Fully Reduced Screen brightness goes up by itself.

Hi everyone,
Not too long ago I realised that when I fully reduce my screen brigtness (to leave my laptop ON before going to sleep), my macbook air automatically (by itself) increases it slightly. In other words, instead of the screen being totally black at night, it becomes bright, which of course is not what I want. It never happened to me before, or may be I have never really paid too much attention to it.
I tried to look into my Energy Saver preferences, but I could not find anything unusual there. Has anyone of you experienced anything similar or may be you have a solution to my problem?
Thank you very much in advance.

Have you tried:  Go to system preferences>displays and check off "automatically adjust brightness as ambient light changes" ?

Try resetting the SMC and if that doesn't work then reset the PRAM too.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • How to reduce screen brightness below standard level

    Hi !
How to reduce screen brightness below standard level in ThinkPad T520 ?
I think it is possible somehow, but I don't know how. I reduced brightness to zero using Fn key + End key, but it's not enough, I want to make screen darker, because my eyes get tired.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The latest Intel graphics driver (from Lenovo) is here:
    http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/migr-77038
This should provide a decent lower bound to brightness. If the install complains about unsupported hardware, force the install using Device Manager and Have Disk. (Something like this: http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/11997-have-disk-method-for-windows-7-vista/ )
If that didn't work, try f.lux (https://justgetflux.com/). It has a software dimming feature (of course, this loses contrast).

  • Reduce screen brightness too soon on Highest performance setting

I think this issue is a fairly new one. I'm on Tiger with the latest security updates. But I want the screen brightness reduced, like an hour after no activity, not one minute while I'm on power adapter. Every setting is set like I want, Highest, etc for when it is on power. I can understand on battery I want it to be aggressive on saving power, but for AC ...

Hmmm, just checked on my iMac, and that is the file that holds that setting... does that stay unchecked between reboots?
That file also would seem to hold the Settings to use on Batery, but I wonder if Battery Models also have some other file that might affect it... can't tell here.
I wonder where the Performance settings all are?

  • MBP 2011 Screen brightness changing regardless of the ambient light

As stated in the subject my brand new MBP 2011 screen brightness changes on its own, yes i know about the ambient light sensor, but my screen is going from med brightness all the way to minimum brightness even though the ambient light is constant. yes I know i can turn it off, but why build in an ambient light feature that just makes the screen go to mimimum brightness when in a well lit room??
or do i have a faulty one??

I too have this problem on my spanking new MacBook Pro.  Called AppleCare and they said they weren't aware of this issue.
Meanwhile, this is my 1st mac.  Had it for a few weeks now.  Decided to open iTunes for the 1st time.  The whole MacBook Freezes, no mouse interactivity, reboot required.  This happens EVERY time I start iTunes which I no longer do.  Apparently it's a known issue which Apple has patched(unsuccessfully).  But hey c'mon, I mean iTunes?  This is one of the core apps which SHOULD be tested extensively against the hardware. When you consider Apple PROVIDES the hardware, this is simply unacceptable.  Unbelievable even.  I simply can't believe how poor this is from a major company.  But hey my MacBook Pro LOOKS GOOD right, so who cares if it's a technically malfunctioning piece of junk.
Here's my theory.  Is part of Apple's patch deliberately reducing screen brightness without user authorisation when the MacBook starts to overheat, all because they know they've been incompetent/negligent with their QA testing and the hardware can't handle the software?  If so, why have users not been informed?
I'm from Australia and we have this so-so comedian called Chris Lily who fans have taken to calling a genius, the joke amongst non-fans being the word genius has been dumbed down over the years to be almost meaningless.   Anyway, maybe a certified Apple 'genius' can explain the reasoning for the apparently deliberate brightness reductions?

  • How to configure screen-brightness of macbook to lowest value as default

    Hi,
setup: macbook 3,1 with external 24" display. Basicly the user is only using the external screen which is defined as main screen in this 10.5 installation.
    question is:
Is it possible to define the screen brightness of the macbook itself to lowest possible value ?
As the macbook screen is not used at all it would be great to disable the brightness or at least reduce it as much as possible. I can do that with the brightness-key, but that is only a session setting. not permanent.
    any ideas ?
    best regards
    fidel

    solved it with an applescript.

  • T400 screen brightness standby issue

When my T400 comes out of standby the screen brightness goes to 100% even though the Power Scheme prior to standby was lower than 100%.  This causes me to have to manually adjust the screen brightness.  Does anyone know how to prevent this from happening? I have the ATI video adapter and I am making power setting changes via the Power Manager.

Is everyone running XP with this issue?  I had the same problem when I got my brand new T400 and after 5 calls to tech support for this and quite a few other nuisance problems they gave me an RMA to send the thing back after I reloaded with an XP set they had sent me thinking I had received a bad copy of XP.  Day before I was going to send it back I went to reload it again to get my info I had loaded off.  Well for whatever reason I chose to load it with the Vista recovery discs instead and it took care of all of the nuisance problems!!  I have no idea why but its not an issue now, all I can figure is whatever software is not checking the brightness when it comes back from standby doesn't properly run with XP as with my few other nuisance issues.  I'm loading 7 this weekend, will update to let everyone know how it works.
(Other issues included the LAN/Bluetooh icons in the task bar next to the clock-even after telling them to "go away" in the properties they failed to do so.  Sometimes the screen wouldn't even come back on after coming out of standby so I'd have to blindly shut it down and reboot.  Wireless connection was sporatic and fingerprint softwarewas finicky in not letting me load fingerprints(that one was a driver update issue though)-Like I said, Vista took care of all of it, not that I'm endorsing Vista because I do bellieve Vista was a total failed attempt at an OS by Microsoft and was released WELL before it was ready and properly tested.  My guess is the software/drivers for all the hardware with issues were developed under vista so it'll work with XP but doesn't like to and will be finicky....)

  • After the last upgrade of OS X Mountain Lion I can't seem to adjust screen brightness anymore. Why and how do I solve this?

My screen brightness used to adjust itself and if not I could use f1 and f2 keys. After my last upgrade of OSX Mountain Lion, these do not seem to work. Does somebody know what happened and how I can return to the original situation?

  • My iPad keeps locking itself every few seconds, any ideas how to fix it... Drives me mad having to put my pass code in all the time and the screen keeps going blank :( HELP!

My iPad keeps locking itself every few seconds, any ideas how to fix it... Drives me crazy as the screen keeps going blank and I have to constantly put in my pass code every few seconds. Can someone help me out please. The pass code lock is set at 10 minutes but it's happening every few seconds :(

I've run into the issue and it seems to be related to an app not fully supporting the iOS you're on, the reboot doesn't usually solve it.
I've solved it in the following manner(s):
    1) Backup the device to iCloud, then erase the iPad (Content and Network Settings).
    2) Setup the iPad and choose to restore from iTunes/iCloud Backup (wherever you backed it up)
    3) Perform any software updates
I have not tried simply performing the software updates (which may fix it, but if it doesn't you won't be able to perform the above steps).
    Enjoy.

  • Screen Brightness reduces after Mac OS Update

I had updated my Mac OS to 10.6.3 from 10.6 on my macbook pro. I noticed after rebooting of my system, the screen brightness has reduced considerably. I reset the PRAM and noticed my brightness return back to normal lever but again reduced after login page appeared. Can someone provide me with a solution to the problem..

    Hi there,
I experienced exactly the same when I updated one of my Macs recently. I was running the update & the screen reduced it's brightness as it usually does before it goes to sleep & then once it had restarted as part of the installation process, the brightness was more or less at it's minimum setting. I increased it to it's usual setting & this was then retained as usual. You shouldn't notice any further reductions in brightness as I believe this is just due to the screen's powersave process kicking in during the installation.

  • Adjusting screen brightness- screen goes blank.

Hi, I'm a new macbook user as of today however there seems to be a problem with adjusting the screen brightness. When i move the little dot to adjust the brightness the screen just goes blank. There seems to bee no way of fixing this unless i turn the whole macbook off and restart it.
I am fully updated with the software and i cant think of anything else.
    Any help much appreciated

  • My ipod 4th gen i got from a friend is permently disabled and when i try to connect it to itunes and restore it it does it for a few minuites then thee ipod goes off that screen and turns on by itself and ive already done this a few time help please??

my ipod 4th gen which i got from a friend is permanently disabled and when i try to restore it, it starts to restore it then my ipod goes off the "connect to itunes" screen and turns on by itself and doesnt restore i need to know how to fix this problem??
    does anyone have any solutions?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • How can I reduce the brightness of my screen?

I installed WIndows 7 on my MAC and after installing the boot camp drivers, the screen went really bright.
I reduced the brightness to the lowest setting on my keyboard, but it is still bright.
The problem is not so much on the graphics, its more on the brightness of the white background & black text.
How can I reduce the brightness?

How can I reduce the brightness?
Start menu > control panel > appearance & personalization > display > calibrate color
I would adjust the keyboard setting back to midway before calibrating, this way you have some flexibility to use that again.

  • I can't reduce my screen brightness

this happened after i deragraded my system Hp 15-r005nia Notebook Pc from windows 8 to windows 7. ever since then i can't seem to reduce the screen brightness. please i need a solution to this problem.
Thanks i will be anxious to get a souution to this because it really affects my eyes each time i'm working.

    Sorry that driver didn't work.
It is for the Celeron N processors but I was hoping it would work for the Pentium N processors too.
Unfortunately, there is no solution to your problem other than to install W7 64 bit if you want to install W7.
There is a W7 64 bit driver for the Pentium N processors.
