Grep Question: removing dates and brackets

I am trying to remove
[01/01/1996-12/31/1996]
wherever it appears in text.... the dates would all be different and sometimes how they appear.
Is there a way to remove brackets and whatever is within them?
I did this once and cannot remember how!

Do you also have brackets surrounding things you want to keep? If not, searching for \[.+?\] ought to work, I think. Repalce with nothing

Using GREP to bold Date and Event Name

Hi
I am stumped at how to properly apply a bold style to a combination of dates and event names using GREP. I am including three examples below. I do have Paragraph and Characters styles set up. The area I would like to effect the change is in all caps. I am trying to add a bold style only to the dates and the title of the event with out changing the rest of the information.
I started of with this GREP Style:
\d{1,2}\/\d{1,2}|\d\-?\s|\u
It is bolding the dates and the name of the event. But it's not bolding the small dash between events that have a beginning and end dates or the en dash. It is randomly bolding other numbers and capital letters that it should not. Very frustrating. Each time I alter the GREP Style above, it makes it worse. This is as close as I got to the desired effect. Any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks! That works. I am using a paragraph style for the body and have a bold character style for the information that needs to be bolded. I notice there are some listings that uses a colon and the bolding continued into the description where the first period appears (see samples below). I added a colon (to the shorter GREP style you suggested) in addition to the perod and excalamation point to search for.. Now the bolding stops at the colon but does not include up to the word "CARRY" (see first example). The second example, the bolding should stop after "FAIRE" but cotinues to the word Wisdom because of the period.
I wish there was a option in the GREP drop menu to search for All Caps only and not Any Uppercase Letter. Is it a case were I need to manually edit those instances so it conforms to the norm? Or is there away to modify the GREP expression ^.+?[.!] to also include other instance like the example below?
I alread try to add an additional rule using the Postive Look Ahead and nothing. And using the Any Uppercase Letter option, either forces the text back to the begining looking unstylized or it forces any capital letters to be bolded.

Removing data and passwords

I have MacBookPro from 2008. I am running Lion 10.7.5 on the system. There is a startup disk application in my utilities. I also have a VMWare partition with Window (dont scream). I want to barter this system with someone so I need to remove all the data and passwords ont the system, also the account and the iTunes/iCloud links under my user name. But, I do not want to lose all the applications that are installed on the system. Can anyone suggest a proven method for doing this. Thanks all.

Proven at what level? DoD? detach HD, shredder it, set new HD, reinstall
smart human? reformat, reinstall.
mere mortal? set new account, remove old account. But problems will arise here and there

A question about date and number formats

I have to change date and number formats from USA to UK format. Is the only place I must do that in user settings (SU01) ? I mean, is this enough or are there any other customizing settings, in FI for example ?

Question about Date and Time formulas

Hi, I am new to Numbers, former Excel user. I have been able to use Numbers fine until I got stuck in trying to calculate paces. I am a triathlon coach and use pace for running. In Excel I could type pace in as a product of time. So if I want it to show 7:45, I would use date and time and punch in 12:07:45 and it would show up as 7:45. Then in the cells below, I could take that 7:45 cell and divide "/" by .8, etc and it would produce another pace (7:34 for example).
When I try the same thing in Numbers, it will produce the 7:45 by punching in 12:07:45, but it will not let me divide of multiply. It gives me the triangle and says "the operator / expects a number, but found 7:45. And will not divide or multiply. Anyone know a way around this?

Go to the Inspector and set the cell format to "Duration", with the units set to "Minutes".
Now, the cell value will appear "7:45", and when you set an adjacent cell and set it to .8 of this one, its value will be "6:12" (that is, 7:45 = 465 seconds; .8 of 465 is 372 seconds, or 6:12).
This is what you're looking for, correct?

Remove date and time?

I made a mistake and turned on the date / time when i was recording. Can I remove it in FCX?

other options:
lay the 'Censor' effect over that area, to 'hide' it
or, lay a Gaussian blur effect over that area
really elaborated would be to 'grab' some pixels around the unwanted area, and 'stamp' that out - like you do in Photoshop/Pixelmator.
And finally there are commercial products, which claim to 'heal' such unwanted areas in your frame....
I would test first Luis suggestion, to zoom-in ...

i need to find the number of days between 2 given dates. For example, the number of days between Nov 29th 2006and Dec 3rd 2006 is 4. The number of days between Nov 10th and Nov 15th is 5. How do i do this? Is there an api for doing this?

I have a page (form) to capture attendance. It works, it allows user to enter their attendance details. On click, it writes to the database - table. The date is not captured on the form. There are several ways. One is to get the date from the php time() function and use that in your insert statement. Another is to use MySQL CURDATE() function. But probably the easiest and best is to simply define the default value for the date/time column as the current date/time and exclude it from the insert statement. No code changes necessary.

Question concerning data removal from external hard drive

I have been backing up via Time Machine to a 500 Gig external hard drive. I will be adding a 1 TB external hard drive and switch the Time Machine backups to that unit. I want to then use the 500 Gig unit to store photos, music and video, to free up space on the iMac. I have found the tutorials/threads that explain how to move the photos and music. I have two questions.
First, will moving video from iMovie work basically the same as moving the photos and/or music?
Secondly, what is the proper way to remove the existing Time Machine data from the 500 gig unit, once I have the 1TB unit up and running and know that Time Machine is backing up to it?

I can help with number two. There are two things you can do, one quickly, the second more securely.
Both can be done with Disk Utility in the Apps/Utilities folder. Open DU with the HDD attached to your Mac and highlight the HDD in the left hand pane and choose Erase for the right hand pane. Press the Erase button. It should happen pretty fast, but because it is a big drive it may take a couple of minutes. But this does not really erase the data, and some recovery software could do a good job of getting a lot of you data back.
Since you want to store media libraries on this drive perhaps a better way to condition the drive is to select a Security Option and write zeros to the drive. After this any bad sectors on the drive will be locked out and not used in the future. Because this is a big drive this could take a few hours.

Remove a meeting on specific time date and subject line

Hi
I have a situation where a meeting organizer is no longer able to update or cancel a meeting she booked. Some how she also became the participant of the meeting and now has lost control of the actual meeting. Not able to edit or send update. I've exhausted
my efforts in trying to find a solution for this. Doesn't look like there is anyway to get back ownership or transfer it to someone else.
So my next plan is to remove the meeting from everyone's calendar via a script. So my question is, is there a way to remove a meeting from all participants calendar where the date/time and subject line is known. This is to ensure only that meeting is removed
from the calendar.
or if anyone has some other ideas please do share. I need to somehow send notification of cancellation and remove the meeting from outlook and the organizer has no control anymore.

Per my understanding, you might want to display all the specific documents in a page, they can be filtered by values of a Date and time column.
A possible solution I will provide is that, we can create custom visual web part to display all these documents. In the code behind, run a query with CAML to retrieved all the
documents with the specific date and time, then generate a view of hyperlinks that points to these documents.
In this way, we can combine the filter component with the data display component into one web part, with the help of CAML query and Object Model, it would not be a tough job to
implement such a solution.

Question regarding roaming and data usage

I am currently out of my main country of service, and as such I have a question regarding roaming and data usage.
I am told that the airplane mode is sufficient from keeping the phone off from roaming, but does this apply to any background data usage for applications and such?
If the phone is in airplane mode, are all use of the phone including wifi and application use through the wifi outside of all extra charges from roaming?

Just to elaborate here, Ann154 is referring to access charges for wifi, which is nothing to do with Verizon, so if you are using it in a plane, hotel, an internet cafe etc that charges for Wifi rather than being free . Verizon does not charge you (or indeed know about!) wifi usage, or any other usage that is not on their cellular network (such as using a foreign SIM for example in global phones) So these charges, if any, will not show up on the verizon bill app. Having it in airplane mode prevents all cellular data traffic so you should be fine

My phone has Unlimited Data and Hotspot
Other 3 do not have any data.
I am curious what I can do and can't do that will keep keep the plan as is and not force things to share everything.
I am allowed to have 5 phones under this plan. I am curious about adding and deleting phones.
I did try and add a 5th phone. When I tried to activate a 5th phone online it would not let me do it. Tried to get me to change plans.

yes to everything; you can add a line (up to 5 total for Family Share), drop a line, upgrade a basic line to a smartphone (and then add a tiered data plan) and stay on your current calling plan ... it may be easier done in your local Corporate Verizon store, though ... just be sure they don't try to switch you to Share Everything if that's not what you want
