Global search functionality queries!!

Forum,
I am currently doing a project and I am confused about the following:
The application must have global name search functionality, which allows a user to enter a term in a search box. The results will show the number of matching information that match the request.
Has anyone some sample code to help me with this..I require some nice functionality here also that you might think would be appropriate.
Thanks

Hey folks, I need to make a program that can do something. Do you have sample code?
What exactly do you have problems with? You didn't even tell us what the data you're bound to search looks like and how it's stored.
I require some nice functionality here also that you
might think would be appropriate.?
You know, this forum is here to help you solve your Java problems, not to get you through your projects.

  • Adding Global Search function in Webhelp

I have been asked to add global search functionality to my
website. As far as i understand, the only way of doing this using
Webhelp is to use merged projects?
As i have 40 separate XPJ files (some very large), this
merged projects method didn't work very well. For a start you got
lost in the vast number of projects and bookmarks displayed in the
merged TOC. Instead, from a main menu, each guide opens up in the
same fixed window and just displays its owns TOC. Curently you can
only search in the selected guide.
Having looked at Peter Graingers site, ZoomSearch would seem
to work OK. Does anyone know of any other method i could use or
    free alternatives to ZooomSearch?
    Thanks

First, if you Google "refresh page" you'll have several
JavaScript options available to choose from.
Second, I can't show you my merged WebHelp, because it's
proprietary online Help provided with our product, but I used
Peter's method for a merged project of 42 projects, ~2.5K topics,
and mucho graphics. Unfortunately, in a WebHelp merged project, RH
provides an anemic, basic search only.
We had elected to place our projects within 14 major
categories in the TOC, so as to reduce the size of the TOC when the
help was opened. Each category links to a "navigation" page in the
parent project that provides a description of the category and all
first-level topics within each project in the category. This
category structure helps the user identify the major functional
areas, and helps the seven writers keep track of where their
    particular projects appear.
    GETTING STARTED
    + Release Notes
    + Installation
    + etc.
    TRADING
    + Program Trading
    + Fixed Income Trading
    + etc.
This proved serendipitous when we decided to use Zoom, since
we were able to classify the same RH project folders under
identical Zoom categories, allowing users to select a single
category from a dropdown menu if they want more tightly focused
    results.
Because our help is provided on a CD and is distributed on a
customer's server, we've had to implement Zoom search in Javascript
mode. Admittedly, the JavaScript mode in Zoom doesn't provide full
functionality either, but it's still better than RH (you can use
wild cards, special characters (underscore, colon, slash, etc.) to
    "join" words, etc.).
    Some Zoom issues:
Since RH ignores special Zoom tags in source files, such as
ZOOMSTOP/ZOOMRESTART, ZOOMKEYWORDS, etc., and over-writes them in
the output when generating/publishing topic modifications, we are
running the Zoom indexer against the source files and placing the
five Zoom files (search.html, zoom_pageinfo.js, etc.) in the output
folder. The Zoom 5.0.1005 build will automatically rename the path
from the source "/projects" to the output "/mergedProjects" if you
    select that option.
Currently, a bug in Zoom replaces any closing HTML tag (HREF,
SPAN, etc.) that appears before a period, comma, semicolon, or
colon with a space. So, you need to run a Find/Replace to eliminate
those extra leading spaces (in the zoom_pageinfo.js file). I use
FAR for this; you can create a .FarRun file with entries like this
to do them in batch. Note that the 90_zoompageinfo_docsql01.FAR
FarList was created to contain only the zoom_pageinfo.js file, and
the "OpenFarList" line only needs to appear once in the .FarRun
file. After I run the Zoom indexer against the project, I only have
to double click the .FarRun file to run the batch replace.
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • Queries regarding search functionality.

Hi All, We have to implement Search functionality for a custom webcenter portal.
Customer does not have SES product so we are trying to see how we can use search without SES.
I see in dev guide we have two options for search
    ■ Oracle Secure Enterprise Search (SES) adapter
    ■ Oracle WebCenter Portal live search adapters
We want to use second one 'Oracle WebCenter Portal live search adapters'.
Here are my doubts regarding this
    1. I believe it can search for UCM documents. Is there any way to specify that certain kind of documents should not appear in search. For example customer mainly using content presenter and sitestudio to contribute content. CDF files are pure xml files and we don't want them to appear in search.
    2. At designtime our pages are almost blank. They only have PageCustomizable and PanelCustomizable components. Sometime a content presenter task-flow. End user is contributing to pages at runtime. Actual content of page reside in UCM in form of CDF files. Now if user performs a search, it should search for pages with content and it should list down the page. Is it possible? I believe it should be the default behavior. Right?
    3. We have some links, discussion, wiki etc also, I believe 'live search adapter' will be able to search those as well.
    4. There is some data that we maintain in our custom tables. Is there any way we can customize search to look into those tables as well.
    Thanks
    Sanjeev.

  • In OS Yosemite the search function in Mail, Finder, Spotlight- does not work

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)
    2,6 GHz Intel Core i7
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB
    OS Yosemite,
    Finder versión 10.10.1
    Mail Versión 8.1 (1993)
In OS Yosemite the search function in Mail, Finder, Spotlight… does not work. Messages or documents with the search criteria are there and one could find them manually, but the search function fails to find them. Following advice from Apple Support (728965377):
    1. I applied an Apple protocol for adware removal (Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac); I had none, because I had formally utilized a similar protocol that I had found in Internet, actually an app that implemented automatically Apple's adware removal protocol.
    2. I rebuild the post boxes in Mail (Mail (Yosemite): Reconstruir buzones); It took a while but it functioned properly
    3. I re-install the System (OS X Yosemite: Reinstalar OS X); It took about 4 hours but there was no problem whatsoever with the installation.
Afterwards I searched for messages in Mail, and documents in Finder and Spotlight, without any difficulty. The search function in all of them was working properly. But the next time that I needed to search messages or documents, an hour later or so, the problem reappear and a couple of new issues occurred:
    1. in app RagTime 6.5.2 (Build 1821), www.ragtime.de, the menu bar disappears (it is invisible), when one performs certain operations, e. g., calculating a value with a formula, whether it is in a spreadsheet or some other component (text, drawing, etc.). After touching with the cursor the menu bar is visible again.
    2. after reading an e-mail in Mail or copying an address, this is seeing as a floating object in the finder and over every application. There is no logical way to get rid of the floating object and neither copying or deleting or cutting it. It is not a big issue but nonetheless bothersome.
    3. In Mail, messages with Flag or in VIP contacts cannot be seen in the appropriate folders, only in the Incoming mail folder, together with other messages. It seems to me, this issue is part of same search function problem.
    4. The preview function within Mail does not show the attached documents to a message, whether it is in the IN, OUT or Draft boxes.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages

  • Forms 10.1.2.0.2 - Global Search

    Good day everyone,
I've run into several situations with some larger forms where I have a custom procedure and I have no idea where to find the procedure in the form or attached libraries. Is there a way to do a global search in a form to search in every Data Block, Attached Library, Alert, Trigger, etc? Specifically if I have a trigger that uses a procedure, can I find where that procedure comes from?
I know when using JDeveloper, I can use CTRL + SHIFT + F to search all the classes in a project to look for a particular search request (such as all the instances of "criticalVariable" in the project). I'm looking for this functionality in Forms 10.1.2.0.2. Currently I go through every data block, attached library, etc to find what I need. This is both time consuming and highly annoying.

    Try from
    EDIt-> Find And Replace

  • Help needed: Search function for custom Repository Manager

    Hi there,
i'm writing my own Repository Manager for EP 6.0 SP2 PL4.
I've serious problems getting the search function running. I'm using the 'new', Netweaver-based API.
I think, there are some general questions to answer:
    - My Repository Manager exposes lots of custom
properties to the system. I create the properties
       for example using following code:
       IProperty newProp = new StringSingleValueProperty(
         PropertyName.getPropertyName(
                  "{}" + myAttName),
         myAttVal,                         PropertyFlags.constructFlags(
                  true, false, true, false)
Is there any convention for the propertie's name?
I think it has to be written in lowercase only?
Can I use ANY namespace I want instead of the
        empty default namespace? (For example:
    - After indexing my resources (of course, containing my
custom properties), the TREX-Monitoring screen for my
index shows all my custom properties in the 'Document
Properties' area, but all uppercase chars are escaped
       somewhat. Is this OK?
    - Trying to use the index above to search for particular
resources in my repository by my custom properties
fails all the time ('no docs found...'); searching for
any system property works fine. What's the reason?
    - How can I force the (Property-) search uses my
       custom namespace-manager's methods
       isQueryPropertyNameUnderstood() and
       getQueryBuilder()
to perform a 'pure' property search by the repository
manager? It seems that the TREX always handles the
queries by itself, because my methods are never called.
    Thanx for you help,
    Daniel

I created a new manager and copied the classes exactly from the "simple" example and I see similar behavior. Actually, when I do this, folders are recursively copied, but not files. Again, browsing and viewing of files work fine. Again, I am not seeing any unexpected exceptions.
The only thing that changed were the names and namespaces. Nothing else at all was changed.
This makes me think I am missing some configuration somewhere or there is something special about the example project that the wizards are not creating. The only difference I see in the project file is an additional nature (com.tssap.selena.cmf.PatternNature), but I am not sure that is relevant.
    Wow, I am really stumped.

  • The search function in mail has virtually stopped working

What's going on????  I can no longer find anything using the search function in Apple Mail Version 5.2 (running on OS 10.7.4).
If I put in the name of someone I have exchenged maybe 500 emails with, it only finds one or two, or maybe none.  The same with key words.  And I can suddenly no longer search for partial email addresses (like @bankofamerica.com).
I tried rebuilding some of my bigger mail boxes, and a) it took a LONG time and b) it didn't help.
I have not made any chenges in my software, and a week ago I seemed to be searching just fine.
Any idea what might have happened and how to fix it?
    Thank you!

  • Does this system even have a search function? Also, is there a way to not show account name?

Ugh, I just downloaded this yesterday, so I'm only really starting to try it out today and wow, did they want to copy off of microsoft or something with the search function? First they get rid of "by file name" for the search, and then search itself doesn't even work! Or at least, it doesn't show the files as it finds them.
The problem is, am I doing something wrong? Or is search just incredibly slow?
And my second question is, is there any way to get rid of your name in the top right corner? That is really creepy, you should not have to have your name there. Is there any way to hide it or should anyone just be able to tell who you are because you don't want to change your account name?

  • AD Global search doesn't return known entity

AD Global Search filter does this:
I type in: "report" and hit enter
    It returns this:
    Finance Reporting - User -
    ReportingGroup {guid} - Group -
but NOT this known group "AllApps Reporting Users"
typing "allapps report" DOES return the item as does "allapps"
    What gives?

    Hi Vivian,
Thanks for your help - it solved my issue. I'm a little dissapointed that the "answer" was really in the comments only...
Apparently (its not obvious) the filter behaves non-intuitively, but that you are able to do more complex queries using LDAP syntax:
THIS appears to return the results I WOULD HAVE EXPECTED from entering "Report" into the textbox with "Normal" selected
    press "convert to LDAP" option
    Change  (anr=report) to  (Name=*report*)
    click "Apply" button
I guess without full understanding of AD and LDAP I was not to understand the implications of "ANR=" and that its deliberately HYPER-EXCLUSIVE - doesn't make the unintuitive nature of the "filter" any easier for beginners
to realise that they are missing many "potential results"...
Still, from the description in here (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/243299/en-us) you would think that "anything containing REPORT would be returned" ... but apparently that's not how
    it works...
eg: using the "John Buck" example I would have thought that:
    "anr=report"
    would match:
    Soemthing Report Soemthing
    But it doesn't...

  • Search function Thunderbird

    I have a problem that e-mail disappear?
There are missing in the folders and not appears when i use CTRL+SHIFT+E.
However they show up when i use CTRL+K.
What can i do to move this message back to the folders and turn this function off....

As the global search is pulling up emails that may not exist, I would suggest you do the following to get the global search corrected.
Make hidden files and folders visible:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders
    In thunderbird
    * Help > troubleshooting Information
    * click on 'show folder' button
    * a new window opens showing profile folder
*''' Close Thunderbird now - this is important'''.
    * Look for and delete this file: '''global-messages-db.sqlite'''
    * Close window - top right X
    * Restart Thunderbird.
Then try running the search again to see if you get different results.

  • Search Function Limited

When I did a search on my Curve 8330, I was offered choices of where: Messages, Calendar, Address Book, MemoPad, etc. Then I could search for, say, a word entered in the Notes section of an address. With my Style 9670, I see no way to do this - only the names and company names. Am I missing something, or has 6.0 lost functionality from 5.0?
    Thanks,
    Pete

I finally figured it out. I use ShortcutMe [great app!], and it has a list of ShortcutMe Functions, which includes "Global Search". It has a reference to "Legacy" - meaning it's a holdover from, I presume, OS 5.0. Does exactly what I wanted.

  • IPhone 5s Voice memo to mp3. Now music on iPhone. Won't play from search function.

I record my band rehearsals using the voice memo on my iPhone 5s. Then I sync to iTunes and convert file to mp3. When i sync back to my iPhone it appears in my music. So far, so good. When I use the search function in music it finds the file but won't play from tapping. I must troll through all my music songs (currently 2227 of them) to find it and then play it. Is it something to do with it still being under the genre "voice memos" or what ?  Anybody help please.  Thanks

  • How do I use the new search function for ipod?

itunes 7.0 and ipod is up to date:
when i scroll through the music, i get the nifty little grey box with the letter in it, but how do i get to the search where i use the click wheel to input a query and search through all items in my ipod?

Unless your iPod is one of the recently announced upgraded 30GB or 80GB iPods, you don't have the search function. It was not added to existing devices in the recent update. It may or may not be added in some future software update but there's no official word on that.

  • Search function in Help not working in any application

The Search function is not working in any application's Help. Upon entering the terms I need help for I get a hang at "Searching..." but never any result. This problem started sometime in the last year or so. Prior to that the search function in Help worked fine. My network connectivity is excellent.
I recently reinstalled OS X 10.5 but I'm sure the problem existed before that and persisted after the reinstall.
The reinstall was due to upgrading to 10.7 and only then finding that I had lost needed functionality, but I don't think this has anything to do with the current problem. All other aspects of Help seem to be working fine
I don't find any reference to this problem anywhere so I'm hoping someone can help with my Help(!) problem. Thanks in advance.

Try running your Leopard install disk again, as well as the 10.5.8 combo updater. This might reinstall any 'missing bits'.
You can do this without deleting the hard drive, just install straight over your existing system, but close all applications and external devices first.
Or you could also do this via an Archive and Instal:

  • RH9 Webhelp Search function is not working properly

    Hi,
My organization is using RH9 for a Webhelp project.  My company and our client are restricted to using IE9 for the online help I have created for this project, and our OS environment is Windows 7.  When I generate using the Webhelp layout, with the TOC, Index and Search options chosen, my resulting browser window shows two frames.  Left for the Contents/Index/Search and right for the content.  In the left panel, there are three links at the top for Contents, Index and Search.  When I click on the Search link, the only thing I see is the alphabet A-Z (which are links to filter items beginning with these letters (much like the index link) and a list of what I would say is garbage.  For example, if I click on H, I see items like "half 1 2 3" or "held" or "honor # 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8", etc.  If I run my cursor down this list, I notice that maybe the word honor is a link.  If clicked it brings up one of my topic pages.  I can also click on the random numbers that appear, like clicking on 3 it brings up another topic page.  The search function does not allow me to type in a search criteria, since there is no search field as well.
Do you have any suggestions for this issue?  Is this a bug, or do I need to change settings somewhere within RH9?  The same thing is happening when using this help project that is running on our clients server.  Is there any suggestion you can give to try and make this work properly?

Rick,  Thanks for stepping in.    I assumed that was the reason why I was not receiving the search field, and that is fine for now.  We have discussed with our client the possibility of having two different help projects one for each, but that decision was kind of put on the back burner.
However, the other issue I am having is still there and I don't quite understand why.  Since I only have clickable A-Zs for the search, and it lists links much like the Index section, I'm still seeing lists of just numbers and characters (i.e., "# 1 2 3 4 5", or "%" or "& 1 2 3 4 5" sometimes all the way up to 18 or so).  And each of these characters or numbers are clickable links as well to either page that doesn't contain that number or to nothing.
Doing a bit more research, I have noticed that a lot of these links are being picked up by the PDF file we have as part of the project.  Our help project has a link to the documented version of the help in the form of a User Guide.pdf file.  So the search is listing items from that guide like the heading numbers 1.0, 1.0.1, etc.  Also each of these are clickable links that go nowhere.  But then there is still the numbers 1, 2, etc that go to pages that don't have this anywhere on the page.
Do you have any insight as to why these types of things are being listed under Search at all?  They make that selection look very messy and unorganized.  Not professional at all.  I have checked and tested the properties settings and can't seem to find what is causing this to happen.  Any idea would be most appreciated!!
