me to load, but again, your carrier needs to enable the hotspot feature on your plan.
About third party apps (if you're curious), such apps have been available on the App Store for very small windows of time. You need to pay each month, unless you want to jailbreak, which voids your warranty.
When you have the hotspot setup, just connect your iPad to wi-fi, and your network name will show up. Connect to it, and there ya go.

  • Hi i have been surfing internet for some SAP ABAP mini projects

Hi i have been surfing internet for some SAP ABAP mini projects . I am learning SAP ABAP and want to implement the learnt knowledge in creating small project. Can someone suggest small mini project  that a fresher can do, or any websites where i can practise until i get job.
    Thanks in advance,
    Tilak Raja .

Seems like a noble pursuit... There are at least a few "spec dumps" or "do my job" questions (usually start with "my requirements are...") posted in this same forum daily, so if you get to them before the moderators do - there are a bunch of projects for you.
I'm a bit confused about the "web sites" part though - so you don't have an access to some demo/IDES system? How are you planning to do those mini projects then? Unfortunately SAP is not something one could easily practice in isolation - you'll need basic configuration, business data, etc.

  • Windows Vista installed, can't surf internet.

Running 10.6.8 on a 21 inch iMac Intel Core i5. Used Bootcamp Assistant in /Application/Utilities (presumably Bootcamp version 3.x) to partition, format and install Windows Vista Home Basic 32 bit with SP 1.
Installation completed without problem. Vista up and running. Launching internet explorer results in error messages leading to something like "network adaptor not found." "Open devices to browse/install network adaptor." -or something like that.
Bootcamp assistant user's manual leads me to try running bootcamp assistant setup.exe from my OS 10.6.6 CD while running Vista. I used the windows finder to get to my CD and locate the "setup" application for boot camp assistant. Upon launch, bootcamp stops launch and tells me "windows 7 is required." However, I have all the requirements listed in the bootcamp user's manual. as shown here:

if you can't surf then you can't have installed Windows updates.
I would not expect BT or wifi or anyting to work
10GB was for XP, not later which needs 30-50GB, 10GB free temp space after install and cache built and page file and hibernation taken care of.
MS does not support anything older than Vista SP2 was my understanding.
Snow Leopard has Windows 7 drivers though even there LION has better driver support - for 7.
I'd say try 8 RP but there are too many issues for now with that.
Leopard is 10.5.x and was the last to support Vista.

  • WRT54G - Cannot access internet but iMac airport says internet connection is fine... what's wrong?

I use a WRT54G wireless router connected to Mac. All of a sudden, I became unable to access certain websites on my iMac, such as Facebook and Apple homepages. But i can access Yahoo website. I tried resetting my linksys setup but it doesnt solve the problem. When i access my iphone via wifi at home, i am also unable to go into app store, facebook app, and emails with images won't load. I also cannot link my iphone to itunes on my iMac. What happens on my computer when I surf the internet is that the page just loads halfway and stop "responding". But my imac airport says that my internet connection is fine, however my access has become very "restricted". Can anyone tell me what's happening and how to resolve it?

To resolve difficulties accessing some websites when connected to a Linksys router you should check the following.
    Checking the router’s security settings
    Checking your computer’s security settings
Security on the web browser is set too high
Configuring the Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) on the router
    Opening ports for secured sites

try to disable record module in xorg settings. I encountered the similar problem sometimes ago, and my gnome desktop stays stable  since the modification mentioned below.
    Hope this will help.
    > cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-modules.conf
         Section  "Module"
            Disable "record"
