GenerateBWReportUrl and the PCD

Hello all,
I'm creating custom iViews with Java.
Right now I'm displaying BW Queries in iViews, assigning the URL of a given query to be displayed in an IsolatedHtmlContainer. This is all simple enough.
What I had been doing before was displaying the query in IE from the Query Designer and getting the URL that way. I know this is rubbish but it got things moving at the start of the project.
Now I want to do things better and that means using the URLGenerator service. The GenerateBWReportUrl() method is very simple, takes only the IPortalComponentRequest object and String's for the BW system name and BW Report ID.
Things is though, no BW Report is displayed. The BW system param seems fine since the default report menu is displayed, but not the report having report ID. I read that the report ID parameter is searched for in the PCD. So now we get to my question, how is that maintained and generally by who? Is that something for the network guys to do, the portal system admin, the equivalent of a basis guy if there is such a thing for the portal or can I do it myself? Is it roughly similar to maintaining the landscape?
Am I even heading in the right direction at all?
Any info would be a help,
Patrick.

    Is there anything available that covers the pros/cons of a simple and network PCD migration?

    Hi,
    as such there is no DOC but I can share my views:
    Under Pros:
    a. PCD is an application use to migrate older versions[6.1.5, 7.x , 8.x] running on MCS to VM servers.
    b.It can be used to change the IP address or hostname on new servers without affecting existing version .
    c. Many users using MCS Hardware are not willing to migrate to latest version because of existing HW not supporting interim releases which they have to hop through to get on to the target release.
    d. Further, this requires license re-hosting as well for interim releases and major downtimes as well which can be avoided by using PCD without disturbing existing setup.
    e. Also, DRAM/HDD sizing needs to be considered while doing migration on MCS.PCD addresses these issues for migration.
    Under CONS:
    a. It needs to be ordered through Product Upgrade Tool and bootable is not downloadable from Cisco site.
    b. You could face some issues while doing migration which could be bugs but can be resolved.
    c.could face issues while discovering  cluster/doing migration but can be resolved.

  • I have an old Kodak Photo CD and Photoshop Elements 11 on Windows 7. How can I open the .pcd images?

    I have an old Kodak Photo CD (1999) and Photoshop Elements 11 on Windows 7. How can I open the .pcd images?
    Please help me open these photos. They are very important to me and I need to access them.
    If I can't do it with any of the software installed on my computer, would someone be willing to open them, save them as jpgs and send them to me?
    Thank you so much, Nancy

    You can get the plugin here by downloading the Extra Content for Photoshop CS3  File 2
    Just be sure to follow Note:Very Important Instructions or the link won't work.
    http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html
    After downloading the PHSPCS3_Cont_WWE.exe, double click on it to extract the contents, probably to your desktop.
    Then in the Goodies folder, Optional Plugins folder, you'll see the Kodak PhotoCD folder
    Open that and copy the Photo CD.8BI to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11\Plug-Ins
    Copy the profiles to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Color\Profiles

  • SP9 Patch 1 blows away the PCD and pcdContent folders!

    Hi,
    I experienced this problem on two different systems. After the patch 1 install, only the HTMLB.jar file is present in the PCD directory which is the only one the patch is supposed to install and the pcdContent folder is gone.  I looked into the sapinst log file and noticed a step that was interesting:
    ==================================================
    Info: ***** Begin of File-System Deployment com.sap.portal.htmlb *****
    Info: Deploy Action is UPDATE
    Info: Update - step 1/3: save previously deployed files
    Info: No Fileset to be saved found - skipping this step
    Info: Update - step 2/3: remove previously deployed files
    Info: All previously deployed files could be deleted successfully
    Info: Update - step 3/3: deploy new files
    Info: Deploying Fileset HTLMB / htlmb_FS to E:usrsap/DEV/JC00/SDM/../j2ee/cluster/server0/apps/sap.com/irj/servlet_jsp/irj/root/web-inf/deployment/pcd
    Info: Fileset HTLMB deployed successfully
    Info: ***** End of File-System Deployment
    ==================================================
    So, it appears that it skips the step of saving the previously deployed files but I don't know why.  No Fileset found??  It goes ahead and deletes the previously deployed files which in step 1 said it couldn't find!
    As a test, when the error message occured at the end of the install, I copied the files from a backup (excluding the htmlb.jar) and clicked retry and it completed without an error message.  But, since I didn't get a clean install, I backed it out anyway and I plan to open a OSS message.
    SAP issued Note 790767 stating this was an error that could be ignored.  The problem is that the pcdContent folder is missing and it can't read the properties file!  How can this be ignored??
    Can some one shed some light on this?  Why are some people getting this to install without issue and some aren't?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Yes i agree, i got the following error too during the install.
    "ERROR 2004-12-16 10:28:59
    FJS-00003  TypeError: fMgr.getNode(j2eePath + "/cluster/server0/apps/sap.com/irj/servlet_jsp/irj/root/web-inf/deployment/pcdcontent") has no properties (in script InstallationScript_78, line 17433: ???)"
    but i renamed the temp directory in deployment dir to pcdContent and it finished with no errors and the portal too works fine.
    And this happened to me with both of my installs- Centarlized and Distributed.

  • The PCD folder with all par files in the portal is empty

    Hi all gurus.
    I have a customer that failed with a transport of iviews between two portals, the par file was not included even if attribute "include dependent objects" was checked.
    I have met this problem before and the only(?) solution is to download the par file separately and import it into the receiving portal and then create a new iview from it.
    Here is my problem: when I at this certain customers portal go to "System Administration > Support > Support Desk > Portal Runtime > Test and Configuration Tools > Browse Deployment" and then browse to "Root > WEB-INF > deployment > pcd" that last folder is empty! Blank!!!
    On all portals I've seen that folder alwasys shows all standard par files along with deployed stuff but here the folder just shows a white page with the text "The folder is empty".
    I don't think it's a matter of authority since I have added "super-admin role" and all possible content admin roles to my user without any change, the folder is still empty.
    Does anyone have an idear about what is going on here?
    Best regards
    Benny Lange

    Hi Raghu.
    Your are missing my point: it's not about what content to export, it's about the folder being totally empty. I can't see the par files belonging to our deployed code either.
    Of course I could upload the par file from Eclipse workbench from where I first uploaded the par file to the development enivironment, but I find it alarming that the folder is empty when it's full of par files in every single portal I have seen so far.
    Best regards
    Benny

  • How can I persist a Java object to the PCD via JNDI ?

    Hi,
    I'm trying to persist XML data on the PCD via JNDI. I'm using
    portal version 6.2.0.4.200408172051.
    I followed the instructions in the "Portal Runtime Technology 640"
    document.
    The example they showed was:
    import javax.naming.Context;
    Context context = PortalRegistry.getCentralConfigurationContext();
    Context applicationContext = context.lookup("MyAppName");
    It was possible to obtain 'applicationContext' in the above example by
    using:-
    Context context = PortalRegistry.getCentralConfigurationContext();
    String appName = request.getComponentContext().getApplicationName();
    Context applicationContext = (Context) context.lookup(appName);
    However, any attempt to bind, rebind an object (implementing IStreamSource)
    resulted in NamingExcptions. As did 'listBindings' and 'list' (see below).
    BeanWrapper d = new BeanWrapper("test input");
    applicationContext.rebind("PCD_LOOKUP_KEY", d);
    // where 'd' implements IStreamSource
    class BeanWrapper implements IStreamSource {
    String content = "balh";
    BeanWrapper(String s) {
    content = s;
    public InputStream getInputStream() throws IOException {
    ByteArrayInputStream bis = new ByteArrayInputStream(content.getBytes());
    return bis;
    } // getInputStream
    } // BeanWrapper
    I don't know what I've done wrong. I couldn't find any more documentation
    on this topic...
    Any help would be appreciated.
    cheers,
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
    here my comments to your questions:
    0.:[Michael says:]
    "So basically you're saying that under SP10 its not possible to store objects on the PCD ... ?"
    I want to clarify this:
    It is possible to store objects in the PCD in lower releases than SP10 (e.g. SP2). But due to the fact that PCD API is not public before SP10 you should not develop a SP2 iView that programmatically uses the PCD API and complain afterwards because some "tiny" things of it are not working in SP10. It might be that you have to adjust some parts of this SP2 iView.
    The kind of object that can be stored in the PCD depends on the fact if the objects have a corresponding object provider or not. If you want to store iViews, roles or one of the other commonly known portal objects you can do it because corresponding object provider (iViewservice, roleservice, etc.) are always available in a running portal.
    If you want to store objects (like your BeanWrapper class) then you should write a corresponding object provider (what I explained in my first reply).
    1.:[Michael asked:]
    Why does list and listBindings fail ? surely that should just
    list the existing bound objects ???
    Nothing was bound!
    Your code line
    applicationContext.rebind("PCD_LOOKUP_KEY", d);
    throws a NamingException because no object provider for class of object d was found.
    So I gess you did a lookup on  applicationContext.lookup( "PCD_LOOKUP_KEY" ) before you did the list/listBindings and because this
    context does not exist the corresponding "Name not found" exception was thrown?
    A list/listBinding on the applicationContext itself should work even if nothing was bound.
    2.:[Michael asked:]
    Is there not some kind of default object/object provider pair
    that can be used to store base types like Strings/Integers etc ?
    No. There are no default object providers for java string/integers. But for this case "persisting a string or integer value at any PCD context" the PCD offers another way to do it: Just create an additional attribute (of type STRING or INT) and persist the corresponding value in this attribute (of type IPcdAttribute - an extension of javax.naming.directory.Attribute )
    The code for creating a pcd attribute looks e.g. like this:
    IPcdObjectFactory pcdObjFactory = ((IPcdGlService) PortalRuntime
                                                   .getRuntimeResources()
                                                   .getService(IPcdGlService.KEY))
                                                   .getPcdObjectFactory();
    IPcdAttribute newPcdAttr = pcdObjFactory.createPcdAttribute(     PcdAttributeValueType.STRING,
                                            "new_attrId" );
    newPcdAttr.set(     0,
              "new_AttrValue" );
    ModificationItem mods[] = new ModificationItem[1];
    mods[0] = new ModificationItem(      DirContext.REPLACE_ATTRIBUTE,
                               (Attribute)newPcdAttr );
    pcdCtx.modifyAttributes(     "",
                        mods );
    Hope, that helps you!
    Regards,
    Jens

  • How to: display the pcd in a htmlb tree object?

    Hello @ all,
    I'm currently trying to implement the contents of the PCD into a htmlb tree structure for an application of mine.
    while the tree creation isn't a problem, i have no idea where to start on how to read/parse the pcd structure.
    the reason for me trying to stuff the pcd into a tree is to achieve an easier to handle navigation.
    so of anybody could point me in the right direction as how to get access to the pcd porperly and how to get the complete pcd structure (folder, iviews, everything) so that i could include it in the tree, i would be really thankful.

    Only Worksets and Roles are not described, anyhow, doing a bit research via decompiling or just by searching on SDN will bring you the needed extra info; just as an example for roles access: https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/6112ecb7-0a01-0010-ef90-941c70c9e401

  • PCD Audit : What information about the PCD objects are stored in the PCD?

    Folks,
    Need some information on the information stored in the PCD for audit purposes.
    Object = Any PCD object, typically iView, Page, Workset, Role, Group...
    1. Creation of any object - Should definately be present in the PCD
    2. Any modification including history - List of all actions on any PCD object - I am sure the last modification is tracked, but can we track every change to the object from creation?
    3. Deletion of any object? - This I am not sure of - Does the PCD store information about deleted object's like deletion time stamp and the user who deleted etc?
    Thank you...

    Hi,
    >>1. Creation of any object - Should definately be present in the PCD
    There is no doubt about this.
    >>2. Any modification including history - List of all actions on any PCD object - I am sure the last modification is tracked, but can we track every change to the object from creation?
       <b>AND</b>
    >>3. Deletion of any object? - This I am not sure of - Does the PCD store information about deleted object's like deletion time stamp and the user who deleted etc?
    There is no versioning concept in PCD right now, but ofcourse planned for future.
    So you cannot track the history and deleted objects, but there exists PCD Repository Manager in KM on which you can activate versioning. Check if this suites your needs. Never tried but logically ever PCD change should get versioned here.

  • Setting the property "Cache Level" of the pcd object to "None".

    Hi all
    I have an EP 6.0 on NW04 SPS 17. I need to solve a problem and found note 960975. My question is, how could we change the setting the property "Cache Level" of the pcd object to "None"? Where should I go? Is it on the NWA, Visual Admin, Configtool or somewhere else?
    Many thanks before.

    Hi Agoes,
    By using the tool Support Desk -> Portal Content Directory -> PCD Administration you can do this. Please note that this tool should only be used in debugging situations.
    There is a new section "Release a Unit from the cache cluster wide" in this tool. With this new functionality, you can remove an object from the cache on all nodes in the cluster. If the object is still in use, it will be reread immediately from the database
    Releasing the entire PCD cache can severely affect performance. Hence, if there are inconsistencies suspected with a single object, e.g. a role or an iview, the new section "Release a Unit from the cache cluster wide" can be used to evict the given object from the cache on all nodes in the cluster.

  • Topics on EP and the sequence to be followed

    Hi ,
       I have explored a few topics on the development side of the portal and there are a few on my mind .What I wish to know is if I have to develop a team of delivery capability then in what sequence these topics are to be taken with the team . I am listing the topics below . Please guide as I have never been on a project on EP so I am not aware about the importance of these topics and the sequence to be followed while taking them up with a team .
    Iviews : These include
    Making iviews using standard templates available .
    Making iviews using visual composer .
    Making customised iviews using PDK(NDS and WAS) .
    Webdynpro application
    JSPDynpage
    Business Packages
    Integration of Third party applications
    Configuring your mail server with the portal .Learning the configurational concepts of the exchange server .
    BSP applications
    HTMLB and tableviews
    BISDK and XMLA
    Using JCO and JCA
    Knowledge/content management
    Collaboration
    TREX
    If you have some other topics in mind please feel free to include here and also specify where do you wish to include them in the sequence . I need to know how do we go about this as it becomes quite confusing as to what to persue and with what importance as I have never faced a real time client requirements.
    I AM LOOKING FOR AN EXPERT ADVICE HERE .
    Regards
    Deepak Singh

    Hi deepak
    I think you can go for this sequence
    Making iviews(Making iviews using standard templates available .) and other pcd objects like worksets,pages etc..
    Creating users,roles and Assinging  roles to users
    Making iviews using visual composer.
    Knowledge/content management

  • Naming exception from the pcd... occurred in PI 7.1

    In PI 7.1 Iu2019ve got a process which gets invoked as SOAP service and synchronously calls a second SOAP service. The service returns the correct result and works, when called from the Web Services Navigator. When I call the Service on PI the Web Services Navigator only shows a NullPointerException (although the service gets invoked). The Message Monitoring of the Runtime Workbench doesnu2019t show any Message at all.
    I looked at the Trace-Log and found the Message:

    Has anybody got an idea what could cause this behavior or how one can solve this problem? As far as I could find out PCD_ROLE_PERSISTENCE is part of the portal which is not meant to be Part of PI.

    Hello Osman,
    We are also facing same ROLE.PCD_ROLE_PERSISTENCE.VvlvkEGjiW9zPFaxR/4pd2/bX5Q= error.
    Also when I send a message via SAOPUI I get error:

  • Using the PCD Repository Manager

    Hello all
    I've just discovered the PCD Repository Manager (to map the PCD to a KM repository).  It looks fantastic, but I can't get it to work.
    It says it is active by default, but I when I try to link to it, it can't be found.  I've even tried switching the "hide" option off (and restarting the engine), and I still can't use it.
    I need it so that I can link to portal pages in my KM navigation iViews.  Anyone got any ideas?
    EP6SP14
    Chris

    Hi Karin
    I tried creating a Navigation iView and it cannot find the path.
    I checked in the Component Monitor and yes, there is an error under the PCD Repository Manager:
    Failed to init sub-manager: Exception loading and instanciating sub-manager: com.sapportals.wcm.repository.manager.generic.search.SimplePropertySearchManager (java.lang.NoSuchMethodException: com.sapportals.wcm.repository.manager.generic.search.SimplePropertySearchManager.<init>(com.sap.netweaver.bc.rf.mi.IManager))
    We've already recycled once, so I don't think restarting the server again will help.

    Hi Sumit,
    System is an object in Portal Content Directory (PCD). User of portal should have permissions to access it. Looking up is a kind of access.
    Please go to System Administration -> System Configuration -> System Landscape. Find your system and right-click on it, then choose 'Permissions'. There you should make sure that your portal user has permissions.
    You can read about permissions here:<a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/f6/2604e505fd11d7b84200047582c9f7/frameset.htm">http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/f6/2604e505fd11d7b84200047582c9f7/frameset.htm</a>
    There is an extract probably related to your problem:
    " If an iView is based on a system object defined in your system landscape (see System Landscape), you must assign end user permission for the relevant user, group, or role to the system object, as well. End user permission assigned to a system permits the iView to retrieve data from the respective back-end application through the system object at runtime."

  • Email Notification need anyone changes the PCD content..

    Hello,
    Can someone give me a solution for this issue.
    An email should be sent to a person if someone has changed the PCD content. Can be an iveiw property, role property, workset property etc,.
    Or if any thing is created or modified in PCD i should get an email notification that so and so content has been modified by so and so person.
    Regards,
    Krishna

    Hello Krishna,
    As far as regarding to your question there is no built in functionality with portal. Email notification for subscription and notification service can be configured in the portal as:
    Sys admin - System Configuration - Knowledge Management-Content Management - Utilities-channels - email channels  by this you can configure the communication channels available in the portal. However this is used to send information to the users.
    Also the email notifications are used in the User Management where the user profile changes can be tracked by the Administrator, similarly for tasks and notification's we can configure the UWL for the email communication.

    In these there are threads which explain you some concepts of Collaboration rooms by which you can track the details of PCD and also like the System landscape monitoring.
    I hope this information would give you an idea as of how email channel could be used in portal where in as specific to your question i think we need to build an application and try integrate it with portal to test it.
    Thanks,
    Aparna
