Frustrating, Unneccessary Internet Bill Charge

I am an airman that has just moved from Misawa Air Base, Japan to Fort Meade, Maryland.  When I moved, I returned my modem and cancelled my service with Verizon because I was no longer obligated to use Verizon internet services.  However, the Verizon in Misawa is very disorganized and does not communicate very well and I now have a $190.00 charge for supposedly not returning my modem.  Aside from that, I have not received a hard copy of the actual bill.  This happened last month around this time - I called Verizon and after many frustrating hours of "customer service" they said they couldn't even find my account information.  However, a few days later, the charge disappeared from my bank statement.  I thought it was resolved and I could move on, but then this charge appeared today. 
I don't know how to best resolve this issue, as contacting the main customer service has been largely unsuccessful.  I could use any advice offered, but this has vastlly changed my opinion on this company towards the worst.

I can see the need to have a clear understanding of bill charges.  I am here to assist.
I checked your state and local Verizon Wireless bill charges, taxes & surcharges, and found none with the title "Contact SOL Monthly fee".  I searched using the state (Md-Maryland) you have on your profile as your location.  As the previous Community member suggested, you may want to contact Verizon Communications (Landline, DSL & FIOS) support for assistance with these charges.

    Lots of things COULD be happening here. Your minutes for the 1st half of the month would be prorated if you didn't request the change take were back dated. For example if you made the change on day 15(15/30 * 700 = 350 minute allowance) of your cycle and had already used 450 minutes, you would have been over for the 1st 15 days by 100 minutes and have to pay an overcharge of $45($0.45 * 100 = $45). Charge would have been greater if you were further over in minutes. Plus you would have to pay the additional charge for the 1400 minute plan for the last 15 days of your billing cycle. For the additional line, you would be charged for the month for that line plus the taxes and any data plan or data charges if you didn't have a plan. You don't say if you have a texting or data plans. Did you send/receive any texts without a plan? Did you use any data without a plan or go over in your allowance. Anything we tell you is just speculation without more information.

    I have a data plan for my phone, but I'm not getting charged if I connect through my router at home. So, as long as you're using your home network you shouldn't get charged for it. The situation may be different connecting to public Wi-Fi spots.

    have double freedom, phone and hi speed internet, and it looks like i am being billed twice what i think i signed up for. has anybody fiqured out how to fiqure out the bill?  basic, non basic, non payment of non basic will not result in disconnection??? freedom basic charges and freedom non basic charges
    this all adds up too way to much for way too little. what am i missing? why am i paying a monthly service (basic) charge and then a monthly service charge for verizon and verizon long distance (non basic) which shows the freedom stuff, as i see it the non basic verizon and verizon long distance is the only phone charge i should be actually paying for as it includes local and long distance. these two listed charges are just about equal thus my double
    billing question. have i lost it or am i getting old and slow?

    Two things. First, this double billing has been going on since I signed up with Verizon. Second, how is it that a community message board gets a quicker response then trying to contact the billing folks via phone or email etc, I left a message the same day I posted this and got an automated email response that read sorry but because we are busy it could be awhile before we are able to answer you. Pardon me but I do hope this gets posted as I am not accustomed to being treated in such a manner, I have for over 20+ years been employed by at least one fortune 500 company and another that would very much like to be. They would find this sort of thing to be of such a major problem within there organizations that heads would be rolling and apologist's would be of no excuse. The customer is the most important thing a company has and if even one customer is dissatisfied then that is one
    to many, 100% customer satisfaction is a goal that can never be reached but should never stop being the goal and apparently Verizon either has lost sight of that fact or never sought it as part of there company mission statement. As a consumer I and all of us can spend our money with whomever we
    choose and choosing a company to go with like this we won't be customers of yours for very long. I personally will be taking lets say the next five days
    or less to make my decision as to what I will do. You have my money and can take your time resolving your billing issues since you are so busy.
    I am so amazed that in today's world a company such as this thinks so little of its customers and thinks that we (the customers) don't talk, email, blog
    sit at a coffee shop, bar, well I hope you a getting the picture because once the dissatisfaction story start....You will find and I am sure somewhere in the very upper management area someone knows it will cost 10 times more to get a customer back then it would have to do what it takes to keep him or her a happy satisfied customer in the first place.

    Hi all,
    After deciding to move home I made the necessary arrangements with BT prior to our moving date. Our switch over date was 14th November 2014.
    After numerous calls with BT and mostly dealing with multiple BT operators with little knowledge, poor communication skills, lack of interest and on a few occasions extreme rudeness, I was still no further forward with a line connection date.
    It became apparent that there was no line services to my new home, which I could understand although I was disappointed not to have been informed of the situation prior to my moving home (a fact BT should be easily aware of)
    I spent weeks going round and round with no clear outcomes or specific information returning to me, I actually knew more information from the site builders than BT knew, BT even had the arrogance to tell me that my information from the builders was incorrect (which it wasn't)
    Numerous misinformation, conflicting information, non returning of calls, engineer dates that were not upheld, non required engineer dates are amongst a series of frustrating dealings with the vast majority of the BT operators, there were only a few operators that seemed to care and assist and they were at the end of my ordeal of 3 months!!!!!
    It was very clear that the information from each phone call between myself and BT was not correctly recorded. On two separate occasions during a singular phone call I actually had to repeat my situation to three separate operators to which I had become accustomed to being transferred amongst.
    So to be clear from 14th November 2014 until late February 2015 we were without services.
    During one of my many and expensive mobile phone calls to BT I was advised to set up my own mobile broadband and they would foot the bill and repay the expense until they provided a service.
    (Which I did as I had no confidence in a connection date within months)
    Throughout this ordeal BT had the arrogance to attempt to bill me, even though we had no service!!!!
    Here is the kicker.
    BT have now disconnected us from their service (31st March2015) for an unpaid bill, a bill we can't get amended and corrected to reflect the 3 months without their incompetent service.
    They have even added charges for BT sports which I can't even watch as I have no viewing box, I believe this came free for 6 months) with my original package.
    Even this is an issue. I was informed upon moving house that a new contract would commence when I moved home thus starting the 6 months free BT sports package once more (yet another mistake by BT)
    We will not pay any form of bill until they amend and correct the bill to reflect we had no service for 3 months.
    I have now tried to call to speak to an operator regarding the issue, after entering my home phone number the BT automated service redirects me to the only option which is to pay the outstanding bill!!!
    No bill will be paid until it is corrected, I will be sending a bill for the mobile broadband I required to set up and maintain. I am also considering looking into the loss of earnings I suffered due to the length of time I was offline, as well as the amount of time required to deal with the sorry mess. A stressful time enough moving home without this added fiasco.
    I am also aware of the Ofcom regulatory body as well as the multiple rules BT will have breached in our contract.
    All in all we have endured a long and needlessly complicated mess, which thinking was behind us, is in fact still present. We are seriously considering removing our service completely with BT which I am sure in the eyes of the law will be justified and legally binding due to the numbers of contract breaches sustained by BT.

    You need to factor in all the fees and taxes. If you compare all of your itemized bills, then you can determine exactly where the increases are coming from. Once you pinpoint the exact item that is increasing, you can inquire or do research on that particular item. You will also see on your billing statements, any notices of pending increases in any charges.

  • New Billing Charges

    We received our March bill and it was $13.00 higher than last month. The increase came from the $1.99 DTA box which was given to us FREE several years ago , $9.95 charge for HD Additional Outlet Svc. and the increase in taxes , surcharges and fees. I called Comcast five times and was given five different answers from five different people. They told me the DTA box fee of $1.99 came from the Corporate Office and over rides any earlier free box(s) given in the past . The $9.95 HD Additional Outlet Svc.  fee is new and also came from Corporate to cover the box. We already have been paying $9.95 each month for the HD technology Fee charge. They told me that every cable box will no longer be free and a fee will be charged each month for them. Next month we are coming up on the start of our second year of our 2 year contract and we were told the cost will go up $20.00 for the second year. Has anyone else seen the $9.95 HD Additional Outlet Svc charge on their bill. We have one HD box , one Digital box and one DTA box which we do not use anymore. Thanks David.

    my bill has literally been exactly for many years. now throughout all of 2014 I finally noticed every month is slightly different.  I do not go over my minutes or data, or anything of that nature. does this happen to anyone else???  I don't get how fees and tax charge can change on the monthly

    Mine always changes within a few tens of cents of each other every month. The only thing that changes is taxes, but no one has ever been able to explain to me why the slight variation.

  • Why all of sudden $10 increase on my internet bill?

    Hi, when I first signed up with AT&T DSL internet service back in 2007, my monthly fee was $40. Then it became $45 at some point..then $50..$55, jumped to $65 last year. NOW You are asking me $75 for my next bill due at the end of this month. Once I called and tried to find out why price incerase for no reason, I was basically told you can do that for no reason but I can always switch my service to U-verse, however I keep reading how people are complaing you keep rasing their bill amount too.     If you switch to U-verse, you would be eligible for new customer pricing as far as I am aware. This also includes AT&T reward cards as a bonus. AT&T is also typically more willing to provide promotions(after their old ones expire) to U-verse customers from what I have seen.
    Not sure what speeds or whether you have both internet and phone, but here is the pricing -
    U-verse internet only 3 Mbps starts at $29.95 and 6 Mbps starts at $34.95 which is promotional pricing for 12 months. This includes a $50 rewards card and there is a provided rental gateway which costs $7 a month.
    If you don't get another promotion, it should still be cheaper. Here are the non-promotional pricing for the tiers.
    U-verse 3 Mbps = $47
    U-verse 6 Mbps = $52
    Add $7 for the rental
     

  • Outrageous Internet bills as part of a trial.

    I find it highly offensive that I am part of a trial for internet usage and therefore I seem to be paying for others around the country who have unlimited data.  As an technology savvy family, we use the internet substantially and now I get to pay more to use something that I used to get unlimited.  What makes it even more frustrating is that I am part of a trial.  I will be looking for another company unless something is resolved soon. 

    I would voice these concerns to the FCC as well, as this has been addressed before... h++p://stopthecap.com/2015/05/12/source-fcc-will-get-serious-about-data-caps-if-comcast-moves-to-impose-them-nationwide/ Replace the +'s with t's I would also suggest as a general rule that we should never take out our frustrations with this wretched company on those who have absolutely no control in the company,(Customer service) as they already have to deal with the bulk of negative fallout due to their horrific company's anti-consumer executive departments wreaking havoc in this market...

    Firstly no I haven't changed anything in regards Telstra products last was new mobile in May 2012.Can someone explain why since Dec.2013 Telstra now charges me the $2 fee.Tried 3 times by phone last time they said they would email copy letter supposedly sent in Sept 2013 informing of charge.You guessed it no email!!Went to Telstra shop they tried couldn't find letter they called someone else who did? find it and would email it to me.You guessed it again no email!!!!!!If Telstra twice can't send an email about charge how could I trust them to send me an email bill and actually get it !!!!!!

    steamer52, the Paper Bill and/or Non-Electronic Payment Fee of $2 has been introduced since 29th of March 2011 and applies to all plans below:
    This small fee ($2 including GST per bill cycle) are charged to customers on certain plans who don’t choose paperless bills and use electronic payment methods.
    Customers on those plans who do choose paperless bills and pay electronically won’t be charged the fee. You mentioned you've taken a new mobile service on May 2012 which means your mobile plan would be in one of the above plans where the fee applies.   • Internet connection charges

    I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem and how they fixed it in relation to the Iphone internet charges data usage.
    I have connected my iphone to the home wifi and have the bars displaying that I am connected. Then I do some downloads surfing etc., and I am charged for usage via my carrier, 3g Telstra network.
    I phoned Telstra help and they stated that to overcome the problem I should remove the sim card every time I am on my home network so I will not be charged. They further stated that there is a problem with the Iphone software not connecting to the correct system and just running via the phone.

    An easy test to see if your wifi is working properly is to put the phone in airplane mode and turn wifi on. If your wifi is working properly, the iPhone should connect to the internet through your wifi network.
    The Telstra rep was wrong about the iPhone having a problem connecting to the correct system. The iPhone is setup to connect to Wifi first. If Wifi is unavailable or the connection drops, the iPhone connects to 3G then Edge then GPRS.

    It means you paid your bill way late, and the lines were temp turned off where you couldn't use them, they charge $15 per line for them turning them on, if you ever are going to be more than the due date late on paying your bill, call verizon and make arrangements if you do a post dated payment with them and then the $15 won't happen, but you have to call them in before the phones are turned off.
