Generate TOC with Section Markers?

It's been a while since I've had to setup and create a TOC for a single file long document, but I'm pretty sure that I've created TOCs this way in the past. So, why won't the text in Section Markers show up in the TOC? Is it even possible to generate a TOC that has Section Marker text?
I'm using InDesign CS5 in Windows. I've got a single file document that I'm trying to generate a TOC for. I've designed a 16 page handbook in one inDesign file which includes a Cover page, TOC page, and seven "chapters".
I created separate sections for each "chapter" and used Section Markers at the top of the Master page for the chapter names. This is something I've done in the past for single file long documents with multiple chapters.
I've set the first page of each "chapter" as a new Section on the Pages panel. In the Numbering and Section Options for each page, I've checked Start Section, Automatic Page Numbering, Page Numbering Style: 1,2,3,4... and in Section Marker: I've put the "chapter" name in the text box.
I set up Paragraph and and Character Styles and used them throughout my document. When I set up the TOC I set up everything correctly, including my Section Marker style for the chapter names and a heading style that I used for all the sub headings in my file.
When I insert the TOC, the sub headings with their page numbers generate but the chapter headings which are Section Markers do not generate. Am I missing something or is it even possible to include the text for Section Markers in a TOC? I'm sure that it's worked in the past. Can anyone offer a solution for this?
thanks,
Kat

awesome! ...worked like a charm. I knew I was forgetting something.

  • TOC and section markers

Can section markers that are added to a master page and updated with in a document be added to a TOC. I have created a paragraph style for section markers and added it to my TOC style but it will not show up when I create my TOC.

    Thanks for your help Peter.
Maybe you can help me with my next question. Again my document is broken up in to sections and in each section I have photos that I would like to add figures to. I have figured out how to create the figures and have them cross referenced, but I would like to have my figure reference the section number like so (Fig. 1 – 1.0) and (Fig. 1 – 2.0). Is there a way to do this

  • Generating TOC with Character Styles Referenced

I have a paragraph style applied so several paragraphs in a document.  This paragraph style has a nested style for the first few words of the paragraph which also have a specific character style assigned to them.  The thing is that I need to be able to reference or list these first few in my TOC.  I'm aware that the automatically generated TOC doesn't have the ability to refrence character styles, but I'm hoping that someone else knows of a way around this.  Does anyone know how to work around that or include, somehow, character styles in the TOC list?  The main reason I'm needing to do this is because the automaticly generated TOC (Layout > Table of Content) is built in such a way that it can be recognized in the settings when exporting to epub.

It was a good idea and almost worked.  I created an extra textbox with the text I wanted included in that text box with a specific paragraph style applied to it that has non-printing text.  Once I included the paragraph style in the Automatically generated TOC it worked in generating the text in the TOC line up, but when I exported the file to an EPUB there was no way to tell it not to include the text that where non-printing.  Therefore the words/sentences that were not visible in indesign or on print and anchored to the original text were doubled in the final epub version.

  • FM10 Can't generate the TOC with leading dots

    Hi everybody,
I have read some useful threads here about this problem but I still can't seem to be able to resolve this leading dots issue for my TOC.
I have already ensured that the reference page for all of my frame files in my Book have the same Reference page TOC entry. When I generate my TOC the leading dots are missing!
I then open the Reference page for the TOC file as well and paste in the same TOC entries from my other frame files, and then update the book to regenerate the TOC.
This also does not solve the problem.
Any help resolving this issue would be really appreciated!
Here are screen shots of my Reference page for my TOC(below). I have ensured that this same section is present for all of my book's frame files too (in their Reference page sections for TOCs).
    ChapterTitleTOC
    Heading1TOC
    Heading2TOC:
    And my generated TOC

I have this happen all the time in FM9.
Do you already have a TOC in your book file with the correct reference pages?
Sometimes I have to do it twice, I don't know why, but if you have a TOC in your
book file and then make another TOC, mine usually works...just a thought..

  • Help with TOC headings/sections for ebook

    Hi guys,
I'm having trouble creating an active Table of Contents for an ebook using Pages.
I would like to have the headings on the TOC refer the reader to a page in which the information is contained without the TOC heading appearing on the text. For example, the TOC heading that says 'Copyright' refers the reader to the copyright page in which a body text of copyright appears, but not the actual heading 'Copyright' above the text on the actual page document; or a 'Title Page' heading in the TOC linking to the page in which the actual title of the book appears, etc
I was able to create an active TOC with headings on the body text using the styles drawer, but when I change/delete the heading 'Copyright from the body text to insert the actual copyright notice, the heading - as expected - dissapears from the TOC...).
I could not find the answer anywhere else in the forum. How do I this?
    Thanks a million!
PS: I've access to both Pages 4.0.3 on Lion and 5.2 on Mavericks
PPS: it might be relevant to say that the Pages document will later be exported to EPUB. Thanks again

I finaly understood the error and got the SectionChange to work.

  • Generated TOC and master pages

    Hi guys,
I'm building a book and have a generated TOC. My question is 'when generating the TOC does FM reference anything in the master pages of files, e.g. subject/chapter headings, to help populate the TOC list?'
The reason I'm asking is that I may have built my template incorrectly. I can't get my TOC to pull out subject headings and the like.
    Advice appreciated.
    Carl

When you add a TOC to a book, FM gathers the list of paragraph tags to be used and puts them on a special reference page in the TOC file, the reference page is named "TOC". (In FM8, the name of the reference page is shown at the bottom of the TOC window when the Reference pages are viewed).
If you've created the TOC correctly, by adding a generated TOC file to the book, FM should give you the opportunity to choose which paragraph styles are to be included in the TOC before the TOC is first created.  You can then generate the TOC file, save it and save the book, then go into the reference page to look at the entries.
If your TOC isn't working correctly, I'd strongly suggest deleting it from the book, save the book, and add a new one, rather than messing with the Reference page, until you're comfortable with how the paratags are added and so on.
One thing that folks often get mixed up about is that the paragraph styles in the regular chapter, e.g. Heading1, gets added to the TOC file and the corresponding paragraph style in the TOC would be "Heading1TOC". Because FM does this all automatically when the TOC is first created, it's much, much better to let FM do the heavy lifting rather than edit the Ref. page.

  • Can you create a ToC with nested character styles?

I'm creating a technical guide document, and for ease of formatting within document creation I've used nesting character styles within the 'Body' paragraph style. I need to reference the second level headings within the ToC, but I since I can only use the 'Paragraph' styles in ToC creation - can I do this? (I'm using InDesign CC)
The document looks something like this, with the italics indicating the nesting structure and the ** indicating what needs to go in ToC.
    1. Our Story (separate paragraph style, not an issue)
1.1 Random Title Goes Here ("Body" paragraph style, nested "Heading 2")**
Body text now, all over here, several paragraphs, etc. ("Body" paragraph style, nested "Body")
Subheadings - not required in ToC ("Body paragraph style," nested "Subheading")
1.2 Random Section Title goes here ("Body" paragraph style, nested "Heading 2")**
More body text, you get the gist. ("Body paragraph style, nested "Body")
Basically, I need to build my ToC with the Heading 1 and the Heading 2, but Heading 2 is nested in "Body" paragraph style.

Nested styles are NOT a TOC style function, it is only available in a paragraph style. But when you choose a paragraph style to be written into your TOC based on another Para Style, most likely a headline, you can define such nested styles in this para style.
But a TOC entry can only include a complete paragraph, a single one. You can make a Para Style, let's name it TOC1 which draws the information from Headline 1, but not for headline 2.
This TOC1 can include nested styles (or GREP styles).
Another way to define chara styles automatically is via the TOC style definition. Styles there will override any styles which come from nested and GREP styles. (But this does not necessary mean, that they have no functionality any more, because ID's styles are only partially defined and leave room for other elements of a style to be used together.)

  • Webhelp forcefully generating files with lowercase filepath

    Hi,
    I have a list of APIs in the TOC that has the folder names in Sentence case;
The TOC is somewhat like this:
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    -Product APIs
    ---xyz
    ------API documentation
    ---------foo
    ------------foo API1
    ------------foo API2
    ------------foo API2
    ------Webservices API documentation
    ---------Foo
    ------------FooAPI1
    ------------FooAPI2
    ------------FooAPI2
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The path to an API in Foo in the auto-generated files, such as in whdata, should be: /product_apis/xyz/webservices/Foo.
However, the path in the the auto-generated files changes to /product_apis/xyz/webservices/foo/
    (note 'Foo' changes to 'foo')
Since Linux is case-sensitive, these API links do not work in Linux.
I have replaced all such instances by using a search and replace tool.
    But this is only temporary.
How do I make sure the files maintain the correct case of the filepath or foldernames
    Thanks and regards,
    PT

    Okay, got it.
    Thanks Rick!!
I could figure out why the links are breaking by knowing that the filapaths are being generated in all lowercase; I got to know about this by examining the auto-generated files. That's about it.
    Thanks again

Hello again In RoboHelp 7 if you examine the properties of your Single Source Layout recipe, look near the top of the first page of the dialog. There is where you see the option for lower case file names.  http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/2-3942922-84647/318-346/tmp1.PNG  Actually, this option is intended to PREVENT things from going haywire when you publish. When it's enabled, the process of generating WebHelp ensures all file names are lower case. But it also ensures all links are amended to lower case so it will prevent broken links from occurring. I'm confused as to your mention of what's inside the whdata, whgdata and whxdata files. These are auto generated by RoboHelp and there should never be a need to muck about with any of them. If you are, perhaps that's part of the issue?   Cheers... • Section markers and pages

Hi, I have a document which I've divided into sections (mainly for the purpose of putting different headers into each section).  The problem is that whenever I add content to a page that overflows onto a new page, the section marker for the next section (the little down arrow above the page on the pages panel) doesn't move as well, forcing me to remove that section marker and make a new section marker on the next page where the beginning of that section was bumped to. Is there a way to get around this? Maybe I haven't set up my document/sections right?

Sounds like you want running heads that change according to the content on the page, instead of static section markers attached to the pages themselves. I didn't see a version number anywhere in this thread.
With ID CS3, Adobe added variables. The Running Header Variable will let you pick up the content of a paragraph or character style from text and display it in a running header. So, for instance, if you want your chapter title to display at the top of all left pages, you make a running header variable that references the chapter title paragraph style and put it on the left master page. Now at the beginning of each new chapter (or whenever you've used the chapter title paragraph style) the left running head will change.
    Is that what you want?

  • CUCM 8.6.2 Generating CSRs With Incorrect Country Code

Hi folks, I'm running CUCM 8.6.2.25900-8 on a single cluster (1x pub, 4x sub). My CA certs for the tomcat service are due to expire shortly so I've generated CSRs for all the servers and submitted them to our provider. All but one of the requests went through with no issues but one failed because the CSR specified a country code of 'US'. We are in the UK and the four other servers all generated CSRs specifying C=GB.
Examining the current tomcat cert or issuing "show web-security" on the command-line of the server who's CSR failed also show 'C=GB'
Looking at the 'set web-security' command it appears that I cannot change the country code.
Why is the server generating CSRs with 'C=US'?
How do I change this behaviour such that they are generated with 'C=GB' instead?

Surprisingly, it has made it all the way to 10.5(x) with the same info and the same error...
I did found a method to change it via root access, and you might not require root access, but I can't tell for sure as I would need to look at exactly what the contents of the file that TAC changes, but apparently it's just the platformConfig.xml that they need to change and reboot.
If that's the case, using the utils import config using pretty much all the same info, except the country, would end up with the same outcome.
Again, not 100% sure but theory says that should do the trick, you can run that thru TAC if you open the case and see what they think about it.

  • Error in generating form with 6i

I have installed designer 6i rel 2 with form developer 6i on NT
    4.0.
When in design editor, I want to generate the form with generate
module, the system generate "CDR-21600: A running Generator or
    Utility has failed."
Also in action column writes: " It is possible that the internal
cache is now in an inconsistent state. You are therefore
recommended to close and restart the application."
Could anyone tell me what is the problem and how to solve it.
    thanks

Here is an document which describes some known causes of CDR-
21600 errors. I hope it will help you.
    PURPOSE
To describe some known causes of CDI-21600 errors and to
    suggest possible solutions and workarounds.
    SCOPE & APPLICATION
This note was written for users of Oracle Designer releases 2.1.x
    and 6.0.
CDI-21600 errors occur most frequently during Design Capture and
when generating forms with the Forms and WebServer generators.
    Investigating CDI-21600 errors
In Oracle Designer Release 2.1.2 and Release 6.0, this error has
    the form:
CDI-21600 'A running generator or utility has failed'
The Release 2.1.1 error message was: 'Generator or Utility throw
    an Exception'
The CDI-21600 error message means that the generator is hitting
an unhandled exception, also known as a GPF (general protection
fault). The CDI-21600 error masks the underlying exception error.
To see the real error do the following:
    1. Go into the Registry Editor (REGEDIT).
    2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\oracle\des2_70
    3. Set EXCEPT_HANDLING to 0 (by default it is 1).
Repeat the action that resulted in the error.
Known Causes of CDI-21600 Errors and Possible Solutions
Some of the reasons why CDI-21600 errors occur are listed below.
    1. A common cause of CDI-21600 errors is failure to install the
    necessary
    Developer patches.
See [NOTE:64630.1] Developer Patches required to run
    Designer with Developer
    2. Check that Designer is running on a supported database. Also
    check that the
    TNS connection is correct.
See [NOTE:60705.1] Designer Certification Matrix (HTML)
    3. Check for 'dangling' foreign keys, in other words FKs no longer
    owned by any
table in the repository. Delete all invalid constraints.
Invalid constraints may be created if you use the repository
    dump utility to
dump and restore external foreign keys referencing tables
    shared into the
application system, without dumping and restoring the tables
    that own them.
If you restore a complete dump (rather than a 'skeleton' one),
    and then use
the 'Reconnect Share Links' option when restoring, you may be
    able to
    resolve this problem.
To get a complete list of 'dangling' constraints in your
    repository, connect
using SQL*Plus and use the following query:
    SELECT app.name, key.name
    FROM ci_application_systems app, ci_constraints key
    WHERE key.table_reference IS NULL
    AND key.application_system_owned_by = app.id;
You can also run CKAZANAL.ANAL_REFERENCES on your
    repository and delete all
the invalid constraints that it finds. You can run the Repository
    Analyzer
from: Front Panel -> Repository Administration Utility -> Utilities.
NOTE: There may be inconsistencies in the repository that the
    Repository
Analyzer cannot fix. You might solve such problems by
    dropping all the
tables of your application, recreate them from the ERD,
    then use the
    DDT and recreate your modules.
[BUG:847190] CDI-21600 during forms generation: 'dangling'
    foreign key
"Since the generator is running on a repository that contains
    invalid
constraints and the Repository Analyzer solves the problem,
    bug closed as
    unfeasible to fix."
    4. Check your modules for invalid or missing references such as
    missing window
    placements.
    5. Try generating your module against default templates and
    object libraries.
    6. When capturing forms or libraries, try capturing the form or
    library without
application logic, then capture the application logic on its own.
See [NOTE:1064690.6] CDI-21600 when capturing design of
    form with
    application logic
[BUG:757541] DESCAP: CDI-21600 error reported when
    capturing with
    application logic
    Fixed In Ver: 6.0
[BUG:926383] Duplicate of [BUG:757541] This has been fixed in
    2.1.2 patch
779559. However you would be advised to apply a later patch
    such as 855635
which fixes more bugs in this area.
    7. Make sure that all objects that are referenced by the form have
    been
captured into the repository before capturing the form.
    8. A CDI-21600 will occur if a lookup usage displays only one
    column of
datatype DATE or if the column of datatype DATE is displayed
    as the first
    item in the block.
    Workaround
Add more column usages to the lookup block and do not
    display the DATE data
type column usage as the first item in the block.
    9. [BUG:810472] CDI-21600 when 'Argument in Caller' is set
    Fixed In Ver: 6.5.3.0
    Workaround
Make sure that you have an argument in the called module that
    is mapped to
the "Argument Passed Value" in the calling module. The only
    way to get this
mapping back once the APV has the <Module Argument> label
    is to delete it
    and recreate it.
    10. [BUG:801736] CDI-21600 on design capture of a form with
    subclassed object
    Fixed In Ver: 6.0.3.1.0 (backport)
    Fixed In Ver: 6.5
You have an item that has been subclassed to an object.
    Checking the Design
Capture option 'Capture Control Blocks' causes the CDI-21600
    error. Uncheck
'Capture Control Blocks' and the problem does not occur. Open
    the FMB in
Forms*Builder and look at Data Blocks -> Items. Break the link
    to the
object, save the FMB, and the form will capture (similar to
    [BUG:794872]).
Alternatively, ensure the link can be established.
    11. [BUG:850436] CDI-21600 on generation of a form with template
    having
    subclassed object group
You try to generate a form out of Designer that uses a user-
    defined
template. If a collection of objects in the template is grouped
    into an
object group, dragged into the object library and then either
    copied or
subclassed into a form, when the form is generated you get a
    CDI-21600
    error.
    12. [BUG:822659] Module generation fails (CDI-21600) with multi-
    column PK having
    long prompt text
    Fixed In Ver: 6.5.3.2
Module generation with multi-column primary key having long
    prompt text
causes CDI-21600 with preference MSGSFT set.
    Workaround
Shorten the prompt text of PKs may not be not applicable. You
    may loose end
    user information.
You may have the same problem with a mandatory compound
    FK. CASEOFG tries to
generate a message '<P1> must be entered', where <P1>
    contains all the
prompts of the bound items from the FK. If you reduce the
    length of the
prompts, or set MSGSFT = NULL or WEDI = S or property
    Mandatory?=No, it
    works correctly.
    13. [BUG:792542] Capturing application logic causes CDI-21600
    (V2 style
    triggers)
    Fixed In Ver: 6.5.5
After removal of the v2 triggers, the form captures/merges OK
    on 5.0.24.8,
provided patch 875027 has not been applied.
    14. [BUG:790877] CDI-21600 if the primary/foreign keys have no
    key components
    Fixed In Ver: 6.5.11
Generating a module with tables having a primary key not
    correctly defined
(no PK component) will cause a CDI-21600 error. This can
    occur when
unloading a module from the RON. If you pick up the module
    (and only the
module) in the unload set, the table and its PK are unloaded as
    a skeleton.
Loading the .DAT file into a new application will create a PK
    without a
    component.
    15. [BUG:771549] CDI-21600 if cannot connect to the DB with
    connect string in
    Options (Compile)
    Fixed In Ver: 6.5.13
If you cannot connect to the DB with the connect string
    specified in options
(Compile), the forms generator will fail with CDI-21600.
This problem occurs when you cannot connect to the DB
    because:
    - the username or password is wrong;
    - or the SQL*Net alias is not defined in the TNSNAMES.ORA
    file;
    - or the SQL*Net listener is not started;
    - or the DB is down.
    16. [BUG:785106] CDI-21600 when generate master detail form
    with preserve layout
[BUG:855812] is a duplicate of this bug.
Fixed In Ver: 5.0.24.6.0 (Bug:860426 Backport request for 2.1.2)
    Fixed In Ver: 6.0
    Fixed In Ver: 6.5.3
You have a master-detail Form with the Master having items
    partly on a TAB
Canvas. Generate Module works OK. You enter Forms Builder
    and move some
items on the tabs (just small changes, items are still on the
    same tabs).
You change the look of the Detail and change Records
    Displayed. Now in
Designer you generate the Module with Preserve Layout. You
    get a CDI-21600
error. The problem might reproduce without doing any changes
    in Forms
Builder, just by generating with Preserve Layout.
    17. [BUG:891306] If primary key column of lookup in check
    constraint comment of
    base table
    Fixed In Ver: 6.5.5
    Workaround
Do not use the name of the bound item that is based on the
    primary key
column of the lookup table in a check constraint comment of
    the base table.
    18. [BUG:896026] Forms gen throws assertion failure in
    CVINI/BUILDACTIONITEM@/CV/CVI/CVIBNI.CPP
    Fixed In Ver: 6.5.7
A problem is caused by a PL/SQL definition (function, package,
    procedure)
being defined as a called module for the module you are trying
    to generate.
To resolve the problem and enable the module to be generated,
    remove all
Called Modules that are PL/SQL definitions (functions,

    19. [BUG:812333] CDI-21600 generating a web module after
    adding an unbound item
    Fixed In Ver: 6.5.3.0
Backport [BUG:1280667] raised to fix by 6.0.3.9
You add an unbound item (SQL expression) to a Web module.
    When you try to
generate the module you get a CDI-21600 error. If you delete the
    unbound
item the Web module generates correctly.
In a test case the problem occurred during validation of the
    derivation
text, if the master module component was in a different module.
    A workaround
was to rearrange module components so that this was not the
    case.

  • ERS generated document with zero value for SES

    Hi,
I have maintained service entry sheet.
    Accounting entry is generated.
When I run T code MRRL, it has generated document with zero value.
This is not a free goods PO.
    Why this is happening?
    Please guide on this issue.

    Hi,
Creating an ERS zero document is an expected system behavior ,you
could create an ERS zero document by doing the following wrong
    procedure:
    1. Create PO with ERS falg ON.
    2. Perform GR for PO.
    3. Create the invoice by MIRO.(Not MRRL).
    4. Run MRRL (LIV-ERS).
For every purchase order with flag 'ERS' a table entry is generated.
If a goods receipt is posted, this GR should be invoiced via ERS
(Tr. MRRL). Manually posted invoices should be avoided, because
the table entry will not be deleted. A new invoice receipt must be
created while running ERS (but with amount and quantity zero and without
FI documents) in order to give a message to the vendor because he
has sent you an invoice by mistake.
Could you please check also the note:1069215
    Best regards

  • Exporting a pdf with sections

I was asking if it would be possible exporting a Pages file in a pdf file with sections, making these usable in Preview or another pdf reader. The exporting process works fine with the hyperlinks, but not with the favorites. Maybe I asking too much to Pages, but I believe there aren't other alternative to Acrobat standard in order to make indexed or sectioned pdf, so I try with the forum. A really wide treasure box.
Thanks to all for a wise reply.

Embed it. Export with Acrobat 6 or higher compatibility.
