Generating delimited output from Reports Runtime R60

When generating a delimited file using Runtime how can you predict or determine how Oracle will form the output rows from the report layout? Does anyone have any documentation on Runtime that explains the generation process as there is nothing in the Runtime Reference manual.

The only documentation (such that it is) that I've found on this is in MetaLink, in Note 68245.1 "Delimited Output in Reports" and a tiny bit more in Note 120072.1 "Suppressing header on delimited output".

  • CPU usage while generating text output from reports

    hi
while we attempt to generate the text (delimited) output from reports and when the query fetches more than 1500 rows, the cpu usage stays around 100% for long time paralysing the operation...
we faced the problem when we attempted to generate text output for around 10000 records.
    any suggestions?

You can burst with eText and I have done it
    successfully.
I don't believe pagebreaks are an option in eText and
I don't think it makes sense either since your
generating a flat-file and not a customer or internal
facing document. Does that make sense?
Also, if you would like you can use the
BIPublisherIDE, this code can be converted pretty
easily to handle jcp. There is a an oa framework
version I have developed but I haven't posted on my
blog yet. I plan on adding a bolt on for java
concurrent programs soon. it's really pretty simple
    just haven't had the time.

    Thanks Ike for your reply.
I agree with your points on TXT files, but in our case, the reports are generated in TXT format for the customer so we are looking for the above mentioned features.
I have gone through BIP IDE and its a wonderful small utility which eases the task of BIP development.
As I mentioned in my original post that we are currently processing the generated TXT report using a custom util. in JAVA to get the desired output in TXT again.
I assume thats not what a JCP would do,so I am looking to explore that too.
As I understand the process for report generation is
    1. Generate XSL from eTEXT template.
    2. Get the XML data from DB using XDO
    3. Apply XSL on XML to get the required template.
If we are looking to achieve some customizations then we need to have the XSL generated with those customizations.
In this case, where do we plug in the JCP to alter XSL or am I missing something.

  • Delimited output from Reports

    Hello friends,
I am trying to produce delimited data based on a query which outputs department names.
The output data should look like:
    SALES OPERATION SERVICE TECHNOLOGY
I have a repeating frame with Print Direction set to "Across".
To generate the file in Reports Builder, I do the following: File --> Generate File --> Delimited.
But the data I am getting looks like:
    SALES
    OPERATION
    SERVICE
    TECHNOLOGY
Any help or clues to the problem would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Delimited output in reports

I am building a simple report for address labels. I also want to to produce the address list in delimited format.
The generation of the report into PDF works fine, however delimited output does not include all of the fields of the report.
    The approximate field layout is
    Name
    Address Line 1
    Address Line 2
Experimenting a little, it seems that the fields only generate in delimited format if they don't overlap vertically.
    ie Name AddressLine1 AddressLine2
This produces the correct delimited output, but of course is nothing like what I want for an address label.
    Version: Report Builder 6.0.8.8.3
I have seen some references to a patchset in other discussions. Where can I obtain these patches from?
    thanks, evnafets

I'm sorry I guess I didn't make my problem clear.
I am generating delimited output from the menu: File:Generate To File: Delimited
The generated file does NOT include all the fields from the Layout view, unless they don't overlap vertically.
So if my layout view looks like
    Name AddressLine1 AddressLine2
    (all fields on same line)
    The delimited file produces correctly.
    ie Name,AddressLine1,AddressLine2
    (using comma as delimiter)
    If my layout view is
    Name
    AddressLine1
    AddressLine2
    (Three vertically overlapping fields)
    It only produces:
    Name
Somewhere along the way, the address lines get lost.
    If the Layout view is
    Name AddressLine1
    AddressLine2
    It produces
    Name, AddressLine1
    And (Last example)
    Name AddressLine1
    AddressLine2
Produces Correctly (note no vertical overlapping)
I can't pretend to understand WHY it is performing like this, but thats what happens on my machine.
Thanks for the information on the patches - I'll upgrade and see if the issue goes away.
I did read and understand earlier posts about the labels printing, and I think its worth patching up just to get the feature to switch them off.
    Thanks, evnafets

  • Dev 6.0 Reports: Error when generating delimited output

It seems there may be a problem when trying to use the generate
delimited output command in Developer 6.0 Reports run-time.
I have a report with a formula column that performs a simple
calculation 'x is what percent of y,' where x and y are fields on
the report. From Report Builder I can preview the report and
generate delimited output without any problems. It is quite
nice. Unfortunately this is not true when using the run-time
    exacutable outside of Report Builder.
The report runs without a problem, but when I choose to generate
to a file as delimited output (comma delimited with quotes as
cell wrappers) I receive the error:
'REP-1249 Column <column name> has no PL/SQL formula.' It seems
that summary columns work fine, but if the report contains a
formula column then it fails. If I remove the formula column and
generate to a file as delimited output it works fine.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to solve this problem?
    Thanks,
    Scott H.

    Hi Scott,
could only guess, but try to have your report compiled to a .rep
file instead of using .rdf. Maybe it helps.

  • Generating delimited file from a report in reports 6i gives error rep-1814

    Hi all,
    We are using reports 6i.
We have a report from which we are trying to generate a delimited file.
We are encounterign the error REP-1814 The object vertically can never fit.
After looking into forums we came to know that there is something like DELIMITED_HDR should be set to NO..
Also we observe dthat this is done using th following command
    set_report_object_property('exp039r', null,
    ' DELIMITER=tab' ||
    'DELIMITED_HDR=no');
We tried doing that but, it is not working. Is there anything we should do to get it work.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • To generate XML output from Oracle Apps 11

Hi Anyone has the experience to generate the output from Oracle Apps 11 as XML file? Database is 8.17, Oracle Apps 11. The concurrent program can be written in PL/SQL or can report 2.5 generate the output as XML?
    The scenario is:
    1) Run a concurrent program in Oracle Apps 11
    2) Output generated is XML (.xml)

  • Build Reports from XML output from Reports

    Hi,
I was just wondering if it is possible to build reports from output in XML format, originally generated by Oracle Reports.
The XML output produced by Reports is stored in a database for further processing.
    TIA
    Hien

    Hi Hien
If I have understood this right, you need to create report in XML format from an XML Report Definition File. From the Builder, Generate to File from the File menu and choose XML format for the output.
Remember that XML output from Reports is Data driven and faithfully reproduces the Data Model. It is NOT layout driven.

  • Delimited output of report that contains frames with Print Direction = 'Across'

    Hello all.
On the header section of my report, I have a frame with Print Direction = 'Across'.
On screen the output is :
    Value1 Value2 Value3 Value 4
I want to export this report to excel, by using DELIMITED option. However the output I'm getting is :
    Value1
    Value2
    Value3
    Value4
e.g., reports is not generating several columns (one for each field), but separate lines.
Anyone knows how to accomplish delimited output of frames with Print Direction='Across' ?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Octavio

If you're not generating both bitmap and delimited data from the same report, try using character mode output rather than "delimited". You can create the report to generate the appropriately delimited values to a text file. This will also give you greater control over aspects such as headings.
Delimited output simply uses the structure of the layout. It doesn't take into account the across/down repeat directions except in the case of matrix.

  • Problem with output from  report to excel, calling the report from form 10g

Hi everyone, I'm having a problem generating a excel from a report, which is called from a form, I'm using Forms 10g. The problem is this: My report has a variable number of columns. These columns appear according to data obtained from the database, these columns are dates, In vesion 6 excel file generated shows the columns one after another starting in column A1 to column CP. I mean that the dates are correlative. But in version 10g the excel file generated shows the same report starting in column A to column T, only shows the 20 dates correlative corresponding to this columns, the rest of the dates are down the excel sheet in groups of 20 dates, it's something, the file in 6i grows across and in 10g grows down the excel sheet. The report (rdf file) is the same in 6i and 10g, I compiled the 6i version to obtain the 10g version. The excel sheet generated in 10g looks like the report was in pdf format, because PDF format, cuts the report in pages and the file grows down, if I generate the report in PDF format it has the same structure excel file in 10g has. I hope yo can help because I have days trying to solve this but I have no succes. If someone could help I could email the excel files generated in two versions. Here I put the code I use to generate the files in 6i and 10g. I have tried with DESFORMAT=SPREADSHEET in 10g but the result is the same. Thanks for your help. Greetings for all.

There are two problems with your VI.  First, the basic logic of writing/appending to a file (Excel, TDMS, anything) should go something like this:  Open the file, position yourself at the end of the file, then, in the loop, acquire data and write it to the file until you are finished with data acquisition.  When you exit the acquire/write to file loop, then close the file.  In particular, the opening and the closing of the file should not be inside the loop.
As others have pointed out, writing to Excel might not be optimal, particularly if you are acquiring data at a high rate (and would therefore be writing a lot of data). We actually use Excel in our data acquisition routine, mainly reading from a WorkSheet to get the parameters of a particular stimulus, but also writing the outcome of the response to the stimulus.  As it happens, our "acquisition rate" in this example is on the order of several samples per minute, so there's no problem using Excel (we also sample 16 channels of analog data at 1 KHz -- this gets written as a binary file).
Second, if you really do want to use Excel, use the (existing) Excel file to which you want to append as the "template" argument of the New Report function.  Then use the Excel Get Last Row function to position yourself at "end of file", as noted above.
    Good Luck.

  • How to Generate CSV Output from JD Edwards BI Publisher

    Hi All,
I have a report "Critical Date Report" - R15611 in JD Edwards 8.11. This report has to be generated as CSV output from BI Publisher which is embedded to JDE.
The purpose we want use BI Publisher is to move some of the data displaying to different place in the page(ex: Move the company address from top left corner to Bottom right corner).
    In order to achieve this
1.We created blank rtf template and upload to XML repository using P95600 application
2.Create report definition using P95620 application
3.Here I see the available output types as PDF,RTF,HTML,EXCEL,POWERPOINT and XML,ETEXT(GRAYED OUT)
Which output type we can use for CSV ?
4.Execute the report definition of the critical date report from P95620 to get the XML source
5.This XML source will be loaded into the blank rtf template
6.From this point no idea how to design the rtf template in order to get the CSV output.
7.We did design and output type as excel - but the result data is not in good formatting and alignment*(Headers and footers are repeating).*
If any one has worked on similar type of requirement, let us know how to do or send a sample XML source, rtf template and how the CSV output will be. Or any document link present in Oracle site will be helpful. Please let me know if you need more details.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi Vijay,
For CSV output, you need an E-text template (not RTF) that's why its grayed out! You can use Excel as output type and have (No headers and footers) , then you can open the file in Excel and store it as CSV. Does not always display correctly though.
Why are you compelled to use BI publisher? you can use the JDE standard csv output report, (as is used by most EDI systems) of course this may involve a bit of customization if you wants the fields arranged differently.

  • Generating Text Files from reports

    Hi all,
Could anyone help me to generate reports to text files using command line. I could do this using the menus but I need to do it by command line.
I tried to use the DESFORMAT parameter but the values for this parameter do not include a value for a text file. I could find PDF, HTML, RTF and.....
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    Try using DESFORMAT=DELIMITED eg.
    rwrun60.exe REPORT="XXXXX.RDF" USERID=userid/passwordf@databaseid DESTYPE=FILE DESFORMAT=DELIMITED DELIMITER=TAB DESNAME="XXX.TXT" BATCH=YES
I think the default delimiter is TAB but you can specify your own delimiter. There is a list of command line options and delimiter options on the Reports Runtime Help.
    I hope this helps !

  • Unable to generate PDF file from reports

    Hi,
After running the report when I tried to generate the output to pdf file, I see the number of pages being generated again, I dont see any file being created although it prompts for the file name. Any suggestions
    Thanks in Advance

I dont see any output pdf file being generated, I have seen in all the folders and when I click the Generate to File option, it prompts me for the file name and the path for the file and then the report runs again on the screen instead of generating the file.
    Thanks in Advance

  • Generating TEXT output from RTF template/reports

    Hi ,
We have been working with XML Publisher for a long time now.. and we have come across some requirements such as
    1. Page break in TXT report output
    2. Page Headers after every 'X' lines in TEXT output.
This was easily achieved with RTF template and PDF/HTML/RTF output, but not with TEXT output in eTEXT template.
So we started looking into two approaches
    1. Generate TXT from PDF/RTF/HTML output(generated from RTF template), though it will addon to the time, but we are looking for this approach. We are looking for some JAVA api's which can help us to extract text from PDF/HTML/RTF while preserving the format.
    2. Pass the TXT generated by eTEXT template to our custom util , which will split the report in diff. pages. This will get complex as we recieve more and more reports.
We have also tried hacking the RTF parser used in XML P so as to get a TXT output or using XSL-FO objects in eTEXT parser, but we could not get anything of our help.
Does anyone have any pointers in this.
    regards
    Gaurav

In this case, where do we plug in the JCP to alter XSL or am I missing something.
    regards
