Garageband 4.1.2 Hangs on Record

I can't say if this is a new problem or not as I hadn't tried to do anything with Garageband before, but I've been having this problem while trying to record a podcast. Everytime I try to start voice recording by clicking the red record button I then get the beachball, and then have to do a force quit because its no longer responding. I'm current on all my updates, Garageband and otherwise. And the same thing has happened to me with all three of our Macs that it's installed on (all three are running OS X 10.5.3, two are MacBook Pro and one is MacPro). So something isn't as it should be and I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this?

Sorry, meant that I'd looked at it and then checked both permissions and deleted preferences. The Garageband permissions were fine, and there was apparently nothing wrong with the permissions. And after doing the above, no change to the symptoms. Hence my saying nothing applicable, so then I posted.
However....it did dawn on my just now that the single difference between trying this on three Macs that all had hangs and the MacAir that didn't is that with the MacAir I simply booted it up and gave recording a quick try. With my others I'd been working from my USB thumb drive for the file. And now on this MacBook Pro I copied the file to the hard drive and worked from that, and it worked. So it appears that Garageband may be working fine...but whenever I try to work from a thumb drive it hangs. So that appears to be a problem.
So I think my question has now become, has anyone else had problems working from files located on USB drives?

When I quit garageband it says it is still recording. How do I stop this?

When I quit Garageband a red banner appears at the top saying that Garageband is recording. I have checked Garageband again and no tracks are recording. When the Ipad is switched off it seems to run the battery down to nothing. Could Garageband be still recording when switched off? Next thing to try might be to delete it and re-install.

How long does the red banner stay up for? If it is just a few seconds then GarageBand should just be saving the current state of your open song as a background process, after which it quits properly. I've found I can sometimes get the red bar to stay up on screen if I use a double hit of the home button to switch to another running process. In this case GarageBand may stay active in the background until you return to it rather than exiting normally. (I was trying to see if GarageBand actually records audio in this mode but as far as I can tell it can't)

Compare ipad2 with ipad3, garageband for acoustic guitar and voice recording, backing tracks.

I am interested in purchasing an ipad for recording music using garageband, acoustic guitar & vocals, and using to add rhythm/bass, to create tracks to use in performing solo gigs.
After reading about problems many were experiencing with NOISE after upgrading to an ipad3, and a GB upgrade, I am not sure if this
is a viable purchase. If this is my main use of the ipad (along with itunes, chart storage and general use for solos gigs), should I be going in this direction, or more of a simple recording studio?
Is ipad2 just as good as ipad3 for this main purpose?
Any advice would be helpful,

Assuming it does not have a pickup, any instrument that the microphone picks up can be recorded.
(If it does have a pickup, you can probably just plug it in.)
GarageBand is simply a fancy tape recorder. Anything that can be converted to an audio frequency electrical signal can be recorded.
Unless this is like the joke where the man with the broken hand asks his doctor whether he will be able to play the violin when his hand heals. "Sure." the doctor replies. "That's great!" says the man, "I couldn't play it before!"

Using Garageband and I cannot hear previously recorded tracks on headphones. Prefs are set to output on EMU0404 my audio device - this did work but now is not working.

All cables check out OK and so does the unit - I have updated to the latest version of Garageband but this did not help. Any suggestion?

I cannot see anything wrong with the EMU0404. This is what puzzels me ... Garageband looks OK - headphones are OK - EMU looks OK.

Captivate 6 Hangs while recording video demo and software simulation

I am running captivate 6 on windows 7 SP1 64 bit operating system. Captivate 6 hangs whenever I tried to record video demo or software simulation. I am running captivate 6 as an administrator.

Thank you for contacting Adobe Support.
Please use the following steps and let us know if it solves the issue:
1) Try recreate preferences for Adobe Captivate (For this close captivate and navigate to the location C:\Users\your account name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Captivate and rename the captivate folder)
2) Try creating a new Admin user account on your system and then try the simulation.

SQL query execution in DB02 hangs if record set is more than 50000

Hi,
We are facing issue in a report performance. The return is using native SQL query.
There are custom views created ar database level for pricing/maetrial and stock. The native sql query is written on these views. The report takes around 15 mins to run in background .
We are trying to analyse the native SQL query through DB02. I tried fetching records for one particular
custom view to make out if its indexing issue or something else.When i using TOP 35000 records with select query runs fine with this dataset or less than this . If i increase it to 40000 system doesn;t show anything in SQL ouptut. And above one lakh records system gives timeout.
The count in this view gives some 10 lakh records which I don't feel is v.v.huge that query that too native sql takes so much time.
Any help on this will be highly appreciated.

what do you expect from that poor information.
do you change data or onyl select.
If you use SAP and ABAP, then you should also use Open SQL.
Otherwise it is possible to run the SQL Trace with Native SQL, it is anyway only Native SQL, what the trace sees.
Use package size and it will probably work fine.

Recording a DJ mix on Garageband...only able to record an hour?

Hi, I'm trying to record my latest mix but the track stops recording after just over one hour, Is there a way to extend record time, i'm making sure I have plenty of disk space, have 6gig spare and the current mixes of just over the hour are only 800Mb so far so this doesn't seem to be the problem, and I make sure all other programs are closed. I haven't found any other options so far, can anyone offer any advice? Thanks.
Also, I'm recording directly from my mixer, I take it I need to record the track as a 'real instrument' as opposed to the 'record as software instrument' option.

Garageband 10.0.1 Drum kit recording problem

I just want to record some tracks with "drum kit". The track shows the MIDI-signals, and I can here the audio output, but the recording-button ignores any klick.

Garageband '11 missing metronome settings (during recording/play)

Hi All,
After updating to GB '11, there's no "advanced" settings for metronome anymore in the "preferences". I couldn't find it in any other menu either.
So, now i can't select whether it's only on during recording/play, it's just on or off. Have anyone else experienced this? It can't be that they removed this option? Or am i really missing something, like that there's a new way to control that setting or something?

I really can't understand the reason why they removed it. It shouldn't bother anyone to have that option, but it sure as **** bothers me to not have that option anymore! This has nothing to do with "making everyone happy", unless thousands of people really had complained about having that setting available and i really really doubt that's the case. As far as i know, that option has been there for years?
I don't see how it would make it harder for someone to work with GB if that option was still there???. You can still turn the metronome on or off. That was just basic but smart little option that every beginner level, semi-professional and professional DAW i've ever tried or seen has.
Fortunately i still have GB '09 in Macbook and it is going to stay that way.

In GarageBand '08 after 2 seconds the recording volume fades to a low level

When I record the volume fades in... It goes to recording just fine then within two seconds it fades to low volume!!!??? I havnt touched any settings it worked fine when i first got it! Then all of the sudden i go to record and it does this... it did the same thing on my last comp last year , i took it in for a repair and asked the mac genius he did something and it worked fine again...
didnt know what he did..i thought it was push the follow project tempo button, (tried this it doesnt work?) Has anyone had this problem?

Try this...
Go to "System Preferences" and select "Sound" under the "Hardware" panel. Select "Input" on the bar and in the "Internal microphone" section, un-click the box on the "Use Ambient Noise Reduction" area. This fixed the problem with the sound "fading out" after 2 seconds on a record.

Is there anyway to record more than one track at a time on garageband for ipad?

GarageBand for iPad only allows to record on one track at a time. That is the selcted one that turns into the Instrument View where the actual recording is done.
If multi-track recording is in the works, nobody know except Apple and they won't usually pre-announce that kind a things. My guess, it will not be implemented.

Can't record in garageband, and no region is being made

I've tried restart Garageband, reinstalling Garageband, but no matter what I do, record seems completely broken and no region is showing up (the region that shows the audio levels and is generally color coded).
I don't seem to have any .plist preferences for Garageband in the Library directory either, so I can't delete that.
I have double and triple checked my audio input preferences. I've tried changing from my mic to my laptop mic to auto and back again.
No luck.
Help??
EDIT: If I select the built-in microphone of my macbook air I get the message "No input device selected," but I can record in Audacity so it's definitely not a hardware problem...

What kind of instrument are yo trying to record? And what kind of track have you selected for recording? Are you using GarageBand '11 or the newest version GarageBand 10.0?

Which places have you checked?
GarageBand > Preferences > Audio?
Is the "record enable" button on for the track? Do you see the any input signal in the volume slider area?
Did you check the strings in the Audio Midi Setup Utility?

I'm using GarageBand for voiceover and my voice is only recording in one track. How do I get it in stereo?

I'm using a Bluebird mic hooked up to speakers and MAudio Fast Track interface. I went to GarageBand preferences and set up the recording for MAudio and stereo but it's still recording in mono. Any suggestions?

I've successfully connected my Yamaha keyboard to record the Software instruments in Garageband.
Conversely, how do I record the voices built into my Yamaha keyboard onto Garageband?

Garageband - I set it up but it is not recording

I am transfering an audio to a CD on garageband. When I press the Record buttom and play the tape recorder, it does not seem to be recording the input to the computer. The play head moves across but the red bar does not indicate recording.

I don't know what that means. You will have to tell us a lot more about your setup. And what you mean by "the red bar".
