Grainy text after pasting into preview

Hi,
I've been having a problem with Preview after upgrading to OS 10.9 Mavericks.  Before Mavericks, I used to construct figures with graphics and text within applications like Keynote.  When I was happy with it, I would select the bit I'd want to save, and then copy and paste it into Preview.  From there I could save as a pdf and everything would retain very high resolution (e.g., text wouldn't appear grainy, and would appear exactly as it did in Keynote irrespective of how far I zoomed in on it).
However, what happens now is that once I copy and paste into preview, the text now appears very low resolution, and I can't seem to figure out how to get Preview to simply take what I have on my clipboard and paste it as it was from Keynote.
Contrary to this, I find that if I use Keynote to export as PDF and use 'Best' for Image Quality, I get text that looks like what I used to get with older versions of the OS.  However, the reason I don't use this option is because I can't control what is selected for exporting to PDF, whereas, my method of copying and pasting my selected content into Preview used to work much better...
Any suggestions about why this is now happening in Preview for Mavericks and how to get around it?

I submitted a request to fix the thread and submitted a bug request.
Thanks!

    SUPPLEMENT TO MY PREVIOUS POST
The copy and paste into dialog boxes works just fine.  I suspect that my earlier problem was due to not being familiar with the new computer's keyboard.  I am used to the CTRL key being located at the bottom left of the keyboard.  The new keyboard has the Fn key in that position.  I must have pressed Fn instead of CTRL.  The old habits die hard.  I feel like for not noticing this earlier.

  • How can I keep my text format after pasting a text with a different format?

No matter when and where I start to write some text (whether it is a SImpleText, E-Mails, or anyother application's doc), if I have to cut and paste a text from a different source that is formatted differently than my original text (ie. the one I am already using ), once I have pasted the differently formatted text in my doc, the typeset changes while it continues to type with the same formatt used in the text I just pasted.
How can I continue typing with the same text formatt used before pasting the new text, after pasting the new text, without having to change size, font style etc. Is there a short cut?
What I have been doing to avoid this problem is: I usually type my entire text content (whether it is an E-Mail, or other doc) then, once I am done typing, I paste the text that was cut from a differently formatted document, so that my text remains with the same formatt in its integrity, while the pasted text stands out differently, but it is a bit complex doing that , because I not only have to remember to paste the other text when I am done typing (I run the risk of forgetting to paste the text I need to insert--which has happened already) or I keep struggling with my formatt change after the pasting of the new text, so my document text starts looking like the same text as the one which was just pasted.
Thanks for your time reading this!

    (1) First, let's make sure we're talking about the same thing. By "SImpleText, E-Mails" you mean TextEdit and Mail, right?
    (2) Some apps (TextEdit, Mail) use the text engine provided by Mac OS X. By and large, these apps will behave in a similar manner. Others (eg, MS Word) use their own text engine, and their behaviour can be quite different. For such an app you need to consult its manual.
    (3) In TextEdit, if you want the pasted text to adopt the current style, then use kurt188's tip.
    (4) However, if you may want the pasted text to retain its own attributes, while you continue to type in the previous style. I don't know of any shortcut or command that will achieve this. However, you can try to work around it.
(4.1) TextEdit has the Copy Style (⌘⌥C) and Paste Style (⌘⌥V) commands. If you haven't yet used it, ⌘⌥V will insert the default style. So type, paste, ⌘⌥V, then continue typing. If you have used, it will insert whatever style was copied. You can, type, ⌘V, click somewhere before the pasted text, ⌘⌥C, click after the pasted text, ⌘⌥V, and continue typing.
(4.2) Alternatively, type your text. Then type one more character, eg, "x". Then ←, ⌘V, ⇧→, and start typing. The new text should adopt "x"'s format. (This should work in Mail, too. I don't know, because IMHO e-mail should always be plain text.)

  • Cp5 - Pasting text from Notepad into a text box

I posted this message in the "Getting Started Forum" but there isn't a whole lot of activity in that forum.
Hopefully someone can help me because I have a lot of text to paste into a lesson.
This  seems like such an elementary requirement and I am almost certain that I  have done this before but...for some reason, copying text from Windows  Notepad into a Captivate 5 text box just isn't working today.
Basically, the paste option is simply not available!
Yes, I can copy paste into other applications; Captivate is the only application that is blocking this Windows function.
If  I insert a Text Entry Box, I am able to paste single lines of text  (from Notepad) but obviously this isn't going to work as a text box.
Is this by design or has something gone haywire?
Question, how do I get pre-written text (i.e. from Notepad) into Captivate?
    Thanks

    Shawn,
I have had that happen to me too.  I am always copying and pasting into my Captivate projects.  But sometimes the paste option is just not available.  What I have done, is to save everything and close the application and start it again.  Seems there's a lot of little irritating things like that with Captivate, that's corrected with a restart.  Hope this helps!

  • How copy article from Internet, paste into document, send as email attachment

A friend has asked me to do some research for her. She has limited online hours. She wants me to copy articles from Internet, paste them into a document, then send that document AS AN ATTACHMENT to an email. I know how to copy the article, BUT I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO PASTE IT INTO A DOCUMENT, NOR DO I KNOW HOW TO SEND THAT DOCUMENT AS AN ATTACHMENT TO EMAIL.
Normally when I copy and paste, it goes directly into the email. The goal of this method I have been asked to use, is so that the recipient can download the document and read it off line. Thanks for any advice on this.

Others give good advice, here - but, to answer your question...
First, you'll need to use a text editor to create the document that will contain the pasted information, and which will become the attachment to your email. TextEdit, which probably came with your Mac, will work. Whatever text editor or word processor you use, be sure to Save the document in a format she can open. Rich text is probably the safest choice, because almost any word processor can open that format.
So, start TextEdit, and when the new document appears, select Save from the File menu. When the Save window pops up, give the new document a name, and select your Desktop for the location. Down at the bottom of the Save window, for File Format, choose Rich Text Format (RTF). If she is not on a Mac, be sure the Hide Extension box is NOT checked. Click the Save button.
Now you can start copying and pasting from websites. The process will go like this:
Select some text, then choose Copy from your browser's Edit menu. Next, switch to TextEdit, put your cursor where you want the text to appear, and select Paste from TextEdit's Edit menu. (If you are going to do a lot of this, it will pay to learn the keyboard shortcuts.)
Selecting text on web pages can be somewhat frustrating. For really long selections, click once to put your cursor where you want to start copying, scroll down to where you want to end, and - while holding down the Shift key - click again; everything between the clicks will be selected. Try to select text, only. If you paste any graphics into your RTF document, TextEdit will prompt you to re-Save the document in RTFD format. If she really needs graphics, you can do that, but before you do, be sure she can open documents in that format. Most tables on web pages are impossible to copy and paste without the columns and rows going all out of alignment, so screen shots - which are images - are the best bet for tables. (If she can't open a RTFD document, you can convert the FINISHED file to a non-editable, but easily viewable, PDF document by choosing that option from the Print window. Be warned that if you create a long document with many graphics, and then convert it to PDF, the file size can get big - possibly preventing some mail servers from delivering it.)
When you start pasting into TextEdit, you are going to get all sizes of text in various colors and fonts. If you paste text from a web-page that has white text on a black background, you will not see the white letters on your white page (tip: select the white area). After the first text is pasted into TextEdit, go to the Format menu and select Font>Show Fonts and a new tool window will appear. Select the text you just pasted, and format it to a readable size and font, then de-select the text. From now on, whenever you want to paste: from TextEdit's Edit menu, select Paste and Match Style.
When you are ready to send the file, Save and Close your TextEdit document. From Mail's File menu, select Attach File. Navigate to your Desktop, select your document, and, if she is using Windows, check the box to Send Windows Friendly Attachments. Click Choose File, to add the attachment to your email.

  • Using text select tool in Preview--pasting into Word

Hi, since the recent updates made Acrobat Pro 7 unusable (installer crashes, Acrobat crashes upon displaying title bars . . . I've posted on this elsewhere), I have been using Preview. I noticed that when I select and copy a piece of text in Preview and then paste this selection into a Word document the selection is unreadable. Is there any way to make the image readable?

    Liz,
I have the same problem. Acrobat Reader 7 works well in my computer... I do not know if you can copy/paste into Word. However, I am going to reintall the System X and not do the recent updates (QT7, wireless keyboard and Security from last Friday)

AFAIK, there has not been an update regarding this issue as yet.

  • ID CS4 slow after pasting text from MS Word

Each time I paste text from a Word document into my ID CS4 document, ID begins to run very slowly. I can't even type properly. Has anyone else seen this?
I have fixed this problem by copying all the text and pasting in the a new document (I thought the document was possibly corrupted). This fixed the problem, but it has happened multiple times now. Much of my information comes from engineers' word documents, so this is not convenient.

The best I can tell, it is related to the cross references, and that it happened after pasting was coincedental. It could have been that pasting made a cross referenced section move to another page, so it was trying to update.
The cross references are a little buggy:
EVERY time I create a cross ref from the cross ref menu (in the cross ref window), ID CS4 (with all patches) crashes. If I create them from the Text menu (at the top), it doesn't crash.
If you have a large number of cross refs in a doc, it becomes slow.
When slowness occurs, I have found that updating the cross refs and then resolving all errors in the cross ref window usually clears it up.

  • Copy & Paste into Google Maps no longer works after 4.2 update

Anyone else seem to be getting this problem? Copy and paste into Google maps was extremely useful. Now this doesn't seem to work for me after updating to 4.2.

    1. Copy something into the clipboard (doesn't matter what it is)
    2. Open Google maps
    3. Try to paste into the search bar. You don't get the paste option.
    4. Try to type something into the search bar then attempt to copy what you just typed. No options appear to copy what was just typed in.
This used to work prior to the 4.2 update. Very useful when receiving incomplete addresses via text message or from a web page.

  • How can I change the format of text pasted into a Mail email from another document?

I paste some text from a word document into an email in Mail.  In the word document, the text was indented .5" from the right margin.  In the Mail email document, the text also appears indented .5" from the right margin.
But since this was the last text in the email I am composing, my text following the pasted-in part continues at the indented "style" of the pasted in text.  And thre are no controls for changing this indentation on subsequent text in that email, nor can you chage the indentation formatting of the text pasted in.
Even when you select "decrease indentation" under the format/indentation options in the menu bar, Mail will not reduce a "pasted-in" paragraph indentation nor will it return a subsequent text paragraph you type in manually back to a left-adjusted margin.
    Am I miising something?
Is there a way to see something in each Mail message composition window akin to what you see in a word processing document that allows you to set margins and indentations and tabs for individual paragraphs?  Just like the Formatting controls you have here in the Apple Support communities when you ar composing a message and that I used to indent this paragraph?
And then used to return this paragraph back to the original left adjusted formatting?
    Steve

Thanks for the reminder.  I use the formatting toolbar but forgot to go there instead of the Format menubar item for Mail to try the indent and outdent commands.
But, alas, that indent, outdent option has no impact on text pasted into the message.  It remains stuck at the indent level of the source text.
Might the answer lie in switching to plain text and formatting there?  Tried that and no difference.
I did discover that if you highlight text pasted in with its "own" indentation preference "baked in" you can indent that text further and even "outdent" it back to where it was, but you cannot shake it's original indentation status to get it back to full left margins.

  • Pages crashed after pasting text from email - no longer able to access that document

I was working on a Pages document on my iPad, and after pasting text from an email, Pages closed. As of then, I was no longer able to open or email the document, whether on Pages itself, on iCloud or on iTunes. I worked two hours on this important document and am not sure whether this can be recovered. Any support would be most appreciated.

This is why I asked Apple to edit the entries as I showed above.
Of course, it would be useful to edit also the entry available in the iOS area.
Replace iWork for iOS by iWork (Keynote, Numbers, Pages) for iOS
or better add three entries :
    Keynote for iOS
    Numbers for iOS
    Pages for iOS
Having four entries pointing to the same forum would not be perfect but at least it would be clear and would be a viable scheme during the time required by engineers to find a way to split the existing iWork for iOS forum in three ones.

  • SQL query works in the SQLPlus, but fires parse error after being cut and pasted into

One of our client has a SQL query like this:
    SQL> SELECT LNAME,
    2 QUOTA/12,
    3 (SELECT SUM(CAMT) FROM CONSULTING WHERE CONSULTANT = P.EMPLOYEE
    4 AND ACTIVITYCODE = 'C'AND

    QUOTA/12 AS PL
    9 FROM PERSONNEL P

Running the above query in the SQLPlus returns appropriate resultsets to the

    Sunny,
From the error message that you posted it seems that you are putting a semicolon ";" at the end of your query. I checked the query that you have posted. It is working fine for me. (I am using 3.0.8) but I feel it will work in your version also. I tried the query without a ";" at the end --It worked.
I tried with ";" at the end -- It gave the error that you have posted. So remove the ";" at the end and it should work. If you are still getting the same error then pls write down the version you are using. I will check in that version.
    Thanx,
    Chetan.

  • Why does text not format correctly when pasting into outlook?

I am attaching a Screenshot of an email to better help you understand.
Basically, I receive an email from customer.  I draft an email to respond and send to my boss to get approval.  Once my boss approves, I go back to my original sent email and copy and paste into a reply to the original email from my customer but for some reason in Outlook for Mac it doesn't format correctly.  It always pastes the text in a sorda column if you will, as though word wrap isnt working.  When I send it, it looks even worse to the customer, especially if they are looking at it on a phone.  I have looked high and low and cant find an answer.  Thanks in advance!
FYI I copied and pasted the text into "Pages" to show exactly what it is doing.

  • Way to copy text only from Adobe and paste into Apple Pages?

I tried upgrading to Adobe ExportPDF and exporting to Word in hope that it would translated OK to Apple Pages.  It did not, but I don't think it was because it had problems converting from Word to Pages. My guess is that it's because most of the text was wrapped around images.  I know this because on the text that was NOT wrapped around image, I was able to paste it, though it was not a smooth convert in the sense that some fonts were substituted, certain characters were smooshed together and the spacing was uneven.  That part was a conversion issue; however it is still more preferable than having to retype all the text.
Unless I can come up with another alternative this is what I will be forced to do on many, many PDF's that I need to convert (or successfully paste) into text-only documents.
It's weird because back in the day, I recall being able to simply highlight text that I wanted in a PDF document and then paste that text into a Pages document.  Then it all changed and Adobe doesn't seem to allow you be able to do that.
Can anyone come up with a workaround for this problem?  I don't have hours upon hours to convert all my PDF writing work into text only docs (to put on my online portfolio to make it easier for clients, etc., to read).
Any help with this problem would be most appreciated.

I don't know what "Apple Pages" are, but since you talk about ExportPDF, I will move your post to the appropriate forum.
