German character 'ß' in wifi password - unable to connect!

Hi,
Any help would be appreciated - 3 trips to Apple stores today and still no luck! I'm trying to connect my Macbook Air to a wifi network that contains a 'ß' in it's password.
Is there anyway to get around this glitch? I'm using the German keyboard layout and have no problems inserting that character into finder, text edit etc - it just won't allow me to type it into the password dialog box.
Help me please!

Thanks Nerowolfe,
Believe me, this was our first option - unfortunatley the owner of the network has not come back to us.
I'm surprised there's no way around this... in the meantime there's the ethernet cable...

    Hey brainmasala,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Sounds like you are not able to connect to a Wi-Fi network with your iPad. This article has a section for Unable to connect to a Wi-Fi network and the second article is the recommended network settings. If after these it still has the same issue you may want to restore the device to factory settings.

  • Forgetting WiFi password, and not connecting to wireless access point automatically??

I'm using (until tomorrow when I get a MacBook Pro which HOPEFULLY won't have the same problem) a pre 2007 Macbook which is running Mac OS X 10.5.8. It was previously owned by my brother and passed onto me about 4 months ago. Within that time I've had nothing but problems with the WiFi connection!
The first issue would have to be that if I put the MacBook to "sleep" rather than turning off, it disconnects from WiFi during that process. Fine, that's to be expected. But when I wake it up, it's not only disconnected, but I have to re-enter my WiFi password in order to reconnect. Is there some reason that it will not remember the password through this sleep process? Turning off and on normally works fine, and it connects automatically, but not when it sleeps.
The second problem is equally confusing to my mind. In my house, we have a wireless access point upstairs (we have 3 floors after having our attic converted). All characteristics (name, password etc) are the same on the access point as on the main router downstairs. Every device in our house, included a couple of android phones, a tablet, and two laptops running various versions of Windows, all connect to this wireless access point with no problem at all. None of them have been "set up" to do so, in that they detect it as part of the same network and join it automatically. But for some reason, my MacBook won't do it? At first I would assume that perhaps it's due to the age of my MacBook and maybe some flaw in the old operation system, but my iPhone 4S running iOS 7 doesn't connect to this access point either. Is this some weird security thing that Apple use in their devices??
To make things even more frustrating, the MacBook's issue of remembering the WiFi password means that when I come back downstairs and into range of the main router, it's forgotten the password again and I have to re-enter it to reconnect.
Can some PLEASE offer some kind of assistance? I'm getting a brand new MacBook Pro tomorrow and if it's an OS issue then I assume I won't have it anymore, but I'm desperate to solve this issue one way or another considering this machine will be staying in the family and in this house so will pressumably have the same issues.
Thanks in advance guys! If I've not given enough info, just ask

  • Wifi still unable to connect. y location.

keep getting the unable to connect to wifi message. I've tried resetting network unplugging the router etc.

If it is only your home WiFi that has the problem then it rests in the router. Has it ever worked? Do you have MAC filtering enabled on the router? Is the router's SSID unique, or is it a default (e.g., LINKSYS, DLINK, etc)? Have you tried rebooting your phone? Have you tried "forgetting" the network on the phone? Have you tried Settings/General/Reset - Reset network settings?

  • Can i save the wifi password after being connected?

  • IPad mini wifi problem - "Unable to Connect"

I have an iPad mini and the WiFi disconnects as soon i go little far from wifi router, it always says "Unable to Connect", As soon i come near by it connects, that too it should a distance of 1 meter or max 2, if you move from that distance it disconnects, occuring same in office and at home. I have reset all setting and network setting too.

Reboot your router by unplugging it for a couple of minutes, then try to reconnect when it comes back up.

  • My iPad2(Wifi-16Gb) unable to connect to home wifi network after upgraded to iOS6. The said network is a remembered network and never face this connection issue before iOS6.

Forget and reconnect the netwrok doean't solve the problem.
Even Network Reset recommended in others iPad user in the forum can't help as well.
    Please advice. Thanks.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

    Hi decemberrain,
    Welcome to Nokia discussions board!
When entering the security code for a Wi-Fi connection, it should be the same as in messaging. When entering the Wi-Fi password, to key in dollar sign $, select "12#" key then the "1/2" key and you will find it.
If you don't have the same keyboard on the Wi-Fi password screen and in messaging, I advise you to check for updates and install them if available. If your device id up-to-date, reinstall the update via Nokia Suite.
Let us know how you get on and feel free to post any other questions you may have.

  • Wifi problem -- unable to connect to server SOLVED!

After trying all the methods suggested by people here, I finally can get my ipod touch connected to the internet and watch Youtube! Hurray.
I use linksys WRT54G router. I have tried the following methods but in vain:
    (1) disabled the security
    (2) disabled the mac filtering
    (3) reset the router, reset the ipod
    Finally I did it by:
    (1) upgrading the firmware to 1.02.4 (I haven't upgraded the firmware for a long time because the wireless works fine..don't bother to change anything). Just go to www.linksys.com and find the right upgrade file.
    (2) Change the WPA2 from TRIK to AES.
Then it works fine. Got the IP, subnet mask and DNS automatically.
Thanks for those who have contributed here!

you could also use WEP security as many ppl cant use AES or TRIK or WPA2..
Also could you mark this solved??

  • I am unable to connect my ipad to the internet via wifi, when asked for my password I get message "unable toI ge join network" however my laptop is able to access the internet using similar procedures and in the same physical location.?

I am unable to connect my IPad to the internet via WiFi, when asked for a password then attempt to join I get the messag "unable to join the network" however  if I use my laptop in  the same physical locationand using similar procedures I am able to conect.?

What router are you using? make/model/version
What security type are you using? If it is WEP then symbolic (non hex) keys may be converted to hex in different ways by different operating systems. Is your laptop a Windows PC?
If you are using WEP then drop it and move to WPA2. WEP has been deprecated by the WiFi alliance since 2004 as insecure (it can be hacked in seconds).

I am not able to connect to my Wifi. It keeps asking for a password and when i enter the password it either says Unable To Connect or Incorrect Password.
This occurred only after installing a new Wifi router from Qtel (service provider). any assisyance is greatly appreciated.

You should call Qtel technical support and ask for help.
Where did you get the password that you are trying? What does it look like? (Length, type of characters)
Do you know what type of security is being used? WEP, WPA, WPA2
