Getting Absolute timestamps from FPGA 7831R

I am using a LIN card in my PXI Chassis. This is not an NI product and it cannot access any triggering lines. The device itself returns an array of timestamped measurements but the problem is that the are relative timestamps. I need to have an absolute timestamp so that I can compare timing with other DAQ devices. The only way I can access this is by using a 5V trigger output line. I can set this to trigger on each identifier.
My problem is how to acquire an absolute timestamp. I would not need to get one very often. once every few seconds would be sufficient at worst case.
I have used an M series card analog input which can be triggered and this has given good results.
But I have to use this card for other measurements at the same time so I cannot normally use it as I wish.
The only other option that I have is an FPGA card. RIO 7831R.
Does anyone know how to get absolute timestamps from such a card without having to connect it to any other card?
This would be a great help.
Thanks in advance
Jimmy

Hi Jimmy,
You can make product suggestions using links on the following web page:
http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/EDA7C01C684ACB6286256FF0000238D5?OpenDocument
I'm not sure there is anything else we can do to help you - the only other alternative would be to use the FPGA board to monitor this trigger line, and when it sees a trigger fires an IRQ to the host program which is waiting on this - and then at this point get the current time in software.
I'm not sure that there is a more accurate way of getting this timing information, as it seems its just a limitation of this LIN card that you have.

    How do we get millisecond values from timestamp column in v$logmnr_contents.
    I tried with following query.

    May be there's an easy way solving your problem, I did it like that:
    CREATE TABLE quota_test (test VARCHAR2(50))
    INSERT INTO quota_test
    VALUES ('update "SCOTT"."NEWTAB1" set a="34" and b="45"')
    SELECT test normal, REPLACE(SUBSTR(test,INSTR(test,'"',1),INSTR(test,'.',1)+2),'"','') changed
    FROM quota_test
    Result is :
    NORMAL
    update "SCOTT"."NEWTAB1" set a="34" and b="45"
    CHANGED
    SCOTT.NEWTAB1

  • Lost Milliseconds when getting timestamp from database

    I store a timestamp in DB2 by formatting the current timestamp using the following format mask :
    "yyyy-MM-dd-H.mm.ss.SSS". I query the database and the milliseconds are there. When I retrieve a resultset from the database and get the column using rs.getTimestamp(), I reformat it using the same formatting mask and LOSE all the milliseconds. I believe I'm losing the milliseconds when I execute the getTimestamp() method. What do I have to do to get the entire timestamp from the database, including the milliseconds?

    I pulled this quote directly out of the jdk docs:
    "If a time value that includes the fractional seconds is desired, you must convert nanos to milliseconds (nanos/1000000)"
    the timestamp doesn't actually have a millisecond value. You can get it by calling the getNanos() function and /1000000.
    you might be losing the millisecond value because there isn't a millisecond value, only nanoseconds.
    good luck

  • How do you get a RESPONSE from Verizon?

    How does one get a response from Verizon?  Here's my situation...
    Given the amount of trouble that I have had with a recent order, you would think that I was trying to land a 747 jet on my roof.  In reality, all I was aiming to do was to cancel the $19.99 per month phone service that I never used.  I do not even own a phone, for that matter.  I also had enhanced high speed Internet, and I wanted to retain the high speed Internet.  A few days before January 13, 2012, I called Verizon and spoke to the 1st sales representative, who ensured me that it was no problem to cancel the phone service and yet retain the high speed Internet for the same monthly price.  24 hours later, my high speed DSL service was no longer functioning.  I will try to briefly explain the disastrous customer service that ensued.
    The first several phone calls to Verizon were not productive as I was transferred to the wrong department, and then at least one of my phone calls was dropped by the Verizon server.  The representative did not call me back.  I finally got in touch with a technical support representative, the 2nd Verizon representative, who informed me that the high speed Internet had been turned off and that I had to speak to a sales representative to solve the issue.  Another sales representative, the 3rd Verizon representative, informed me that the 1st representative had cancelled my phone line, and thus cancelled all of my services.  Great.  The 3rd representative informed me that he was absolutely capable of handling the problem and that he would simply add a new order for high speed Internet, which was to be activated the next morning.  The next morning came and went, and guess what?  No Internet.  I called again.  The 4th Verizon representative told me that everything that had been done previously was incorrect and that the sales department is not capable of making such changes.  She told me that she could not help me and that my claim had to be submitted to a different department, which has the authority to un-do all of the previous changes.  She told me that I would receive a call back the same day to resolve the issue.  Given my previous experiences with Verizon, I was confident that I would not, in fact, receive a call back and so I asked her how I could get transferred to this department, if I needed to call again.  She said that I could not be transferred.  Okay.  So then I asked her what to ask for so that next time I called, I could be transferred to the correct department without dealing with yet another sales representative who gives me yet a different story.  She informed me that she could not provide that information to customers.  The Department That Shall Not Be Named (and that I cannot contact) did not call me, and I was not surprised.  Unfortunately, I did not know how to go about contacting them, because, as I was told, customers aren’t allowed to do that.
    The 6th phone call to Verizon was dropped by the Verizon server.  The 7th phone call to Verizon went to the 5th Verizon representative, a sales associate who placed us on hold for the first 15 minutes only to inform us that she could not find any record of our Internet service.  What the heck was she doing, checking her Facebook account?  She finally returns, puts us on another extended hold, and then adamantly tells us that we need to speak with technical support, which, if you recall, was the first Verizon party that I spoke at the beginning of this debacle.  The 5th  representative transfers me again to technical support.  Of course, the technical support personnel, the 6th Verizon representative said what the first one did, that the account was inactive and that we needed to talk to the sales department.  My husband was on the phone at this point because I was DONE.  When the 6th technical support representative tried to transfer him back to the sales department, my husband insisted that the 6th technical support representative remain on the line while we spoke to yet another sales representative, the 7th Verizon representative.  The 6th technical support representative patiently waited with us while we sat in yet another long queue to speak with a member of the sales department.
    The 7th sale representative, from the retention department based out of New Jersey, found that all previous orders had been set up erroneously.  She cancelled the old orders and reinstated a completely new order.  The DSL began working a few days later.  MAGIC.  She then left me a voicemail message saying that she would eliminate the activation and shipping fee (duh) as I never canceled the account to begin with and as I already had the equipment.  She also applied a coupon to reduce the price to around $30 per month, assured for the next 2 years.  I was relieved.
    You can imagine our frustration then when we received the bill for $79 on February 6, 2012, which included a much higher monthly rate (around $45) and the shipping and activation fee of $19.99 that we were assured we would not pay. Again, nothing was shipped to us because we already had the equipment.
    Our next phone call to Verizon landed us with a guy, the 8th Verizon representative, who had no intention of helping us.  According to him, there was no record of these wrongs, and despite the fact that we had an old account number and three order numbers that were screwed up, he did not deem that there was enough evidence to change our monthly bill.  (Unfortunately, the 7th Verizon representative did not make notes or appropriately document the situation on the new account.)  The 8th Verizon representative then had the audacity to comment that we could be lying to him, yet he was unwilling to view the evidence that we could have presented.  Instead, he suggested that we call tech support again and try to go through the same process to get connected to the mysterious “retention department” which he knew nothing about.
    At this point, I was beyond fed up.  The attitude of the 8th Verizon representative put me over the edge.  I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) with an abbreviated version of this story.  I did not file the complaint to get back at Verizon.  Instead, I filed the complaint because I knew that another phone call to Verizon would be useless.  I’ve been dealing with this issue for over a month, and I’m sick of it.  I have better things to do with my time, believe it or not, and this situation has resulted in a significantly waste of my time over what, in my opinion, was a very simple issue to resolve.
    The BBB processed the complaint and I was contacted last Friday afternoon by a Verizon representative (the 9th) who said that she was looking into the matter and that she would respond to me within two to three business days.  Well, it’s almost the end of the week, and I have received no response.  Again, after all of this, how could I be surprised?
    I have been a Verizon customer, wireless and residential, for as long as I can remember, but I am reaching the point of outrage.  This situation is truly unacceptable.
    You would think that, in 2012, with all of the technology available to us and the fact that Verizon is a COMMUNICATIONS COMPANY, that at least Verizon employees would be able to make a basic change to an existing order and that at least one out of 9 Verizon representatives would be able to solve this issue in a span of over four weeks.  Think again.
    How does one get a response from Verizon?

    Yes, it indeed boggles the mind.  I'm of course referring to the fact that your post concerns Verizon Wireless products and services.  This forum is dedicated exclusively to Verizon Communications services.   As you probably know, Verizon Wireless and Verizon Communications operate as separate companies.

  • How to get absolute path of a form within the Forms

    Aslam o Alikum (Hi)
    How to get absolute path of a form within the Forms 6i or 9i
    For example
    i am running a from "abc.fmx" from C:\myfolder directory
    can i get the form path 'C:\myfolder' by calling any any function from "abc.fmb"

    There is no direct call that will always work. What you need to do is call get_application_property(current_form). This may have the full path in it, depending on if that path was defined when the form was launched. If there is no path, then you need to use TOOL_ENV.GETVAR to read the Forms<nn>PATH and the ORACLEPATH, parse those out into individual directories and then check for the FMX in each.
    I already have some code to do all this for you see:

  • How do I get a timestamp for each daq counter measurement?

    Hello, I am currently using DAQmx to read a PWM signal and calculate the pulse width using the implicit timer. Is it possible to also get the timestamp of each pulse width measurement? I have been able to do this with an analog signal by using a waveform output, but I can't figure out how to do this with a counter measurement. Thanks in advance for the help!

    I think that you have asked a great question. Something that many engineers may not be aware of is that the DAQ device itself does not actually create the time stamp. It is created by the comptuer system when the data is retreived from the DAQ card. Because of this, the time stamp is actually delayed by a significant amount. This delay may be less than the resolution for time stamps (one millisecond) but it can sometimes be greater than that. This Knowledge Base article discusses it this in more detail: http://ae.natinst.com/public.nsf/web/searchinternal/5d42ccb17a70a06686256dba007c5eea?OpenDocument
    If your pulses are closely spaced, the generating a timestamp for each aquisition is not practical. But, if your pulses are spread apart by a significant amount (more than 0.1 seconds or so depending on the specifics) then the timestamp might be accurate enough to be practical. One way to do that with counters would be to use the Get Date/Time in Seconds VI in LabVIEW just after the DAQmx Read VI. Then, once the Counter Input measurement is complete, LabVIEW will create that timestamp very quickly afterward. Please notice that there will be some time delay between the completion of the read and the creation of the time stamp.

  • How to get modification timestamp of user in GAL

    Hi,
    Sorry for bothering you but I have one more question.
    In general I have performance issue. I am downloading users from GAL with all details and it takes about 3h. GAL has about 17000 users. I didn't found any solution to make it faster.
    But in next sync I would like to get data only for modified users but I don't know how to do it efficiently.
    Now I will describe more details.
    <pseudocode>
    Foreach( var addressEntry in Application.Session.AddressLists[…].AddressEntries)
    Var eu = addressEntry.GetExchangeUser()
    Var props = addressEntry.PropertyAccessor.GetProperties(…)
    LocalDb.SaveContact(addressentry, eu, props)
    The most time expensive part is :
    addressEntry.PropertyAccessor.GetProperties(…)
    ,it takes 2,5h. I would like in next “Download Process” download only modified entires but I don’t know how to get the timestamp efficiently. The timestamp is available using this:
    addressEntry.PropertyAccessor.GetProperty(“http://schemas.microsoft.com/mapi/proptag/0x30080040“)
    , but this is as slow as

    Can I get the timestamp information in other way, more efficiently?

    Mots address book providers (GAL included) are not very good with restrictions.
    GAL address book provider does not really do anything that you cannot do through the Active Directory interfaces. You should be able to run AD queries that use the "last modified  time" attribute.

  • Problems getting started with LabVIEW FPGA

    Two (probably) related questions:
    1. I am trying to get started with LabVIEW FPGA, and I am having trouble using a host VI to test my FPGA VI. I started with a basic QAM modulator VI, to be run on the FPGA, and I have reached the point where I need to verify the logic and timing with this VI running on the development computer with simulated IO. I have tried various combinations of putting the code inside single-cycle timed loops vs not; putting the modulator block directly into the host VI, and using the "FPGA reference" block. When neither the host VI nor the modulator VI use a single-cycle timed loop, I see correct behavior. In every other case, the output of the VI is either absent or incorrect. I need to use a single-cycle timed loop in the FPGA VI to properly verify timing behavior (as far as I know), so the one functioning case is not enough for me.
    I'm sure there is a key step I'm missing or misunderstanding, but I have not been able to figure it out myself yet. I've attached my modulator diagram as well as two different attempts at host VIs. I can share other information, but I'm not sure what is most relevant.
    2. I am also trying to test a simple wrapper VI for the Xilinx FFT block, and I am having trouble accessing FIFOs inside the host VI. I thought this would be relatively straightforward, but when I tried to change the "method" on an "invoke method" block, there were no options for accessing FIFOs, as I understood there should be. This is a total roadblock for me. These two diagrams are also attached, the test diagram shows the options available to me for the "invoke method" block.

    I had to combine the diagram images; in case they are hard to follow this way, see the individual images here: http://imgur.com/a/oB6OD .
    Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Hello Monguin61
    If you are having problems reading from DMA FIFO's you should test them using a very simple code to understand their behavior. First, you could start taking a look to the linked documents:
    Reading DMA FIFOs from Host VIs (FPGA Interface)
    Using DMA FIFO to Develop High-Speed Data Acquisition Applications for Reconfigurable I/O Devices
    FIFO.Read (Invoke Method)
    Then you could test and analyze a simple example to understand how it works, for example this one: Simple DMA FIFO Example for FPGA.
    Check the references when you are using DMA FIFO's, I noticed you did not connect them in the second picture attached.

    i have declared a variable

    Why? What does that 8 mean to you? Did you read the docs to see what it means to Timestamp?

    in databse.Did you read the docs for Timestamp? There's a constructor and/or a set method that takes a Date or a number of millis. You can get the current time in millis with System.currentTimeMillis. (I think that's the method name. Look at System's docs.)
    As far as inserting it, you'll do something like this: TimeStamp ts = ...;
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConection(...);
    PreparedStatement ps = con.prepareStatement("insert into foo (bar) values (?)");
    ps.setTimestamp(1, ts);
    ps.executeUpdate(); Google for jdbc tutorial for more details.

  • FPGA 7831R Damage

    I incorrectly connected 13v to some DIO pins of my FPGA 7831R card and now they do not operate. The manual says 7v max for DIO.
    The pins in question are the DIO 2,3,6,7 of the MIO connector and I was using these as DIO inputs to monitor 2 relays for activations.
    On an activation I returned Hall pulses to simulate a motor movement.
    I have moved my software to other pins and connected these to the 5v output from my target board as opposed to the relay outputs and it works fine but is there any way of repairing the damage ?
    Is there SMD fuses for these pins that I can replace ?

    Hi,
    If the board it self is damaged, I would advise contacting your local NI Branch to organise a return and repair. They will be able to process this for you. However, if you go ahead with trying to repair it your self, it might void the warranty.
    I believe you are in the UK, please find the contact details here.

  • Getting absolute path of a file running in remote machine

    Hi,
    I want to get the absolute path of a file that will be created in the remote server. Inside a directory XYZ in remote machine, the file will be created and the remote machine's address is xxx.xx.x.x. I have used the following snippet
    File f=new File(Filename);
    f.getAbsolutePath();
    Now, in the output am getting the absolute path of the file as d:/XYZ/Filename. Is there any way to get the output as xxx.xx.x.x/XYZ/FileName ? Can someone please suggest why the server details are not fetched and instead the directory name is fetched.
    I am running the program to get absolute path of a file in my remote machine. and for accessing that remote file from my machine, I use xxx.xx.x.x/XYZ/FileName.
    Thanks in advance.

    I'm going to take it a step further and guess at what the OP is going to say next.
    On host w.x.y.z there's a file /a/b/share/some_dir/file.txt.
    Host w.x.y.z is sharing the /a/b/share/ directory as SHARE.
    Client mounts \\w.x.y.z\SHARE as D:, so that he sees D:/some_dir/file.txt.
    OP now wants to know not just that D:/some_dir/file.txt is \\w.x.y.z\SHARE/some_dir/file.txt, but also wants to know that on w.x.y.z, SHARE corresponds to /a/b/share.
    @OP: If that's what you want, forget it. Part of the premise of file common drive/directory sharing protocols is that the client does not know or care and does not need to know or care what the absolute path is on the serving host. It's none of his business.
