FTP open source component
Im looking for an open source FTP component in Java ... any tip?
For GETting a file, you can simply use the ftp: protocol with the URL object. Placing the file remotely, you will have to use a separate library. There are several out there you may wish to search on http://sf.net

Any open source component libraries...?
I could very well be getting ahead of myself but Ive been curious as of late. Are there any Open Source groups out there (that browse these forums) planning on developing some component libraries for JSF? I definitely see the need for some extended functionality in the area of data access.
Yes.... I've been working on one, but unfortunately, I can only do this in my spare time, which has been quite limited lately due to other projects. We'll announce something in this group when there's something worth taking a look at. Right now, there are only about 5 components, and two of these are layouts, containers, rather than widgets.

Help implementing an open source component
Hello again!
I found a gauge at http://www.twgonzalez.com/blog/?p=34 that I want to play around with but I have limited experience getting anything that isn't out of the box to actually work . If someone could point me to a tutorial or what not so I can learn to do this I would be grateful!
ThanksPutting images in your program isn't slow if you implement it properly. A good example would be Frag Island. They implement 3D textured tiles, and it runs very well on only a pentium 233. You might look at some source code for 3D raycasters (There are plenty around), they perform alot of this using pixelgrabber, and some other tricks.

I am afraid slow performance is a built in feature of this database design, not much you can do in queries.
You could possibly create the views as materialized views and query those instead.
Quote from the linked article
But, how does it perform? Miserably, terribly, horribly. A simple "select
first_name, last_name from person" query is transformed into a 3-table join with
aggregates and all. Further, if the attributes are "NULLABLE" - that is, there
might not be a row in OBJECT_ATTRIBUTES for some attributes, you may have to
outer join instead of just joining which in some cases can remove more optimal
query plans from consideration.
Writing queries might look pretty straightforward, but it's impossible to do in
a performant fashion. -
FLV player component. Open Source/commercial options?
I'm returning to a project I've had on hold for a bit. We're
now receiving
.flv files from our video team and we need to displaying them
on our site.
Can anyone recommend some Flash FLV player components? Open
source
preferred, but commercial or freeware would be OK too if
highly recommended.
I've looked at OSFLV but that appears to require PHP back end
scripts. Our
site is ASP.net so likely wouldn't work.
Ideally, it'd be a player that we could passe the FLV info to
via the HTML
(so that we could incorporate the embed markup automatically
via our CMS
back end).

I beleave first of all you must decide how will you show your
videos.
Do you have FMS? Or is webserver the only you have for your
site? If
you don't have FMS and don't like to buy its license, then
the only
possible way is to use HTTP Streaming or simple progressive
download.
And you must seek for a player depending on your choice of
the video
delivery method. HTTP Streaming is a great choice if you
haven't FMS.
Though you need some scripting language/database engine at
your web
server and some custom SWF (Flash FLV Player). Standard UI
components
like FLVPlayback will not work with HTTP Streaming. Though it
is not
so dificult to create such player using any Flash MX version
>= 7.
You can find some brief description of HTTP Streaming if
you'll try to
search in Google:

Hi,
Im looking for an open source SFTP Client.
Ive downloaded commons-net-ftp-2.0.0.jar from http://people.apache.org/~rwinston/commons-net-2.0/.
It is very useful and has support for FTP and FTPS protocols but I need to have support for SFTP protocol too.
So any update in this regard is highly helpful to me and the same is highly appreciated.
Im looking NOT for any graphical or command line, kind of implementation.
Im expecting a jar like commons-net-ftp-2.0.0.jar which I can as use as part of (server side) java applications.corlettk wrote:

Dnd - prevent drops on the source component
I need to be able to prevent the drops onto the source component. Currently I can do this by passing the source component in the transferable, get it in TransferHandler#canImport using a special sourceComponentFlavor and do the trick.
However, this way of doing things does not seem to be along the lines of the dnd support, the source component is not really data to be transported.
Any other ideas? Even better if the no drop cursor would appear while over the source component.
CheersWe`ve opened an incident to SAP and they helped to solve the issue.
The decision is in following:
The incorrect SQL-statement (with missing quotation marks) occurs when
the SLT system tries to calculate access plans with a generated
function module (e.g. /1CADMC/ACS_001000000000073 in source system). The
function module is generated in the SLT system when the runtime
objects are generated. There is an error in the generation of runtime
modules that causes the wrong SQL statement.
Please ensure that the master job of the configuration TEST2 is
stopped (transaction LTRC in the SLT system, tab 'Administartion
Data', button 'Stop Configuration'), then implement the OSS notes
1990054 and 1992138 in the SLT system.
After you have implemented the notes, use transaction LTRC again and
restart the master job. Then go to tab 'Table Overview', click on
button 'Data Provisioning' and stop the load/replication of the tables
/BI0/AAPO_DS0500, /BI0/AAPO_DS0540, /BIC/AZC_MV_MT00.
When the three tables do not occur in the table overview anymore,
click again on button 'Data Provisioning' and (re)start the
replication of the three tables. The system will generate the runtime
objects again (this time without the incorrect SQL statement), and the
error should not occur anymore when the acces plan is calculated -
[ANNOUNCE] Ourfaces: Open Source Customer UI Components
Hi,
we have started an open source project with the aim to provide commonly needed customer JSF UI components. The project's name is Ourfaces.
We are not implementing the JSF standard but like to share useful UI components based on the standard under the Sun Public License. Therefore the components can be used freely, can be customized or enhanced by everyone, and improvements should be given back to the community.
Our vision is to have all commonly needed JSF UI components available under open source license - ready to plug them into any JSF supporting tool.
However, we are starting modestly: We enhanced the tree component provided by the reference implementation and set up a project at java.net. We are trying to get the first component running robustly. Next component on the roadmap is a table component.
If you are interested have a look at
ourfaces.dev.java.net
If you think that we are on the right way and you like to bring us a step further towards the vision, please, send me an e-mail.

Matthias UnverzagtHi Matthias,
Let me state upfront that I am running JSF1.0 and have some other apps running fine.
I downloaded the new version. However, it looks a bit odd.
I looked at the table examples.
table/table.jsp is coded to use a tag called "ourfaces:panel_resultset". (Shown below) However this tag is not mentioned in the tld.
Also, the tld for table is very small only two attributes.
I tried to make the other examples work. But the tags are not even balanced. In:
table/example1.jsp
table/example2.jsp
the view tag is not closed properly.
As a result none of the table samples work.
I do see the latest timestamps on the files.
Please let me know if things are not quite ready yet?
Thanks,
Vinay

Open-source anyone??
I recently decided to start an open-source project JAquarist, which Im sure not too many of you would find great interest in, despite some rather interesting ideas and techniques Ill be employing in the application. Several months ago I attempted an application framework, a small project that I brushed to the side until
more important things were taken care of, JAVA certification being just one of them.... I decided to complete this project, the Framework that is, in the hopes it would make my real task at hand JAquarist project a bit easier to develop, maintain, extend, etc. The development of this framework has gone quite well to this point, some areas admittedly quick fix hacks, my inexperience probably showing through its design, but its almost completed to the requirements for my JAquarist project. The point is that this framework could be a useful tool, or a quality framework if more time, though and effort was given to its overall design and implementation, especially by those more experienced than myself. I hate to admit there is huge room for improvement in many areas, I still have much to learn!!
I will finish this framework within two weeks and then let it loose. Anyone interested in further developing this framework please contact me at [email protected]My project is hosted at sourceforge, that is JAquarist which will be built using the framework Im currently working on, which should be a project of its own. Its an application-framework which attempts to many things. Key features, are dynamic pluggable behavior through a component interface. This interface defines such things as the components available guis, top level menu, menu-items, dependencies(for inter component communication/re-usability), as well as a few other odds and ends. Classes implementing the component interface can be added/removed via xml configuration, without recompile. Menus are dynamically created and linked to a "components" defined guis, some of which wil be reusable in other components. Logging, although very much a quick hack at tis point, is also provided, an application context for an application to easily access key directories/files under an install directory, lastly jdbc support, which is coming along well I think. You can turn jdbc on/off and specify connection parameters in xml config, and much of the work such as data binding is handled automatically. In addtion component depenency checking, jdbc dependency checking as well. To provide one example, there is a JdbcComponent interface. initialization wil compare its required tables to tables existing in an rdbms, if not found initialization will call upon the components getCreateScript() returning sql create statement, which will then be used to create the table.

Open source driver for wrt1900ac?
It is not possible to compile a fully working (including WiFi) OpenWrt build for the WRT1900AC. At this point anyway.
For those who want to use OpenWRT, will the use of a closed source component be required indefinitely or is work happening to make a full open source release? The best way to get immediate information would be to directly contact Linksys on the phone and talk to some one at level 2 or higher support to see if any information will be given. Company intentions are not usually given since thats probably company confidential. Linksys or most Mfrs never directly post in forums unless it's something specific and even then, forum Admins post this information. They may or may not be looking in forums aswell. You could ask the forums Admins on here to see if they can get some information as well. Most users on here don't have this kind of information and we can only speculate. The best place for correct information would be directly with Linksys or with OpenWRT.

Connecting Websphere MQ with another open source Queuing System
Hi everybody,
i work in a company that has already purshaced Websphere MQ as MOM, and we have some clients that unable to buy it. So is it possible that we find an open source queuing system such as ( openMQ, ActiveMQ ....) able of sending messages to a websphere MQ over a secured channel. I couldnt find any site on the internet that's telling me straightforward that this or that queuing system is able to connect with websphere MQ. So i'm begining to believe that it's impossible to have 2 different queuing systems working together and that it has to happen through an application server. Is that true ?? that every queuing system could only send messages to the same system and if not what open source queuing systems i can use with Websphere MQ ?? I'm really puzzled and hope anyone could help.
Thank YouThanks. James.

A simple question : Now that the 1.0 version is here, is JavaFX open-source, and if so, under which licence ?
Edited by: Traroth on Dec 4, 2008 7:24 AMTraroth,
Let me add some details to my previous post.
I think people don't appreciate the effort and difficulties involved in open sourcing a complex piece of software. Questions you have to ask yourself are:
- Who is going the use the open source code and for what purpose? And how does that affect the goals and methodology?
- Which parts of the stack do I own and can I release as open source? And what are the legal implications?
- If there are 3rd party components I can't release - are there open source alternatives to fill the holes?
- Without any alternatives to fill in for the 3rd party components, is the remaining open source code functional enough to be worthwhile?
- What license am I going to use and does that license match the expectations of the open source project?
- What related open source projects do I anticipate to interoperate and integrate with and what are the licensing aspects of that?
- What model of participation and code accessibility works best for the goals?
- How do I ensure the code that is in the open source remains up-to-date and useful?
- Are forks acceptable and if yes, how does that impact the project?
- Do I have resources maintain the open source code base?
- Do I want to build a developer community around the code and if yes, what is the participation model for the community?
- Have you double-checked the code and covered all the legal aspects necessary for a release into the open source?
- etc.
I think you get the idea. If you want to create a successful open source project all these questions need to be answered. And one major issue, as rexguo correctly points out, is that a major component of JavaFX (video and audio support) comes from a 3rd party vendor. Are there open source alternatives that could be used instead? If yes, how can that be implemented? If not, is JavaFX useful without high-performance cross-platform video/audio support?
These are all points that need to be considered. Doing open source right is hard and takes time. That's not to hand-wave or preempt the discussion - it's just a reality.
Hope that helps,

OpenCL for Labview is now Open Source
Howdy,
I wrote OpenCLV (OpenCL for Labview) about a year ago and have decided to make it an Opensource project availible on GitHub. It contains all my C code to compile DLLs, all the Labview code, some pre-compiled x64 DLL code and a pre-built .vip project if you just want to download and install it.
https://github.com/amcelroy/OpenCLV.git
My email is in the GPL license header in the C code if you find any bugs or have any comments.
Austintst wrote:
While I don't have use for something like this myself, the willingness to share open source code is appreciated.
One problem I would have with this, though, is the license. I'm far from an expert on licensing, but my understanding is that the GPL license is infectious - if you use a component which uses it directly in your code, you have to make your own code GPL as well to adhere with the license and the only way around that is to separate the GPL component into a separate, dynamically linked, component which would allow the end user to replace it if they want. See their FAQ here - http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#GPLInProprietarySystem
My understanding is that this is the reason that OpenG switched from GPL to BSD some years ago - BSD is more permissive and basically just requires you to place the copyright notice somewhere where the user can see it.
The strict interpretation of GPL prohibits integrating a GPL component into a non GPL software even dynamically. That is why there is a LGPL. And that was indeed why OpenG changed from LGPL (not GPL!) to BSD several years ago. Many of the most influencing OpenG supporters felt that it was rather cumbersome to use it in non (L)GPL software. The most prominent product of this nowadays is VIPM.
The only exception to that change are the shared library components of the libraries that I wrote. I didn't feel that there was any bad influence from integrating them as LGPL into any sort of LabVIEW application, as they are fully dynamic anyways and by the nature of LGPL have no viral effect on the application that uses them.

ANN: Ajax4jsf . New Open Source project that brings AJAX capability to JSF
I would like to inform everybody about the new Open Source project - Ajax4jsf. It is hosted on java.net
URL: https://ajax4jsf.dev.java.net/
Ajax4jsf is a rich component framework that has been created exclusively to bring rich user interface functionality to the JavaServer Faces. It enables page-wide AJAX support instead of the traditional component-wide. It means you can define the event on the page that invoke AJAX request and area(s) of the page that should be synchronized with the JSF Component Tree after the AJAX request changes the data on the server according to the events fired on the client.
Actually, ajax4jsf is based on the framework, Alexander Smirnov introduced last summer ( http://smirnov.org.ru/en/ajax-jsf.html ) . He is an architect for ajax4jsf right now.
In addition to the features the previous version of his framework had, we already added the following:
* Framework for support easy change "look and feel" ( skinning )
* Support for handle off-page resources ( JavaScript, CSS styles, images, objects). Resources can be placed in application classpath ( for example, put in JAR), generated by program ( for example, paint images by Java2D or JAI ), with full caching support
* Templating system for easy creating components renderers ( using jsp-like xml template instead of direct call write...() methods )
* Special JTidy-based response filter - it can correct any HTML code from components to avoid incompatibilities with DHTML

Whats the best open source verilog simulator for T1 regressions?
Is Icarus good for this? Or, is there any other better than this.
I am new to this, if someone have used any free simulator with opensparc work then please let me know about which simulator you used and the advantages of it.I personally saw many uses of mySQL in production environments.
Generally speaking, lots of open-source solutions are being successfully used by lots of companies in their production environments, and the idea that they are somehow inferior to commercial solutions has no base in facts, in my view.
