Geforce 6800GT AGP Setting

Can anyone test (3DMark and Doom3 would be good) for me a 6800GT when it's set to AGP4x and then in AGP8x mode? Is there a big difference? I wan't to buy the MSI 6800GT card.
I have:
MB MSI 845E Max (AGP 4x), P4 2.4GHz (oc 3.05GHz), 1GB RAM, HDD Maxtor 80GB 7200 and WDC 80GB 7200, Teac CD 540E, Plextor DVD-R 708A, MSI Geforce 4 4400TI 128MB, SB Live.
Would be a 450W power supply good for this config? I think i have a 350W supply now.

Hi there,i use a thermaltake purepower 420w supply its hardly a highend model and my msi nx6800gt runs fine and even overclocks to 410core 1112memory ,while these devices are attached 2xhds,dvd-rom,dvdwriter,5case fans,athlonxp2800+ cpu,so you don,t really have to spend lots of hardearned cash on a highend powersupply, just my opinion and good luck on what ever you do.

check this out m8, could be somerthing to do with it.
Also make sure you got latest drivers etc etc.
Try disabling the Nvidia/ati speed up setting in bios. hit shift + f2 alt + f3 I think in bios - brings up these options

  • Geforce 6800GT won't install properly

I apologize if this is not the relavent section for this topic, but all I seem to read is that my problem just be due to the motherboard or the BIOS.
I have tried to install both a BFG and an XFX Geforce 6800GT card, and both of them have given me issues. I tried the BFG card first and sent it back when no support was given. I'm now in the process of trying to make the XFX card work. Please find relavent system specs in sig (the graphics card there is my old card, of course).
When I install the card/drivers and reboot, my display is distorted with colored, vertical lines of pixelation. My LCD monitor sometimes goes black for a few seconds then displays the screen again. Sometimes it goes thru its digital/analogue source seek randomly, then reboots. The Windows error report message comes up pretty frequently. I have the latest BIOS for my MB (AMI v.1.07), which I installed this morning before installing the card. I have the latest chipset drivers (they're from like December of last year so...). The card is one that comes with just one power plug connector, and I have a cord directly from my PSU plugged into it. I am not experienced with IRQ, though I have heard that this card and other recent graphics cards require you to assign VGA to IRQ in the BIOS, which is not an option in my BIOS.
I'm not sure what to do at this point. I'd really like to get this card to work and crank up some games today  .  Any help you can provide is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Melody

Sorry, but how high should a PSU be, these days?
nVidia recomments a good quality 480W PSU for this card!!!!!!!!
So the Enermax 465 will do just fine as it has plenty amps (33) on the 12V line.
110W means that it takes approx 10A from the 12V line alone, but the CPU and other stuff want some juice too...
On the Powmax there is only 15A left for the rest of the system, that's not enough...

  • Is this AGP setting right? (image attached)

Hi - I think I finally got my new MSI 5900 Ultra working how I want - however - when checking the AGP setting I noticed this "PCI Mode" and wasn't sure it was correct.  I tried moving the slider to 4x and 2x a couple of times and all I got was a reboot.
Is this correct?  Thanks in advance.

3DMARK03 also has a system info button, I am not sure the info is correct but it's another source to consider over a registry hacked info page that is unsupported.
It may very well be a bug in the drivers or a configuration error. If you have covered all the bases in driver installation properly and have no problems or performance issues, then continue enjoying the card for what it was intended.
Situations can occur when upgrading hardware such as a video card where driver conflicts can happen due to a myriad of situations, such as invalid or corrupt registry entries, misconfiguration by the user, improper BIOS settings, ad nauseum.
For one to diagnose the problem in a medium such as a forum or text based messaging, or even on the phone for that matter, is a longshot at best.
If I find any relevant information, I will be sure to pass it on as I have been wondering about some of the same information shown in this info page when coolbits is installed.

  • Geforce 7800 AGP in a G5

    Hey all,
Just bought a new GeForce 7800 AGP card to replace the Geforce FX 5200 in a 1.8 PowerPC G5. Shared a power output using the splittler which was sent with the card (split it with the disc drive in the above bay). The card seemed to fire up with the blue lights but I didn't get any video output. Tried both of the connections on the 7800 to no avail. Am I missing something here? Supposedly this is a MAC card as well. You can see it at

    Hi-
Wouldn't be the first card from that guy that wasn't flashed properly.
Contact him and arrange for replacement, as it should be plug and play.
This guy is the originator (I believe) of the 7800GS conversion.
    Very reliable.
Also very reliable is This guy.
Supposedly this is a MAC card as well.

I just thought of something else-
Are the #3 and #11 pins on the card taped? If so, remove the tape, as the G5 doesn't need the modification.

Don't see why it wouldn't work.
But (of topic ...): why die GF6800? What I understand is that there may be some compatibility isues between nVidia GPU's and VIA-chipsets. Maybe you want to think about buying the ATi X800 card - so you won't have these issues. (Sorry, I don't know the exact details - it's what someone on the Duytch forum mentioned. I think it was Quadrifolio Verde, who is active on this board as well).
If I have any more issues whatsoever with this motherboard, I'm junking it.  I have no heard of the issues with Nivida and VIA, thanks for the heads up.  As for why the GF6800, it's the fastest card at the price point I'm looking at.  I need something quick to drive high resolutions on an LCD.

  • How to install drivers for nvidia geforce 6800gt for AGP

I might be completely blind, but I have no idea as to how to install the necessary drivers I need for my new (used) graphics card. My card is not displaying properly (doing all this in safe mode) and I'm pretty sure I need the drivers. Please help.
    Thanks in advance.

So sorry for wasting anybody's time. Steve, you're right, the drivers were already there. I missed a very, very small detail on the card and the instructions. There were 2 minuscule pieces of tape that needed to be pulled off from the card (I guess they were left on in case the buyer had a g4. But with a g5, and 8x agp, those two little pieces of tape needed to be pulled off. After I pulled them off and re-installed the card, everything started up immediately and display works! Sorry again, but thanks for the quick response.

  • HELP ! System freezes now with new MSI GeForce 6600GT AGP

Any/All help is greatly appreciated... this is driving me crazy.
Just installed a new MSI 6600GT AGP card.  Windows/Apps work fine.. but system keeps freezing (disabling keyboard as well) when running certain games (3D?) like Medal of Honor, Prince of Perisa, SplinterCell.  Also, freezes on 3DMark01SE benchmark software.  What strange is 3DMark2K5 ran fine.. and returned a respectable score (3078).   I've tried unistalling/re-installing latest MSI drivers (71.22), Nvidia's 66.93, and removing nVidia's GART drivers.  I've also disconnected other hardware to allieviate PSU constraints.  I've uninstalled/re-installed 6600GT card and molex power connector on card.  My system specs are below:
    Motherboard = ASUS Focus A7N8X-LA, BIOS=American Megatrend 3.07, Chipset = nVidia nForce2
    MSI GeForce 6600GT 128 AGP
    1Gb Ram
    200Gb Maxtor  8mb buffer HD
    ASUS E616P1  DVD-ROM
    RICOH  MP5240A  DVD+RW
Enermax EG375P-VE SFMA PSU  (has separate 12V rails)
Any suggestions as to what else to try?  Getting ready to RMA this card.

    Question
    I just got a K8 series MB , and your A6600GT 128MB VGA , every time when I quit the 3D games ,
the system gave me a blue screen and then restart the system. I already update the VGA driver and MB
driver but no luck , what can I do?
    Answer
If your system are WinXP + SP2 , We suggest you to disable DEP function.
Please follow below steps to disable the DEP. (See below picture)
    1. First , Select “Advanced” under “System Properties”
    2. Choose “Settings” under “Startup and Recovery”
    3. Click “ Edit “ , then you can edit “boot.ini” file.
    4. Change “/NoExecute=OptIn” as “/execute” (See below red square in step4)
    5. Then save the boot.ini file and restart the system.
    6. After rebooting , the DEP function will be disable.

With this option, only Windows system binaries are covered by DEP by
    default.
OptOut DEP is enabled by default for all processes. Users can manually create
a list of specific applications which do not have DEP applied using
System in Control Panel. IT Pros and Independent Software Vendors
(ISVs) can use the Application Compatibility Toolkit to opt-out one or
more applications from DEP protection. System Compatibility Fixes
(“shims”) for DEP do take effect.
AlwaysOn This provides full DEP coverage for the entire system. All processes
always run with DEP applied. The exceptions list for exempting
specific applications from DEP protection is not available. System
Compatibility Fixes (“shims”) for DEP do not take effect. Applications
which have been opted-out using the Application Compatibility Toolkit
    run with DEP applied.
AlwaysOff This does not provide any DEP coverage for any part of the system,
regardless of hardware DEP support. The processor does not run in
PAE mode unless the /PAE option is present in the boot entry.

  • MSI GeForce 6600GT AGP problems

    Hi all,
A couple of days ago i bought the 6600GT 128MB AGP graphics card and i have the following problems.
I have a gigabyte motherboard with a 370 socket, a 4X AGP, and a 350W PSU. I tried 3 games and i got major problems in the graphics in two of them. Doom 3 seems ok, but in painkiller and half-life 2 the polygons dont look right to me (the polygons are corrupted).
Also in the "MSI information" tab in the display properties i got the wrong information about my graphics card. The memory type is wrong (it displays SDRAM) and the AGP 4X in the "AGP/PCI information" is not ticked. I checked my BIOS option and is set to 4X so i dont know whats wrong. I also tried both the 66.93 NVIDIA drivers and the 71.22 drivers from MSI but nothing happened. The polygon coprruption in the aformentioned games remains.
Could please someone help me? Does the 6600GT work on AGP 4X?
    Thanks in advance,
    Yannis

I tried "dxdiag" to perform some diagnostics on DirectX and while testing the Direct3D capabilities of the card the test fails when using hardware-accelarated Direct3D 8 & 9 interfaces, while passes the test with Direct3D 7. I cannot figure out the problem. I tried everything i could so far but still nothing. Can someone help me? The AGP slot of my motherboard supports 4X (AGP 2.0 compliant). Can this problem be from a damaged graphics card?

  • AGP setting on PT8-Neo?

Is there a way I can set my new eVGA GeForceFX 5200 from 8X to 4X on this motherboard (MSI-6799)?
World of Warcraft has a problem with this card with glitchy graphics and I've been told that if I set it down to 4X it may fix the problem.

Yes there are many differant motherboards with differant biosoptions around, so some may have this option and some not.
Have you tried disable agp fastwrite in bios or in vga driver options ( if there is such an option )
Also spec. all your hardware, your vga problems may come from other sources as well.

  • Agp setting

i  have a msi 694t pro motherboard and just bought a G4mx 420 video card. both of them support 4x agp mode. so i set it to 4x in the bios but then i went into the display properties to set it to 4x and it wont let me for some reason.

The Apollo Pro 133A and the Apollo Pro 133T both use the VT82C596B South Bridge Chip.  That is the Chip that controls the AGP.  It was a problem in 1999 and it is a problem now.
Take a look at what Anandtech had to say in 1999.
    Quote
As a purely gaming solution, the Apollo Pro Plus 133A isn't what we hoped it would be. The AGP performance tests indicate that VIA's AGP 4X implementation is around 30% slower than Intel's AGP 4X implementation on the i820. But wait a minute, isn't everyone always saying how big of a joke AGP is? The fact of the matter is that AGP still isn't used intensely during today's games and the AGP texturing benchmarks Intel supplied us with are exaggerations of what actual gameplay would involve, simply to illustrate the performance potential AGP 4X offers over AGP 2X.
In the future this may very well change and gamers may begin to truly notice a performance increase on AGP 4X platforms versus AGP 2X platforms. But as time goes on, the amount of local memory on video cards will definitely increase, with most boards shipping with 32MB now and the trend towards 64MB+ in the future, will we ever really become dependent on AGP?
Chances are that we won't, and VIA's slower AGP implementation will mean that only the slow points in games take the performance hit, when textures are already being sent over the AGP bus. So, instead of having a range of frame rates from 30 fps to 90 fps, the lower end of that range would drop to 20 fps.
    Take Care,
    Richard

  • NVidia Geforce 6200 AGP 512MB

Hi, I installed this card on my PPC G4 AGP and I see that it works very well with 10.4 (first HD) otherwise with 9.2 (second HD) allows me to only one screen resolution so some older games (the glorious Quake1 ..! and others) will not open because they need different resolutions. I have to download a specific driver for OS 9.2 or you have other suggestions?

    Hi-
There is no driver for that card in OS 9.
All that there is is the generic Geforce drivers and there is nothing that you can add.
Full support for the card comes in all OS versions from 10.4.3 upward.

  • NVidia PNY GeForce 6600 AGP Flashing Issue (ROM says too large for EEPROM)

Here's a puzzle for anyone willing to assist (I've heard japamac has a good history with this sort of thing so *fingers crossed*).
So, I got a Quicksilver Power Mac G4 recently for free (gotta love the university just throwing stuff away) and it was the 800Mhz Single Core model. I've recently acquired a Sonnet 1GHz upgrade cpu nib from a thrift shop for $7 and also got my hands on a free and working PNY 6600 AGP card (256mb). I had recalled the 6600 having the ability to flash a mac rom so I thought it would be a sure thing, especially after having done similar build-up for my old Dual 500 Gigabit Ethernet machine, instead opting for an ATI 9600 and a 1.8 sonnet proc which I then sold for $180 bundled with Leopard.
I followed this tutorial (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2645959?start=0&tstart=0) and downloaded the latest nvflash and the rom image hosted on the site. According to windows the rom file is 32kb, and when I opened up nvflash it stated the rom already installed was around 64kb. I followed all instructions to a t and even opted to erase the eeprom as was suggested after backing up stock.rom.
So far so good...however when I try to flash the nvmac.rom file, I keep getting some error about a PCI board id not matching (having to override w/ yes) shortly before getting an error message that states that the .rom image is too large for the eeprom. How is this possible?
The card in question is a PNY GeForce 6600 256MB DDR DVI-VGA-TV AGP Video Card G606600ABD25T+BC4BCA
Am I just SOL because it actually is too large, or am I missing something here? I've re-flashed the stock.rom back onto the card and all works well on the windows front, but I was really hoping to have a mac 6600 on the cheap...any suggestions?
If you need any specific info, just ask. Will try to respond asap. Other than the rom size error message, every other step of that tutorial works just fine.

Unless I am missing something, the 6600 ROMs on the Mac Elite site all (3) show a 128 KB size. The 6600 PNY is listed as 128, and a download and check of the file confirms it.
If your cards ROM is 64 KB, you will need to solder a new, larger chip on the board.
Did you download a 6200 ROM?
