Gradient in a circle???

how to paint a circle with a paint gradient but not as in the java tutorial from one side to another, but a gradient paint from the middle to outside??
thanks

  • Radial gradients with tangent circles

I'm trying to implement radial gradients in some open-source projects (cairo and pixman), based on the PDF specification.
The specification does not say explicitly how to handle the case when the start and end circle are tangent, but from my understanding the non-negative radius clause applies to them as well, so they should paint just an half-plane (even if Extend is true).
An example of such gradients is available here:
    http://people.freedesktop.org/~ranma42/radial-gradients/
The png files show what I believe would be the correct rendering of the pdf's.
Adobe Reader paints the whole plane when it encounters these gradients, but Apple Preview shows them as I would expect.
What should happen when the two circles are tangent?
Is my interpretation of the specification (and thus my rendering) correct?

A reduced version of the PDF document (containing just one gradient hitting the cornercase of tangent start and end circle) is here:
    http://people.freedesktop.org/~ranma42/radial-gradients/reduced/radial-gradient.pdf.argb32 .out.pdf

  • Urgent - need help with ring gradient

Does anyone know how do I apply spectrum gradient to this circle as on pic (its a dry brush stroke that comes with illustrator)
    Please help, i tried everything

this is in CS5. in CS6 and above you can make life much easier by using a gradient along a stroked circle.
these are your ingredients: circle with the appropriate brush and a line with a stroke.
rotate the line about one end however many steps you need for each colour (rotate tool, alt-click on the bottom of the path, use smart guides to pinpoint it).
change each path to your colours. make a copy of the first colour (orange here) and paste in front (ctrl+F).
select all the lines. make a blend (ctrl + alt + B).
select the brushed circle. expand appearance (object > expand appearance). this particular one was a group, and we want a compound path, so I ungrouped it and made a compound path (ctrl + 8). position it over your colour wheel. make sure its in front.
select both and make a clipping path (ctrl + 7).

  • Sample a color from gradient

    Hi guys,
1 - How do i sample a color from a gradient in a text? Here is the sample
    http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1TDDZ2kv0TRFDgJ1nNqSVQm25lapV
I keep getting a white circle, like the color is not there. I put a gradient in a circle following this tutorial,
    http://vectips.com/tutorials/quick-tutorial-adding-gradients-to-text/
maybe is ok to place the gradient inside the text but then i cannot sample color. How can i do it?
2 - How can i make a beautiful gradient/layer effect like this logo?
    http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=17CZROx3OiS23A8jq2WVsfXkY88RHr
    Thanks for any info!
    Cheers,
    S.-

And another way is to simply create a normal blend from 2 rectangles, with your choice of start and end colors from your swatches. The same ones you used in your gradient. This creates a color ramp with as many complimentary blends as you need. In my illustration I used 25.
Now, choose Menu -> Object -> Expand, say OK to the dialog. You can now use the Eyedropper tool to select the colors you would like to add to your swatches. Move the blend outside of the Artboard for future use, or delete it when finished.
TIP:  if you want only a certain subset of colors, ungroup the blend after expanding it, choose the colors you want (or all), and then in the swatches pallette, from the top right drop down menu, choose "Add Selected Colors".
Menu -> Object -> Blend Options: choose your steps, then choose Menu -> Object -> Blend -> Make, or Cmd-Alt-B/Ctr-Alt-B
SORRY -- The graphic should say "25 Steps"... I changed it, which you can too, by going back to the Blend Options dialog. Check Preview to see what you're doing, and actually fit the blend directly under your chosen dot over the "i".

  • How to make a mangled circle smooth-edged again

AI CS3.<br /><br />I'm fixing someone else's file. I've got a circle (filled with a gradient) into which an irregular shape (basically a square which was curved on the edge where it met the circle) was cut. The square had to be deleted (it contained a graphic we didn't want) which left me with a big white squarish space cut into the circle.<br /><br />I can move the two corner points that formed the square out to the edge of the circle, but I can't figure out how to make them curve points. Right now I've got a circle with some straight line segments that ruin the circular path.<br /><br />I knew how to do this in FreeHand. <grumble><br /><br />If someone can tell me how to do a Paste Into in Illustrator, I might be able to go back to my original file and paste the gradient into the irregular shape and match it up with the gradient in the circle.<br /><br />TIA,<br /><br />Marlene

Are you sure you do not have a Compound Path that you can release?

  • Unable to save a gradient to a swatch panel

Help,  I was always able to do this before.  (should be simple...) I made a gradient and just want to save / add it to a Swatch Panel that I've already defined and saved.  I used to be able to drag (I think) the gradient into the desired Swatch Panel and then 'save the swatch again' It won't let me do this today even though I just did it last night!  :-(
I'm working on a Windows 7 machine and I am using Illustrator CS5....
Very frustrating; any help would be super, thanks!

humm, thank you for the reply.  I'm not sure what I did last night then (and many other times, I still have others saved too)   I have a Swatch panel with all the gradients I saved for one project.  I can open a new document, call up that swatch panel by choosing to view a USER DEFINED panel with a name I saved it as...and all my gradients are right there....so I'm entirely confused now.  All I did was drag the gradient over to it and resave it???
Frustrating.  I saved 3 gradients just last night and it worked perfectly.....
Now I can't drag the new gradient over to the panel I previously saved.  When I try to it beeps at me.
In case I'm describing this totally wrong I've inserted a pic of the Panel which I've named TES GRADIENTS and even circled the gradients... there all 3 of them are.  How did I do that LOL....

  • Can't apply gradients

I am following the Apple Pro Training Series book for Motion and in the second Chapter it asks me to add an Icy Blue gradient onto the Circle City particle(already in the canvas) to change its color. As soon as I drop it on the canvas I see it bouncing back to the library pane from where it came. I then tried it on different templates and it seems to work fine on some (i.e. the generators) but not on others. I am using my brand new Mac Pro with the following specs:
    Model Name: Mac Pro
    Model Identifier: MacPro1,1
    Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Total Number Of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
    Memory: 5 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz
    Boot ROM Version: MP11.005C.B04
    SMC Version: 1.7f8
    Serial Number: G87140EBUQ2
the version of Motion I use is the 3.0.1
I'll greatly appreciate if any of you can help me get past this.

No that didn't work either. I guess what the book is trying to have me do is a very simple thing: they want to show the readers firstly that they can use particle emitters that are generator-like (so they first have you choose the particle emitters icon in the library, then choose the abstract folder that appears in the right hand pane and lastly, drag the cirlce city {could be anyone i think} icon that appears in the lower pane among a bunch of other emitters, to the canvas). Secondly they wanna show you that you don't have to stick to that original color and so they ask you to add a gradient (so they ask you to choose the gradients icon in the right hand pane {where you previously chose the particle emitters icon}, and, since there is only one folder that appears in the right hand pane that says All, you immediately see all the icons of all the gradients in the lower pane, so they ask you to drag icy blue {again it could be any one of them i guess} and drop it in the canvas to change its color). I think this is a very basic and simple thing in MOTION but for some reason I keep doing it with no result....the gradient instead of being added, is bounced back to where it came from (the bottom pane). I checked the layers tab and all locks are open. The time line is running 120 frames at 24 fps. I saw the object is Geo05 and if i turn it on the only thing it does is show a cirlce in the center of the canvas but if i try to add the gradient to it it will still repel it.

  • Gradient Transparency for Vector Mask

I am having trouble getting my gradient tool to work on a vector mask for transparency. I haven't changed any settings! Nothing happens when I use the gradient tool. Someone help please??

I think I may have not explained my situation well enough. Hopefully this helps clarify, which will help you to answer again if you can. Thanks for replying! You seem to know a lot and I am really hopeful that you can help me out.
I'm working on a photo, which is the background layer. I've created a basic action that lightens my image. This of course is a new layer and I don't want the whole image lightened, just parts. Once I click on that action and the new layer is created, I then hit the vector mask button in my lower layer tab, to create a mask, which I then use the gradient tool to adjust accordingly. In my example, I use this to then only lighten a part of the photo either with the side to side gradient or the circle gradient. I apologize for the lack of proper terms! This has always worked in the past.
I think the problem has something to do with the gradient not working. Even if I put a solid shape in a new layer, it does nothing when I try to use the gradient on that.
Does this clarify my problem any better?

  • Bending the edges of a gradient?

hi all. i have an image with a linear gradient filling a circle
i want to bend the gradient towards the left and right edges of the circle to create the appearance of a spinning sphere.
i tried using the warp tools but these only had effect on the circle that the gradient fills, not the actual gradient itself.
i also tried using a radial graident, but that obviously caused the entire gradient to be bent on a circular path, not just the edges.
i attached an example of what i am trying to achieve below
    http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d188/OphidianShenzi/gradientcircleproblem.jpg
so - im stumped! any advice?
    thank you in advance!

Understand, after creating the Blend you can directSelect (whitePointer) either of the key objects and alter its color stops in the Grad palette as desired.
Key principles related to effective use of Blends:
You can blend between objects that have grad fills. The grad fills do not have to have the same angles.
Blends are generated between corresponding anchorPoints of each path. So results are more predictable/controllable if the blended paths have the same number of anchorPoints.
Likewise, when blending between grads, it is more predictable/controllable to have the same number of grad color stops on each blended path, even if some or all of the adjacent stops in some paths are the same color.
You can designate two anchorPoints as "corresponding" by having them selected when you invoke the Blend command. Or, do as demonstrated, and blend between two copies of the same path and then perform transformations on directSelected paths after the Blend is made.
Blends are built point-by-point in a straight line. So in my original example, rotating 180 degrees looks the same as no rotation at all.

  • Just trying to add noise to a smooth glow

Hello, and thank you for your time.
I think Im just missing it:
I have a circle with a glow around it. How can I add noise or turbulence to the smooth glow gradient around the circle and also animate its phase?
    D

    thanks for the reply,
I did add a turbulence noise filter under my glow but what it did was wash out the glow colour. The default white colour of the noise filter mixes with the red colour of my glow so I get this washed pink look.
There has to be a way to just add the noise without chaging the colour of the glow.?

    Hi Gramps
    Thank you for replying.
I did try that solution previously, but gave it another go. It did not work, so I thought maybe I should try it on a dummy page. It works on FireFox/Opera/Chrome/Safari but not in IE.

  • Spiny circles in CS 3 - gradient tool - get rid off

Somehow I got two circles with hash marks (on the outer edge @45 degree intervals) that appear using the gradient tool.  Not sure how I got them there nor do I know how to get rid of them
    Can anybody help?
You can click and drag them and it makes a sort of global gradient.
    Thanks in advance.
    Rich

    Rich,
Unfortunately, instead of embedding your image in your post, you sent it as an attachment.  As such, it goes straight into the virus-scanning qeue and won't be visible for hours or days.
To embed the image in your post for instant viewing, use the camera icon in the formatting bar of the reply box.

All of my featherd brushes come out as solid circles instead of an even radial gradient.  How can I fix this problem?
Here is the kicker, when I use the eraser tool I can use all the feathered brush.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
Perhaps you have the pencil tool selected instead of the brush tool?

  • Creating gradient colors in a circle - InDesign CS2 or Illustrator??

Hi -- trying to create a circle with multi-colored 'wedges' (can I attach an image here???). It seems I can only create gradients vetically or horizontally -- and I need it to look more like "pie slices" in the circle, if that makes sense. I am new - sorry. Should I keep struggling in Illustrator or InDesign?
Any design tips GREATLY appreciated -- I'm trying to recreate a logo, original atrwork not available. Can send original if anyone is interested.. many many thanks, Colleen

I know how to do it in Photoshop, but I did a quick look and can't find
anything in Illulstrator or Indesign. I guess the problem is there
wouldn't be a clear beginning and end to the gradient.
anyway, if you're interested, in photoshop, create a linear gradient
that takes up the whole canvas, then do Filter > Distort > Polar
    Coordinates.

  • Circle gradient banding

I'm trying to replicate a circle gradient from gray to black. It renders badly inside Motion, and even worse in QT on output. You can see every step.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Michael

If you're using 8 bit, you've got 256 steps. That's it. Did you try adding the reduce banding filter? It adds noise to break up the banding.
