Google rarely contacts Gmail users via email, but we are making an exception to let you know that we've reached a settlement in a lawsuit regarding Google Buzz (Google Buzz), a service we launched within Gmail in February of this year.
Shortly after its launch, we heard from a number of people who were concerned about privacy. In addition, we were sued by a group of Buzz users and recently reached a settlement in this case.
The settlement acknowledges that we quickly changed the service to address users' concerns. In addition, Google has committed $8.5 million to an independent fund, most of which will support organizations promoting privacy education and policy on the web. We will also do more to educate people about privacy controls specific to Buzz. The more people know about privacy online, the better their online experience will be.
Just to be clear, this is not a settlement in which people who use Gmail can file to receive compensation. Everyone in the U.S. who uses Gmail is included in the settlement, unless you personally decide to opt out before December 6, 2010. The Court will consider final approval of the agreement on January 31, 2011. This email is a summary of the settlement, and more detailed information and instructions approved by the court, including instructions about how to opt out, object, or comment, are available at Google Buzz User Privacy Litigation Class Action Settlement Website.
This mandatory announcement was sent to all Gmail users in the United States as part of a legal settlement and was authorized by the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.

I just talked to a few co-workers and customers on other carriers that have received it also, guess it was a legit update to customer about the situation, glad to hear that they thought that their users might want to be updated.....  Now maybe we can receive information on update in the same fashion.

    Saw that this morning.
    IMHO the only one who wins are the lawyers.
    I don't qualify for the 50% off a GB mp3 player (that isn't much capacity any more) and it isn't worth my time to save 20% off a Creative item purchased via their online store (that would just about bring the prices down to the Amazon level.)
    This really is only the difference between how one calculates hard disk drive space (024 vs 000.) Anyone who's used a computer (or monitor) for any length of time at all is familiar with the argument. Their marketing should've caught this....

    I am seeing in the Mac news that a judge has reached a settlement in the Apple iPOD Battery class action lawsuit.
    I have an iPOD Mini that I purchased the day they were first announced that is having the typical battery defect issues. The thing is, I do not see the Mini mentioned in the list of iPOD models in the suit.
    Thanks in advance for input from an Apple rep or anyone else who may have more details.

    Seems to me that all the iPODs made during this period suffered from the same battery issues, so it is odd that Apple has not offered to fix the Mini battery defect in a similar way.
    Are they waiting to be forced to do it?

  • How do I submit a claim on the Class Action Apple settled for the iPhone with the water damage indicator red

    I stood in line the first day the original iPhone came out to purchase one.  The next day I purchased my second iPhone for my daughter and before long we had 4 iPhones in the house.  We still to this day have 4 iPhones.  Over the years several of my iPhones stopped working, I had paid extra to have the support contract on them only to find the local Apple store could care less.  They condemed my iPhones as being water damaged even though I was told the phones did not get dunked in water. 
    Today I learned Apple settled a Class Action in regards to the iPhones with warrenty where the liquid sensor was red and Apple refused to fix the problem.  In researching this I discovered reading the judges order in the case that Apple is supposed to have a 1-800 number setup and a website setup for people who had the problem.  I searched the web but could not find the website or the phone number.  It appears as if Apple is going to e-mail all people who took their iPhones in for repair and were refused yet I have not recieved an e-mail from Apple. 
    I guess the question I have is should I assume since I have had no e-mail from Apple that I will not get one and I will not be included as those getting payment.  Should just take my iPhones with the red liquid sensor to small claims court or should I attempt to contact the judge in the case and ask him how I can have three iPhones that qualify yet have not heard anything from Apple?  I still have the iPhones that Apple refused to repair.

    I don't think the settlement has been approved by the courts yet. Apple agreed to pay, but I don't believe the terms of how everything will go down has been officiated yet. When it is, the documents written up about it stipulate they've got to place a notice in USA today and Macworld with the web address for claims as well as a toll-free number.   • HP LASERJET CP1525nw print error when printing online Gmail emails with Google Chrome

    HP LASERJET CP1525nw print error when printing online Gmail emails with Google Chrome. Extra large font sizes and weird formatting issues only when printing emails from Gmail within Chrome. No problems when printing the same email from Gmail+Internet Exolorer or Thunderbird. Using the IE Tab extension in Chrome prints the email correctly but the style of Gmail's message window is completely weird ie: formatting bar is spread out vertically instead of horizontally. I believe it is clear that this is an application specific issue between the HP LASERJET CP1525nw printer and Google Chrome + Gmail. This printing scenario does not occur when printing anything else or when printing via another printer. I would appreciate receiving any suggestions to solve this issue.
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    Browser: Google Chrome 15
    HP Print driver: HP Universal Print Driver for Windows PCL6 v5.4.0
    Printer is connected by WiFi to 4 computers

    I assume that there are legal restrictions on the way in which iTunes can get artwork automatically from any source apart from the iTunes Store (which is what the right-click > Get Album Artwork function uses).  For example, even though the Gracenote service that iTunes uses to match CDs and retrieve metadata (artist, album, track titles, etc.) also has artwork functions, iTunes does not make use of these.
    For manual addition of artwork, there are three cases where the image you select may not be correctly embedded in your media files:
    your media are in a format that doesn't accommodate embedded artwork - typically WAV files.  To embed artwork you'll need to convert to another format - Apple Lossless or AIFF if you want to preserve lossless quality, AAC or MP3 otherwise.
    your media files are read only - to fix this, use Windows Explorer to find the folder that contains your files, right-click and select Properties.  On the General tab there's a check box labeled "Read-only" - if this is checked, or is grey (sometimes blue), click the box so that the flag is unchecked and the box is white.  Click OK, and then OK again when the "Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files" option selected.  Now try adding the artwork again.
    Windows permissions issues are preventing iTunes from updating your media files (there's some anecdotal evidence of a change in this behavior in iTunes 12).  See turingtest2's notes on Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows for advice on fixing this, then try adding the artwork again.

    In Mail Preferences/Accounts/each GMail account, set up the SMTP Outgoing Server for each account separately, going into SMTP name/edit/Advanced and specify the Username of each account.  The Outgoing servers must be two different servers, authenticated by the Username and Password of each.
    Otherwise, the GMail SMTP server will change the from address to that of the account where the SMTP server was setup.

    Hopefully you didn't do a complete uninstall of the previous version...
    First, you may want to make a backup of your profile folder. It contains not only your current bookmark list, but a folder of backups. But these are not saved forever.   • When getting email from google mail, I am  missing many emails which I can see on my desk top. I get the last 7 days of emails, then I miss two months of emails, then I get month 4-6. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening.

    When I try to view my google email on my iphoine 4s i get the most recent emails and the very old emails, but the ones inbetween are missing. Is there a fix.

    yes all emails are in the web based gmail. I have not deleted the account. I forgot to mention that it has been working on my iphone for over 2 years quite well and while I was giving access to the same gmail account to my wifes new iphone when this happend. It changed both the emails on my existing phone and my wifes new phone.

    We have Verizon for email and phone service.   I started a Google email account for my son's lacrosse team and linked it to my blackberry.  Someone else is handing the correspondence now. I went on to gmail to figure out how to un-link it to my blackberry and it does not look like it is linked anymore but I keep receiving the emails.  I hid the "globe" but now the emails just go in to my verizon "globe."  I hope I'm making sense...it's difficult to explain. 

    Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content & settings

  • Why does my google email address appear on emails I send from a different address on my iPad?

    I have a number if email accounts on my iPad 2. Recently I have noticed that whichever account I send an email from if is received with my google email address so I get all responses to that address which isn't what I want! The google account is not set as my default account so I do not understand why this is happening. It is only a recent thing as I have previously been able to send emails from my default account and have that put in the sender line without any problem. At the moment the software is changing the sender address between me sending it (I have checked the from field in the email and it is always the address I want it to go from) and it actually being received by the recipient.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

    Look through the email account that is your default for sending. Make sure that you have set the correct outgoing mail server.

  • Blackberry Curve 9310 won't reconfigure my Google email

    I accidently pressed something on my Blackberry Curve 9310 and it caused all my phone calls and Google emails to run together for awhile. Well,I finally fixed that,but now I can't send any pictures from my phone to my Google email without me getting a message that I'm being redirected to the Setup Wizard because messaging isn't configured. I then get to Setup,press email accounts,and I'm stuck.....nothing happens. My phone won't do anything. I can read my emails,but cannot send anything to my email,and I like to send my pictures from my phone to my Google account to edit them before posting them online anywhere. I have tried the Service Book thing,but nothing works there either. Please help...this is very frustrating!!!

    1- Register your Handheld .
    KB00510 : How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
     Wait till a Registration messages comes in your message box.
    2- Delete and Resend your Service Book
    KB05000 : Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
    KB02830 : Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
     ( Wait till a Registration Message comes in your message box for each email that you have configured on your device )
    3- Then perform a battery pull restart like this while the device is powered On remove your battery wait for a min. then reinsert it back
    try it and let see if it helps this time .
