Google Spreadsheet Data Connection

Hi all,
I have been playing with the Add-On Google Spreadsheet Data Connection and I am not able to publish my Xcelsius design model.
I get the same error that Natasha mentions in her blog (http://www.natashascorner.com/2009/04/24/connecting-xcelsius-to-google-spreadsheets/) when trying to publish it.
Has anyone be able to publish an Xcelsius model where data is obtained from a Google Spreadhsheet?
Many thanks in advance. Regards,
  Imanol

Hi,
What I meant is that I am able to see the data if preview the Xcelsius dashboard.
If I export it to Flash or Power Point I get an error.
Anyone faced the same issue?
Many thanks in advance. Regards,
   Imanol

  • Pulling data from Google Spreadsheet?

Has anyone had any luck pulling data into extendscript from a google spreadsheet?  I realize I have to use bridge to make the connection, but I'm wondering about how to actually pull the data.

If you could share with a http and not a https service - you could set up your own site and save the document there
You should be able to figure out from this script - http://rorohiko.blogspot.co.il/2013/01/geturlsjsx.html - how to get the info from the web in to idesign.
You just need the getURLs function in the script and not the script label part of the script.

  • Connecting to Google Spreadsheets from Xcelsius

Is there a way to connect to a Google Spreadsheet as the data source from Xcelsius? One [blogpost|http://www.unchartedblog.com/2009/04/24/connecting-xcelsius-to-google-spreadsheets/] describes how to make the connection using the Google Spreadsheet Connector in Xcelsius Web 2.0 components add-on, but it requires the Google Spreadsheet to be published and publicaly accessible. Which we can't do due to security concerns.
    Any thoughts?

    Hello,
I think I know how you can achieve exactly what you want. In our organisation I have integrated Google Spreadsheets with BO Dashboards in a neat and hassle free way. We can even schedule the data extraction from Google Spreadsheets to SAP BO and can also fetch data from other Google apps such as Google Calendar into SAP BO. The best part is it's free, no third party software/ licensing involved (other than Microsoft, of course).
I'll be publishing a document on this on SCN soon (hopefully within this week) and shall paste the link to the doc here when it's ready.

  • Dynamic AE Renders with Google Spreadsheets Docs - Seeking Beta Testers

    Happy New Year Everyone!
I'm positing this message in an effort to recruit beta testers for a new AE plugin that allows users to convert text layers, footage layers, and solid layers into dynamic audio / visual elements driven by external data at render time.
With this plugin users connect comp layers to data within a Google Spreadsheet document (or tab-delimited file) that is “fed” into that layer during a batch render. The plugin automatically positions, scales, and fits dynamic sized text strings and images.  If you produce any kind of video template, you can benefit from it because swapping out sources, texts, etc. is extremely easy simply by modifying spreadsheet data. Essentially, you can output batches of unique renders based on the same AEP file using this plugin: think lower-thirds, bumpers, slideshows, presentations, etc.
I made a screencast showing how the plugin works:
I would be grateful to any of you who would like participate in the product's beta phase, and will offer participants free upgrades after it is released to the general public.
If you have any interest, please reply here, or send me a private message via the forum.
Thank you for your time and consideration!
    Best,
    Arie

Just wanted to update this thread to point folks to the release version of this plugin.  You can now enjoy its benefits by downloading it at aescripts.com.
Templater now has extensive written documentation to familiarize yourself with general concepts for working with it and how-to instructions for accomplishing specific tasks.
Thanks again for all you beta testers out there!  Your time, suggestions, and help have been invaluable.

  • How to configure optimal data connections to allow excel to retrieve multiple data sets form a single data source

    Hi all,
I would like to have a data connection file used by excel to extract data form a SQL Server DB (so that change in location of the DB needs only a change to the  single data connection file). The excel file will retrieve data from only a single database,
but there are multiple queries (30+) stored on SQL server that are used - each SQL server views' data is returned to a pivot table in an excel worksheet, which has an associated chart with various slicers on the main dashboard worksheet.
Do I need a seperate data conenction file for each SQL server query being retrieved, or can a single connection file be created as all data comes from a single database?
(all my attempts and research on the net have led me to believe that a seperate file is needed for each view, but this seems unnecessary)

Hi, im learning my way with this, so apologies if I am providing too much or too little info.
There are 8 source files which are very loosely related in that they capture infromation regarding what has happened within a metro railway over a day. However there are only a few relationships between the contents of tehse files.
These tables are imported into SQL Server using SSIS where I have developed a number of views that query these 8 source tables to generate a number of metrics to provide insight into the service provided to the passengers. Some examples of metrics are: Number
of passengers in transit at any given time, time taken to travel between adjacent stations, how much power was used during the day, what distance did the trains travel during the day, etc. Some views provide only a handful of rows, some provide 1M plus. There
are now approx 40 seperate views created.
I have then used a spreadsheet with a worksheet associated with each SQL server view. Each worksheet is set up as a pivot table, which allows the related chart on the main dashboard worksheet to use standard excel capability to slice and present the data
    in different ways.
At the moment if the server on which teh database is stored moves, I have had to recreate the spreadsheet from scratch as I dont know how to change the connection information in any other way. Ideally I would like to have connection info in a single place
to reduce ongoing maintenance, particularly as I would like to place the spreadsheet on a SharePoint server to distribute it to other users.
    Thanks

  • Restoring a deleted column in Excel from a SharePoint Data Connection view

I used the "Export to Spreadsheet" option for a SharePoint document library to create my working report.  I created a special view for this as I did not want all of the columns in my export.  I build my report on a seperate tab in Excel
    around this exported data and it has been working great.  I recently added a new column to the view on SharePoint but it does not show up when I refresh my data.  I tried manually adding the column, evening ensuring it was in the same orderl;
still no luck.  The Connection file does not exist so I cannot edit the owssvr.iqy.  All I have is the connection string and command text.  I created a new workbook to see if the command string changed because of the new column but it did not.
I don't want to rebuild my report from scratch just because I added a new column, but it appears that may be the only option I have unless someone can answer my question.
Question: How can I get a new column from a view added to an existing data connection query?

    Hi,
First, make sure you have added the new column into the view as well as the list.
Second, try to use "MSQuery" feature in Excel to check the issue.
For more information about MSQuery, please refer to the following link:

    Hello Challen Fu
I would be so grateful if you could please help me out
I have been trying to find a solution to the same error message
In my case, the power pivot reports were working before on a regular team  site , but then two things changed:
    a)  I  created a toplevel site using the BI Center template. Now I am using a Business Intelligence template , created a power pivot gallery library and uploaded a few powerpivot reports
    b)  On the  backend, the database instance was upgrated to SQL Server 2012
Front end Server VDSP01  remains  SQL Server 2008 R 2 where Sharepoint 2010  was installed as a FARM
Now, the reports will display in sharepoing however they will not refresh. the error message i get is the same.
     Scenario recap:
    a- Server VDSP01  uses SQL Server 2008 R 2 where Sharepoint 2010  was installed as a FARM
b- On the back end,  the database instance name was replaced with SQL 2012 Server:
               from SQL Server 2008 R 2 (instance DBDEV-COTS\COTS)
               to     SQL Server 2012 ( instance VTSQL01\COTS)
    c-  I was told that:
         From VDSP01, they ran
CliConfg.exe   to create SQL Server Alias :
           where    BEFORE: vdsharepoint -->  DBDEV-COTS\COTS
                and  AFTER    : vdsharepoint -->  VTSQL01\COTS

  • How to execute the Code-Behind of .aspx linked using XML Data Connection

I have a dashboard with a live XML Data Connection tied to a Default.aspx file.  That .aspx file has a Default.aspx.vb code-behind file tied to it with some logic in the Page_Load sub routine.  If i open the .aspx on my own in the browser, the code-behind executes properly.
However, when I tie the .aspx to my dashboard and launch it I know for a fact the .aspx is being called (i have a placeholder on the dashboard to let me know if it executed or not) but its code-behind file is not.  I can't seem to find a solution through Google, would anyone be able to lead me in the right direction with this?  My code is as follows:
    Default.aspx
    <%@ Page Language="vb" aspcompat="true" Debug="true" validaterequest="false" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeBehind="Default.aspx.vb" Inherits="scheduleAppointment._Default" %>
    <%
'tester to see that script executes, this puts "ScriptExecuted" on a label on my dashboard
        Dim sXML As String
        sXML = "<data><variable name=" + Chr(34) + "Range_0" + Chr(34)
                      + "><row><column>ScriptExecuted</column></row></variable></data>"
        Response.Write(sXML)
    %>
    Default.aspx.vb
    Imports Microsoft.Office.Interop
    Partial Public Class _Default
        Inherits System.Web.UI.Page
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
(I have code here creating a Microsoft Outlook appointment and saving/scheduling it. This is not being
executed when running the dashboard itself, but I know the code works if I run the .aspx on my own
                 in Internet Explorer browser)
        End Sub
    End Class

Easy fix, apparently code-behind doesn't execute in Preview mode.  Exported to .swf and ran in the Internet Explorer browser and it worked.

  • Using Crystal Report Data Connection in Xcelcius 2008

The documentation does not explain how data to populate row, column and details is passed to SWF.
Can some-one please point how CR Data Connection when created in Xcelcius 2008 is used in Crystal Report Design time ? Is it through Flash variables? Basically more details are needed for "when setup properly" clause. How to map Crystal Reports Fields to Xcelcius Definitions.
    Thanks

    From Doc:
"With the release of Crystal Reports 2008, it is now possible to embed an Xcelsius-generated SWF file into a Crystal Report and have the SWF consume data from that report. When set up properly, refreshing the data in your Crystal Report will update the embedded SWF.
To configure your Xcelsius SWF to consume data from its Crystal Rport source data, you must open the Data Manager in Xcelsius and add a new Crystal Report Data Consumer connection. After adding the connection, bind the following ranges to your spreadsheet:  Row Headers, Column Headers, Data"
"Using Crystal Reports 2008, embed the SWF file into the Crystal Report source data file. When designing your Crystal Report, you will determine what fields/data populate the Row Headers, Comumn Headers, and Data ranges that were designated in your Xcelsius SWF. When set up properly, refereshing your Crystal Report will also refresh the data being sent to and consumed by the embedded SWF. See"

  • Data Connection to MS-SQL using Windows Auth from untrusted machine

We have an Excel Spreadsheet that uses a Data Connection to a MS-SQL database.  The database server is joined to our domain, and Windows Authentication is enabled.
Here is a sample of the connection string (with revealing info obfuscated):
    Description=DataConnection;DRIVER=SQL Server;SERVER=10.x.y.z;UID=domain_user;Trusted_Connection=Yes;APP=Microsoft Office 2010;DATABASE=DatabaseName
And the Authentication Settings are set to "Windows Authentication"
This works perfectly fine from a domain-joined / trusted machine.  It doesn't even ask for credentials; it just works flawlessly when I hit Refresh.
It will work from a non-domain / un-trusted workstation, if I use SQL Authentication.  But we are trying to move away from that.
Likewise, it will from a non-domain machine using Windows Authentication if I use "runas" to launch Excel with domain credentials, as follows:
    "runas /netonly /user:domain\user %path-to-excel%\excel.exe"
However, using "runas" is a kludge, and our employees will almost certainly have issues... even if I were to create batch files to help automate it.
When launching Excel normally (without using "runas") from a non-domain machine, it gives this error when I hit Refresh:
Upon hitting OK, I have the option to un-check "Use Trusted Connection" and manually enter a user/password.  I put in a valid user that would be able to connect fine from a domain-joined machine, or that worked fine using "runas".
This is the error it gives with that:
At this point, I have not a clue what to do to get Excel to successfully connect with domain credentials from a non-domain machine.
    Ideas?

    Hi ltwally1,
From your description, you want to connect to non-domain machines using domain credentials. Based on my research, you can use the
ShellRunAs utility to achieve your requirement , it provides functionality similar to that of RunAs to launch programs as a different user via a convenient shell context-menu entry.
    Reference:
How to Run Programs as a Domain User from a Non-domain Computer.
However, if you still encounter issues by using  ShellRunAs utility, you can consider to use the Credential Manager built into Windows. For more details, please review
    this similar
    blog.

  • Export to Excel: Row Auto Height Removed on Data Connection Refresh

    Hi all,
When I perform a Data Connection Refresh on an Excel workbook exported from SharePoint it removes the row auto height I had in place, hiding valuable information. This is an additional column I added to perform some calculations.
    Any ideas?
    K.
    Personal Blog: http://thebitsthatbyte.com

    Hi Kelly,
As I understand, you have a SharePoint list and click export to Excel under List tab. Then the list is exported to Excel spreadsheet.
Generally speaking, all field column width and height keep in the same size when the list is exported to Excel. In Excel, under PAGE LAYOUT tab > Scale to Fit, make Width and Height to be Automatic and Scale to 100%.
Then the cell should be good. If there is some column still exceed the width of Excel cell, please right click the cell > Format cells > Alignment > Text control, click Wrap text to increase the cell size to fit the text, or click Shrink to fit
    to shrink the text.

  • Data connectivity failure?

Its been at minimum two months since i last had a reliable data connection.  My troubles began after the last software update was pushed, my data connection sporadically shuts on and off (drives me crazy).  After several attempts to fix the issue with IT support, without any success, i was finally informed today that the last Android update has impacted all Droid phones data connectivity.  The issue has been identified by Google and Verizon is also aware, however, there is no ETA on a new update from Google that will address the issue.  I don't know how many of you out there are impacted, but does it seem fair to you to continue to pay for a data plan that is not functioning correctly? I think NOT! The same question was made to the Tech Rep i spoke to today. I'm still waiting for a call back with an answer to the question.  If you are having the same issue, raise the question and demand a credit!

Good luck.  I can't wait for my contract to be over and leave this horrid company forever.
