Getting up to speed on FPGA

I have a PXI-7833R in a PXI-1042 chassis.  I am new to FPGA, and I want to get up to speed.  Can you help me with the following?
1. Are there any relating FPGA material that I can use?
2. I would like to play with my FPGA, but there is a production bit file in my FPGA.  I don't want to mess it up.  I want to
2a. make sure that the bit file that I have is identical to the production bit file of the fpga
2b. know if 2a is true, I can revert the FPGA back after I am done playing with it.
3. Any simple FPGA code out there that I can play with?
4. Any best practices for FPGA coding in LabVIEW?
5. Any exercise that I can follow with my equipment?  I want to program something simple and play with my equipment.
6. Any classess out there that are geared toward a FPGA in PXI?
Thanks!
Kudos and Accepted as Solution are welcome!

I have an answer to some of your questions, and I'll try to reply as best I can.
1 and 6) Search NI knowledge base. It's always a good place to start. Also, NI offers an FPGA class which I have taken and can say is definitely worht while. Whether you are using an FPGA card on PXI or using FPGA on cRIO, all the best practices generally remain the same. If you can code on one, you can code on the other. These best practices however do not generally line up with best LabVIEW practices, so make sure you have a fundamental understanding of LabVIEW first. You don't want to begin thinking that how you code FPGA is necessarily how you should code a PC app. You will see lots of flat sequence structures, miminal subVI use etc all to improve efficiency among other things.
2) I'm not sure what you mean by production bit file. If you have whatever bit file is on there, though, you can always revert back based on what bitfile you set the open FPGA reference function to use.
3) There is example FPGA code in the LabVIEW examples
4) Read some knowledgebase articles to get a general idea then come back with specific questions. In general the things I try to remember are any subVIs should be reentrant, and arrays are generally not used. Also, if you need to buffer data, use FIFOs not read/write controls. I see Read/write controls on this forum being used far too often for the collection of data. But if you do this, you have no buffering and you might as well use scan engine because your data acquisition rates are no limited by your RT processor and not the FPGA.
5) again, LabVIEW examples
Anyways, there you go.

  • How to get 802.11n speed for Apple TV?

I installed my first Apple TV yesterday. Great stuff!
My iTunes movie library is on a Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro. I have not yet used the AirPort Extreme 802.11n Enabler on this MacBook, since I just found out it exists. If I use it, can I utilize 802.11n sync speeds with the Apple TV? How?
My AirPort network uses only an "old" 802.11g AirPort Extreme base station, not the "new" AirPort Extreme base station with 802.11n.
I have three 802.11g AirPort Express base stations on my network, mainly for using AirTunes.
My iMac connects to my wireless network using 802.11g, and I don't think the 802.11n Enabler works with it.
My cable modem current connects to my Airport Extreme (802.11g) base station via Ethernet.
I understand I can get a new AirPort Extreme 802.11n base station to replace the 802.11g one, and that would let me use the higher 802.11n speed from the MacBook to the Apple TV. It would also allow (unless I misunderstand) all my 802.11g devices to access the network at the lower speeds they are capable of. Correct?
I also understand there is something called a "dual band network" that involves using both base station types in one large network, but I don't know what the advantage of doing that would be, compared with just replacing the old base station. Can someone fill me in on that?
And, is there any way to get 802.11n speeds from the MacBook Pro to the Apple TV without getting an 802.11n base station?
    Thanks in advance.

If I use it, can I utilize 802.11n sync speeds with the Apple TV? How?
And, is there any way to get 802.11n speeds from the MacBook Pro to the Apple TV without getting an 802.11n base station?
No. Unless you set up an adhoc network between your Mac and the Apple TV.
I understand I can get a new AirPort Extreme 802.11n base > station to replace the 802.11g one, and that would let me > use the higher 802.11n speed from the MacBook to the Apple > TV.
    Yes, it would.
It would also allow (unless I misunderstand) all my 802.11g devices to access the network at the lower speeds they are capable of. Correct?
If you set things up this way, then I believe you wont be able to use wideband mode on the AEBSn. Your AEBSn will be opperating in mixed mode and its 802.11n performance will be degraded. The best set up would be to keep your old router to service the G only devices, and have your new AEBSn service the N capable devices. This would allow you to take full advantage of the performance increase provided by 802.11n capable devices.

  • Not getting advertised internet speed

It's been about 2 weeks since this problem started happening and I can't fix it no matter what I do. I'm currently on the Blast Plus package which should give me 105 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up, but I'm getting no where near that anymore. I used to hit 110 Mbps down normally and I'd check it weekly since I use my internet a lot. I'm very OCD about it. Just recently I started noticing netflix start to freeze up and lag when this never happened before. I did a speedtest and my internet maxed out at 22 Mbps. Now why would this be? Nothing has changed in my account or computer. There's only one phone and one laptop on this WiFi servicw, and my main PC connected by ethernet which is what I did the test on. I go on facebook or youtube and they take forever to open and once open the pictures won't load. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

We have not ever gotten what we paid for.  we are suppose to get 105 download speed.  We are lucky if we get over 10 download (tested on different days and all different times of day) The problem started as soon as we upgraded to the faster speed about 2 years ago.  call comcast on numerous occassions and have to WAIT FOREVER. THey make you go through all the stuff on your end.  Then they schedule time. Someone comes out gets it to work for a while like a day or two. Then  you call again and its like they want to start all over with test at home then send someone.   Then eventually you get so fed up spending so much time that you give up and then a few months later try it again.   It wasn't until a few months ago that some tech realized we NEVER were supplied the right equipment to handle the upgraded speed.  Although comcast had no problem charging us for it all this time.  Well we still have problems.  Today my tests have gotten above 10 ONCE.  We turn off devises etc.  Son even uses ethernet connection 100%  and he has problem.  So sick of this.  The thought of going through the process of being put on hold being told to go through their trouble shoot thing to either have them say we are going to try things from here and so you wait and wait with limited and shortlived success-the process is exhuasting.   Looking into other providers.

  • How can I get rid of speed download without the uninstaller?

Having trouble downloading, and reading that speed download could be the problem, I trashed it. The trouble is, I trashed the uninstaller along with everything else. Is there anyway to get rid of speed download? Safari quits when I try to download something, like a widget.

  • Im getting slower Connection speeds

Im getting slower connection speeds then what i ordered i got the 15mps and i only get 10 ?

It looks like you're right at the edge of the 10Mbps service limit for your copper line, as your margins are low and the line speed is incorrect.
Do you have access to a NID? If so, can you plug your modem into your NID's test jack and pull up the new statistics it shows? The NID can often times be found outside on the side/rear of your home, near your electrical panel/meter or on a pole near the street (uncommon for the last one).

  • Neighbors all around me get faster DSL speed. Why can't I?

    Hello,
I have Verizon DSL at 1-3 Mbps.  I live in a house in which my neighbors are attached.  I had checked verizon help and they told me that they are eligible for 5-7 and in some cases, 7-10.  This makes no sense to me.  My neighbors to the left and right of me can get higher speeds and I can't?  The person on the help desk was not willing to help me and after the 60 minute conversation I ended it.  It is obvious to me that my neighbors are on a different line than I am.  What can I do to have my line re-wired so I can get the higher speeds.  This is very frustrating.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Right, but here's the deal. Transceiver Stats display the stats for the line between the modem all the way to the DSLAM on Verizon's end, and back, even though they can be skewed by inside wiring. If I can at least see them, I can tell you if Verizon's software can be proven wrong, and also get someone to take care of this for you. Verizon has several ways to determine what speed you have. The quickest one is the availability database which has been proven wrong countless amounts of times. Then there's some more technical aspects of it which network engineers and higher level support technicians are able to see. Then there's what the line tests Verizon can run shows, giving information on what equipment you're going through, circuit IDs, line capacities, and so on. There's also the engineering database which can be used in a theoretical stance to determine speed.
For the sake of things, if you're running a Westell modem: http://192.168.1.1/transtat.htm (older modems) OR http://192.168.1.1/htmlV/transtat.asp .
If you've got an ActionTec modem, visit http://192.168.1.1/ and log in with the common default username and password of admin/admin. Click on Status, and then click on DSL Status. For either modem, just copy and paste the contents of the page, and remove any Public/WAN IP address you see.

  • How do I get Ethernet Link Speed stuck at 10 Mbit/s to 100?

I've 100 Mps Internet service.  My iMac limits ethernet to 10 mps, although the specs say it should be capable of at least 100 mps.  A PC connected to the same Time Capsule gets 100 mps.  My network utility claims the link speed is only 10.  If I try to correct the speed manually, it claims the ethernet cord is not plugged in.  I'm using CAT 5e cord.  How can I fix this?
    iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo; 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3; OS X 10.8.1

Thanks!  I've switched the cords to no effect. I fear the Ethernet port (which I've never use before) must be bad.
Any idea on how I can fix this?

  • Paying Too much Bill and still not getting the High speed Internet that I am Supposed to

First month I got my bill it was acceptable over $150 because all the technician work and line-up and everything. So I have Verizon double play and Direct Tv together and in 2nd month I got $143.14 bill just for 3mbps internet and on the bill it says i added the service "Change in the Partial Month". First of all I didn't even added the service and it was supposed to be less than $100 dollar bill because the Direct Tv is $23.99 which is my Entertainment Package and the Double Play is $50.99, so the  total bill is going to be pretty much like $90-$100 with tax and everything. If the next month bill comes more than $100, then I am definitely cancelling  Verizon and switch to Optimum Cable. By the way I had Comcast triple play which was $100 for Tv, Internet & Phone for 2 yeas before I had Verzon and I used to get more than 20 mbps internet speed but in Verizon I am getting only 3mbps which is very unsatisfied.
Thank you for your time, Verizon

Rounding to the nearest dollar is $75.00, plus an additional $10-$12,
would not equal $143 per month.

pressed for a change in a particular service?  Check your online account

  • First Mac ever (former PC person).  What book would you recommend ("MacBook for Dummies" ?) for someone like me who wants to get up to speed quickly ?

I am looking for a book - (maybe something from the "Dummies" series) that will get me up to speed quickly.
I expect to use the MacBook for word processing, email and watching and downloading videos.
                            Bob

The essential book is Amazon.com: Macintosh Bible, The (8th Edition)
Wow, Macintosh Bible goes back to 2001 - not sure how "essential" the information is in 2012.  Happy for you to come back to me on that Kappy and justify your recommendation!
I recommend 'Mac OS X Lion - The Missing Manual' by David Pogue:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mac-OS-Lion-Missing-Manuals/dp/1449397492/ref=sr_1_1?ie= UTF8&qid=1328642593&sr=8-1
The books in the 'for Dummies' series are quite good too but the 'missing manual' book is more thorough and goes into greater depth.

  • Do you get 3g internet speed/service on an 8330?

I bought an 8330 on ebay that was hardly used...I like the phone a lot but the internet browser seemed slow and not very advanced and I noticed it doesn't display 3g on the screen.  I was eligible to upgrade and got the Bold 9650 and it displays 3g but I really don't notice the internet being any faster on it...so does the 8330 get 3g even though it doesn't display?
The 9650 is ok but not impressive.  I do like the theaded text feature in the 5.0 OS and the trackpad is easier to use, but the phone is heavier and the USB port is in an odd place on the lower right side.  It is much more convienent on the upper left side on the 8330 for use when charging at the same time.  I know the 9650 has a faster processor and 512mb and a 2gb sd card, but still i'm thinking my 8330 was just as good for what I need...

The 8330 is 3G capable. On devices previous to the 9650, 8530 and 9550 the symbol for 3G is different. It's displayed as EV. So when you see 1XEV that means you're getting full 2G and 3G service.
The speed of web browsing between the two devices is expected to be similar. However, on the Bold 9650 you now have WiFi - so if you connect via WiFi you should notice a little jump in your speeds.

  • HT3728 I can't get the full speed of my internet

My internet is fiber optics and it's 100 mbps and when I do a speed test I only get 30 mbps, while if I connect direct to the internet without using the airport I got the full speed, there is something wrong with my airport and I did the reset but nothing happend.

You can install v5 utility in Lion..
How to load 5.6 into later Lion & ML
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
Leave the package open on the desktop so you can see the file. AirportUtility56.pkg
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. If your Mac refuses to run the software, because it wasn’t downloaded from the Apple store, go to security in preferences and allow other software to work.. this is limitation of trade methinks. You can set back later if you like.
Now drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. in finder, open the new directory, drill down.. applications, utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall version 6 (now 6.3 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. although I have had no problems when doing so.
But your AE must be v5 or earlier for this to work.
Exactly what Airport do you own??
And I am not sure it will fix the issue.
