Gnome not saving my keyboard settings

Hi,
i've been using arch+gnome for about a year now, but since the last gnome-upgrade some weeks ago, my keyboard settings are overwritten every time I start gnome.
I can easily change them back using the gnome-keyboard-properties, but I have to do this after every reboot, the default en_us layout is always re-added.
Does this have something to do with wrong permissions to permanently change the layout? I just created a new user, and he too can't change his keyboard settings permanently.
I'm using a xorg.conf generated by nvidia-xconfig, but it only contains
*snip*
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Keyboard0"
Driver "evdev"
EndSection
*snip*
I'm not using [testing], just kernel 2.6.32. xorg-server 1.7.3.901-1, nvidia-beta 195.22-4
Any help would be gladly appreciated
*edit*:
I just noticed the layout is set correctly using startx, skipping gdm, so it's probably gdm related

You can choose your keyboard layout in the login manager GDM in the footer after selecting your user. The setting is kept for the next logins.

    Hi all,
    Been a Linux user for 4 years and decided to install Arch. Must say, I'm very impressed!
    But a few things have got me puzzled and the main one is that Gnome doesn't seen to be remembering my settings nor do I have the "shutdown" menu under "System".
    Here is my /etc/inittab:

    I followed the guide on the Arch wiki for auto login and automatic X and it should be saving my GNOME settings but it doesn't.
    Any help much appreciated.

    The shutdown issue might be because you're using `startx` instead of `exec startx`, ck-list-sessions will probably show that you aren't authorized as a local user right now.
    The GNOME settings issue could be because you ran stuff with sudo and root owns config files (so gnome can't write to them). You can can fix that with a quick `chown -R`, but there are other reasons it could be happening so imo you are better off just removing or moving the current .gnome2 and .gconf dirs and seeing if the problem persists with a fresh start.

  • Is there a fix for SL not saving Logic Pro settings?

    Hi all, I am stuck in SL but don't mind that if there is a way to fix this problem of settings not being saved. I had the problem first in Mail,it refused to save my ISP Password and was fixed by a software update mentioned on this forum. Does anyone know if such an update for Pro apps was ever available? And is it still there for downloading?

    I commend your perserverance but 5.1 is newer than 7, that is what is posted in the above screen shot. Here are some things left over from attempting to install #7
    I know it seems strange, but it seems to be true,Jobs is turning in his grave. The screen shot in my previous post shows it even better,hard to read[too small] but it was a fix for just these things. Click on that image in post above and it will appear in a larger window,these small 2 ones will as well. It isn't even possible to trash that pref[plist] it restores its' self instantly,no time to install #7,and I trust developed to avoid that being done. The new Apple boss man no like Pro apps,only want to sell new hardware.

  • Sent items not saved -- delete accounts/settings/preferences

    I have mail accounts with AOL and Mobile Me. I understand that to save sent items on the server, I must use the setting "Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For."
    For both AOL and Mobile Me accounts, I successfully set up the sent items folders. Under the paper airplane icon, both are reporting "Contents stored on server. Namer on server: Sent."
    However, only the Mobile Me account is functioning properly. If I uncheck the mail preference "store sent messages on the server" for my AOL acconts, then Mail will store sent items locally in Mail.app, but this is not what i want.
    It is possible this is a problem with AOL. I have two AOL accounts, and they behave a little differently, so I think I have an issue with my settings or preferences. I'd like to know how to completely remove all mail accounts/setting/preferences from Mail.app. All my accounts are IMAP accounts, so I don't need to save anything that is stored locally.
    I thought I had removed all accounts/settings/preferences related to mail.app, but when I go to add an account, my AOL account info is already populated in the first screen, so I don't think I deleted everything.
    Thanks for any help with deleting preferences/settings related to mail.app.

  • Logic Express 9 not saving transport bar settings

    I changed my transport settings by adding buttings and clicked the 'save as default' button, but the the settings do not stay when I quit logic and reopen the project file.

    Well,
    What I have to say is that the Roland's support helped me to find an answer. We tested the controller with another computer and everything was fine. The main problem was about software. When I formatted my computer almost everything was solved. The only problem that still remain is the midi oscillations in MIDI OUT display when ACT is lit. Now I can control LOGIC, and there is no strange advise when I start it. About the detail of the oscillations, maybe is a problem of configuration in LOGIC, maybe is a problem of hardware in my computer, I still don't know.
    I wrote this because if anyone in the world is in the same situation, who knows, these words could help in any way.

  • Camera not saving manual mode settings.

    As the title says, everytime I choose a scene mode and go back to manual mode the settings gets reset. (i.e. focus mode, ISO, metering mode)
    It is annoying to set it everytime. Why can't the app remember my settings.

    As far as I know this is how the phone is intended to work. Manual mode is intended to be used for a specific photo, and the settings is normally not preferred in other situations.

  • Leopard changes keyboard settings

    I have a sproblem with leopard not saving my keyboard settings. I have a MBP with a US keyboard layout but i use often an external italian keyboard. therefore i need to have both keyboard layouts under the imput source in the menu bar. But then often when i logout and login again the settings are gone and two different italian layouts are there instead. i always have to go back to system preferences and drop one italian keyboard and pick the US one

    I had this issue until I used a free app that allows much more control over the default apps and which extensions open which app's, I still really haven't found where you get access to it in a global setup format, going to Info and selecting what the file uses just would take forever. Go here -> http://www.rubicode.com/Software/RCDefaultApp/
    its a system preference plug in (you simply drop it on the the system preference box when the app is open) and it will allow you to adjust what opens for internet, what opens for a .txt or a .text or a .Idontcare. etc etc. Very cool app that helps you see what you managed to get your settings set to all in one area. Hope that helps. Also with all the weirdness going on with Leopard and its new ACL's, have you ran a verify/repair disk permissions, as the settings that are adjusted could be unwritable and thus why your not getting the results you want. Hope that helps.

  • Settings or preferences not saved in 11.0.10

    Adobe reader XI 11.0.10.
    the checkbox "restore last view settings when reopening documents" is unchecked in the settings > documents.
    If check it, to get teh reader opened the next time with the same options (without tools and signing...) and escpacially on the same monitor, this checking is not saved in the settings. The next time I open the settings, the setting is unchecked again.
    For a good workflow it is important, that the PDFs do not open on the first monitor (of three)
    Is there a problem to fix this or is it a bug?
    Is it an option to install version 10.1.4. instead?
    postscript: it seems that no setting change at all is saved.
    Best regards
    Thomas, Win8.1-64
    also adobe CS6-EN installed.

    Hi Thomas,
    I am unable to replicate this behavior at my end with reader 11.0.10.
    Please try repairing Reader from the 'Help' menu and check.

  • Double-Click Setting not saved

    Help! On my brand-new MBP 13" the double-click speed is not saved with "Keyboard & Mouse" preferences.
    Everytime I log in the double-click speed rate is set to "slow" and as a result many mouse-clicks are considered as "double" without intended to be. After correcting the setting everything works fine ... until the next log-out / log-in.
    I already trashed the preference file without success.
    Any suggestions? This behaviour is really annoying ...

  • Int'l keyboard settings not saved during reboot

    I have a G5 tower that I updated to Leopard. Generally, everything seems fine but there is one thing that is irritating:
    I have US English set as my main keyboard, but I often switch to Japanese and Korean to insert a few characters. So, in my keyboard set up I have US English, Japanese, Korean and the the Character Palette.
    After the Leopard update, whenever I have to reboot the system these settings are not saved and I have to go back in and add the various keyboard set ups. I want US English as the main keyboard, but after a reboot Japanese is the default.
    Note: I bought the system in Japan a few years ago when I was based there.
    Thank you for any advice/help.

    It fixed itself somehow

  • [solved] firefox user settings not saving

    I am a linux noob. So the answer to this is probably very obvious, but I haven't found it through googling, searching these forums or the arch wiki. I am having the same problem with most of my applications actually. The problem is that my firefox personal settings are not saving. When I reboot all of the addons are gone, the tabs are back on top, and everything is reset as if this were the first time I've run the program. I'm having a similar problem with lxpanel. I suspect it has something to do with post-installation home directory config files and not knowing what to do for each program. The only setup I've done for firefox is # yaourt -S firefox-esr. A whereis firefox-esr yields only /usr/bin/firefox-esr. Just the executable file itself I guess.
    Although the arch wiki firefox page doesn't seem to specifically mention losing all settings there is something about setting a download location that caught my eye: XDG directories:
    It says to create ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs and add:
    XDG_DESKTOP_DIR="/home/<user>/"
    XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR="/home/<user>/<dir>"
    XDG_TEMPLATES_DIR="/home/<user>/<dir>"
    XDG_PUBLICSHARE_DIR="/home/<user>/<dir>"
    XDG_DOCUMENTS_DIR="/home/<user>/<dir>"
    XDG_MUSIC_DIR="/home/<user>/<dir>"
    XDG_PICTURES_DIR="/home/<user>/<dir>"
    XDG_VIDEOS_DIR="/home/<user>/<dir>"
    I'm not sure if this has something to do with the temporary nature of my personal firefox settings, but it seems like a move in the right direction. I get that tip of the iceberg feeling though. I've been meaning to look up all of that freedesktop.org stuff including .desktop and .directory files and standard locations. I assume that this is part of that and not only for firefox specifically.
    If anyone could point me in the right direction in terms of how to set up the user directories and files necessary for saving firefox settings I would be very grateful. Or maybe I installed the program wrong?
    I am not using a desktop environmnt. Just (for the moment) pekwm, lxpanel, and idesk. Presumably that's part of the problem. That going modular is much more difficult for a Linux noob. If I were using kde or gnome I'm guessing a lot of this post-installation application setup would be done for me automatically.
    edit: I just found this information on the location of the firefox profile in linux.  It says that profile folders are located in "~/.mozilla/firefox/<profile folder>". At first I thought I didn't have this folder, but I do. So I'm not sure why the settings and addons are not saving.

    For next time: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Permissions
    It might be a better idea to change permissions with "chown" : https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Permissions#chown

  • Microsoft Outlook 2010 The delegates settings were not saved correctly. Cannot activate Send-on-behalf-of list. You do not have sufficient permission to perform this operation on this object.

    I am trying to assign delegation to a user and I receive the following message.
    The delegates settings were not saved correctly.  Cannot activate Send-on-behalf-of list.  You do not have sufficient permission to perform this operation on this object.
    We are using 2010 for the server and client.  There are only specific mailboxes that this is happening for after being migrated from Lotus Notes.  The user can use their mailfile fine however it is just the delegation that appears corrupted somehow.
    I'm not sure how to fix this.  I have checked the access through the security tab in ad and that looks fine.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    I did some more digging and I solved it.
    This would be the solution:
    In Active Directory Users and Computers
    -Click on VIEW
    -Click on ADVANCE FEATURES  (this is important otherwise you won't see
    the complete list in the next steps)
    -Click on the USERS container
    -Find the problem user's account
    -Right mouse the account and click on PROPERTIES
    -Click on the SECURITY tab
    -In the top box, click on the SELF account
    -In the bottom portion of the screen make sure the READ PERSONAL
    INFORMATION  & WRITE PERSONAL INFORMATION  should both be checked for
    ALLOW
    If you can compare the permissions for 'SELF' with another user you probably should set them accordingly to be safe. I noticed that for the user where setting delegates (SOB) did
    not work, more than those 2 permissions were missing.
    Good luck!

  • Error while configuring GCM: The push settings were not saved. Error 400

    Hi,
    While configuring push settings for google cloud messaging in azure mobile services, i entered the server key received from google developer console.
    When i try to save the entry, i get the message The push settings were not saved <mobile-serversices-site>: Error 400
    I have regenerated the key multiple times but of no use.
    Am I missing something? I am a paid subscriber of Azure
    Thanks, Laks.

    Sorry for the late reply. Sometimes there are transient errors in the portal that affect whether or not the settings can be saved. Also, you should make sure that you have an associated notification hub (which will show up in your push settings). If there
    is no associated hub, you will always get errors when trying to configure.

  • Outlook error "The Delegate settings were not saved correctly. cannot activate send-on-behalf-of list. The operation failed"

    Hi,
    Re: "The Delegate settings were not saved correctly. cannot activate send-on-behalf-of list.  The operation failed"
    I have a client who is getting the above error when attempting to change delegate permissions in Outlook 2010.
    She is also getting this error when she tries to remove a delegate.
    I have tried recreating her mail profile.
    I have also tried kb2593557. The auto fix didn't work at all and the registry fix only removes the error message and not the problem. This client would like to be able to edit her delegate permissions.
    She is on Exchange 2010
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

    The article you provided is not related to the error message that the user is getting it.
    Can you please provide better solution? I know this answer and this post is old but I am having same issue.
    The error message is only (The Delegates settings were not saved correctly. cannot activate send-on-behalf-of list. The operation failed) I was not able to attach screen shot.
