GC: meaning / interpreting the log messages of -verbose:gc / PrintGCDetails

Hello,
i have a webapp running in tomcat 4 and at some point in time the whole app starts running very slow. after some debugging and experiencing with VM settings, especial GC logging settings i saw that the consumed memory from NewGen is never free'd, and, if i understand correct, is not copy'd to OldGen. Are the new objects allocated in OldGen? The GC there is able to free memory everytime GC runs, but the time for that collection is very long, and i think the reason why our app runs so slow ...
Can anybody explain me the behaviour of the VM? (Java version: 1.4.2_06)

  • What means is the log message? Thanks

    Hi, everyone:
    I have installed the Database 10g and Database Companion under the RedHat Linux ES3 successful.
    But after start the Apache server using the command
    opmnctl startall
    there are very many log message
    ...(date time)... [4] Local connection 0,127.0.0.1,6100 missing form factor
    are written to the log file opmn/logs/ons.log.
    What means is the log message and how I correct the error?
    Thank you very much!

    IT 267 is the Additional Offcycle Payments. For Example Bonus/ Car Allowance / Re-imbursement etc. as you configure in your system. In Off cycle workbench (TCODE = PUOC_10), when you are executing the Payroll for "Additional Payment", we can also see IT0267.
    For Log, select "Display Log" in the program RPCALCU0(US payroll). You can run payroll in the SIM mode and see the log.
    For Offcycle, I think you need to look at the Payroll result table (TCODE = pc_payresult) and check the cluster table for the Pay Period.
    Hope this helps !

  • What Does The Log Message "Rejecting update: Lease..." Mean?

    I use RelicatedCache and TransactionMap on Coherence 3.4.2.
    I saw "Rejecting update: Lease..." message.
    What does the log message mean?
    2011/10/18 06:41:57.506 [DEBUG] Logger@9263394 3.4.2/411p16 N/A NOAH Coherence 3.4.2/411p16 [D4] (thread=ReplicatedCache, member=2): Rejecting update: Lease: [-8863526970089418959, -2793231267399579492, R] (Cache=issue-code, Size=Unknown, Version=0/0, IssuerId=1, HolderId=0, Status=LEASE_AVAILABLE, Last locked at Thu Jan 01 09:00:00 JST 1970)

    I found a Note 1065352.1, but the message is little differnt...
    Note 1065352.1
    "What Does The Log Message "Rejected update: Lease..." Mean?"I'd like to know following 2 points..
    - What does "Rejecting update: Lease..." message mean?
    Do thsese messages have same meaning?
    - My application didn't catch any exceptions, and
    "CacheFactory.commitTransactionCollection" returned true.
    So this "Rejecting update: Lease..." is not a error message, right?
    (Does the transaction commited successfully?)
    Thanks in advance.

  • Redock the log/message window in it's orginial place at the bottom?

    How do I re-dock the log/message window in it's orginal place at the bottom? When ever I try re-docking it goes to the left side of the screen. I can drag and float the window back done to the bottom but I would prefer for it to go back to it's orginal position. I've located the windowinglayout.xml file but not really sure what I should change.
    JDeveloper: 10.1.3.3
    Thanks

    Ok if I'm following you correctly I dragged the undocked Message-log window down to the bottom of the code editor. The dragged window is violet/purple color with the following verbiage "Use Ctrl key to prevent docking Use Esc key to cancel ". I let go of the window and it is now floating there. I want it to dock instead of float at this location. What exactly is the drop indicator?
    Thanks,
    Russ

  • JNI Hotspot Error: Access Violation, need help interpreting the log.

    Hello. I'm a relatively new developer (previously an engineer), and so to start me off I was given the task of providing a JNI-enabled interface to some legacy licensing software (it's C++, we want Java). Now the functionality of JNI is not the problem I have. I HAD those types of problems but now I'm having a far more obscure problem that is absolutely stumping me.
    It's a Hotspot error that I cannot get rid off... and I cannot find a clear bit of info on how to interpret them.
    About the problem...first off this does not happen on my development machine, where it is isolated from other components in the end-product. The integration machine with the rest of the software runs fine with a "Dummy" version of my component, but we get errors when the real version is in use. I'd really appreciate any help in understanding these things, even if it is just some general pointers.
    First off here is the log

    {code}
    Sorry it's so long.
    Anyways my dll is Jni_interface.dll. It loads legacy.dll, and its dependents. Other code also uses these libraries.
    *So question 1* :
    I load the jni_interface.dll (and also the legacy.dll and its dependents) library at the start of execution in a static class and so it is never unloaded. I do this because the legacy.dll will be calling functions in my Jni_Interface.dll, which are propagated into the Java class on top of it all. Does this stop other code from loading the legacy.dll or from using its functionality?
    *On to question 2*:
    Here is the logged output from my library, immediately before the crash:
    {code:java}
          ***     JNI INTERFACE LIB - LOG 21 Jul 08 19:11:35.682     *** Log Level = DEBUG
    21 Jul 08 19:11:35.698 - Level[ info ] -          Thread[ 716 ]     :: initRegistry     Registry initialisation ok
    21 Jul 08 19:11:35.760 - Level[ info ] -          Thread[ 716 ]     :: vPersistData     vPersistData() called
    21 Jul 08 19:11:35.823 - Level[ debug ] -     Thread[ 716 ]     :: doVoidCallback() [ persistDataHandler ]       Signature  = (I)V
    21 Jul 08 19:11:35.823 - Level[ debug ] -     Thread[ 716 ]     :: doVoidCallback() [ setMaxUsageHandler ]       Signature  = (I)V
    21 Jul 08 19:11:35.838 - Level[ info ] -          Thread[ 716 ]     :: Constructor     _instance is instantiated
    21 Jul 08 19:11:35.838 - Level[ info ] -          Thread[ 716 ]     :: initiateLegacy()     JniManager initialisation successful
    21 Jul 08 19:11:35.838 - Level[ info ] -          Thread[ 716 ]     :: initiateLegacy()     Initial state is NORMAL
    21 Jul 08 19:11:35.838 - Level[ debug ] -     Thread[ 716 ]     :: getLicense()     Get request
    21 Jul 08 19:11:36.010 - Level[ debug ] -     Thread[ 716 ]     :: getLicense()     Get request
    {code}
    Now notice that the current thread in the Hotspot output is NOT the thread in my library. Thread 716 is a java thread by the way. This log appears absolutely fine according to me. Also note that in the hotspot log there is no mention of my java component  (the "boss" class), which is called LegacyLM. So does that mean that is in not to do with my code even though the problem only occurs when my component is included? Or is this just the cryptic nature of these problems?
    *Question 3*:
    If you see the heap section of the report, there are 3 items that I have highlighted that seem like very high values. Is this a possible cause of a crash? Or would I have received an "Out of space" error instead?
    In terms of actual code, I cannot post much, but I can tell you what I have done to try to solve the problem:
    (i) I have added mutex synchronisation to most of my shared variables.
    (ii) I have used monitorEnter and MonitorExit to control callback access to my java class.
    (iii) I have re-organised my code and replaced nearly every occurance of non-string character arrays with string equivalents.
    (iv) I changed how I attach and detach my threads so that I only attach/detach ones that previously were not (i.e. I leave java threads alone)
    As I said at the start, I am utterly confused and I don't have much of an idea about how to proceed. I'd really really appreciate a pointer or two.
    Thanks in advance.
    D

    For those of you who might be interested, I found a solution to this problem (my version, at least). In my situation, this was caused by attempting to access the fields of a ActionEvent object in VC++ by casting a variant to a BSTR. While the cast "worked", it somehow caused the state of the Java plugin or the AxBridge DLL to get flummoxed, causing the VM dump far downstream.
    The takehome message?
    When seeing problems like this in the plugin / ActiveX bridge, do not assume that the causative error is occuring in the location noted in the stack trace. Visual C++, in all of its gory unprotected glory, gives full memory access to the DLL interface and you can do a serious fandango on the VM core. that won't necessarily bite you until later.
    PS -- Sun gurus ... does this present a security violation in the Java paradigm?

  • The log message :%OS-OBFLMGR-7-QUEUE_LIMIT_OVER

    Hi
    There is a log message.
    obflmgr[67]: %OS-OBFLMGR-7-QUEUE_LIMIT_OVER : The queue:5008d2c8 for device:configflash: entry_num:101 and the max limit:100. The new request for temperature will be discarded.
    How to resovle the problem ? And wha is the meaning of "OBFLMGR"? Thank you for your help .

    OBFL is on-board failure logging, this is a subsystem that contiuously logs all environmental data to the bootflash: of the router boards, so our development can identify trends & root causes in case of multiple long-term hardware failures, for example.  Here a file got corrupted during the multiple read/write, it can happen.
    Try the following, where x is the linecard reporting the error:
    (admin)#clear logging onboard corrupted-files location 0/x/CPU0
    Clear logging onboard corrupted-files [confirm] [y/n] :y
    If that doesn't stop the mesage you can manually delete the files starting with 'temp' on the bootflash of the affected board.
    This has no impact on router operations.

  • Robocopy Log File - Skipped files - Interpreting the Log file

    Hey all,
    I am migrating our main file server that contains approximately 8TB of data. I am doing it a few large folders at a time.  The folder below is about 1.2TB.  Looking at the log file (which is over 330MB) I can see it skipped a large number of files,
    however I haven't found text in the file where it specifies what was skipped, any idea on what I should search for?
    I used the following Robocopy command to transfer the data:
    robocopy E:\DATA Z:\DATA /MIR /SEC /W:5 /R:3 /LOG:"Z:\Log\data\log.txt"
    The final log output is:
                    Total    Copied   Skipped  Mismatch    FAILED    Extras
         Dirs :    141093    134629      6464         0         0         0
        Files :   1498053   1310982    160208         0     26863       231
        Bytes :2024.244 g1894.768 g 117.468 g         0  12.007 g  505.38 m
        Times :   0:00:00  18:15:41                       0:01:00 -18:-16:-41

        Speed :            1770.781 MegaBytes/min.

    I assume some are files that are in use but others may be permissions issues, does the log file detail why a file is not copied?
    TIA
    Carl

    Hi.
    Files that are skipped are files that already exists. Files that are open/permissions etc will be listed under failed. As Noah said use /v too see which files were skipped. From robocopy /?:
    :: Logging Options :
    /V :: produce Verbose output, showing skipped files.

  • Not able to see GC information in the logs even if verbose:gc is set

    Hi,
    We have IAS 6.0 SP4.
    My iasenv.ksh script is set to :
    if [ "$script" = "kjs" ]
    then
    ## Set all User Level JVM flags for KJS here.
    SPACE=" "
    # set this variable to YES to run SmartHeap enabled kjs
    MEMOPT_KJS=YES
    ## Desired JVM flags. A grab bag of interesting JVM Tuning options:
    ## -Xoptimize -verbose:gc -Xss512k -Xms128m -Xmx256m -Xgenconfig:32m,32m,se
    mispaces:64m,512m,markcompact
    ## Read the Solaris JDK 1.2.2 FAQ for more information.
    JAVA_ARGS="-Xgenconfig:64m,64m,semispaces:64m,128m,markcompact -Xss512k -ve
    rbose:gc -Xms128m -Xmx196m"
    I tried to change the position of the verbose:gc to different places - still I don't see any GC information logged to KJS.
    Am I missing some thing?
    Thanks in advance
    Sangeeta

    Sangeeta,
    Just try with <b>"-verbose"</b> option in JAVA_ARGS (no :gc).
    Should you require further information, get back.
    Thanks visiting our forum,
    Rakesh.

    I was having multiple kernel panics with the current version of Sophos with Mavericks, too.
    To the OP - use the Sophos uninstaller and your kernel panics should stop.

  • Ipod Nano not recognized by itunes but appears on the explorer. Log message

    My ipod doesn't appear on itunes but is recognized by windows. It used to work before.
    I have found several answers to this problem but no one can't solve the problem : 5R, Terminal Service, Ipod Service, Restore, Reset, Usb, Last version of Itunes....
    With the last version of Itunes, I have launched the diagnotisc and the result is four green led.
    I have recorded the log file and into this one there are few message that show errors (I have copied only interesting messages):
    [SERVICE: 0x140,08:48:25 ERROR] Did not find first letter of stage
    [SERVICE: 0x980,08:51:21 INFO] Device 1 not in intermediate state. It appears to be truly mounted.
    [SERVICE: 0x980,08:51:21 INFO] File does not exist!
    [SERVICE: 0x980,08:51:21 INFO] [1] CreateFileW error 0x3
    [SERVICE: 0x980,08:51:21 INFO] [1] WriteNewPrefs FAILED!
    [SERVICE: 0x980,08:51:21 INFO] [1] ReadDevicePreferences() failed!
    I can't understand these messages but I have the feeling that they have a relation with the hidden file Preferences store in ipod_control\device
    When I tried to open Preferences with "bloc note" of windows it doesn't work. Maybe this file is corrupted seen that I can open the file "SysInfo" which is in the same repertory. When I format the Ipod with FAT32, these files reappeared with the next power on and I have always same problem.
    Does anyone know if this file "Preferences" is readable with a valid iPOD?
    What mean "Did not find first letter of stage?" of the log message?
    Thanks for your answers,
    Nicolas

    If its brand new and doing this, return it with receipt.

  • Interpreting DNS log

    I got a 2008 server with 2 NIC, one public, the other private. The public NIC should register its A record, and it does, which is good. The private should NOT register its record - we disabled the option accordingly in TCP/IP stack - but the record comes
    back from time to time(very far and few between). I am suspecting something other than the NIC is doing the registration, so I enabled DNS log. Below is one entry from the log coming from the server itself. But my question is not about how the record was registered
    - I am still working on it - instead, my question is how to interpret the log below. It seems that the server is regstering the private IP based on the entry, but I don't see the record created in DNS. Same update request can be seen in log quite often.
    In short, record for private IP is NOT getting created most of the time while the log says otherwise. What gives?

    Hi,
    Firstly, please refer to the link below to better understand the DNS log:
    http://www.zytrax.com/books/dns/ch15/#rdata
    In addition, did you mean that the DNS server was multihomed (with two NICs)? If yes, please refer to the links below:

    we want to know the cause of this log messages and how to solve them quickly.

    correct. "use the same format as received" means if the original message was sent as HTML, plain text, or RTF, when you reply or forward, keep the message as HTML, RTF, or plain text.
    Some mail programs also have an option to automatically make any forwarded message an attachment instead of allowing your response to be added to the top.
    It may not be in options....I just found an article reading:
    To forward the message as a message, choose Message > Forward, or click the Forward button in the toolbar. To forward the message as an attachment, choose Message > “Forward as Attachment.”
    You can set options for forwarding messages, including whether to quote the text of the original message and increase the quote level, as well as how much of the original text to include. Choose Mail > Preferences, click Composing, and then use the options in the Responding section.
    So the as attachment or as inline text may lurking under the Compose preference

  • Log Messages from Transaction Event Logger

    I have 4 instances of MII v12.1 and within a transaction I want to add a message to the log when the transaction runs so I can view it through the message logger. All 4 MII instances were installed by the same consultant a few years ago so there "should" be no differences in the log configs. On 3 of the instances this is working fine - I have created a very simple transaction with one Event Logger action configured with a message "Test Message" and when I execute the transaction I see the correct entry in the log viewer. On the fourth however, although the transaction executes without error I am not seeing anything in the viewer for this event. I am using the standard "last 24 hours" log viewer with no filters and no specific log locations selected, and no customisations. I am seeing other system generated messages. I found some documentation about logging and the viewer and I found the Netweaver log config but as far as I can see it looks consistent between the instance which is working and the one which is not working. Is there some other config which needs to be done to enable Event Logging from transactions? My user has the same access across all instances. Any guidance would be appreciated. I attach a screen shot of what I am expecting to see (taken from one of the instances which is working).

    Hi Partha
    Many thanks for your reply. I have tried this and unfortunately it makes no difference. I also checked on the other instances and found they have their tracing levels all set to error, not Info. I have also noticed that on the instance which is working, in the System Configuration section at the bottom of the Log Config page - for Applications and all sub categories I see the entry .\log\applications_00.log in the Pattern column. On the instance which is not working I see that entry for the Applications root but not for any of the sub categories (even after selecting Copy to subtree). I cannot see where I can set this value (there is no modify function available, even under Administrator login).
    Also, when I look at the log messages which have generated when setting the Event Type to Error on the instance which is not working, it shows one entry and the Category and Location columns show <com.sap.xmii.bls.executables.action.logging.LoggingActions>. When I generate an event with type Error on the instance which is working I get 2 log messages, one with the Category and Location <com.sap.xmii.bls.executables.action.logging.LoggingActions> and the other with Category /Applications/XMII/Xacute/Event and Location <com.sap.xmii.bls.executables.action.logging.LoggingActions>.
    I guess that the .\log\applications_00.log should be showing for all subtree items under Applications and because it is not then the messages are not going into any application log. Not sure how to fix this however.
    I have also reset to the default configuration and it does not change the above.
    Best Rgds
    Richard
