G710 usb 3.0 problem - help!!!

Dear all,
I just bought a Lenovo G710 17inch laptop. I installed Windows 7 Home Premium, and all drivers, all devices in device manager are recognized and claiming to be functioning.
I face a problem with the usb 3.0 port:
- when I plug in my brand new toshiba canvio 3.0 hard drive I receive a message that I need to format the drive before I can use it. This message keeps presenting itself for the whole time the disk is plugged in (like a million times). If I select format disk, then the message keeps re-appearing. The format window at first did not appear at all and an error message appeared. Now after I tried some things, the format window appears but when I try to format there is a message saying that windows was unable to format the disk. The disk is working fine at another pc with usb 3.0 ports and also fine at the 2.0 port of this pc.
-when I plug in my intenso 3.0 hard drive it is recognized okay, but there is ridiculusly slow file transfer. For example, a 98MB file is tranfered in 3secs via the usb 2.0 port but it needs like 5minutes via the 3.0!!! For larger files transfer is almost impossible, and the estimated waiting time keeps getting bigger. The disk is working fine at another pc with usb 3.0 ports.
- the port seems to be a usb 3.0 port, it is blue, disks light up blue when connected but they have the issues I described above
- service guys didn't fix it... :/
I have tried re-installing the drivers, looking for other drivers, and other solutions posted in this forum but the problem remains...I am open to suggestions!!!! Help please!! Thanks!

I think the problem still lies in the drivers. Have you ever checked if the drivers you installed are totally compatible with your USB 3.0 or the devices? I've met several users who got the same problem with you. Now the key point is that you need to install the exact drivers for the USB 3.0. If you don't know whether the drivers are best-matched, you can have a try with DriveTheLife. It wil lhelp to automatically find the best drivers for your USB and then install the drivers. This article shows very clearly how to download and install USB drivers: http://www.drivethelife.com/windows-drivers/how-to-free-download-update-install-usb-driver-for-windo....

I plug in the usb compressor mic. Then I go and select it for my device. Next I select input 1 for my input and Out 1-2 for my out put under 0/l in the Audio 1 thing to the left of the screen. After it is selected I have no audio. As in, If I hit play nothing comes out, but I hit record and the mic records. Although the only way I can listen to what I have recorded is to select the built in mic for device. i need help cuz I cant hear the tempo or the instrumens when I record my vocals either. Please help. It is a MXL-Usb stereo compressor mic .007 if that helps

Try creating a Aggregated device in the Audio / MIDI set up utility. Use the mic as input and built-in for output. Then choose the aggregated device in logic express.
    This should work.

  • Windows 8 USB 3.0 Problems

I have run into many USB 3.0 problems across multiple devices and computers running Windows 8 Pro 64-bit. After many headaches and sleepless nights I think I have narrowed all the problems down to one thing in Device Manager:
"Intel (R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller -0100 (Microsoft)”
The controllers (Multiple Computers) have had problems with all the Microsoft Drivers including the most resent: 6.2.9200.16548 3/1/2013
    The problems:
USB 3.0 External Optical Drives (labeled Windows 8 compatible) not recognized or continuously disconnecting/reconnecting with or without manufacturers drivers.
USB 3.0 Flash drives running slow and/or disconnecting often with data corruption/loss
USB 3.0 Flash drives not recognized
My solution: <Disabled> “Intel xHCI Mode” or “XHCI Pre-Boot Mode” in BIOS/Firmware
    This solution Takes the
"Intel (R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller -0100 (Microsoft)” out of Device Manager and eliminates all the problems stated above across multiple machines running Windows 8 Pro 64-bit.
However: This is not a fix.
The Intel USB 3.0 controllers on the machines seam to only run at 2.0 speeds. (Before they were also slow but much less functional, often not recognizing devices)
Non-Intel USB 3.0 controllers are fully functional at full USB 3.0 speeds. (Before they had limited or no function depending on the controller)
This appears to be a fix for non-Intel USB 3.0 controllers but what about the Intel controllers that take the lion’s share of USB 3.0 controllers on the market?
Dose Microsoft have a fix for
"Intel (R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller -0100 (Microsoft)”
Is there a new Microsoft driver coming out soon? How about an Intel driver for Windows 8 like the one they have for 7?
Am I the only one who is being slammed with this problem from every windows 8 machine I touch? I have not seen a large amount of discussion on the internet with such a seemingly big thing like USB 3.0 not working with Windows 8!

Hi I guess I am going to add a few more flies to the ointment.
I have a serious issue with USB 3.0 and I would like to hope that somebody may have an answer even if they are unable to help.
I run three different computers, for three completely different purposes, they are of different makes, One is an Acer, the other is a Pryon and the third is a Toshiba, I also have 2 Toshiba laptops, one brand new running Windows 8, the other running
Windows 7. So basically what I am saying here probably has nothing to do with the systems I am running.
I guess a lot of people are getting swindled here by the hard drive manufacturers and everyone here seems to be blaming it on windows. I have spent thousands of dollars replacing all my old 2.0 drives (and some were getting a bit tired) with these new fangled
super duper super fast 3.0 drives. I think overall in the past year I have bought around thirty of them, mostly portables, but some desktop ones, all different brands too I might add, Seagate, Western Digital, Toshiba and Samsung. This as you can imagine has
cost me a lot of money. The data I had on the old 2.0 drives equated to about 20 years of my life. Out of the roughly thirty I have bought, nine of them have bit the dust so to speak. Nearly all, once they become unusable, come up with the same thing, "The
last USB device you connected to this computer is not recognised.
As an example I will recount exactly what has occurred with the last one to fail, which was today about 4 hours ago as I write this. It was working perfectly fine this morning, never gave off one indication that it may be about to fail. Then after a restart
(which incidentally I am wondering if anyone else has this problem whereby once they shut down their computer they have to either power off or remove every USB 3.0 device from their unit before the computer will even start - this happens on two of mine - but
    not on the Toshiba)
So I shut down, I am using a powered 9 port hub for most of the portables on this particular system (Pryon) which I have to power off so all the drives disappear else the computer just hangs at the boot screen until I have done this) I have one 2,0 disc
connected which I don't need to remove for the system to start.
Anyways once I have restarted the computer I then re-power up the hub and all the drives are loaded again and away I go. Well that was all good except when I checked one of my drives was missing from the File manager that I use (Salamander) and also not
showing in Windows Explorer either. So I trace down the culprit, unplug it and re-plug it back in. Lo and behold up comes the afore-mentioned windows does not recognize this device. This is odd given that there are five other drives of the exact same make
and model attached to the same hub still working. As I don't have all the slots in the hub filled I decide to change the slot and plug it into a different one. Same result. So then I decide to plug it into a 3.0 slot connected directly to the box, same result.
As a last try I then plug it into a 2.0 slot on the box, same result. So then I take it out and try it on the other two boxes and eventually the laptop...same result....
I now have nine of these contraptions all totally useless to me....yes I guess I could send em back to Seagate and Toshiba and Western Digital and they will replace em with a brand new one...clean as a whistle with my twenty years up the poop chute....
I have looked everywhere through Google trying to find someone or somebody with the same problem as me, surely I cannot be the only person in Australia that happens to keep on getting the duds.
I've had 2.0 drives that have lasted ten years or more and probably may have went another ten if I didn't keep so called upgrading....some of these that have failed on me are not even 3 months old. I even had one desktop 3.0 drive that I bought on the Wednesday
in Adelaide and by the time I had gotten it home after my son had copied some stuff onto it..it wouldn't work.
I have tried just about everything I've ever read on these forums, like using a different cable, Ive even pulled one of the portable to pieces to be able to use an attachment that I can plug it directly into a 3.0 slot and still nada....
My newest laptop is still under warranty and I have had that back to the supplier twice with a main hard drive failure which they have had to replace.
The reason why I am suggesting here that it may not be all windows fault is that my other laptop is still running windows seven and once a drive cacks it it wont show up in that either....I will say this though, I only have one drive that I use in that laptop
and that is still running well.
Now before everybody jumps down my throat I have checked thoroughly for viruses on all my boxes, and they all are clean. And in anycase I've never heard yet about a virus that can attack one hard drive only, given that all that is on there is music, just
    like the other six.
Unless windows eight itself somehow manages to render a hard drive useless somehow then it has to be a fault in the manufacturing technology and that even though a drive might work perfectly for a week or two there is something there that the manufactures
    are missing in their testing.
Like someone said earlier, maybe it is going to take some massively big law-suit from a huge company that has lost everything against somebody for them to realise that USB 3.0 is tainted and no good.
Do they still make 2.0 cause I am going back there and hopefully I can do it before I lose everything, even though it will take a good part of six months to copy back over whatever it is that I still may have left....
Like I said I don't expect any answers but thank you for taking the time to at least read this...
    Cheers Vern

  • Lost write privileges to external USB hard drive- please help!

    Hi,
I've got an external Western Digital 250GB USB hard drive that has been chugging along just fine until about a month ago, when somehow I seemed to have lost write privileges to the top level directory. I"m not sure if this happened when I installed an Mac OS update, or what, as I use the drive as backup and didn't notice it for a while.
The drive appears in the sidebar with a tiny lock icon, and when I try to copy a file from my internal HD to the external (top level directory, or drag the items right onto the icon), the following things happen:
Dialog box says "The item "foo" cannot be moved because "External HD" cannot be modified", with an authenticate button, which I then click.
After I authenticate, I get the error msg "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items."
But I *CAN** copy files directly into a folder that already exists on the external drive, but I cannot create new folders in the top level directory.
I have tried the following, to no avail:
    1) "get info" on the external drive, checkign the permissions. In the Ownership and Permissions section, it says "You can Read & Write", and under details:
Owner: my account (dimmed) and access level is "read & write".
Group: my account (dimmed) Access: Read only
    Others: No access
Ignore ownership on this volume (unchecked).
The fact that my account was named both as owner and group seemed odd, since in Group the access was "read only". I clicked on the little lock icon next to Owner, authenticated, and was allowed to change the Group settings. I changed the Group access to "read & Write", but it's not "sticking" -- when I close teh details field and reopen it, or close the get info window and reopen, the Group access settings go back to "read only".
    2) I've also, of course, tried repairing permissions on my internal startup drive, which did not help the matter. Also in Disk Utility, I verified/repaired the offendin external USB drive (no problems), Verify/Repair permissions were dimmed for this drive (I assume becuase it doesn't have MacOS X installed on it?)
    3) Searched the forums, Western Digital support, etc. and I cannot seem to figure out what has gone wrong.
    4) When I connect the drive to another computer (my iBook) the situation is the same. Also, when I create a new admin user account and try to access the drive from that account, I still cannot write to the drive.
Thanks, I appreciate any tips or pointers.

The drive appears in the sidebar with a tiny lock icon, and when I try to copy a file from my internal HD to the external (top level directory, or drag the items right onto the icon), the following things happen:
Open the Terminal in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and enter the following:
    chflags nouchg
followed by a space; next, drag the disk into the Terminal window and press Enter. The lock should now be gone.
The fact that my account was named both as owner and group seemed odd, since in Group the access was "read only".
Recent versions of Mac OS X create a group with the same name whenever you create an account from the Setup Assistant or System Preferences. The Group permissions don't apply in this case.
I changed the Group access to "read & Write", but it's not "sticking" -- when I close teh details field and reopen it, or close the get info window and reopen, the Group access settings go back to "read only".
Did you get an error message after doing this?
Verify/Repair permissions were dimmed for this drive (I assume becuase it doesn't have MacOS X installed on it?)
That is correct. The Repair Permissions mechanism uses data from the /Library/Receipts/ folder on a disk to function, and this data is only present on disks which have Mac OS X installed.

hi friends i have mac ibook g4 i know its a really old model but its perfectly fine it has installed mac os x 10.5.8 ok whenever i copy and paste anything it says no free space weather i copy from folder to desktop or from usb to mac plz help plz

There is no download for 10.4.x or 10.5.x, there is a very slim chance you can get 10.5 by calling Apple, but usually you can only get it on eBay & such.
    Tiger Requirements...
To use Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, your Macintosh needs:
        * A PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor
        * Built-in FireWire
        * At least 256 MB of RAM (I recommend 1GB minimum)
        * DVD drive (DVD-ROM), Combo (CD-RW/DVD-ROM) or SuperDrive (DVD-R) for installation
        * At least 3 GB of free disk space; 4 GB if you install the XCode 2 Developer Tools  (I recommend 20GB minimum)

    Leopard requirements/10.5.x...
        *  Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
    minimum system requirements
        * 512MB of memory (I say 1.5GB for PPC at least, 2-3GB minimum for IntelMacs)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
    Classic/OS9 Apps no longer supported.
May be available from Apple again...

    greetings
    i m using a 1.0 rev A2, e5200, corsair ddr1066, antec ea500, galaxy 250
its running 333*11.5(3831mhz) with memory at 1:1.6 (533mhz)
voltages are all at auto except 2.10 for the ddr1066
it is all stable however during booting up it freezes at "initializing usb.." message if i have my printer or game controller plugged(both usb)
cap lock and num lock dont flash and i have to hold the power button to turn it off.
i always have mouse and wifi modem connected via usb but they are not affected.
the problem doesnt exist if its not overclocked.
it sometimes doesnt freeze if its a restart.
the bios was 1.6 and ive tried the beta 1.7b9 which didnt solve, neither did upgrading to the current power unit
also tried disabling usb legacy but didnt help. disabling usb helped but obviously i m not able to use the devices.
besides this, i cant get higher fsb than 350 with both bios, didnt change voltage for northbridge(which i doubt if its needed for 400ish), i did lower multiplier and memory ratios to previous working clocks.
any experience related will be appreciated, let me know if further information needs to be provided
    thanks

OK, you have a different CPU and that may be the limiting factor here. You can of course request the latest beta BIOS from MSI. I suggest you do that as it did wonders for my board.
Also can you check on your PSU there should be a label with the full PSU power specifications. Please check the 12V1 and 12V2 rails amps and the max combined amps for the 12V rails.

    Dear All,
I've been trying to update my Belkin Skype Phone (F1PP000GN-SK) from version: 1.1.0.10 R20 to version: 1.1.0.22R20 from the belkin support site.

    Kindly someone help me pls.

I believe the original drivers packaged with the Belkin installer/flasher may work on the 32-bit version of Windows 7, but will not work with the 64-bit version.  Since I do own this phone, I decided to resolve this problem for myself as well.  Even though they are not available from Belkin, I was able to track down and extract/modify the latest drivers/inf for this phone.
You will need to extract and browse to these files using device manager to get the device installed.  You will get a warning about the files being unsigned, proceed anyway to finish installing the device.    Before flashing you will either have to disconnect/reconnect the phone or press the "#" key to refresh it.  Once it starts flashing DO NOT disconnect the device.  I've reflashed my phone several times without issue.
If the reason behind upgrading it is to resolve a freeze, the upgrade may not fix it.  You would want to downgrade to the original release.  That will generally resolve the issue.  After that, you can flash it to the latest release.
My version of the latest drivers for Windows XP/Vista/7/8 (32/64-bit unified inf) are available from the following location:

  • K9VGM-V USB 2.0 problems

I'm assembling systems based on K9VGM-V motherboards.
They all have the strange behaviour that the front USB 2.0 ports , not always are recognised by Windows as 2.0
Sometimes they are reported as 1.0.
The USB ports on the back of the motherboard , are always working as 2.0.
Tested other brands of motherboards in same cases with the same USB apparatus , no problems.
All the K9VGM-V boards i tested have the same strange behaviour.
Who can help ?. Even bios update did'nt solve the problem.

MSI's USB configuration has the #10 pin set as OC(overcurrent), but many cases have a 9th wire(you only need 8 wires) leading to the #10 pin as a GROUND. This is where the problem occurs.  It is likely, that the "other" MOBOs that work may have the #10 pin, but it is not electrically connected and that's why you don't have an issue. BTW, Have you checked to see if you can remove the wire leading to the #10 pin on the USB header block of the case?  For my case, there is a tab you can lift to pull out a wire.  If you aren't going to cut or remove anything, then I guess you'll need to get a USB PCI card and use that instead.
MOBO drivers are the chipset drivers; the VIA 4in1. http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=260

    Michael,
Thanks. I haven't mixed down the audio or checked the number of tracks in Prefs. Good points.
As far as a mixdown goes, I'll definitely give it a try, though I wonder whether or not the tracks will be recognized during mix down recording - given that you can't hear either of those segments in playback. Just have to try.
Re the preferred number of allowed tracks - I'll go check as soon as I send this off, but I'm not sure that applies in this case, since the two Channels containing the segments that are pinked out are not in additional tracks. I should have mentioned that other audio clips and segments on the same Channels in the SAME tracks ARE heard in playback. As are two additional track in the 2nd Sequence. It's only when the two sequences are joined that the pink tinted segments can't be heard. Within the sequence the same audio cuts playback as they should. Thanks again &

If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup).
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.
You may have to force iPad/iPod into Recovery Mode
