I want to order a book, but I'm hesitating. The book jacket appears on the pdf workflow but flyleaf and end paper don't. Instead of this page two reproduces a white ground with the book title on it.
Should this be so ?
Aperture theme is modern style and big hardcover.

Export PDF Workflow with Applescript and CS3

I am setting up some PDF workflow with Applescript.
On a given moment, as my script runs and after getting some user-input answers to questions in some dialogs, my script tells InDesign CS3 to open the Export Adobe PDF window for the current document. I copied and pasted that small part of the script:

When you run this small part of my Applescript, InDesign opens the Export Adobe PDF window (as expected) waiting for me to click on "Export". That is exactly what I want, since the user is given here a last opportunity to change some values (for example page range, or spreads). When all is set, the user can click on Export to close the dialog and finish the script.
Problem: I was hoping that the Adobe PDF Preset "somePreset" would be selected in the first pull-down menu of the Export Adobe PDF window when this window is opened by the script. Unfortunately the last used preset is always selected by default. Anyone suggestions or help?

My operators enter the page range and filename into a dialog box. Then I set those in the script. I use the Press Quality preset to start with and then set the changes I want into a export variable. I set things like bleed, marks, page range, etc.
Here is an example:

Bugs in PDF workflow/ Quartz Filters?

I've noticed several issues with PDF workflows in Lion that seem to have gone wrong. Whether deliberately or not, I don't know.
1. If you Export a PDF from Preview with a Quartz Filter, that filter is not applied to the copy of the PDF in Preview's window, though the file on disk does get the filter applied. If you close and reload the PDF, the effects of filter will be displayed.
2. If you create a new Quartz Filter in ColorSync Utility, it doesn't work.
Even duplicating an existing system filter, like "Gray Tone", doesn't work when you apply it to a PDF document in ColorSync Utility.
3. If you do have any user quartz filters, they don't show up in Preview's Export file dialog, unless you copy them from ~/Library/Filters to ~/Library/PDF Services.
There are several webpages about this.
4. Save As PDF-X has disappeared from the PDF button of the print menu.
I have seen other webpages that mention this.
All these issues are on both of my Macs, so I don't think it's a local problem, though I would be grateful for any confirmation.

I am still running Snow Leopard due to things dropped in Lion.
I needed fax capability before I could move to Lion.
I was also waiting for the bugs to get worked out because I will lose some time when changing over.
I still have the menu item with Snow Leopard but the work flow for PDF-X is now broken as well.
I have not always had Acrobat pro.
I am famialure with inserting, extracting, and typing information on PDF documents as one would need to do in an office.
I had always used preview and the PDF-X "save as" feature to embed fonts.
I see there is a save as format to "PDF/X" in Acrobat Pro v9.0.
There is a settings button next to the save as box.
It has four different settings or flavors of PDF/x:
PDF/X-1a
PDF/X-3
PDF/X-4
PDF/X-4p.
Then there is a conversion box that allows input of a "conversion profile".
There there is a viewing or printing condition box as well.
As you can see I don't work with colors much. It is all about preserving the text and images in a document as everything is usually black and white or grey scale.
What setting for PDF/X would you suggest if "font" embedding was an issue and it was desirable to preserve the text and images as they were, without regard to color correcton.

PDF workflow : pre-press preparations in Illustrator interfere : Suggestions?

Our packaging graphics group adopted a PDF workflow which has eliminated the clutter common of art file submissions. However, one print provider must preform additional preparations to the artwork, inserting supplier insignia and adding special press markings in addition to the customary trim marks and such. These final pre-press preparations are performed in Illustrator. Consequently, Illustrator ignores our PDF's embedded fonts. Unless the supplier has the same fonts installed, the PDF won't output accurately when it's saved/distilled again.
Any suggestions on how to retain a PDF workflow when pre-press preparations involve adding content?

You might look at inserting these objects as a watermark in PDF format?
Your choice is slightly limited with Acrobat but Enfocus Pitstop might
help? You can create a page mark action which will detect the trim box
and then append custom information outside for the pre-press
requirements ...

ich stehe ebenfalls vor dem aktuen Problem, den XMAS Patch (HR/EA-HR SP 64) für die Abrechnung dringend zu benötigen und bin erst jetzt direkt vor dem Einspielen auf den Hinweis 1510174 gestossen.
Ich würde mich sehr freuen, wenn Sie mir kurz mitteilen könnten, welche Patches bzw. Hinweise Sie aus der Flut an Aufgelisteten Möglichkeiten letztendlich eingespielt haben.
Die Tatsache, dass BASIS SP 24 noch gar nicht freigegeben ist, ist wirklich erstaunlich.
Bedeutet dies, dass man ohnehin keine andere Möglichkeit hat, als Hinweis 1497003 manuell einzubauen und zuvor auch noch den Kernel upzudaten wenn man die HR XMAS Patches dringend benötigt?
Haben Sie BASIS SP 23 trotzdem importiert oder nur den Hinweis manuell abgearbeitet?
Ich würde mich sehr über Infos zu Ihrer Erfahrung damit freuen und bedanke mich im Voraus!

Haben Sie danach auch irgendwelche logischen Dateinamen und -pfade konfiguriert oder reicht es vorerst, den Hinweis einzuspielen um anschliessend das HR XMAS SP importieren zu können ohne in ein Problem zu laufen?

Automator/PDF Workflow to create 11x17 pages?

Is there any existing Automator action or PDF workflow to print a standard Pages or Word doc, or 8.5x11 PDF, to an 11x17 workflow? I have a newsletter I've created using Word 2008 that is in the standard letter-size format. I can print it to PDF using the built-in PDF workflow, but what I would like to do is print it as a booklet using 11x17 paper folded in half. Basically, page 4 and 1 on one side, and 2 and 3 on the other. Right now the only option I know of is to save each page as an image and then use Pixelmator to save the images side-by-side in two 11x17 canvasses, and then use Preview to merge them into one PDF file to send to a printing company, but am sure there has to be an easier way. I would pay $20-50 just to get an Automator action or PDF workflow to do this step for me. Does such exist?

Wow! Thanks so much. I even have that workflow and never thought about it's usefulness for doing that with 8.5x11 pages. I use it all the time for 5.5x8.5 pages but for some reason never thought about this use for it. Awesome!

Automator Watermark PDF Workflow

Seems with every major upgrade, Apple breaks the Automator Watermark PDF Workflow.
Can someone test this workflow in Yosemite so I know if the problem I'm having is with OS X 10.10.

If the said error – ValueError: depythonifying 'pointer', got 'str' – is raised at the line:
provider = CGDataProviderCreateWithFilename(imagePath)
I'd think it is because imagePath is not a C string pointer which the function expects but a CFStringRef or something which is implicitly converted from python string. Since I don't get this error with pyobjc 2.2b3 & python 2.6 under 10.6.8, it is caused by something introduced in later versions.
Anyway, the statement in question may be replaced with the following statements if it helps:

Can not view Status diagram when clicked on status diagram in workflow admi

Select work flow administrator as responsibility.
Select status monitor.
Put in internal item type. I am using PAAPWEBX
Click on go.
Then click on any record and click on status diagram.
All I get is a blank screen.

Lost ability to view the status of PDF conversion

Greetings,
I've been using CS5 for about a week after upgrading from CS4 on Windows 7. Everything was running fine until yesterday afternoon, when I suddenly lost the ability to view the status of the conversion of InDesign files to PDFs.
Normally, when converting an InDesign file to a PDF using one of InDesign's PDF presets (Smallest File Size, High Quality Print, etc.) you see a status bar showing the status of the conversion within InDesign. Now when I convert an InDesign file to PDF, the PDF instantly appears in the save location without any status bars showing up in InDesign. The PDF is unopenable and the InDesign file is uncloseable until the conversion completes. In the end, there is no issue converting my files to PDF; however, it's a little annoying to convert a file and have to take a guess at when I can open it (some of my files can take quite some time to convert).
At first, I thought it was a problem with my PC or installation. My supervisor has another license installed on his laptop, so we gave it a try on his. Same problem. I just think it's odd that the issue would appear out of nowhere on both installations.
Any ideas of what might be going on?

The Background Tasks pane does show what's going on (to a certain extent), but what I'm taking about should be showing by default. I jumped on our old Macbook and created a test file and converted it to PDF in our Mac version of CS4. See the status bar that shows in the image below. This is what I'm taking about. It's a window titled "Generating PDF." It's been in every version of InDesign I've had since the first CS.
Shouldn't this be displaying?

I have used the method approveinteractive in task in custom workflow and also custom rule for agent selection. I did binding between the mentioned employeet.admingrp ,,, to the variables declared in rule container.

Regarding the change status of leave workflow.

i have copied the standard leave worklfow "WS12300111" and customized it just to meet our requirement means for multiple approvers.
everything is working fine in production means if user ID "AIHR01' raise a leave request the workitem will go to "AIHR02" after his approving the workitem will go to the final approver means "AIHR03" after his approval the leave request will be completed and the status in the TC - PTARQ is coming as "APPROVED" means only after the approving of "AIHR03" the status is coming "APPROVED" but in some cases when user id "AIHR02" is approved instead of coming status "SENT" it is coming "APPROVED" in TC-PTARQ and because of this status the workitem is coming blank in UWL of "AIHR03".
I have already incorporated the given below method in the "WORKFLOW" just to change the status from "APPROVED" to "SENT" after the approval of user ID "AIHR02" but in some cases it is not working fine it is giving BUG.

I would really appreciate if any of the experts can hel me here .
For a specific user the mail is not getting sent via the workflow ( this user was accidentally deleted and then recreated in the system ). The object uses a FM to get the APPROVER ID.
When that particular event(cv02n change) is triggered , I can see under :

Hi Rajesh,
That means it is still waiting for condition to be met. Try checking the technical details of the same. you can use Goto->technical details and check where it is waiting.
Else you can add a switch step in BPM and put the control step in one branch and cancel in the other . So, in that case atleast one of them will execute and you will come to know what the error is?

Pages PDF workflow doubles my saves

i am having an issue using pages (newish mac user) where i create a new Pages document for a project, put the date in the header, save this document when complete and then print to pdf to send a client a stable (no format issues) archive copy (no accidental date changes or text deletions).
however, this means that i am saving TWO sets of documents which is a pain.
in part i save the pages document so that i can create a NEW document by opening this pages document, updating the DATE and then changing the text - and saving out with a different file name. then i PRINT this to pdf and i have two new documents with one being the Pages and one being the PDF that is sent to the client.
it seems like there are two issues to doing this with one being that i am always saving two sets of documents. the other is that the Pages document is really like some kind of "soft" copy since it can get accidentally over-written (happens) or can get the date accidentally changed (happens) or some other mistake over time. on the other hand i need this Pages document mostly to create a new updated version of this "template" but also if i have to copy and paste information from this doc into a new doc i am not sure if i can do this by going to the "archived copy" which is in ACROBAT PDF.
can anyone help me figure out if i can minimize this sort of clunky and unwieldy workflow?
one thing i am wondering is if there is a way to create an actual Template in Pages (after creating the first pages document) and then save this as a Template and always open this Template any time i need to create a new document of this type. the other thing i am wondering is if there is a "lock functionality" (i am on both Lion and Mountain Lion because i cannot update the Mac Pro to ML which is a bit of a pain) in Pages that would let me "archive" the Pages document so i knew this never got changed.
it seems like this would be helpful over here since the "template copy" would actually exist in Pages and all the "archive copies" would exist in the project folder.
anyone able to help me with some specific suggestions perhaps as to how it relates to their workflow?

i have opened a blank document and i have inserted DATE and TIME in the header and then i right clicked on this and told it to "Update Automatically". then i have put the FILENAME in the footer. i have saved this as a test.pages document.
now if i close it and don't save, i can open a new document with "test.pages" document and this will open with /today's/ date (or the date that i open the document. as i write this i am seeing a bit of a problem. i mean, i have opened this document and it shows up with today's date, or if i open it in a week it will open with the date i open it.
assuming when i get done with it, i guess i have to /remember/ to manually change the Update Automatically to don't update before i close the document or the next time it will change the date and time. OR alternatively, i guess i leave the template with the date as set when the document was created and i have to remember to manually update it when i create the document? HMMMM. i guess i could simply put the NAME OF THE DOCUMENT at the footer and also put the DATE AND TIME which would be the date and time /printed/. Yes? I would really like to have all my docs printed with the date and time and the name of the document on them when i want but i am finding out i cannot do this in mac OS. so maybe if i just find a way to do this in pages i am OK.
how does this sound?! i mean if i use the footer and let it automatically update it will give me the information that i need and then i can set the actual date of the letter manually as this does not have to update automatically necessarily...
also can i PLEASE ask you to clarify how i get to (Send via Mail)? for some reason i am not quite understanding how to do this. i mean, i understand this is an atypical but i am not undersanding if i am supposed to look for this in a pulldown menu item or in the print dialog or on the document ICONS at the top of my document...

Answer to first question: Pages > Menu > Share > (Send via Mail) > PDF
'Send via Mail' is not a menu item, it is a heading (very unMac-like). Choose PDF below it. That creates a PDF and places it in a blank email, but doesn't require you to save it."
