FTP error - persistent

Question

I recently re-installed my files on to a new computer and re-installed CS4 since then I have not been able to get an FTP connection. I had to re-set the FTP settings and did this with the help of the two domain hosts. Still it is not working so I did the other recommendations, turn off the firewall and download FTP client. When I checked the files using filezilla, all 3 websites connected with the hosts so why won't dreamwever connect??
Error says FTP ERROR CANNOT OPEN REMOTE FOLDER... ACCESS DENIED THE FILE MAY NOT EXIST OR THERE MAY BE A PERMISSION PROBLEM.  THE OTHER SERVER MESSAGE IS CANNOT MAKE CONNECTION HOST. PLEASE CHECK YOUR CONNCECTION INFORMATION... help

You mention that the drive on the old computer is damaged in your most recent post.  I'm wondering if the cache/site definition was corrupted causing this issue.
When you put DW on the new computer did you do a fresh installation or did you try to bring over the user account and programs from the old computer?
Depending on how you did this there are a few steps.  First if you brought over the site files, have you tried creating a new site pointing to a blank folder (since I don't think you can have multiple sites pointing to the same location) and then setup the FTP and make a connection.  If that works just delete the old site definition and point to the new one.

If you brought over the program folder, click on Help->De-Activate in DW, and run the cleaner tool: http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html .  That will delete all references to Adobe products on your system.  If you do not de-activate first you may need to call Adobe the next time you install for a too many installations error.  Once the cleaner tool is run you will have to install Dreamweaver and any other CS programs you have.
