Groups in mail

Can you use iOS Mail to set up and mail to groups or a distribution list?

No you can't. There are apps available that will let you do this however. Look at an app called Group Email with Attachments in the app store.

  • How to create a group in Mail?

I don't know how to add names to a group. Mail has a list of all people who have e-mailed me but I can't see it to move names onto the group I wish to create.

Note: if you add an email address to an Address Book member, and you do it by adding a second address called "home", and leave the first one "work" empty, smart mail box won't pick it up, and you'll wonder what's wrong.  If the person has only one email address, make sure there is no empty email address item above it so the smart mailbox will find it.
    Example: (wrong)
               work       Email
    -          home jsmith(a)nothere.com
    Example: (correct)
    -          home jsmit(a)nothere.com
Also: Apple Mail lets your select "Sender is member of Group", to say "Family", but there are no HELP items in MAIL help that discuss or point you to the Address book to deal with groups.

  • Creating a new group in Mail

Is there an easy way to create a new group in mail (or I guess it's really the Address book) from an email I already sent  to a group of people. I don't want to copy each name one by one if it's not necessary.  Thanks, Jack

Each email address in the group is put in the To: field automatically when you put them all in the BCC field when composing the email. Nobody sees anything except their own email address.
I think you are mistaken there, Golden. If the To: field is blank the recipients in the Bcc field will see the To: as undisclosed-recipients - if they get anything at all; some ISPs will reject a message with a blank To:. I would agree with putting the target recipients in the Bcc, but when doing this I usually put my own address in the To: field.

The native mail app does not do groups. In the app store there are a handful of apps that do. Mail shot as an example.

    Hello Joannah,
Thank you for details of the issue you are experiencing with duplicates in Contacts after upgrading to OS X Mavericks.  I would be frustrated by this too.
If you have enabled iCloud Contacts, I recommend following the steps in the article below:
iCloud: Resolving duplicate Contacts after setting up iCloud Contacts

If you’re not using iCloud, I recommend this article instead:

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Group e-mail problem

When sending a group e-mail, with my new iMac (retina 5K), everyone has been able to see the other addressees.  Checked 'When sending to a group, show all member addresses': this box was NOT ticked.

After not receiving a reply. I decided to attempt a number of work arounds.
The problem seems to be that in the upgrade from iCal 3.x to iCal 4.x, a check was implemented on the e-mail addresses in the alarm field in iCal, and if it did not look like a valid e-mail address iCal defaulted to the top most e-mail in your address book (default). The check is pretty basic in that it only checks for the "@" symbol between two text fields (i.e. text@text).
The work around if you would still like to send e-mail alarms to groups in your address book is to rename them such that iCal believes they are valid e-mails, so that it will pass it on to the Apple Mail program to distribute. If you have a group in your address book called "MyGroup", rename the group "MyGroup@MyCompany", then go to your address book card and insert the new name.
Restart iCal and you can now choose to send an e-mail alarm to "MyGroup@MyCompany" at any predetermined time.
    Hope someone finds this useful.

How do I create a group email mailing list?

Open Contacts - its in the Applications folder.
In the menu bar click File, and select New Group. In the left column of Contacts there will be a new item called untitled group. (You can change the name.)
Next click All Contacts on the left, and drag and drop the names you want in the new group.
To send an email to the group you start a new message and type the group name in the To: field.

  • Creating a group e-mail

I am new at websites and created a website on iweb. The website contains a roster of individuals with each person's e-mail address. I would like to create a link (I'm not sure if link is the proper term) so that someone going to the website who would like to send a group e-mail to everyone on the roster can do it by clicking on the link rather than having to copy and paste each person's e-mail. I can't figure out how to do this. Can you help me?

You can do this in iWeb, I believe...
Just make your link (text, graphic, or photo) and then select it. Open up the Inspector and click over to the Hyperlink tab. Check off the "Enable as Hyperlink" box. Link to "An Email Message". Then in the address field just enter each email address separated by a comma. Enter an email subject if you want. That should do it.
I don't know if iWeb has any limits on how many emails you can list, but I just tried it out with 4 emails and it put all four emails in the To: field of a new email.
    Good luck!

  • When sending a group e-mail I no longer can prevent other recipients reading each others e-mail addresses

Since downloading OS10.91 Maverick I can no longer send group e-mail messages without others in the group reading each others e-mail addresses.  This is dispite the fact that I have ensured that the relevant box under PREFERENCES is not ticked.
    Can anyone advise please
    Many thanks
    Leslie

This is a bug that many have posted about. The only workaround at this point is to add your group to the Bcc field, where individual names and addresses will not appear to recipients.

  • Why can't I type the name of a group in mail 7

I can no longer type the name of the group and Mail app 7 will auto fill all the addresses in the group. In order to group mail, I have to select addresses in the toolbar, click on the group, then command click on the individuals in the group and then click To:
Distribution list doesn't seem to work anymore.

I had a similar question but mine was more that I used to click on my group in the address book to select it and drag to the Bcc / cc field and now I can't seem to - but you helped by showing me an alternative - I am using OSX 10.9

How do I create groups in Mail and then add contacts to that group?

Look in Mail > Preferences > Composing tab > If you want all the email addresses to show, check "When sending to a group, show all member addresses".   If unchecked, just the groupname should appear.
If it still doesn't work then review the email addresses for each of the group members looking for errors in format.
Also, clean up the list in previous recipients in Mail > Window > Previous Recipients.

  • TS1627 Please Help. I received 4 emails from 1 person with the same message heading. The emails were automatically grouped by Mail. I replied to the latest mail in the conversation. Once sent the other messages in the conversation disappeared. I NEED THEM

Please Help. I received 4 emails from 1 person with the same message heading. The emails were automatically grouped Apple Mail. I replied to the latest mail in the conversation. Once sent the other messages in the conversation disappeared. I NEED THEM BACK! They all had very important attachments. I have tried looking for them in deleted items, even though I didn't throw any of them away, still cant find them. Never had this problem before. I'm pretty sure its a setting somewhere. Also tried expanding all conversations, no luck. Searching for the mails under the sent email address, no luck.
I'm sure they are not deleted but have somehow been hidden by Mail. Very frustrating.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Kash.

I have found found out what has happened. I had requested a statement dating back to April 2012 from a supplier. They replied back with the latest statementof 2013 only but used the same subject heading as the previous monthly statements. Apple Mail automatically grouped these and I thought that they were sent altogether. As soon as I replied to the last email all other the previous emails ungrouped from the conversation leaving me lost as to where they had gone. They were all still sitting in my inbox but no longer part of the trcked conversation. I searched under the subject heading and all individual mails were all still there. (feeling stupid - )

So I'm not Mary Frances.  I'm her husband who is force to deal with this opaque and obnoxious equipment (iPad).  With the iOS 7 update she could no longer follow web links by tapping them in an e-mail (it did work from a web page).  After an hour of web searching, experimenting and rejecting the offer of an answer from apple help for only $20, I found that, if in settings/safari, you turn off the "Do Not Track" button, the ability to follow links in an e-mail by a tapping is magically returned.
Flash! I just went back to the ipad and turned on the "Do Not Track" button -- just to test my discovery.  Predictably (by my cynical myself) you can still open a link in an e-mail, so I don't know what's happening/happen.  But I'm not surprised.

  • GMail Contact Groups in Mail

Hello. I recently decided to check out GMail's new IMAP feature with Apple Mail in Leopard. It seems to be working fine except that I do not know how to use GMail's contact groups. I run a soccer team so I send out updates to the entire team at once by using a group I setup in GMail. Is there a way to use this group while using Apple Mail? It seems Mail just uses my Address Book on my Mac, which has all my individual contacts, but no groups. (Can you even setup groups in Address Book?)
If anyone knows how to use GMail groups in Mail I would appreciate the help! Thanks.

You now every app has to get it's own password now? You'll find it at settings => password for programs and settings
GoogleMail app for iOS will work with your normal password. Mail on IOS and MacOS has to get their own password.
If you're fine with this answer, please mark it as helpful or even best answer. Thank you!
If you're not okay with this, remember me and I will try to help you further!
