Get-WmiObject to remote computer fails with "rpc server is unavailable" and vice versa "Access denied"

Hi
Still learning PowerShell remoting.
Can access with remoting 2 computers (XPProf/SP3, Workgroup) perfect. Powershell2.0 (running as Administrator).
Using Firewall ZoneAlarm not Windows Firewall (stopped).
But when using Get-WMIObject always run into
"rpc server is unavailable" in one direction and "Access denied" in the other direction.
Searched the forum but didnt find infos.
Switched off Firewalls: Still the same.
So I'm stuck.
Any help is appreciated.

Yo encontré estas recomendaciones que me sirvieron para poder consultar el servidor remoto.
http://www.poweradmin.com/help/enablewmi.aspx
 Allow WMI through Windows firewall
All users (including non-administrators) are able to query/read WMI data on the local computer.
For reading WMI data on a remote server, a connection needs to be made from your management computer (where our monitoring software is installed) to the server that you're monitoring (the target server). If the target server is running Windows Firewall (aka
Internet Connection Firewall) like what is shipped with Windows XP and Windows 2003, then you need to tell it to let remote WMI requests through2. This can only be done at the
command prompt. Run the following on the target computer if it is running a Windows firewall:
netsh firewall set service RemoteAdmin enable
Como segunda opcion tambien se puede modificar el group policy y especificar que ips tendran acceso a consultar el WMI remotamente.
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc738900(v=ws.10).aspx
Using Group Policy
To enable or disable the Remote administration exception
Open the Group Policy Object Editor snap-in to edit the Group Policy object (GPO) that is used to manage Windows Firewall settings in your organization.
Open Computer Configuration, open Administrative Templates, open Network, open Network Connections, open Windows
Firewall, and then open either Domain Profile or Standard Profile, depending on which profile you want to configure.
In the details pane, double-click Windows Firewall: Allow remote administration exception.
In the Windows Firewall: Allow remote administration exception properties dialog box, on the Settings tab, click Enabled or Disabled.

  • Hyper-V host fails with "RPC Server unavailable" error when I try to promote Windows Server in virtual machine to a domain controller

Host: Windows Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V and RRAS (for Internet over NAT)
VM: Windows Server 2012 R2 with installed Active Directory Domain Services
When I open AD DS configuration window (“promote this server to a domain controller”) many services and programs on my host (include Hyper-V, RRAS & Server Manager) fails with RPC Server unavailable error.

    Hello Aleksandr,
There wasn't any configuration information, ipconfig /all, network setup, etc. So it's difficult to tell.
More importantly, are you trying to promote the host server? If yes, that is not advised, for one, because it's a Hyper-V server, (not suggested at all), and two, RRAS is installed. RRAS is problematic with any domain controller because it turns it into
    a multihomed domain controller.

    Networking?
I don't know how your networking is setup, whether there are multiple NICs on the host server, if they are teamed, if you have the host interface set to allow the operating system to share administration, or if there are separate interfaces for each. Can
the host OS ping/communicate with the DC virtual machine?
If there are more than one NIC, you have the choice to team the NICs and share the Teamed NICs for the Hyper-V OS and the VMs, or keep them separate where one is devoted for the Hyper-V OS, and one for the VMs.

  • Syncing LR catalogs with folder pics on HD and vice-versa

LR 1.4.1 running Mac OS (Tiger)
I'm a relatively new LR user and I've switched over from using iPhoto recently.
I am trying to sync the actual content of my picture folders in my hard drive (HD) with that which is displayed in LR's Library, but with some difficulty.
The problem is that I may have picture files on my HD that for whatever reason, are NOT displayed in LR. Is there a way to tell LR to sync the Library catalogs with the picture folders that are in my actual hard drive?
    For example:
On my HD, let's say I have a folder called "Family", which contains 5 picture files (combination of JPEG and RAW): "mom1", "mom2", "dad1", "dad2", "brother". Although the "Family" folder/catalog appears in the "Library" of LR, I am only able to see "mom1", "mom2" and "dad1" in LR and the catalog displays 3 total files in "Family" (instead of the 5 pic files which I know exist on my HD).
When I try to import "dad2" and "brother" into LR, it is not allowed because LR tells me that those files already exist in "Family". If they exist, why can't I see them?
My basic question is: Is there a way to easily sync catalogs in LR with the folders in the HD, so that what I see in LR is actually representative of what is on my HD (a 1:1 would be great).
Thanks in advance to anyone that can shed some light on this.
I feel like this is something that could be resolved quickly but I just don't understand LR enough at this point.
    Cheers,
    Dave Lewry

Thanks for the quick reply, LJ.
    I'll try it tonight.
Out of curiosity, what if I had manually added a picture to the folder in my HD. Would I simply import in LR and it would add the pic to my catalog? Would there be a problem of LR telling me the picture already exists in my folder (in the HD), even though I cannot see it in LR?
Is there a way to sync actual HD folders so that LR catalogs and HD folders and their contents are always representative of each other? (Sorry if you answered this and I am simply reiterating my original question.)
    Cheers,
    Dave

I really want to use an itunes download as my ring tone on my iphone 4, how do I do that?

This is best done on your Mac in iTunes - create a copy of the song, trim it to the best length for a ringtone, change the filename extension to m4r and sync it to your phone.

  • Bare metal restore of full server backup fails with RPC error 0x800706BA (server 2012)

With Windows Server 2012, after creating a successful windows server backup (full server), I am unable to do a bare metal restore of the system.
EFI System Partition, C:, D: are the volumes on a single array (Raid 5).
Loading WinRE and launching re-image, the full server restore stops after completing the C: restore just after beginning the D: drive restore (data volume) with the error with the message about RPC error 0x800706BA, unavailable.
The system will not boot as a result of the failure.
    What may be causing this?
    [edit]
I think I have two things working against me here... one, Volume Shadow Copy service wasn't running in WinPE and two.. the D: volume contains data deduplication.
I think this is causing some of my problems.
Is there an additional service that I need to start in WinPE to get a volume that was deduplicated restored perhaps using wbadmin?

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply Shaon.
The hardware system is identical; however, I am increasing storage capacity from 12TB to 16TB.  Basically, the system is the same, just new hard drives (4x4TB versus 4x3TB).  Drives are all identical enterprise class drives and I am actually using
the same system (backup, swap drives then restore).
I tried both using the WinRE restore (re-image) with the backup set, and tried using wbadmin.  Both produce same RPC unavailable messages (although using the GUI based tool via WinRE provides the additional error code #).
I do not have any idea what to look at to try to figure this one out.
    [edit]
I was just informed of this posting:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/147efccc-e0e9-4458-852e-c3a44ae5cb64/the-system-image-restore-failed-error-details-he-rpc-server-is-unavailable-0x800706ba?forum=windowsbackup
and in my case, this lab server does in fact act also as a DC as well as a file server...  do I need to spin up a secondary controller (perhaps in a VM on another machine) to do this restore?

    Hi Henado
Check the time on your Exchange server(s) relative to the DCs and ensure they are in correct sync
Use another account which is assigned the Organization Management permission and log to to the server run the command in shell and see the results
    Run
    Add-PSSnapin -Name Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.E2010
Set-Adserversettings -ViewEntireForest $True and then run message tracking command and see the results
If none of the above helps you may need to remove and re-install the WinRM and see the results
    Good Luck :)

    Hi Manu,
As Deepak mentioned, please try to enable IPv6 on all member servers first.
Based on my research, In Microsoft Exchange Server 2013, IPv6 is supported only when IPv4 is also installed and enabled. If Exchange 2013 is deployed in this configuration, and the network supports IPv4 and IPv6, all Exchange servers can send data to and
receive data from devices, servers, and clients that use IPv6 addresses.
Please also configure or disable Firewall to allow the connection.
    Thanks

  • Cluster Aware Updating - Failed to restart - The RPC Server is unavailable

I have a 3 node Windows Server 2012 R2 Failover Cluster, and I'm having trouble getting Cluster Aware Updating to work properly. I have been able to successfully apply updates that do not require a reboot, however, anytime I have updates that
do require a reboot, the process fails. The error message says:
Failed to restart <ServerName>:(ClusterUpdateException) Failed to restart <ServerName>:(Win32Exception) The RPC server is unavailable ==> (Win32Exception) The RPC server is unavailable
I have verified that the firewall rule to allow automatic restarts is configured according to Technet: Requirements and Best Practices for Cluster-Aware Updating
I have also made sure that the CAU AD account has local admin rights, as well as "Force shutdown from a remote system" rights on each of the cluster nodes. In this case, I have been applying updates manually from my workstation (which is not a
member of the cluster) while logged in with Domain Admin rights (as opposed to letting the cluster update itself based on a schedule). I'd like to verify that the entire process works properly before letting it update itself. What am I missing?

Hi Duct tape and super glue,
Could you offer us more information about your environment status now, such as

  • The RPC server is unavailable while trying to take Remote Desktop of 2003 Server.

    Dear All
Recently I am facing remote desktop login problem in on Windows 2003 Server.
While I am enter user name and password server give me logon error.
"The system cannot log you on due to the following error:
    The RPC server is unavailable.
Please try again or consult your system administrator.
    Kindly help me.........

I just started spontaneously having this problem yesterday. I am not aware of anything having changed that would prompt it, though I did do a Windows Update on all servers AFTER the problem manifested to see if that might fix it. (No such luck) For reasons
unexplained, the system HAS let me in a few times, though it hasn't been consistent, and now it seems to have locked me out entirely (except through the VSphere back door, explained below). I am running Windows 7 on my laptop, and I have received a report
of the same problem from another employee trying to log in from their computer, which I believe is also running Win7.
I am running two VMWare instances of Server 2003 R2, one Domain Controller and another production environment. I can RDP just fine to the DC, but not the production. Also, using the VSphere VMware management client on a separate machine, I CAN log in to
the production environment without a problem.
I have tried the fixes around restarting stopped services, but nothing has helped yet. I've also tried disabling my anti-virus temporarily, with no effect. I tried pinging the various IP addresses, and received timeouts on the 2 images, as well as their
host server. Again, though, I CAN log into the DC without issue.
Could someone please elaborate on how to create this registry key? On which image would I add this key? (I am a novice user, so using regedit is somewhat unfamiliar to me)
Any other thoughts about potential solutions?
    Thanks!
Update Dec 15 2011: Just tried restarting the Production image, via VSphere, and then successfully logged in and out 3 times in quick succession by regular RDP. The symptoms have been temporarily soothed, though I wonder if the underlying problem remains?
Still no answer to why this happened in the first place, so I'd appreciate input.
Update Dec 16 2011: The problem came back this morning, and remained all day. I can still access by VSphere, but have other users who need to access by regular RDP. I'd rather not have to reboot the system constantly just to allow access... Any help is much
    appreciated!

  • RPC Server is unavailable when trying to renew or request a new certificate with new key

    Hi
I have a couple of wireless access points (AP's) that are unable to use our RADIUS server to authenticate.
This started happening after a power outage, and I did a gracefull shutdown of the RADIUS server.  When the server was booted up the AP's appear to have lost the ability to authenticate users of both PC's and mobile devices.
I looked through the Network Policy server  MMC and didn't find anything there.
Next I looked at the certificates and found 2 in the Personal>Certificates folder, that I think are related to this configuration.  The odd thing is they expired the exact same day as the power outage.
So I tried to Renew and then Recreate the certificate's key. That's when I received the RPC server unavailable.  I also tried creating a new key from scratch, same problem.
I did a lot of searching on the web so I have seen this thread and I have checked all the things recommended, none of the suggestions helped:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/2b93bfa8-c162-4fc8-9cf3-a8f8f8c8ff29/rpc-server-is-unavailable-requesting-a-new-certificate?forum=winservergen
I must admit I am at a loss as to where to look next.
    Help is very much appreciated.

Are you also the admin of the certificate authority?
=====I am the admin, but my knowledge of this topic is low.
If the CA is operational, the next steps are:
    - Any firewalls between your client and this CA? Did somebody change the desktop firewalls settings at the CA?
===== There are no firewalls between the client and CA nor have the desktop firewall rules changed.
    - Can sombody (the PKI admin?) confirm that the CA works fine and other clients can enroll? What's the difference between those clients and yours?
===== I will see about trying this out and report back.
    - Is the CA probably in a different domain and does Kerberos authentication work fine between domains? I had sometimes seen things like: CA is in a root domain but clients cannot talk to Root DCs as per firewall settings - thus clients cannot get Kerberos tickets
from the domain hosting the CA. (Certificate enrollment is sometimes the first application that really requires Kerberos and cannot fall back to NTLM). A network trace would help here.
    =====
The CA is in the same domain.
    - Did somebody tweak with DCOM permissions or lock down flags at the CA (unlikely)
===== The DCOM settings haven't been touched by anyone.
    Thanks

  • Where to get solution for "The RPC server is unavailable"

On my Windows XP Pro PC I installed a new CMOS button battery.  The result is my PC is almost useless.  Although it boots up and shows the Desktop as before, most MS things will not work (now I can not Copy, Cut, Paste, Move, see Properties, Open
or Run most MS things and much more).  Many non-MS programs DO work.  When I checked the specifications it says "The RPC server is unavailable"...  So it seems clear that in the 5 seconds it took to insert the new battery that this
vital RPC was stopped, and that has wrecked most everything.
[Note: The Time & Date of course needed resetting after the battery change, but that is the one thing I've been able to repair, so I do not need help with that.]
I have been going through the ANSWERS.MICROSOFT.COM forums for help, and I see there are MANY "RPC-Unavailable" questions and MANY "solutions".  I have tried many, many of these solutions but none work... that is, I think they might
work IF the RPC was already running, but they do not work on my PC where the RPC is not running.  [For instance, one solution is to go to Services, right-click the RPC, open Properties and click Automatic... but I can not open any Properties.  However,
I was able to click "Start"... but it would not start.]
Believe me, I have tried MANY other things, including trying to Repair my Net Framework 3.5... that Failed.  Then downloaded (Firefox still works, though IE does not) the Net Framework 3.5 and tried to reinstall... that Failed, too.  I tried "System
Restore" but that would not work.  I even inserted my WinXP install disk, set for Boot from CD, and while it said it was booting from CD it simply ignored the disk and booted normally (to the "RPC unavailable" OS).  And I have tried
many of these "solutions" in all 3 Safe Modes to no avail.
Can you please suggest which Forum can truly help with this problem?  Thanks very much!

Dave Patrick, Thank you very much for your response.  But...
As I said, I have already been combing through that forum with no success.  I posted my question there on March 11 and received only one answer which unfortunately was not at all helpful.  That's why I hoped you could direct me to some better source
    for help.
Also, I don't understand your last comment: "Since this was triggered from hardware issues you might try the desktop manufacturer forums as well."  I thought it was strictly from the MS OS software.  Do you mean the RPC stuff is in the
ROM, BIOS or motherboard and so I should hunt a non-MS forum, maybe Dell, or the battery manufacturer?
Please forgive my probably dumb questions; most of this is over my head so I really crave some help.
Note:  If you look at the answers.microsoft.com forums you see that this RPC problem goes back many years, and I've seen none attributing it to a new button battery... many different causes, apparently.  And, as I said, none of the many "solutions"
I've tried have worked.  It just seems to me that after all these years of this problem that surely SOME real solution exists by now.  Where, oh where can I find it?
