Get parent movieclip name

using the MovieClipLoader, all works fine.
attaching a series of movieclips with a nested clip, and
loading a jpg into each of these movieclip's nested clip.
in the listener func onLoadInit, I get passed the clip name
that is loaded, how do I neatly reference the parent of that clip?
Currently I can get the nested mc name (I'm simply using
target_mc like the help files use), but need to refer to it's
parent.
thx!

Gah. oh my. how silly of me.
Thank you so so much. :)

  • How to get Parent Symbol name of current e.target element ?

    How can I get the Parent Symbol name of the current e.target element ?
    would that involve using this ?
    getParentSymbol()
    Thanks for the help

    Hi ,
    I created a composition where I am trying to access the parent symbol of a rectangle. The structure is like this -
    Stage->parentMainSymbol->ChildSymbol->childRectangle. Now for the parentMainSymbol click , to access the rectangle element(which is the target) you can use the following snippet -
    sym.getComposition().getStage().getSymbol("parentMainSymbol").getSymbol("ChildSymbol").$(" childRectangle")
    Now, the parent of this is ChildSymbol whose reference could be obtained by -
    sym.getComposition().getStage().getSymbol("parentMainSymbol").getSymbol("ChildSymbol").$(" childRectangle")[0].offsetParent
    The info about the parent symbol is just being printed in the console view for the attached composition. This would print it out for -
    #Stage_parentMainSymbol_childSymbol which is the parent symbol of the target childRectangle under consideration.
    Kindly, take a look and let me know if it solves your problem.

  • HOw to get parent node name value through its child node?

    Hi,
    Experts,
    I am able to get child node name values but according to attribute name value i want to  get its parent name value how to achieve that. For that i have used If_Ixml_element->Get_parent. Please pass some idea on it.
    Thanks in advance,
    Shabeer ahmed.

    Hello Shabeer
    I think the coding should be straightforward:
    DATA: lo_element   TYPE REF TO if_ixml_element,
              lo_child        TYPE REF TO if_ixml_node,
              lo_parent      TYPE REF TO if_ixml_node.
    " NOTE: LO_ELEMENT holds your child node
      lo_child ?= lo_element.
      lo_parent = lo_child->get_parent( ).

  • Sending MovieClip name as function argument

    I have a form in Flash that contains twenty form fields
    comprised of a MovieClip.TextField pair. Each field has a unique
    parent MovieClip name and a common TextField name. Upon submission
    of the form, I want to write the data contained in each field to an
    array.
    Rather than write the same if-else if-else loop for each
    field, I would like to write a function that accepts the unique
    MovieClip name as an argument. Attached is a simplified version of
    my code. What am I doing wrong?!?

    Sorry... answering my own questions a second after asking
    them. I needed to pass the MovieClip name as a MovieClip to the
    argument. See attached code.

  • How to get immediate parent directory name of a file

    Hi,
    I have file Object that points to a file. I want to know how I can get just the name of the parent immediate to the file For example, if the path of this file is, c:\\ProgramFiles\first\second\third\myFile.txt
    In the above, how can I obtain the last directory in which myFile.txt resides ?
    Thanks
    Sangeetha

    File myFile = new File("c:\\ProgramFiles\\first\\second\\third\\myFile.txt");
    File parentFile = myFile.getParentFile();
    String parentDirectory = parentFile.getName();
    System.out.println("Parent directory is "+parentDirectory);Here's the explanation...
    1) New File is created
    2) File.getParentFile returns the immediate parent of the current File, which happens to be a directory.
    3) File.getName() returns the name of the File, without the entire directory structure.
    Hope this helps :)

  • Get the instance names of clips attached to a movieclip

    I want to get the instance names of all the cmovieclips that
    are attached to a movieclip.
    Is there a simple way to do this.
    I imagine this is something that can be done with AS3 but can
    it be done with AS2?
    regards J

    you're welcome.
    FYI: a for...in loop loops through all the accesible
    properties (in the broadest sense of the meaning, includes
    methods/functions and variables etc). Each time it finds one it (in
    this case) assigns the property name to the variable 'unknown'
    the code inside the loop just checks
    a) is it a property that references a movieclip instance and
    b) is it the same property name as the movieclip instance's
    _name property (this is to avoid listing additional references to
    the same movieclip instance that may be set up as variables in your
    McA's scope).
    I just read that and I'm wondering if it actually will help
    you understand... its quite complicated to describe,sorry...
    although its simple to understand once you get used to it. To learn
    you should experiment with a few for.. in loops on different
    objects and see what trace outputs you get.

  • Get image file name

    Hi ALL,
    I want all image file naming like a caption in my source document. Source document contains more than 100 images.
    But i got a script through the forum and tuned for my script. Still, the file naming comes for the Ist page image only.
    From second page onwards the file naming not comes like a caption.
    Trying script:
    //To Get image file name
    var tgt = app.activeDocument.rectangles;
    for (i=0;i<tgt.length;i++){
        myCaption = app.activeDocument.textFrames.add();
        myCaption.textFramePreferences.verticalJustification = VerticalJustification.TOP_ALIGN
        myCaption.contents = tgt[i].graphics[0].itemLink.name
        myCaption.paragraphs[0].justification = Justification.CENTER_ALIGN;
        bnds = tgt[i].visibleBounds;
        myCaption.visibleBounds =
            [bnds[2]+12, bnds[1], bnds[2]+4,bnds[3]];
            //[bnds[0]-6, bnds[1], bnds[0]-1,bnds[3]];
            myCaption.fit(FitOptions.FRAME_TO_CONTENT);
    Thanks in advance
    BEGINNER

    If you use the add() method in conjunction with the document without specifying the page or better the spread, all objects added will end up on the first spread of your document.
    But your testing scenario is also too narrow. You are expecting:
    1. All your graphics are sitting in Rectangle objects (what about Ovals or Polygons?)
    Therefore: All graphics placed in ovals or polygons are left out.
    2. That really ALL rectangles in your document contain graphics
    You are in trouble, if there happen to be empty rectangles on a page. I would suggest to test that with your script. It will give you an error, because there is no graphics[0] for this specific rectangle, where you can draw the "name" for the "itemLink".
    3. That there are no graphics in anchored objects or pasted inside other objects; left alone graphics inside table cells.
    And who can say that thiese three restrictions exist in all documents you want to run this script against?
    So, if you want to get to all image files in the document, why don't you start with the images in the first place?
    Let's see:
    the Document object has an "allGraphics" property.
    Use that as a starting point and you will not missing a single graphic.*
    Iterate through "allGraphics" will get you:
    the "name" of the placed image through its itemLink.name property;
    the container of the graphic, that's the "parent" of the graphic.
    Now you need one other thing:
    the page, or even better(!) the spread where the graphic is located. Imagine a graphic sitting outside of a page.
    If you want to handle thiese, you must know the spread.
    If  writing this script for InDesign CS5 or above, you are in luck. There is a "parentPage" property of the "Graphic" object, you could use for your add() method. For graphics outside of pages this property will be "null".
    And another important thing:
    if a graphic is copy/pasted from e.g. PhotoShop to InDesign, the "itemLink"  property of that graphic is also "null".
    We can handle that in a try/catch scenario…
    //Scope: all graphics on all pages
    //(that includes graphics of anchored objects, active states of MSOs, graphics in table cells as well)
    var tgt = app.activeDocument.allGraphics;
    for(var i=0;i<tgt.length;i++){
        //Narrow the scope to all graphics on pages only:
        if(tgt[i].parentPage != null){
            //What to do with graphics, that are pasted directly from none-InDesign files:
            //the caption will read "Undefined"
            try{
            var myName = tgt[i].itemLink.name;
            }catch(e){var myName = "Undefined"};
            //targets the page of the graphic:
            var myPage = tgt[i].parentPage;
            //adds a text frame to the page of the graphic:
            var myCaption = myPage.textFrames.add();
            myCaption.textFramePreferences.verticalJustification = VerticalJustification.TOP_ALIGN;
            myCaption.contents = myName;
            myCaption.paragraphs[0].justification = Justification.CENTER_ALIGN;
            //Why visible bounds and not geometric bounds?
            var bnds = tgt[i].parent.visibleBounds;
            myCaption.visibleBounds = [bnds[2]+12, bnds[1], bnds[2]+4,bnds[3]];
            myCaption.fit(FitOptions.FRAME_TO_CONTENT);
    *Not exactly true, because it is missing graphics in not-active states of  MultiStateObjects.
    Since MSOs were introduced in InDesign CS5 the DOM documentation left out this fact so far.
    //EDIT: in the first version I had a comment on a different scope. Since  Document Objects have no "graphic" property, I removed that comment. Sorry.

  • Get parent window in webutil

    Hi,
    I am trying to migrate 6i libraries to 10g in Orcle forms, in one of the pll it is using below procedure.
    In this it is calling wi_api_utility.get_parent_window procedure, which is part of d2kwutil.
    Now I have to use webutil instead of d2kwutil, becuase d2kwutil will not supported for webforms.
    Is there any same procedure avaialble in webutil to replace win_api's get_parent_window?
    If anyone knows solution for this please help me.
    Thanks.
    PROCEDURE Window_On_Top (Window_Name IN WINDOW) is

    Hi,
    Solved.
    If alias name of parent databank always remains same, then you can directly use +"{{db.aliasName.ColumnName}}"+
    Otherwise, to get parent databank alias name use

  • Get parent component

    Hi all,
    Is there any method to get parent component (container) of a jcomponent?

    Did you think to look at the API? Some method names are obvious. Other are not. The least you can do is try. All you had to do was find any method with the word "parent" in it.

  • Getting the constraint name with sql%bulk_exceptions

    Hello folks,
    Is there any way to get the constraint name that was violated using sql%bulk_exceptions.
    I've a parent table and it's two children tables. When I try to delete from parent using forall, save exceptions, I want to know what constraint violated at what iteration of a bulk operation.
    I've following script.
    set serveroutput on
    drop table chld;
    drop table chld2;
    drop table prnt;
    create table prnt(n number primary key);
    insert into prnt select level from dual connect by level<11;
    create table chld(cn number references prnt(n));
    insert into chld select level from dual connect by level<3;
    create table chld2(cn number references prnt(n));
    insert into chld2 select level*3 from dual connect by level<3;
    select * from prnt;
    select * from chld;
    select * from chld2;
    commit;
    declare
      type t_prnt_obj is table of prnt.n%type index by pls_integer;
      t_prnt_tab t_prnt_obj;
      l_exp_cnt integer;
    begin
      select n bulk collect into t_prnt_tab from prnt order by n;

  • Getting a DisplayObjectContainer name

    Hi to Eone,
    I'd like to know if is possible to trace the name of a container object using the contained object.
    Something like:
    mc1 = new Movieclip();
    cont1.addChild(mc1);
    trace ("container object is: " + mc1.function_I_need());
    OUTPUT
    container object is: cont1
    this because i need to know the name of the container object in order to use method such as getChildIndex etc etc
    Thx a lot

    if you're defining a custom class that extends movieclip and you want to define a custom method function_I_need(), use:
    public function function_I_need():DisplayObjectContainer{  //<- to return the parent
    return this.parent;
    // or
    public function function_I_need():String{  //<- to return the parent's name
    return this.parent.name;
