Generic Apache calling OAS for pl/sql pages

I have a generic apache 2.2 set up using SSL and everything works fine. We are calling OAS v10.1.2 for pl/sql pages. This works fine. Now we want to use SSL certificates. The certificates are correct for the generic apache, but when I call the pl/sql it doesn't work.
1.  If we have SSLVerifyclient OPTIONAL on the apache 2.2 the call to pl/sql is correct and the certificate is generated, but not for the pages on the apache 2.2. server.
2. If we remove SSLVerifyclient OPTIONAL on the apache 2.2 the ssl certificate is correct for the pages on the apache 2.2 but not for the pl/sql pages form the OAS.
Where should the ssl certificate come from for the OAS pl/sql? The OAS server or the generic apache server?

You should post your question on the OTN (Oracle Technology Network) discussion forum.: www.technet.oracle.com. There is an iAS section where you can post questions on oas.

Hi all,
I am working on a e-commece portal site.
Can anyone share experiences on the best configurations for running PL/SQL web applications. I'm about to deploy a production Web OLTP application developed completely with PL/SQL (8.1.5), and would like to know which of the following would be the most reliable and best performance option:
o WebDB listener + Oracle 815
Can WebDB give us high performance?
o OAS listener 4.0.8.1 + OAS 4.0.8.1 + Oracle 815
Is this the best choice?
o Apache listener + OAS 4.0.8.1 + Oracle 815
Any input appreciated. I think it would be useful for all people reading this list to hear some feedback...
Thanks!

    Hello,
Which version of SAP BOBJ XI3.1 you are using?
What I am aware is BEGIN_SQL was very well working for SQLServer2005 in case of ODBC connection.
Can you try one thing for SQLServer2008 have a Native driver installed on your client machine and use ODBC connection rather than OLEDB connection.
If that works fine, its good
Otherwise you can raise a message for resolving this problem with the support team.

  • Page Parameters in PL/SQL Pages

    The OAS User's Guide says:
"You can define page parameters for PL/SQL Pages. Values for these parameters are passed to bind variables in the PL/SQL code. For example, if the PL/SQL page 'myplsqlpage' contains the PL/SQL statement 'a:=:param1'; and a page parameter is specified named 'param1' with the value '123' (param1=123), this URL is used to access the PL/SQL page in Oracle AS Portal:
    http://myportal/myplsqlpage?param1=123
In the PL/SQL code, the bind variable 'a' is assigned the value '123'."
But I did that but I have the following message:
ORA-01008: not all the variables have been binded (WWS-22518).
    Please I have an example.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Patrick,
Your suggestion seems interesting and simplistic and I wonder if you could make it working. Because, I worked on a similar suggestion some months ago and it did not work. unless I am confusing your idea with something else, it is not designed to work - although it was claimed in the documentation to work. On talking to Oracle we were able to pin down that it was a documentation bug and a new note was created to state that.
You may wanna see the following Metalink Note which says that passing parameters from a PLSQL page is not allowed.

  • What's the best out-of-the-box web interface for a SQL DB?

I'm developing a Java web application that will be backed by an Oracle database. Users would like a simple web interface that allows them to accomplish what they could with SQL queries without knowing SQL. The basic operations would be:
    * displaying a database table in a table format
    * downloading the table as a text or Excel file
    * customizing the columns in a table display
    * displaying a query result set in a table format
    * constructing a query using drop-down menus
I'd probably want to program in a simplified UI for a few common queries.
This really looks like functionality someone should have invented before me. Question: what is the right tool for me to be using? I'm surprised I haven't found something by searching.
It looks like I could just directly write JSP, but I think something else might be simpler. I think related functionality exists in Spring, but I didn't find exactly what I'm looking for, and Spring brings a lot of other stuff also. Nothing in my application is more complicated than this, so I'd be happy to keep things simple.

    About Application Express
Oracle Application Express (Oracle APEX), formerly called HTML DB, is a fully supported "no-cost" option of the Oracle Database. Oracle Application Express is certified against all editions of the Oracle Database 10.2.0.3 and above, including Oracle Database 10g Express Edition (Oracle XE).
Oracle Application Express installs as part of the seed database installation with Oracle Database 11g.

    >
    Browser Based
Using only a Web browser and limited programming experience you can develop data centric applications in minutes. Browser-based development enables you to develop applications on most computers using only a modern Web browser.
    Rapid Application Development (RAD)
Use simple wizards and declarative programming to create powerful reporting and data entry applications. You can create applications from spreadsheet uploads, or on existing database tables and views. Oracle Application Express includes SQL Workshop to create and manage the database objects that support your application.
    Application Express Components
    Application Builder - Database Applications
Application developers use wizards to declaratively assemble applications organized in pages. Page content is organized into regions. Regions can contain text, custom PL/SQL, reports, charts, maps, calendars, web service references or forms. Forms are made up of fields (called items) which can be selected from the multitude of built-in types (such as text fields, text areas, radio groups, select lists, check boxes, date pickers, and popup list of values) or a developer can create their own types using plug-in support. Table update functionality is built-in and PL/SQL can be used to process data. Session state (or application context) is transparently managed and the user interface presentation is separated from the application logic so that the look and feel of an application can be changed simply by selected a different theme.
    Application Builder - Websheets
Using Websheet Applications, end users can manage structured and unstructured data without developer assistance. Page sections contain unstructured data and are edited using a WYSIWYG editor. Reports provide access to database data by writing SQL. Data Grids can manage structured data without writing SQL. Adding columns, renaming column, and validations are defined using runtime dialogs. Each page and row of data grid data can be annotated with files, tags, notes, and links. Pages can contain sections as well as reports and data grids and all can be linked together providing navigation. All information is searchable and completely controlled by the end-user.
    SQL Workshop
The SQL Workshop provides tools that enable you to view and manage database objects. Object Browser enables you to use a tree control to view object properties and create new objects. The SQL Command tool enables you to enter ad-hoc SQL. Query Builder enables you to create join queries using drag and drop. SQL Scripts enables you to store and run scripts. The Data Workshop enables you to load and unload text, DML, and spreadsheet data.
    RESTful Services
RESTful Services allow for the declarative specification of RESTful services mapped to SQL and PL/SQL.
    Team Development
Team Development helps manage the life-cycle of an application's development. It provides tracking and management of application features, to do entries, bugs, and end user feedback. Team Development is tightly integrated with the Oracle Application Express Application Builder. For example, edit page lists open feedback, bugs, and to do's.
    Administration
Each Oracle Application Express workspace is a separate application development environment that is fully insulated from other workspaces. The administration component provides workspace management, including services (available schemas, space requests, and preferences), users (both developers and end-users), and workspace activity (page views, login attempts, and developer activity). Access is limited to Oracle Application Express developers who have workspace administration privileges.

These files are in the server under the folders mywork/bkb
    When I type server/mywork/bkb

    That’s fine.
    Now, I created a page called highestpage.cfm
The purpose is for me to put the link myindex.cfm and it
    works fine.
But my problem that I am really still confused is
It will show up when I type server/mywork/bkb/ myindex.cfm
But my goal is not to type that far off.
I just want to type I type server/mywork/bkb/ without
    myindex.cfm
And still will lead me to I type server/mywork/bkb/
    myindex.cfm
    Just like the earlier version
server/mywork/bkb that lead me to myindex.cfm
but only now will lead me to highestpage.cfm
I hope I am expressing my self correctly.
    Thanks for understanding

If I understand your situation correctly, you can accomplish
this by setting the default web page names in your web server,
whatever that might be - Apache, IIS, etc. The web server will have
some default file names (web pages) that it will serve if no
specific file is requested. this is often index.html, index.cfm,
etc. You want to add myindex.cfm to that list.

  • JavaDB / Apache Derby equivalent to the SQL Server IsNull and Oracle nvl

Firstly, if questions for JavaDB are supposted to go somewhere else, sorry for posting in the JDBC section, but I couldn't find a specific section for it.
I'm trying to add support for Apache Derby to a piece of software that already has support for Oracle, SQL Server and MySQL. There is a lot of DB specific coding involved to get the best performance possible. Several of these queries involve checking to see if a nested query returns a value and substituting 0 if no rows are returned.
In Oracle the function is called: nvl
In SQL Server the function is called: IsNull
In MySQL the function is called: IfNull
I can't find an equivalent for Derby. Does one exist?

While executing the xml_main proc from an anonymous block, I am getting the following error:
ORA-04063: package body "XDB.DBMS_XMLPARSER" has errors
ORA-06508: PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called: "XDB.DBMS_XMLPARSER"
    ORA-06512: at "BALB.XML_MAIN", line 9
    ORA-06512: at line 2
I've checked that the XDB is installed in my database by running the below query and getting the output
    select comp_name, version, status
    from dba_registry
    where comp_name like '%XML%';
    COMP_NAME VERSION STATUS
    Oracle XML Database 10.2.0.2.0 VALID
    1 row selected.
Please let me know a way out to resolve it?

    Ramesh,
Have you referred to the samples provided in the 8.1.7 doc section at :
    http://technet.oracle.com/docs/products/oracle8i/doc_library/817_doc/appdev.817/a86030/adx24pap.htm
In the above page, the link, "Using XML Parser for PL/SQL Examples in sample/" has sample code on using the
xmlparser, xmldom and xslprocessor packages. These samples are provided as demos with the XDK s/w that
normally gets installed in your ORACLE817_HOME/xdk directory.
    Hope that helps.

  • Parameters to pl/sql pages

    Hi all,
I installed the pdk examples showing how to pass parameters betweens pl/sql portlets. I saw it but not understand very weel. This is the same way to pass parameters between pl/sql pages? Is there any step-by-step that explain how to make the parameters passing more simple?
    Best regards,
    Joao Vitor.

    Hi Mick,
Thanks for your reply. However my problem is still not resolved.
I have created a Omniportlet with lists the staff details. When I click on the staff link I am passing to parameters as follows
    http://servername/pls/portal/url/PAGE/CCM_MIS_PORTAL/TUTOR_HOME/Course_Info?Param1=10017031/M2523&Param2=001434
on the receving page I have a omni portlet which must receive these 2 parameters and pass it on to the query and filter the results.
On the received page I have created 2 page parameters (Param1 and Param2)
I have assigned these 2 paramaters to the portlet paramers through page parameters' section
on the omni portlet in the query I have created 2 bind variables (p1, p2) and the default value of the bind variable is set using ##Param1## and ##Param2## so the received values from page is passed to to bind variable and hence to the query.
However the omni portlet is not received the parameters and I can not figure out whats wrong?
Is there any problem with my URL (guide says I should use relative URL)
    Please help
