FTP Help

I m trying to write an FTP code. I got a sample code from the java forums. It has an upload method with ftpServer, user, password, filename and source as parameters that have to be passed to it. It also has a download method with ftpServer, user, password, filename and destination as parameters that have to be passed to it.
Other than that, it uses StringBuffer, URLConnection, BufferredInputStream, BufferedOutputStream, .read and .write commands.
The filename, source and destination are self-explanatory. But, I m still trying to understand what the input for the ftpServer and the username/password should be.
If anybody can help me with this program, I ll appreciate it.
Thanks.

You need to read the RFC. ftp://ftp.rfc-editor.org/in-notes/std/std9.txt.

  • Yosemite 10.10.2 server app. FTP help. I have a program running in my local server enviroment that wants to FTP to my mac folder. It asks for the server , name, password, port and path. what are they?

So I have set up a localhost area in my Mac. I have the new server.app and I am running yosemite 10.10.2 .
I have a program running in my local server enviroment that wants to FTP to my mac .
It asks for the server , name, password, port and path. what are they?
I am pretty certain that the Serveris "localhost",
Name is my macs name (like my-mac-min)
    password is "my login password"
    and they suggest port 21.
But what is the file path, lets just say my site is set up http://localhost/siteftp and is actually at my Users/Sites/siteftp folder.
Why cant this program connect to the mac.
Is it because they are both operating in the same localhost enviroment,
could it be my folder permissions are not correct on siteftp folder?
    Help please !

I tried turning the computer off and then back on. The alerts don't show the notice to update as resolved. Hopefully this is not a problem or an indicator or another problem. Should I ignore or reload 10.10.1 from the app store to trigger a resolved check in a green circle?
Interesting that I had to buy server software after my free Yosemite download. I would have hoped that the two pieces of software would have gone together without any complication. It is not positive to end up buying a problem. Ah well, time to move on.

  • Complete novice needs ftp help

    HI All,
I'm a first time user of iWEB but reasonably confident with using macs for other things - particularly use imovie/photo/tunes.
I tried searching the forum (I use it a lot and usually find answers) but couldnt find anything that goes right back to basics...
Anyway, I have made a site using iWEB for my business and have a domain name and hosting space . I have downloaded Captain ftp but cant seem to get it to upload my site. I have host name, user name and password. I just opened Captain ftp and clicked on remote, quick connect. My domain name appears in one of the windows in red and the stripey blue and white bar at the bottom just kept moving and it said 'getting folders' but it never did (30 min later). the other window says my mac and shows hard drive icon under name
Can anyone offer an idiots stepwise guide for me? I'm feeling a bit frustrated at the whole thing. I tried to get through to the host tech support but they didnt have anyone who could help me with mac/iweb problems.
    Thanks in anticipation

changes on the server side or on my side, Dreamweaver refused to
put files (any type of file) to the server. Permissions haven't
changed on the box, all is as it was. Here's a copy of the end of
the FTP Log. The file default_new.asp that it refers to has never

  • Need ftp help

OK, I have to admit up front....I am totally clueless about FTP. I've published my own websites for almost 10 years now without really using or even understanding FTP. (I did used to hand code, but I can't begin to remember how I uploaded. I've been using WYSIWYG programs for years now.)
So I'm working on creating a site in iWeb and uploading to my daughters' domain using (a trial version of) Transmit. I just selected a template and made one welcome page (with minimal changes) just to figure out what I'm doing.
I'm actually not sure I'm doing the "publish to a folder" thing correctly. (Just created a new folder down in Documents called PT.) So I don't really know what to select in Transmit to get the right things online. It actually seems like it worked (I can see my files listed in "their stuff.") But I can't see the page by going to the URL. I only see the old page I created and uploaded in DreamWeaver a long time ago.
I am feeling like a true idiot (though I usually consider myself intelligent). Can anyone point me to the instructions for truly clueless people? Thanks!

OK, I thought I uploaded both. Mainly b/c I wasn't sure which one to pick first, so I went with the index file. That didn't work, so I picked the folder. Oh wait ... I just checked, and they are both listed in "their stuff."
In Documents, I have a folder I created called PT. Inside that, I have my index file and my PT folder (b/c I named the site PT.) First, I am now remembering you said (on your site) not to use the same name everywhere, so did I mess that up?
The URL is www.princesstown.net. The DW page is purple and has animated stars. The iWeb page is the pink kids theme, and I only changed the top page title to "Welcome to PrincessTown.net".
Thank you so much for your help!!

  • FTP help please

I do not use ftp access from outside my network very often, but for some reason mine is not working anymore. I have both ports 21 and 22 open on my router, and the correct sharing is turned on in the system preferences. When I log into my ftp account, the site is found, but when I log in with the correct info, I am unable to connect.
I have no-ip set up, and I also run website. The website is working fine, so I know my ip's are set up correctly.
FYI...I am trying to connect to m mac FTP server from a windows machine. Again, the sire is found, but I am unable to log in.

Is the PC using Passive or Active FTP?
It doesn't really matter what the request is, the ftp server will choose what ot's set at!
On the Mac, for a test, try shutting off the Firewall completely, becauase Active ftp will start on Port 21 or 22, but then require some random purt above 1023!
(Of course Norton & many other Firewalls don't really re-open the Ports you may they may have closed just because you tell them to, or quit them, or even un-install them, on both Mac & PC!)

  • IWeb FTP help after a server crash

I have been using IWeb to post changes to my web page. During one of these FTP sessions, the provider's server crashed. Now when I try to publish with IWeb, I get a message that the directory path can not be found. When I use CyberDuck to FTP to the same path, it works. My provider can find nothing wrong on their end. I am a novice so I have exhausted my skills on this. Any ideas?
    Tnks,

  • Modify oracle report FTP help

    Hi Guys,
I need to modify an AP report (Positive Pay) and FPT to the bank
has any one knows how to do this I am on APPS 11.5.8
    Thanks In Advance

    Hello!
If I have correctly understood, at not filling of some parameters the report is not formed. There can be at you in the report a condition:
    where a =:p1 and b =:p2 and c =:p3
and if all parameters are filled that it turns out, for example:
    where a=1 and b=2 and c=3,
if one of parameters empty, for example "a" will be:
where a=null and b=2 and c=3 - that is the report will not be generated,
    Try: where a=nvl (:p1,0) and b =:p2 and c =:p3

  • File adapter processing in FTP mode

    Hello SDN,
I need some info on File adapter working in FTP mode.
What happens when we point to a remote file location that runs on FTP server?
FTP in standard does not support a remote read operation at all. So the only possible logic that strikes me is issue a FTP get command over the file and get the file locally, read it. Does it happen this way? Or SAP has customised FTP to enable the read operation from a remote location directly?

  • How can i keep the optimize settings in Muse

    Hello
    I just uploaded a web site www.coopdebici.com
I was very carefully optimizing the images in adobe photoshop, and make them always at 100%.
When the web site was oline i takes a lot to charge some images and i just realized that Muse increase a lot the file size of most of them!
So, how can i keep the original optimize settings?
I don't want to replace the images manually using ftp
    Help me please
    Sebastián

    I just realized what happens.
I see that some images keep the original names an its compression and size, but other images doesn't.
The "problem" is with the round corners that i used, the original images are in jpg, but in order to make the round corner the Muse convert them in to png and it increases a lot the file size.

  • Command line - Set default app

Can someone tell me how to change the default ftp helper application for OS 10.5 via the command line?
    Thanks!

As most probably know, there are issues with Apple's implementation of FTP via the Finder.
The company I work with delivers product by FTP and to quite a number of Mac users who, when using the Finder, come upon issues.
For ease of use, I recommend Firefox which does a nice job of FTP. But Firefox doesn't offer a way to change the default helper app for the ftp:// protocol. I know Cyberduck, MoreInternet, the old IE and Fetch do but most just want to use a browser and suggesting IE isn't good.
I'm just attempting to find a easy way to set this without telling clients to download & install a horde of apps.

  • Is my router effectively secured?

I was wondering if the following what I have done is the best possible, if there is any possible way to improve the security:
    I have a WRT320N
SSID: just let it broadcast. Removing this broadcast will not improve overal security. SSID will be shown even if you diable periodic broadcasts.
Change Router default name to something that does not suggest it's location or brandname/type
change the default password (the one to access the router from your browser)
Disable remote management: don't want anyone using Wi-Fi to try to hack my router
disable Upnp, automatic configuration of router has possible security leaks.
use WPA2 personal (just choose the highest encryption) and use the longest, uppercase, lowercase numbers and letter combination you can think off.
mac filtering can be set to on, but hackers can clone MAC addresses, the extra security is doubtfull.
AP isolation: Prevent wi-fi users on my router from accessing eachother, isolate all wi-fi users from eachother.
enable SPI firewall: blocks incoming network packets that originate from the internet. And were not started by me: internet at port 80, my firefox tries to open a webpage, these kind of incoming packets will be alowed by the router to pass from internet to my computer.
use webfilter and prevent any network packet with java, proxy, activex  to pass my router: at this moment I am blocking proxy. I am filtering webcasts.
Blocking any port except 20,21,25,53,80,110,443. (port range is from 0 to 65523)Blocking both UDP and TCP for all IP addresses 192.168.0 to 192.168.0.254 So only these mentioned ports are allowed to be used.
    Thanks for helping out.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Re SSID broadcast.
    1. Correct. Even with SSID broadcast disabled the router will still broadcast a periodic beacon which means a wireless scanner will immediately pick up the existence of a wireless network.
    2. The SSID is transferred in plain text during association with the router. Any network sniffer will learn the SSID at the moment a (legitimate) device connects to your network.
    3. By sending some rogue packets to the AP it is easily possible to disassociate any connected wireless device forcing a re-association. This way you can learn the SSID immediately.
1-3 means that a SSID of a wireless access point with SSID broadcast disabled is unknown as long as no wireless device is connected to the router because there is no way to force an association request of a legitimate device. Some people therefore believe the disabled SSID broadcast is a important means for increased security, in particular when the wireless is not used very often. Of course, if you don't need the wireless for most of the time you should turn it off completely.
On the other hand, disabling the SSID broadcast technically breaks the 802.11 standard and is known to cause connectivity and stability problems with some wireless cards. Therefore, I usually recommend not to disable the SSID broadcast.
Re "router default name". If you mean the SSID, of course, changing it is important. Mostly to prevent your wireless devices to connect to your neighbor's router who still uses the default SSID.
Changing the "router name" on the main setup is not necessary. It's only necessary for the internet connection and only if required by your ISP.
Changing SSID or "router name" won't change the MAC address on the wireless. The first half of that MAC address will reveal the manufacturer (Linksys or Cisco)
Re remote management. Disabling remote management is good. Of course, verify that it really works. Some routers had a firmware bug which opened the web interface to the internet regardless of that setting.
Re UPnP. Correct. It should be disabled at all times.
Re WPA2 Personal with AES only encryption and a strong passphrase is the best wireless security you can have at this time. Passphrase can be up to 63 characters long.
Re wireless mac filter: MAC addresses are always transferred unencrypted (even with WPA2) and are easily cloned. Thus a simple network sniffer will be able to pick up MAC addresses of legitimate devices which you can use to connect.
Re AP isolation. Can be used if no wireless-wireless connections are required. Of course, if an intruder hacked into your wireless network he can try to hack into your router from there. The protection of the web interface on the LAN side is quite weak.
Re SPI firewall. Must be on. It protects the router from the internet.
What you write on that subject is the "protection" due to NAT, i.e. because you use private IP addresses. NAT technically does not block unsolicited incoming traffic. It simply drops unsolicited incoming traffic because it does not know what to do with it, i.e. it does not know where to deliver it to unless you configure port forwarding or similar. By design, NAT is not a security mechanism as its design goal is to allow connections and not to block them. Some (older) NAT implementations tried to deliver unsolicited incoming traffic by some heuristics. Some (older) NAT implementations had FTP helper functionality (to make FTP work properly through a NAT router) which made it possible to get any port opened on the router.
Re webfilter: depends. Will cause trouble with HTTPS web sites as HTTPS requires secure end-to-end security.
Re blocking all ports except 20,21,25,53,80,110,443. Well depends again. In your list for instance, you block port 995 (POP3S) and only accept 110 (POP3). Depending on your mail client and the pop server this may lead to an unencrypted connection between the client and the server because port 995 is not accessible. Similar with port 25 (SMTP). Some web servers run on port 8080 or other ports which won't work or work only partially (because some content is on a web server with different port number).
So technically, your block list will probably more affect you and your ability to use the most secure protocol which might be currently on your block list. In addition, as most people have ports 80 and 443 open for outgoing traffic most malware uses it to talk to the outside. Thus, your list although the idea sounds good probably won't help you.
Thus I would say that in most home networks such a blocking list based on a list of a few excempt ports won't really help your security and mostly will cause problems for you and nothing else. Such a list will work in a corporate setup where you can narrow down the legimite traffic very well. But for home use and general browsing habits it won't really work.
In addition, I think you cannot set up such a list on a Linksys router. You can only block ports but not all ports except a few.
Another, extremely important point missing from your list: Always change the router default password (admin) to a strong password. But I guess you already did that, too.
Overall, I would say you have got everything right...
